Tweak request-
-Enabling the mute button on the back of the phone when you are on a BT headset or just using the handset so you don't have to mess with the screen.
-A step further: Allow you to remap the button during different situations.
Example-
While not on a call you could remap it to something like voice command or live search (or anything else you wanted)
I accidentally hit that button alot when talking with the phone held to my ear. Launching programs would be weird too as its on the back. I'm sure it can and will be done though.

I'm assuming that no one has come up with anything considering how old this thread is. I'm looking for the same exact thing. This would be great when using my hands-free car stereo that doesn't provide a mute button. Bump!
Either you guys haven't tried Rhodium Keyboard Controller yet, or that's not what you're looking for.
It lets you remap all hardware keys, including the mute button.
Greetings!
I have my Desire running MIui GB and it is fantastic.
I prefer using a bluetooth headset rather than talking to the phone directly.
The problem comes when the headset is inside a pocket ,and its buttons are pressed.
On a single button tap i had voice dial popping on the screen.
There were false matches by the voice dialing app and random calls were made.
This was easily disabled, simply by deleting VoiceDialer.apk from the ROM.
The other problem that i haven't found a solution yet, is when the button of the headset is pressed twice.
When that happens, the phone redials the last number, bypassing any lock screen. It is happening quite often actually.
Anyone knows how can i disable that?
Bluetooth headsets are suppose to go on your head, not in your pocket.... seriously.

Does your headset have key lock? Or u could buy an extra pocket for the headset.

I found a workaround by chance just now. After I installed dialer for JAJAH service that I use I got a dialog asking what program to use after clicking BT button.
As long as i don't select USE BY DEFAULT it stops at that dialog and doesn't dial.
Please all, lets keep it on topic and with respect.
Thanks for your cooperation.
Sup All,
forgive me for the easiness of this question but Ive been looking for a while and cant find an answer. Its definitely different on ICS, than other/all android builds. So, is there a way to prevent voice actions from being enabled when you press the button on a blutooth headset? Even a way/app to reprogram the button press shortcut? I was listening to a podcast, pressed the headset button to pause it but I guess I double pressed it or something and it opened the voice actions window, which I wasnt paying attention, mumbled one word and it called an ex. SWEET! I hung up and am pissed this is a "feature", as, Im sorry, the voice actions alone are not that up to par, and on bluetooth, theyre atrocious. Any ideas? I like and use the google search button but Im not very impressed with the dictation of text messages, etc. The voice recognition just does not seem to be up to par, Ive gotten some pretty "are you kidding me?" results when trying to text via voice. But of all things, I dont want to use the whole "call blah blah blah" feature, or any voice "actions" over bluetooth. I want to keep voice search (like only for web searches, etc) but I dont want my phone to interpret what I say and then dial the non-appropriate number. Any apps to reassign the voice actions button or just disable it as a whole? I love the GNex but this ruined my night and Ill die happily if I can have bluetooth in, press the one button and not be worried that its gonna dial someone. Also, Im using a bose BT2, so it doesnt have all the nifty apps like a jawbone or what not, but I like the call quality. Im pretty sure a jawbone has an app that can change the hotkey presses but thats not applicable to me.
Hi,
I have the Rogers version Galaxy S Glide (Android 235), non-rooted as not allowed in order to use it for work email.
Using Motorola S10-HD stereo bluetooth headset.
When paired and connected, pressing the BT Call button does nothing.
Holding the BT Call button performs a redial of the last number.
I've read for other devices with Android 2.2 or higher that the Google Voice Dialer should start when holding the Call button but it doesnt. It will only start if I hold the search button on the phone itself.
Any confirmation from others or suggestions to make it work?
Thanks.

I am using a Nokia BT headset but working fine, can you check on Settings > Wireless and network > bluetooth settings > [Moto S10-HD] > tap and hold, and see if it's connected with "Phone" and "Media"

Yes, both "Phone" and "Media" are listed in the BT settings and both are ticked.
Have tried repairing with no change.

Do you have access to another Bluetooth headset you could try with the phone? Maybe there's something wrong with your current headset.

I just tried a Nokia BH-104 but it also doesn't start Voice Search/Dial.
It also acts slightly differently to the S10-HD.
Call button press - nothing
Call button long press - nothing
Call button double press - last number redial

Oh now this is becoming a real challenge. I also have Nokia BH-104 and I will, in all my best, try and replicate your issue and see.
EDIT: Positive! The call button on both my Nokia Headsets does not trigger Voice Search.....I can only redial my recent called contact via double press.

I gather we are stuck?
Is there an app that allows remapping the BT call key to start another app, even though this function should work standard to start Voice Search?

I have a Motorola T505 in the car and it works well just that it does not work if the phone is at the lock screen. Needs to be unlocked for the call button to work. I assume you already made sure the phone was not at the lock screen. Just wondering is their anyway to make it work with the lock screen still active?

Did a bit more testing.
I installed Vlingo, then something changed.
Instead of nothing happening when pressing the BT call button (Motorola S10-HD), now I get a choice:
Vlingo
Vlingo In-Car
but still no Voice Search option
I then found this App in the Play Google Store called Bluetooth Launch.
It allows you to assign any function to launch when the BT headset call button is pressed.
Now I get:
Bluetooth Launch
Vlingo
Vlingo In-Car
I set Bluetooth Launch to start Voice Search and it works!.
Vlingo is not a bad option either since it can be set to start listening on launching.
However, I realized all this only happens when the phone is in wake mode.
If its asleep, nothing happens, so you still have to touch and wake up the phone then press the BT button.
So still not totally hands free.
Asleep or locked the phone does not respond which is quite annoying when driving. My old phone (Windows Mobile 6.1) alloud voice dialing even though it was locked. I loved being paired with my Bluetooth as I still could do everything via Bluetooth. Sucks that Android which is so powerful does not work well with BT.

Did some more searching and it appears that the move from Froyo to Gingerbread changed the way BT call wake up works.
When the phone is secured with a pin or pattern to unlock, the BT call button wont wake it up..
I did have a pattern lock enabled, which I've since turned off.
Now pressing the BT call button while the phone is in standby wakes it up and runs Vlingo straight into listening mode waiting for a command.
So seems to work OK, just that I cant have a secured lock enabled.

Ya I have seen that it works as you mentioned but I like having the lock pattern and was hoping there was a way to get Bluetooth call button to work even though the phone is locked. Kind of sucks if there is no way around this. The whole point to the Bluetooth is that the phone can stay in my pocket locked so as not to press any buttons by accident and I can make calls from my Bluetooth device.
I'm thinking of purchasing a satechi Bluetooth media button to control me M9 while in the car.
http://www.satechi.net/index.php/sm.../satechi-bluetooth-button-series-media-button
The device itself isn't programmable, but I am wandering if it is possible to change how the handset responds to the various button presses. I have no use for the volume buttons in the car, but could really use an answer and hang up call button.
Is there any way I can change how the phone responds to those buttons so they can answer calls instead?
Otherwise, does anybody know of a similar device that will perform the functions I require? Mainly skip forward/backwards, pause/play and answer calls.
