Have you all seen the cool work done for recovery by #teamwin?
http://www.androidcentral.com/first-look-teamwin-recovery-project-twrp-20
It's pretty impressive and I think it would be awesome on the SGSIIE4GT. I am too new to Samsung products to consider taking this on myself, but I was wondering if any of you seasoned Sammy devs would be able to pull this off?
I think it will come to ET4G only if a Team Win member had the phone. I haven't heard of any of them having one. Team Win seems to be pretty HTC/Nexus heavy.
Would be really nice though, I love TWRP on my EVO3D and will greatly miss it on my ET4G.
I'm not watching 17+ minutes of video, I can't even make it through the video walkthroughs for flashing. Just gimme some text!
What's so hard about volume rockers to control selection? What's wrong with CWM, or whatever that other Recovery that I once used is called? Mind breaking down why TWRP is better?
They all wasted their upgrades on the 3d ;( I liked the twrp alot

Its all personal preference, cwm works but some people swear by amon ra and others by twrp. It won't hurt to have more than one recovery option.

I switched from CWM on my EVO to Amon_RA because I was having problems with CWM. Amon_RA worked flawlessly.
I went straight to TWRP on my EVO3D because of my EVO CWM woes. It has new upgrades and customizations not available in Amon_RA, not sure about CWM. It's the best recovery I've used since coming to Android with my Hero in 2009.
I have always used clockwork and been curious about others I came to the epic after my 3d fubared itself and it had to many glitches to make me comfortable about getting another one. So far no complaints on this guy though

ClockworkMod kinda got a bad rap in it's earlier versions for the EVO 4G, it was not wiping properly and it also failed to back up the WiMax RSA keys, but this was later fixed in the later versions.
CWM on the EVO 3D worked as expected. TWRP is just a lot more user friendly with more options. They both back up and recover just fine, I had used both of them.

Even to this day CWM on the Evo does not wipe properly without a script, there is no way to format boot, which causes ALOT of roms to boot loop on a fresh install.
On another note, I am one of those that swears by Ra Recovery, I probably won't root unless there is a Ra Recovery port.

Yes, that's why I always used AMANRA as well. I liked the idea of TWRP because it was built from the ground up. I already had a few members of TEAMWIN tweet at me and say they were not interested in the SGSIIE4GT
I have talked to team win about it and currently there are no plans because none of them have an phone at this point. Maybe someone could port it over when it comes out. Shinzul and Toast are two of the best developers on this site. I wouldn't be surprised if A manufacture picked one of them up like Sammy did with Cyanogen.
They will make it TWRP recovery have touchscreen controls, GUI interface, personalize it with themes, and when a ROM maker makes a ROM for it, instead of using ASCII to show off their logo they can use actual Animations too, pretty cool ****, too bad not on here loved TWRP 1.3 on my evo 3d. EVO OG amon ra ftw

Just curious since CM has this function... Being a new Amon-Ra user this seems like something that would make the users life much easier. I previously has all my custom things in a folder on my sd called EvoDev and roms in one folder, zip mods in another, etc.... I now must leave all my stuff on root of sd or move back and forth with a file manager if I want to do anything.
I'm not mad or anything, just curious as to why Amon-Ra doesn't have this ability. Anyone know?
P.S. - Sorry if this is wrong section but I didn't view it as a general Q&A... It was more specific to a function of a program that is used daily in development so I thought this would be the appropriate place to ask.

because he hasn't implemented, 2.0 is on the horizon, there is potential its going to be implemented, however something so simple can easliy be worked around
2.0 can but amon-ra hasn't ported it over to the evo yet.

Are you saying there is a way to make it see past the root? I can't figure it out. Please elaborate..
If you are just saying it is easy to work around as in it is easy to just move my files to root of sd.... Well sure, it isn't hard to do..... but it does take more time.... And say you are doing something complicated requiring flashing a few things one after the other... Well... That becomes a bit of a PITA if you ask me... Especially after using CM for so long....
I like Amon-Ra better actually... Aside from the lack of seeing past root of SD...
As I said, I'm not mad, just wanted to know if maybe a change was in the works or if anyone knew a way to force seeing further.
no way around it, but if you are by a computer, enabling USB mode allows you to mount the SD card and manage it while in recovery.

Yep, I always use usb-ms mode when I do some flashes/updates since it's quick and easy. The file explorer would be a bonus, but amon ra is great the way it is. As long as I have my nandroid backup includes my 4G RSA keys then that's all that matters.

Does it back upo 4G-RSA keys automatically or do I have to do a separate backup for that?
i'm sure it will be implemented in the evo build soon. just be patient.
not to sound anal but unless it involves added 400 extra lines of code why not ad this basic feature from the get go?
I mean my sd was nicegly organized, now i have all they files jammed into the root of my sc card. Making trying to find one to flash out of gillions very hard
Just curious as to how I can speed up my 3g. I am using myn's RLS5. I hear of people pulling close to 1mbps but literally the most I get is .2-.3 mbps. I also notice the speed isn't consistent in the "speed test."
I honestly just want to pull the same to similar speeds, but in the 1mb area. I understand it has a lot to do with the signal strength and radios and possibly flashing an older radio cersiom but not sure how to even do that.
Also I did hear about sprint sending out signal repeaters for people who have bad signal in certain areas. Wiamp or something? Heard anything about getting it for free from *****ing enough?
Lastly, I asked this not too long ago. I am clearly missing nandroid. I used unrevoked earlier this month to root. Flashed myns RLS5, and netarchy's kernel. Clockwork mod is recovery

New issue and correction. Correction on the sprint sent booster. It's called airave?
New issue- when I'm in the internet browser, I click on a link or a tab on a website, my browser just closes. No fc or anything.

ive got it in my clockwork recovery...pretty sure its right on the front menu.
Look. I've seen numerous screenshots of what it should look like. I also had it in my menu before I flashed anything. Now its GONE. I'm happy for you if its in your menu, but its not in mine. I didn't ask a question for you to tell me its in yours.
If anyone has a clue or is willing to actually help me out, please do. I couldn't imagine being the only person with this issue.

If your in Amon_RA recory? Search the creator name and you can hear it from him, unkown bug that he has not had the time to fix it yet, the pixelated gets worst as you flash newer ROMS.
Trying a updated version Recovery can help, but make sure what you chane it too is compatible with the ROM's and always double check OP's for updated material.
Flash/Installed ten Roms already and still going on Amon_RA, but I don't have proof that the ROM nor the recovery is the cause of some issues on the whole system to aact irracticaly.
Last but not least, you have not done a full search? Use the search bar makes it easier for you to find answers already asked?

If you dont want to see it look for Amon's 2.2.1 recovery. That one did not have the issue. As a matter of fact here it is for you OCD based individuals out there. Remember to re-do all your nandroids as this will not restore any nandroids made with a newer version of Amon. You do know how to flash this right. Place on sdcard and rename to PC36IMG.zip

I wanted to really start from scratch so I went through some of the Samsung open source code and found that there were some unnecessary modules being loaded. That could be what's causing some problems (although I haven't had much but think it's signal related or Sprint's towers being updated), but with no overclocking and the changes, it could solve everything? Dunno still.
So I tried my best to trip the bloat-code out and try to keep it as stock as possible (no overclock), perhaps some of you can test this out for me.
Changelog
v.1
- CWM 4.0.1.5
- Superuser 3.0 + fixed su, now installs in /system/bin, you can update the binaries with SuperUser app.
- init.d support (/system/etc/init.d)
- Bootanimation support
- fixed Airplane toggle
Things to test:
- LOS?
- Video out? - sorry my video out adapter is still being shipped, I think I enabled it but can't really check???
-Airplane toggle should be fixed
Things I am working on:
- Boot splash logo? Still working on that, if anyone knows how to change it, please let me know.
- Recompiling CWM from scratch, add external SD support, fix wipe issue
- Add infrastructure to wifi tether and USB tether?

CWM probably can't cause issues since it's in recovery, it doesn't fire up unless u r actually in recovery but CWM we all using right now have issues as they are based off SG2 CWM binaries. Someone has to compile a CWM for Epic4GT from scratch or at least hack it. I am gonna try that soon but compiling kernels is just taking too much time, I've been 24/7 compiling for like a whole week, get no other work done, i seriously need to go out to a rave and get f--ed up for couple days. Then my head will be clear, compiling will be fun.
When it was released it was not, I looked around but couldn't find anything recent pertaining to CWM touch specifically on the Galaxy Nexus. Can anyone confirm that it is fully functional? Thanks in advance!
Yup fully functional.

I agree, for me it would frequently skip up/down more than one notch. The other problem was the "back menu button disabled" causing the power button to turn the screen off/on instead of selecting the option. I finally learned you have to scroll past the first menu option 3x to enable it again.
Dont have those problems anymore! Definitely worth the $2.
Yeah, works brilliantly for me!

It's the little things, like being able to see battery and time in recovery. Plus, it now has a keyboard so you can name nandroids in recovery or rename files since it's also got a file manager. It supports backing up partition sizes greater than 2GB which CWM doesn't. You can compress backups to save space. You can queue multiple zips to flash in sequence. If you use Tasker you can make automated, scheduled nandroids. I find it easier to navigate, like it was actually a recovery made to be touch and not just a recovery that had touch added. Swiping to flash gives me confidence I'm not gonna do anything stupid accidentily. Also, while in recovery pressing the power button will lock it so you have to swipe to unlock for those times when you're in recovery but need to put your phone in your pocket. Probably other things I'm missing.
