Hello,
i know this is something that been around xda forums, but after reading a lot of similar threds (and installing, reinstalling, formattning a dozens of times) I still get no success with internal memory usage.
This is what i got:
Desire S-OFF, newest radio, and cm7 r2 hboot, 16gb sd with a 14gb fat32 and 2gb ext4 - all of those made for Cool3D Runny v2.
Ive tried variouse methods of formatting my SD - gparted (with ext3, ext4, 1gb, 2gb) via 4ext recovery same values but every time i install the new rom (and yes - i also formatted - not only wiped all /data /system etc directories) i get 100mb free on internal space. When i recover my data and apps from titatnium I end up with 20Mb free. There is clearly something wrong but i have no idea what else i could try?
Whats interesting, last evening i got app2sdgui from the market and after giving it a run a get a message:
could not start for one reason: 1) your device is not rooted (well... it is) 2) a2sd scripts not found (no idea what that) 3) no ext partition found (4ext recovery sees its clearly).
Anyone? Please? Im going crazy with it.
EDIT:
just to make things straight i formatted everything one more time.
1st partiton fat32, 2nd 1gb ext4
after 1st boot I get: 156mb used, 132 free
so it still looks like too much is sitting inside internal mem...
How many are your apps?
Are you rooted? (Sometimes there's something wrong with the superuser.apk . If that's the case check the ROM thread, there should be a solution there)
Is the app2sd script enabled?(check the first page of titanium backup. If there are data on the ext partition., then it does)
Also resize your ext to 1gb(aka 1024mb) cause there have been reported issues with bigger partitions
Does your ROM support ext4?
All these are the general "troubleshooting questions"
Hope I helped

currently im on a fresh install of cool3d with a 1gb ext4 on a cm7 r2 hboot with s-off.
I got a root checker app from market and it states i have no root privilges which is surprising since i did already run unrEVOked previously. Anyway - im trying to root again and see what the results will be.
OK - this is what I got:
unrEVOked says: ERROR failed to root. Is your firmware too new?
Bootloader screen says:
bravo pvt1 ship s-off
hboot-6.93.1002
microp-031d
radio-5.17.05.23
I actually thought that after s-off my phone will be permanently rooted and flashing cm7 r2 hboot and then cool3d want change it.
Is there a way to gain root again other then enrevoked (i.e. downgrade)?
Try www.revolutionary.io
If it doesn't work then grab an ruu, flash it and try again

revolutionary done.
s-off redid, recovery reinstalled but still unsuccessfull with regaining root on cool3d.
Im trying to move to insertcoin which is supposed to be rooted out of the box and will see how it goes.
thanks

New to the forum and spent all day looking for a fix and searched throughout the forum so posting here for a response. I've found the same question via other sites with it being the last comment with no answer.
My desire is rooted and has clockworkMod installed. Neither the redux-v1.0RC6 or AuraxTsesnse_8.4 roms will install either via clockworkmod recovery or the rom manager app.
I've been though the wiping of cache, data, dalvik and factory reset and makes no difference.
It goes to installing update and then E:\error in /sdcard/updateversionname.zip (status 0) Installation aborted.
I've seen it mentioned that the SD card needs to be formatted with FAT32, it already is.
Don't know where to go from here.
thanks in advance.
The SD acrd needs to have an EXT (3 or 4) partition too, at least 512 MB. Not just only FAT32.
I thought it odd that people were suggesting FAT32 for the SD card, I know linux / android cant read FAT32 preboot. Obviously windows needs FAT32 for getting stuff on and off the device.
Thanks a lot.
Well for stock Android it is FAT32 you need, but for custom ROMs with A2SD+ you need to have an EXT partition, as well. But this is written almost in every ROM's thread.
I copied data off my sd card, formatted with rom manager which created 512 mb ext file system and the rest fat32. Then copied all my data back to card.
Booted to clockwork, cleared cache and wiped data and tried to install again, no difference, same status 0 error.
Running nandroid restore for the umpteenth time today :-(
Strange, what ROM do you want to install? Filename? I never had status 0's...
ROM's from this forum:
AuraxTSense_8.4_Official_OTA_2.2_FRF91_A2SD+.zip
Redux-v1.0.0-RC6-signed.zip
Those should work, so can't understand. Disable signature verification, maybe that helps.
Also your phone is PVT4? MAybe that's the cause.
I'm running redux Rc6 rom.
I have clockworkmod 3.0 installed which i used to flash the zip, and I had already partitioned my SD card using gparted as it is the ONLY way I found to successfully partition it (750mb ext3 partition). Rom manager definitely did not work for me, don't use it!!
Hope this points you in the right direction, cost its an awesome rom!!

I'm not familiar with what pvt4 is, a quick read through the forum mentions pvt3 & pvt4 desires. I haven't waded through the hundred page thread yet to find what this is and which applies to my device. It was a UK T-mobile device bought 2.5 months ago and I unlocked it from T mobile network and rooted it with unrevoked. Also signature verification on or off makes no difference.
@wildcardspv
Which would you recommend, the Froyo or Gingerbread ROM ? I read only 0.4% of Android users are running Gingerbread compared to 52% running Froyo. I'm inclined to try Froyo first as I would hope there would be fewer bugs and less likelihood of app related problems.
I'm actually pretty happy with 2.1, it does everything I need it to except it does not have Thai fonts installed and the hack looks like a headache. Can you confirm if Froyo or Gingerbread have Thai glyphs installed ?
I'm pretty sure my problem is SD card related as I couldn't install the droidsans Thai glyphs zip either. I'll give gparted a go and see how I get on.
Thanks to all for helpful responses.
Well, to check that, boot your phone into the bootloader, hold down power + volume down and you should get a screen like this.
If you have PVT4 with earsize 40000, you must flash the latest Amon RA instead of CWM.
Anyways what version of CWM are you using right now?
Moreover, using the Gparted method to partition your card is better than using ROM manager. Mount your card from recovery (mount & storage > mount usb storage). and try to partition with GParted.
Booted into HBOOT and doesn't mention anything about 3 or 4 version of PVT and nothing about earsize, it just says below:
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.80.0007
MICROP-0622
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO-3.35.19.01
Aug 9 2010
CWM is v2.5.0.1
Anyone know of any gparted live CD mirrors ? Taking forever to download from gparted site and it's not my connection.
I partitioned with gparted a 768 ext2 and the rest FAT32. It made no difference, same status zero on any ROM I try to install.
Sorry bump for some help..
Would really appreciate some help with this, surely I can't be stuck on 2.1 forever. It seems odd that I can back up and restore ROMS with ROM manager and clockwork pre-boot no problem. But I've no idea why I cant install any other ROM.
Just noticed... your radio is 3.35.19.01? Never seen that before... I've always seen Radios starting with 5.xxx
Also no PVT numbering (BUZZ PVT - never heard on the Desire - on Wildfire, yes)
Are you sure you have a HTC Desire? Because from those data I have to think , you have a WILDFIRE.
And the prize for the biggest idiot in the rooms goes to...
Thanks for pointing out my monster faux pas, lol.
No probs, happens sometimes, but I have to admit, it was a big one
I would have replied directly to the leedroid thread but I'm not allowed to.
I gave up on my previous rom SuprNova, it was corrupting the filesystem on the sd-ext according to 4Ext and gparted and generally running terribly.
Installed LeeDroid with Data++, partitioned the card using 4Ext, 14GB for SDCARD, 1 GB for SD-EXT as EXT3 and 128MB swap.
LeeDroid works lightning fast, but apparently it's not using the SD-EXT for the Data slice? Can anyone advise how to get this working? Thank you.
This is the Desire Bravo with S-Off using Revolutionary and the Revolutionary H-Boot, Leedroid version 3.3.3 with Data++.
Thank you.

you can't post in the thread (yet) but you can still search it, read the first post and last few pages
you might have found the FAQ which will help you get things running properly
- cm7r2 hboot is better for data++ version. guides on how to change hboot are in that faq, or search further (easy because you are already s-off)
- backup and repartition sd card without swap, you don't need it.
- don't use 'move to sd', keep apps on internal will trick apps to sd-ext. use an app like 'diskusage' to check all your partitions.
Thanks for clarifying, I'll give it a go this evening.
Just so you know, there's no howto on the Data++ package in the original post about the release.
Greetings,
I've just given cyanogenmod10 a try, after 2 years of having the same 2.3 rom.
All is going well, but even after 'installing' a2sd, I only have 150mb of app space. Needless to say, after 5 apps, it's full.
Is this normal? I had tons and tons of apps with my previous rom.
Thanks in advance!
Install m2sd, and move dalvik to sd.
You should ext3/ext4 partition on sd card. The rom will use that for phone apps. Btw even after that you will still see internal ram as 147m, but don't worry a2sd will use ext partition for apps and you can install many apps without any issue of memory.
Same rom working great for me

Thanks for the replies!
I'm a bit stuck now as there is no rom installed on my phone and my sd card is empty. But I'll put a rom on my sd card tonight with another phone so I should be ok for that.
My problem still remains though.
I can't get a 1gb partition. I have tried external methods with my pc: partition wizard, easeus partition and those 2 can indeed partition my sd card, but when I unplug the usb cable, my phone says the card is damaged and needs to do a full format. After that my partition is gone.
The other method I used was to get s-off, so I could get the recovery of 4EXT. I tried to switch s-off with revoked, but I couldn't use that as my hboot is 0.80.x.x. So I had to try with alpharev (I used both cd and usb) but it was stuck at the 3rd step, I left the process running for 5 hours and there was nothing changed.
So here I am, clueless about what to do because if I can't get a partition I can't get a2sd and if I can't get that I can only install 2 programs, which is quite rediculous.
Please, what is there left for me to do?
edit: I'm going to put a 2.2 froyo rom on it and see if I can try again with alpharev. I read somewhere alpharev isn't always working with certain roms.
Update: flashing a froyo 2.2 rom before letting alpharev run did the trick, my phone is now s-off. Going to try to get my full sd card back as I seem to be missing 500 mb.
Update 2: with 4EXT i could format my hidden ext partition and make a new one of 1gb. After that the a2sd worked!
So problem solved, thanks for reading!
I want to s-off and currenty have hboot 0.80 which means i need to flash a newer RUU, probably 3.14.405.1
the xda dev official htc desire ruu roms link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667) only goes up to 1.21.405.2 so thats no good
There are various links on the web pointing me to : http://www.htcdev.com/process/legal_download/152
but this no longer works, i had a look at the source code and the rar file is in there but the link is invalid.
i tried installing htc sync but my desire isnt recognized, even after switching off usb debugging in the phones options.
my phone is currently rooted and running a GB Cyanogenomd rom but i only get a couple of apps installed and then it runs out of memory and Mounts2SD needs S-Off
Anyoe have a link to the 3.14.405.1 RUU?
I reuploaded it here.

Just to clarify, mount2sd does not technically need s-off.
To use any form of A2SD properly, you only need a correctly partitioned sd card, and a ROM which can run init.d scripts to move combinations of apps / dalvik and data to the sd-ext partition. So firstly make sure your sd is partitioned using gparted, or use 4EXT recovery once you are s-off. Do not use minitool or clockworkmod to partition. Then in most cases after use activate A2SD, you keep you apps on internal (don't 'move to SD') to trick them to the sd-ext.
The main reason for gaining s-off is so you can change hboot, which is how your actual nand intnernal memory is laid out. Have a look at the partition tables at alpharev.nl
- Currently you are on stock hboot, which has 250MB /system size, and only ~150MB /data (internal memory). The same as before you s-off or root.
- CM7 has a /system size of ~140MB, so you are wasting 110MB
- If you are s-off, you can switch to cm7r2 hboot using fastboot, which has a 145MB /system, wastes only 5MB
- As a result, your /data goes up from 150MB to 287MB
- It's generally a good idea to keep you app data (e.g. saved game data) on your /data partition (internal memory) for speed and stability. 287MB allows for more :good:
- This combined with properly working A2SD as above, you'll have a lot more space for apps
thanks for your help!
i managed to get the Official RUU and then s-off and root and tried a kitkat rom but it kept rebooting within 2 minutes of use .
To be fair it used to randomly reboot every so often when on Stock Rom years ago, i think i read it was a hardware fault but for some reason with CM7 its stable and never reboots.
So I'm back to CM7 and using that HBoot you recommended.
Im happy with the extra space now so dont think i need to bother partitioning the SD Card and using the build in transfer apps to sd i now have 100MB free and that's with a few apps installed. I really only use the phone as a replacement for an ipod touch and before all this i could only get about 4 or 5 apps loaded and was getting the out of memory alert.
Thanks again!
Hi I've downgraded HBOOT to s-off (also giving new HBOOT), flashed new HBOOT compatible with all roms and flashed roms o plenty on my desire s (saga) but my desire (bravo) has been a little more complicated to say the least!
The roms for the desire 1 all go on about having xxx Mb HBOOT and all the various partition sizes needed, nether of these seem to apply on the desire s and dispute having read guides over and over, I cant seem to get the partitions right (1.5mb main mem left after clean rom flash) im wondering if its to do with the hboot instead.
Before AND after partitioning the device, the gingerbread rom iused to get from hboot 1.03 to one compatible with revolutionary works fine, I am currently on the HBOOT version revolutionary planted on the phone ( HBOOT-6.93.1002, RADIO-5.17.05.23 )
The custom rom I tried booted a couple of times but as I said, with only 1.5mb of mem left and lagged like a Pentium 4 pc trying to play battlefield 4 lol.
That rom has not booted since but restoring via recovery to the gingerbread rom, all works fine.
The custom rom I installed was omni-4.4.2-20140518-bravo-homemade, i want to try others but this was just a starting ground.
Please can someone point me in the right direction, as i said, I've followed guides for partitioning the SD card and I've gone wrong somewhere and can't figure out what.
Thanks Steve.

How much size partition have u made?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Free mobile app
So the initial 'hboots' you have been seeing are merely version numbers relating to official ROMs
e.g.
0.93 is for a Froyo ROM
1.02 is for the Gingerbread ROM
1.03 is HTC dev unlocked ROM I believe
Your version number now doesn't really mean much, but the fact that you are S-OFF now means you can change your hboot. When custom ROMs refer to hboots in this sense, they are merely talking about your internal nand partition sizes.
So going back to before you gained s-off, you were on stock hboot, with the following sizes:
250MB /system
40MB /cache
147MB /data
You are still technically on stock hboot, so your sizes internal nand memory still looks like this. The /data partition is your internal memory, which as you can see is tiny.
S-OFF gained the ability to change your hboot if you so wish. You can find the different hboot partition tables at alpharev.nl. You can flash a different hboot with both smaller /system and /cache sizes, hence much larger /data (internal memory) using fastboot. More /data = more internal memory = more space for apps :good:
You need to flash a compatible custom ROM with a /system size just smaller than the corresponding hboot to optimise your space.
So for instance, cm7r2 hboot has a /system size of 145MB. You need to flash a ROM with say a 140MB extracted system size to fit (it will usually just say in the first post).
Some ROMs will still only fit into stock hboot, but you can still gain space by A2SD whereby apps are moved to the sd-ext partition. You may have to manually activate it, instructions are normally given in each ROM thread.
You also need a correctly partitioned sd card (using 4EXT recovery or gparted only) along with the custom ROM to optimise app space. Which guide did you use? And how big is your partition?

re formatted the sd card how advised to, flashed rom and nothing, re wiped, installed the hboot sugeseted on the roms page but still nothing, just stuck on the htc splash.
Installed a ics rom and everything is working great, the other has issues with this phone lol
Which method did you use to partition, 4ext recovery or gparted?
Stock hboot or the Alpha Jelly hboot will work, as both have 250MB /system size. Are you using fastboot to flash them?
How are you performing the wipe before installation? 'wipe all partitions except sdcard' option within 4ext should be sufficient.

yes im using the PB99IMG method for flashing them, I partitioned using 4EXT.
I realised stock shouldent be a problem by the numbers explained to me but thought it couldent do any harm to flash a specific hboot reccomended by the rom cheff, it also slightly changed the install process for some reason if you were running a hboot other than it so I shought in the name of compatibility I would give it a try but nope lol, HTC slash screen again ha ha.
I will try another 4.4 rom to see what happen but it is a little strange as it did boot and run poorly before

You may have corrupted the ROM.zip download. Try again, and verify the md5 sum if it has one.
You may need to activate a2sd first then flash the gapps package straight after, check instructions
Like you said, if that still doesn't work, get any ROM booting as a first step (along with corresponding hboot beforehand if you want to optimise space).
