Exchanging phone question - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I drove an hour one way to get this phone and I wanted to exchange it for another one. The Sprint stores in my area finally got them in but they said I have to take it to the store I got it from. Do I have any options or do I have to make the drive again? Anyone Sprint employees know how this works? Thanks for the help.

Sometimes if u ask the sprint people they will put like 20 dollar credit for gas money if ur Billing address is far from the stores. I've personally received this because the only sprint repair facility was an hour away from my house

Just depends on if it was a corporate store or indirect dealer. If in doubt then just call them and ask.

Yeah...it just depends if it's a third party reseller or an actual Sprint store. I exchanged mine last Thursday. The store I originally got my ET from was giving me a hard time about exchanging it so I drove the extra 25 miles and exchanged it at another sprint store with no problems.

premium retailer lies

Amazing what these stores get away with. my wife and I stopped in at a premium retailer and were looking at the dinc2 just out of curiosity. I liked it but told the salesman that I really need 4g for the constant tethering I do for work, I told him my upgrade HAD to be a 4g. He told me that there is a Sim card that updates the phone to 4g coming out very soon. Like an idiot I bought 2 on my upgrade and got rid of my Dinc 1. I ran the ruu right there in the store and unrooted, handed it to my brother. Throw your blackberry in the trash dude....
When I found out he lied the manager said he would not wave the restocking fee. He also said the activation for two years was irrevocable. Called Verizon, they waved it and said I have 14 days for the activation reset.
Manager of the store, when I called back, said since he is a premium retailer, he can and will charge the fee. had to call Verizon back to prove this untrue.
There must be no governing of these stores at all. , Verizon doesn't care and there doesn't seem to be much I can do. I love the phone actually but no way i'm buying it from these guys....but I HATE to have to fight with people over stuff like this

Unfortunately it is the retailers phone not Verizon's, so in fact he can charge whatever he wants. Bypass the manager and talk to the OWNER of the franchise should get it taken care of. I'm sorry that you were lied to but this is a perfect example of why doing your research is VERY important, who knows the store you go to may end up trying to charge every cent
If this is a 2 year renewal upgrade, you could have went thru Amazonwireless.com and purchased the Dinc2 for 1 penny + free shipping. Yes only a cent!
Tbolt and Droid 2 are also available starting at only a penny depending on your contract, discount and renewal.
I looked at Verizonwireless.com and they wanted $199-$30 Verizon credit = $169, then on my corporate discount website and they wanted $199-$30 Verizon Credit - $30 Corp discount = $139.
Amzonwireless.com 1 penny + free shipping and it was delivered to my door in 2 days.
just want to add my experience with a third party retailer. I bought a tbolt from one and didn't like it, I have a mifi pad so my phone doesn't need to have 4g I went to return it to get my dinc2 they said they couldn't because I didn't have the.sleeve with the serial numbers that goes over the box. so I went home and tore the house apart. then my wife, who has a photographic memory, informs me it didn't come with a sleeve. so I went back to the store and it took three calls to a manager and me raising all kinds of hell to get it switched. the tbolt was only two days old by the way. Morale of the story is third party vendors are crooked an will screw you all day if you let them

And to add to all the above... A lot of the salespeople have no clue as to what they are selling. They will tell you anything to make the sale.
I do know there are a few out there that do know what's up in the world of mobile phones, but where I live they are few and far between.
Google as I say (and many others) is your friend.
Hopefully you can get this straightened out without costing you more money.
I have to say that third parties are hit and miss. I manage a premium location in sc. We follow the guide lines of Corp. If customer service says waive then we waive. We are one of the few around that work off that philosophy. We want customers to have a better experience in our stores than corporate stores.
With that said I have had my own horrible experiences at premiums and authorized retailers. There a lot of crooks out there and will rip you a new one at the drop of the hat.

I freaking dropped it today. Put a small but unfixable dent on the top. The fine print of the guarentee doesnt mention condition of the phone. Hope I didnt just give them their out.
be wary of the bolt. most of the roms are buggy and that's not the devs fault HTC still haven't released official GB to my knowledge so that means no source code. and I can deal with poor battery life but the bolts batt life is just horrible. maybe mine was just a lemon I don't know. a good solution is a mifi it picks up 3 and 4g and is ultra portable I love mine

Back when I got my Titan from a premium box store, it would not turn on the second day. I called Verizon and they told me in the first 30 days I needed to go back to this store. They said I did not buy the protection plan, so it was not covered. I called Verizon customer service and they called this store and the VZW service rep corrected everything for me. She even let me listen in on the conversation as she set them straight. Try calling VZW and complaint about this third party and how they are doing you wrong.

Curious how many people got it from Best Buy. We're trying to see if theres a method to the madness of how it was distributed to the stores so randomly.

I drove 50 miles as best buy was my only option to obtain one on launch day. I got the first one. I am stoked. They had six.
I sat with my new pals at Best Buy and we watched RSS as the 2 (that every store in the district had in transit) popped into the system. I had 1 held at another store just to be safe. I also got a $50 Sprint gift card just in case that fell through. Worked out perfectly since best buy didn't have any accessories but Sprint did.
Awesome. So they left the status as in transit to avoid presales. Interesting tactic lol
Its apparently not really showing up in a lot of systems. I was there 15 minutes after opening and got the first one. The person had to physically check if hey had it. Computer didnt say they did.

Got mine from best buy. Fantastic phone. Well worth the upgrade.
I was first to get it at the store. 6 people behind me.
Got it at my local Best Buy. There were only 6 in stock and my friend and I camped out an hour before it opened. They didn't even know that this phone existed until we asked for it and they looked all over their inventory for it.
I got mine at best buy for $199.99. My local store had about 10 of them and i was 1st at the store.

Picked mine up at a sprint store here in Pearl City, Hawaii. The Best Buy right next to it wasn't getting their shipment in until next week, or so I was told. But the Sprint store did not have any available to anyone who did not preorder.
None of my sprint stores locally have them, one of the managers texted and asked me to bring it by so he could see it.

Sprint and Me

Ok, So I am incredibly unsatisfied with Sprint's service as of late. I purchased the Epic 4g Touch and experienced the dreaded "Loss Of Service" bug frequently. I was within my 14 day return limit so I went into the Visalia California Sprint Store to swap out for a different model (namely the Evo 3d which I traded in for the e4gt). I also signed 5 of my friends up with sprint as well and 2 of them got the e4gt and had the same exact issues. They convinced me to try a replacement and assured me that if it still experienced that bug I could return it within 14 days of receiving the replacement phone. The replacement phone was worse than the one I had originally and lost service every hour. I missed several calls from work leaving my employer under the impression I was angry and ignoring her and almost cost me my job. So I went in to the Visalia California store yet again to get a replacement model. I spoke with the same woman that convinced me to get the replacement model (She was also the manager) and she stated that the device was out of its 14 days since the FIRST device and that I couldn't get a different model (see what she did there?). So I went home and called Sprint off of another line and spent 4 hours total on hold. I hung up and called Sprint tech support and after running tests and walking me through updates and such the rep spoke with a manager on his end and concluded that I needed a different model of phone. He stated that he would note that down in the ticket and to go into the Visalia California store and they would give me a different model. So I went in to the store and spoke with the manager yet again. This time after reading the ticket she became rude and uncivil stating that the ticket says "customer needs to try a different model of phone" and that they didn't have to provide it for me and that even if it did, corporate cannot make them give me a different model. The whole time I was civil and polite but my frustration was building. I drove an hour to the Sprint store in Fresno only to find out that Visalia had to handle my case and that they could not even replace it with the same model. So I found a man on craigslist and traded it for a Nexus S 4g. I plan on paying out my contract asap and switching to Verizon. They know how to treat a customer.

Call account services, and speak with a manager. They should be able to escalate a claim. Or at least do something more for you.

Account services was the first call I made. they would transfer and drop me. This literally happened 12 times.
Wow that's crazy. Sprint is actually really cool here and if there's notes on your account the corporate store will always honor what they tell you on the phone. They even replaced an Evo with a bad speaker that my buddy had bought at an "authorized retailer" AFTER his 30 days were up.
I'd fight them so hard on this. Look for any sites that rate local businesses and flame that chick like there's no tomorrow. Also threaten and follow up with a complaint to the BBB. You don't have to take that treatment from anyone.

Yeah probably a little late since you traded for a nexus. You could have at least sold the e4gt to pay the early termination fees and just left sprint.

And yeah I needed a working phone asap so at the time it seemed the best option. I can pay the fees I just refuse to. I tried to pull that card and they transferred me to a manager which i was conveniently disconnected from in the process.
Wait what the hell? Verizon and AT&T both limit your data now? WTF I cant do that God they are sooo lucky I need a phone. So I get a choice between sh*tty customer service and sh*tty cellphone service... I can't live in this world anymore
T-Mobile and Sprint have the best customer service IMO. But if T-Mobile is absorbed by AT&T... game over.

Activate a new account with a 2g iPhone. Do the activation thru iTunes and select unlimited data, wait a week it so and switch your sim to the phone you want the unlimited data on and call care and update the imei .

Ok so i just walked into the sprint store on colesville rd in silver spring md and they had the note 2 in stock but when i told them i wasnt using an upgrade they told me no!!!! Can anyone tell me why they would do this?

You mean...they wouldn't sell you the phone off contract? Like you couldn't buy it for $700 or whatever it costs? To buy the phone for $300 you MUST be in a 2 year contract....and your current contract must be expired or about to expire.

They get a commission on new activations and upgrades, so most likely no incentive to sell to you at full price. Not defending or condoning this sales tactic, but they also might have had limited stock and would prefer to sell to new activations or upgrades (spiffs and commissions, again being the incentive).

i had no problems, even activating it on my SERO acct. i was offered an "early" upgrade for $225 and then buy the phone at the reduced price. i didn't go for it since i want to be off contract asap. i don't like being on them if i can help it.
I've had this happen before most likely its not a corporate store. Other stores have there own policy's on who they sell too.

They call sell it to someone else who is a new or upgrading customer and get the stats and possible commissions involved. Business man. Sucks to be on the crappy side of it though, but if you were using an upgrade or a new customer you'd likely appreciate this policy. Probably just a "that" store thing, try another location.

I've often heard people say this. If yo are planning on leaving, then why even buy the phone. If you are otherwise happy with the service, why not sign a commitment and get the price reduction? It only makes sense. Besides you can buy out your contract ANY time. Also Sprint changes their TOS so often you can usually get out for free anyway. Not to mention excessive data roaming will get you kicked.

I just had the same thing happen, except I have two lines and they want $450.00 combined.
That plus the additional costs of the phones $600 seems too excessive to be enslaved for another 2 years.
To go with the threads theme....I went to buy the phone outright today so I call beforehand and ask if they have stock, yes, and more then a few. Once I show up I explain to the guy that i'm going to pay outright, and he goes into his spiel on the accessories. They love selling accessories, and how I need a 64GB card cause the phone will be slow after awhile without one, and that this comes with a stylus, which he goes to demonstrate (of course doesn't work due to the theft magnet) and says its only used for texting...yes. I tell him i'll just take the phone which he wasn't happy about.....But I was nice considering I can be a real prick at times, I admit.
So he disappears in the back for 5 minutes only to emerge and walk towards me, then turns around as if he forgot his lines, then turns to me and says they only had 2 (One was sold before I arrived) and 1 on a 24 hour hold, would I like his card to call tomorrow? I say no, it's apparent I was being lied to if not now then before I arrived and we will not be doing any business. In all fairness this store if always fully stocked with jerks and I rather go to the dentist then go into this place.
Thought the general policy is phones go to people on contract only for a few weeks, and then you're allowed to buy it outright. Granted policies can differ and it's generally the premium, in demand phones, but it favors people willing to commit. Suck it up or find a different place to buy. Most stores I know sold through, so if I have people willing to commit to a contract and get me a commission, I'd tell you to come back when I have a steady supply, policy or not.

Probably eBay..I'm in Tampa and wouldn't take the risk of walking up to a stranger with $700 in cash... End up in a stand your ground case or something.
Out of curiosity which store did you get them from? I'm going to try another store tomorrow with better luck hopefully.
If it wasn't a corporate store, I'd agree with James873. The non corp stores suck in my experience.

I do that kinda CL cash. Just meet in a mall. The you go your separate ways in the crowd. Never a parking lot. Could even do it at a sprint store. Not illegal to scalp phones.

Purchased each phone at a different Sprint Store, but the first was on North Dale Mabry, and the second was on West Kennedy, both stores are Corporate.
Also, check Gulf to Bay Sprint Corporate store, they had some too, but I just did not want to drive all the way out there for a white one, not the Titanium.
You should be able to score a Note II, between those three Corporate Stores.

excellent idea, would definitely be willing to meet at a Sprint Store or even a 3rd Party retailer in the shopping mall.
using that method, this weekend should be easy enough to get it out of the way.

Yeah, douche bigalow from my story above was north dale, and when I got to Kennedy there was no lie like 20 people at the store and I didn't feel like waiting. I'm in the next town over tonight so I'll try the corp stores here. Good luck selling although not sure why you bought the phones if you didn't want them, and why not just return them.

A corporate store is a location that is actually "Sprint Store", rather than say, "Sprint by tCell" in the Shopping mall, which is a 3rd party retailer authorized to sell Sprint phones and Services.

Note 2 now in att store

He doesn't seem to be good at timely answers. My wife heard All stores are only getting 5 each and I asked him if it was true and its been half an hour ago and still no answer. I told him I need 2. I'll ask but can't promise timely answers.

I'd like to echo this sentiment. From what I've heard, from people's dealings with AT&T customer representatives, there's a thought that the white version will be available on Friday in stores. I really want the white version... so... can we get a yay or a nay?

replace S3 with SGN and we are brothers!!! my power button also doesnt work on the the 3gs, i really am itching, the only thing i like is that i can get 2 weeks of crap before my glorious screen returns!!!

I'm going to bring my box & phone on Fri to see if I can swap for a white one. If they do have it I hope they let me swap. I did pre-order through a CS Rep.

I will be at the store nearest me at 8:30 Friday morning to try and get one. I am *so tired* of getting the runaround by ATT reps. First the inability to preorder online, then the phone rep telling me there's nothing she could do and they had no idea, and to go talk to a store. One store telling me that I could come back in a few days and preorder it from them, then saying a few days later they didn't even have the SKU in the system. *Then* that same store told me I wouldn't have a hard time at all getting one, however, I called back yesterday and they said "We aren't getting very many, you might want to be here early." ARGH. This shouldn't be this frustrating.
Just checked att website says they have them in stock to purchase at my local att store in upper darby, pa!

My local store just call me to let me know they have more than enough in @ the Town Center Jacksonville, Fl. Too bad I got a really good deal via premier support by phone. They were going to give me the phone for 299 with some freebee's but was adding a line and just keeping with no phone/data on it. 9.99 a month...Premier CSR gave it to me same price and did an early upgrade (6 months early!). I'm happy.
Just got one from my local store. Got the last one. They only had 2.

I just left that store, they said they had 8. What kind of extras did they offer?

This really sucks. I went to an at&t store and waited until they opened this morning. They had 5 galaxy notes for sale but they would not sell me once because I would not sign a new contract. I tried buying the phone for full price and they told me it could be over a month before they are able to sell the GN2 off contract. I called customer support who actually called the store because they couldn't believe they wouldn't sell it to me. Customer support ended up saying its up to the manager to decide if they have limited stock...blah blah blah.
Terrible customer service from at&t as usual. I don't know what to do about it now because even customer support would not let me order it from them directly on the phone. I have a business account with them so I am waiting to hear back from my company rep but this BS should be allowed to exist. I am literally willing to give them $650 + tax for a phone and they won't take my money. If it wasn't for my grandfathered unlimited data plan than I would think about leaving them. Does anyone have any similar experience or suggestions on how to make this happen for me? I really wanted to get a GN2.

I guess it could be up to the manager but why didnt you plan on hitting a few at&t stores, not just one? I'm sure others wouldnt mind taking your money.
