I recently followed the video noob guide on rooting my desire and installed the Leedroid 3.0.7 rom.
Everything was working perfectly until recently my phone started to freeze and the only option was to remove the battery to switch it off. This kept on occurring more and more often and now it refuses to go past the splash screen. It is just stuck there until the battery dies.
The bios works so i went there wiped data/factory settings, wiped cache and dalvik cache and installed the newer leedroid 3.0.8 rom. It installed without errors but still after reboot doesn't go past the splash screen.
Does this mean it's bricked? and what can i do make it work again?
More info:
It's the amoled unbranded htc desire.
I did all the steps in the noob proof guide here on xda including the custom splash screen.

Did you follow the steps and create an EXT3 partition on your SD card and align it before flashing the ROM?
I have a 4gb card, i created a 3gb fat32 partition and a EXT4 1gb partition
basicly everything was done 100% same as in that guide
The first page of the 3.0.8.2 LeeDroid ROM says to use and EXT3. It probably doesn't recognize EXT4 partitions. I'd start with re-formatting your card, aligning the partition then flashing the ROM again.
thnx i will try that
I need a working phone to use gparted, don't I? I can't enable usb mode from bios or anything
P.S. If i use my friends xperia with my sd card in gparted will the partition work later on my desire? thnks

no you dont need a working phone to use gparted. if u can or want to, connect your sdcard via usb or some sort and use gparted to partition it.
if i were you, i'd flash AmonRA recovery. you'll be able to partition your sdcard and format it to ext2/3/4. no need to connect to pc to partition it. hassle free.
well i got a card reader made an ext3 1gb partition, still same problem when it doesn't go past the splash screen. tried leedroid and reflex s roms.
any suggestions?
how do i go back to stock from this point?
If I were you I'd try a different ROM. THE absolute most stable, most worked at, and most widely used is Cyanogenmod, and personally I have never had any issues with that. It is an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) ROM, so you don't get HTC Sense, but you do get a lot more in speed etc.
If you're looking for a good sense ROM, I'd recommend RCMixS, or Cool Sensation V6 (If you don't mind your phone being a little slow for looks etc.)
Hello,
i know this is something that been around xda forums, but after reading a lot of similar threds (and installing, reinstalling, formattning a dozens of times) I still get no success with internal memory usage.
This is what i got:
Desire S-OFF, newest radio, and cm7 r2 hboot, 16gb sd with a 14gb fat32 and 2gb ext4 - all of those made for Cool3D Runny v2.
Ive tried variouse methods of formatting my SD - gparted (with ext3, ext4, 1gb, 2gb) via 4ext recovery same values but every time i install the new rom (and yes - i also formatted - not only wiped all /data /system etc directories) i get 100mb free on internal space. When i recover my data and apps from titatnium I end up with 20Mb free. There is clearly something wrong but i have no idea what else i could try?
Whats interesting, last evening i got app2sdgui from the market and after giving it a run a get a message:
could not start for one reason: 1) your device is not rooted (well... it is) 2) a2sd scripts not found (no idea what that) 3) no ext partition found (4ext recovery sees its clearly).
Anyone? Please? Im going crazy with it.
EDIT:
just to make things straight i formatted everything one more time.
1st partiton fat32, 2nd 1gb ext4
after 1st boot I get: 156mb used, 132 free
so it still looks like too much is sitting inside internal mem...
How many are your apps?
Are you rooted? (Sometimes there's something wrong with the superuser.apk . If that's the case check the ROM thread, there should be a solution there)
Is the app2sd script enabled?(check the first page of titanium backup. If there are data on the ext partition., then it does)
Also resize your ext to 1gb(aka 1024mb) cause there have been reported issues with bigger partitions
Does your ROM support ext4?
All these are the general "troubleshooting questions"
Hope I helped

currently im on a fresh install of cool3d with a 1gb ext4 on a cm7 r2 hboot with s-off.
I got a root checker app from market and it states i have no root privilges which is surprising since i did already run unrEVOked previously. Anyway - im trying to root again and see what the results will be.
OK - this is what I got:
unrEVOked says: ERROR failed to root. Is your firmware too new?
Bootloader screen says:

radio-5.17.05.23
I actually thought that after s-off my phone will be permanently rooted and flashing cm7 r2 hboot and then cool3d want change it.
Is there a way to gain root again other then enrevoked (i.e. downgrade)?
Try www.revolutionary.io
If it doesn't work then grab an ruu, flash it and try again

Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum and to rooting and installing new roms, but since the issue with the lack of space on my Desire was giving me problems I decided to root, s-off and install a new rom this weekend.
I must say at first I thought I was way over my head, but after reading around the forum I started to understand a little bit of how the whole thing works.
I was sucessfull instaling everything and had the Runnymede up and running with 4Ext Recovery till the last hour. I was having a little bit of lag so I saw my sdcard was not formated as it was suposed to, or as it is listed on the developers forum of the Runnymede.
I had created the 1Ext with 512Mb, the 2Ext with 1024 and the swap with 1024, nevertheless everything was working properly with just a little lag.
So a few minutes ago I decided to format the sd card as per indication of a member here with the following guide 4ext_Partition Guide.zip - [Click for QR Code] (6.35 MB, 20 views).
After I booted the phone it won't pass the galaxy nexus splash screen, it just keeps splashing and never enters the rom. I retried to format the sd card but still with no success.
Did I do something wrong? Should I reformat the sdcard with another arrangement? Or do I need to wipe everything again and reinstall the ROM? I would like to avoid this last one since I had already everything ready and synced.
Looking forward to receive your expert comments, I remain sending you my best regards and thanking you for your help.
José
After reformat you need to flash rom again for that reason you stuck in boot loop
Runnymede AIO requires only FAT32 + 1-1.5 GB EXT 4, No second EXT, No swap
Regarding your question about back up: use titanium backup
Hi,
Thank you very much for your fast reply, I had no idea that reformating the partitions in the sd card I would to reinstall the rom. I am always learning
Well I have reformated the sd card and I am now installing the rom again, I hope everything goes well.
Thanks again.
Don't forget thanks button if helped, please
Done, thanks again
Well hello again, i have been watching the thread of the ROM i have installed from Runnymede and I have some doubts, could someone please help.
Thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315961&page=1160
Here are my questions:
- The reason I have rooted and s-off my desire was to install a new ROM to have space available for apps. The ROM is running perfectly but on the storage menu my internal space available was around 140 Mb, I have installed a few apps from the market and the space is now 101 Mb. Did I do something wrong and still don't have space available?
- Here are the steps I took: I had a stock HTC Desire with Hboot 0.93, so I rooted with unrevoked, s-off with revolution, installed 4Ext touch, formated the sdcard with 1 ext4 partition (1024Mb) and the rest fat32, wiped the phone, installed the rom, and that's it.
I can't remember if it installed the a2sd or ad2sdx, I did a typical install and only changed the camera option to record 720p.
The phone is working perfectly but I am wondering if I will be out of space after installing a few more apps?
If you need more information feel free to ask.
Thank you.
José
Hi all. This is my first post so if it’s in the wrong section or anything please let me know!
So, my contract (finally) ran out with Orange UK and I bit the bullet and rooted my HTC Desire. I was a complete noob to it when I started so I followed what seemed to be the easiest method. I used the Revolutionary method and installed Clockworkmod as it offers at the end of the process. Then I installed the rooted version of stock Gingerbread (2.3.3).
For the sake of clarity, here’s all the info of my phone as it stands:

RECOVERY: Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4
My question is where to go now. The main reason I rooted (I guess as with most Desire owners) was so I could gain more storage space. I’ve read about repartitioning the SD card which I will probably go for in the long run, but I wanted to try flashing a custom ROM first just to get a feel for things. Would flashing a custom ROM free up some memory in itself, due to losing the HTC stock apps and sense UI, etc?
Can anyone recommend a light ROM that would work with the version of HBOOT and CWM I have? I’ve looked at Oxygen which is supposed to be a very light Gingerbread based ROM? Does flashing a ROM require me to format my SD card or factory reset first, etc?
Any recommendations and pointers toward the process involved would be great!

Install 4ext recovery. (4ext.net)
Partition your sd-card (Back it up first) 1gb ext, and skip the rest.
Install a rom that uses any a2sd type script.
Or install mounts2sd, and enable stuff from terminal.
Light roms: Mildwild, Cyanogenmod 7, Redux
To flash a rom: Factory data reset +Wipe cache+ wipe dalvik cache
No need to wipe sd-card.
Installing above ROM's is not a best idea with Stock HBOOT which you have.
To use them flash a cm7r2 hboot or look for something else. (or you'll just waste loads of internal memory)
Try this one for example if you interested in Sense 2.1/3.0 (A2SD version for your hboot, make sure you partitioned your SD with 4ext recovery) - http://revolutionrom.com/
Do some reading ADB/Fastboot guides, once you'll understand flashing hboots it's a cake, takes like 10secs and you're setup for any ROM's out there.
Hi guys, thanks for the replies.
So if I understand it right, I'd need to flash the HBOOT to use a ROM such as Cyanogenmod (but could use my current Clockworkmod recovery), but to use Revolution ROM, I have to flash to 4EXT Recovery and partition the SD?
Would I flash 4EXT recovery first (with my stock HBOOT and ROM), then partition the SD card, then install Revolution ROM?
You can do that.

#1 If you wont flash required hboot, it will work too but you'll waste about 150Mb internal memory in this case.
#2 4ext is not requirement for anything, it's just better recovery and you can partition SD card with it. (partitioning in CWM usually doesn't work properly)
Ok, I think (since I would in the long run anyway) ill try flash 4ext recovery and then give the Revolution ROM a go.
However I just turned on my PC to find my graphics card has died so apologies if my replies are erratic!
In the meantime, does 4ext recovery partition the SD card from the recovery on the phone itself? Does it format the SD in the process?
Thanks again

Yes, partitioning happens from the recovery, and yes, data on the sd card will be lost since it's being reformatted. Also, if you flash a new ROM, your apps will be gone, so it's mainly a good idea to back them up with an app such as Titanium Backup or MyBackup and restore them to your new rom.
And dont forget to make a Nandroid backup in recovery before u start flashing anything.
Then copy it to ur computer before u format the sd card.

You can choose to not format FAT (windows) partition, in that case your data on the sd card will be untouched. (but you should backup it anyways, just in case)
Also you dont need to "flash" 4ext recovery, you just download the 4ext application and it will do the rest.

Hmm... I downloaded the 4Ext Recovery.apk and tried to use it, but when I hit "Online Install/Upgrade" I get a message saying BusyBox could not be found. So I downloaded BusyBox from the market and tried again, same message.
I opened the BusyBox app and it gives me a message that it was denied SuperUser access, even though I set the "default action" in SuperUser to Allow.
I'm using SuperUser version 3.1.3 (46) and su binary v3.1.1 (17), both of which are as far as i can tell the latest?
Thanks!
open the superuser app and change the permission for busybox from denied to allowed, see if that works

Got there in the end!
I did some uninstalling / reinstalling but what seemed to work was setting Super User's default action to "Prompt", then clicking allow at the time the app requested access. Perhaps something was wrong with SuperUser's auto allow setting. In any case I Smart Installed BusyBox and then installed 4Ext, ran the flash from the app and all fine.
So, my next step would be to make a full backup from withing 4Ext recovery (is that what's called a 'nandroid' backup?), plus copy the contents of my SD card to a PC for safe keeping, before I look at partitioning the SD?
With regards to formatting the SD, I don't have all that many apps installed (I couldn't because of low internal memory!) so I'm up for formatting it if that would work better?
What I'm not sure about is, if I partition and format the SD card, presumably that will stop me booting into my current ROM? If I manage to partition successfully, would I then switch the phone off, put the SD card in my PC, copy the Revolution ROM zip file to the root of the SD, boot back into recovery and install the ROM?
Sorry for being a rambling noob!
Thanks again,

Just install 4ext, nandroid backup, backup sd content to hdd, partition it with 1GB ext3 or ext4 (doesn't matter if you decide to format FAT partition), then do full wipe (data, cache+dalvik, system, boot), put the rom.zip on SD and flash it.
If you formatted SD now you can also copy back the music, pics etc. back on your SD.

Ok so I made a nandroid backup and then copied the entire SD to my PC. I'm currently downloading the A2SD+ version of RevolutionROM.
Just a couple of (probably silly) questions:
1. I've not read about wiping boot before, presume this won't affect HBOOT or Recovery?
2. Once I've partitioned and assuming I do format the FAT partition, how do I then get the ROM.zip onto the SD? Will I be able to power off the phone after partitioning, remove SD card, copy from PC, put back in then boot into recovery again without a problem?
Cheers

1. No it wont affect.
2. You can mount USB storage from recovery and copy files from there.
Sorted!
Writing this from the xda developers app installed on my Desire running revolution ROM.
Massive thanks to you all for your help getting me here! Could I just ask, how do I manage the apps and their caches/data? Do I need to use App2SD anymore or are they automatically using the newly created EXT4 partition?
When I go to manage applications, the phone still only shows around 134MB remaining?
Thank you so much again!

Well if you want more space for apps, another step would be flashing hboot appropriate for ROM, most of them supports cm7r2 hboot which has nearly twice more internal memory reserved for apps.
With cm7r2 hboot i would recommend trying some AOSP ROM's as they are much smaller and fits nicely.
For example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1453287&page=379 (it's easy to settle with as it's automatically moving apps/dalvik to ext partition, dont need to setup any a2sd scripts)
Or any other AOSP rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
Just keep looking for something that you'll like.
Ah, so I might have misunderstood, I thought partitioning the SD card would cause Revolution ROM to read the 1GB EXT4 partition as internal memory. Or that I would have a function to move app and dalvik from within the ROM? Is that not the case or is it just a manual process to move them?

Sorry, just noticed something strange:
When I booted into 4EXT recovery, I got this message:
Recovery is in safe mode. This is because the following partition is not accessible: "system"
Please enter the wipe menu and format system! If you changed hboot you should choose to format all partitions (except sdcard).
Afterwards please reboot recovery.
I thought something had gone wrong in the install of Revolution ROM yesterday, so I re-did everything (formatted all partitions, formatted SD FAT32, re-partitioned SD card). After a reboot the message was gone, so I re-installed Revolution ROM, which started ok. But then I rebooted to recovery and the message was back!
The recovery itself seems to work ok, but what would the reason for this message be??
Hi,
I cannot find an answer for my problem. I have rooted Desire. I have installed 10 different ROMs on 2 different sd cards and my phone is regularly freezing at least twice per day. Phone dos not answer for calls, screen is black and I cannot switch it on, I have to remove battery. It happens that it freezes 5 or more times per day. It is really annoying. I have no idea why it happens. Freezing is wierd because the screen is black and not responsive but e.g. radio is still playing. First I thought it is ROM's fault so installed few of them. Then I changed sd card but this also didn't help. I think the problem may be in storing apps in sd card because if there is no apps installed the phone is working fine.
Please correct me if I am wrong. Is it possible to install custom Sense ROM on e.g. CM7r2 so there is more space for apps but without sd-ext partition? I have tried to do it with one custom ROM but it did not even start. So how to remove/disable/switch off app2sd, data2sd or int2sd from custom ROMs? Or is there a CM7r2 ROM that is not using sd card for apps storing? I don't want to return to stock hboot and stock system because then I have too little space for apps (147M) but with CM7r2 hboot (287M) should be enough.
I am not sure if my thinking is correct, I will appreciate any help. Maybe there is another solution for freezing system problem?
Piotr
My phone now:
Recovery: 4ext
S-Off, CM7r2
Radio: 5.17.05.23
hboot 6.93.1002
Card: 8GB class 10
You may be having a faulty sd-ext partition. How did you partition your sd-card?
Any AOSP GB rok should fit in the cm7r2 hboot. Just delete a2sd scripts from the system>etc>init.d folder, and you shouldn't have problems.

Thanks. I partitioned sd card using linux, alligment is checked. Should i partition it using 4ext recovery? does INT2SD has scripts in the same folder? if I remove sd-ext partition totaly will android still work?
Roms with int2sd won't work without an ext partition.
And yes, follow the guide in my sig for a correct partition.
It works now!
Before I was always using Sense ROMs and all of them were freezing on my phone. I have done sd card partitioning again using your guide and I have installed system you use MildWild.Since I installed it I didn't have any problems! Thank you very much. I don't know if it is partitioning or new system that helped but most important is that works fast and stable for 2 days now with all my apps installed!
This is great I don't remember when was the last time my phone was working for 2 days in a row without freezing and taking battery off! So much better now
Thanks!!
No problem.
Installing CM7/r2 HBOOT
This is actually realy simple,
Before you do anything, Backup everything PLEASE.
This will erase your current rom, so you have to install it again.
go to alpharev.nl and scroll down till you see Bravo CM7 r2. Click on Download. Not the regular Download,
But the download after that. it's called : PB99IMG_cm7r2. Download that, and remove the _cm7r2 text. So
that the file is named PB99IMG.
Put your SD Card into your computer, and take this file ( PB99IMG) onto your SD card.Boot into the bootloader, ( By pressing Volume down + Power ) and wait. it will say something like : '' Would you like to update? '' Volume up for ''yes'' Volume down for ''no'' .
do ''yes'' . After that , it will ask you to reboot. You want to do that.
After that, i faced the problem that 4EXT Recovery didn't work. Solution: Go again into bootloader, and select clear storage.
