I prefer not to try at that price until I know for sure

I doubt that'll work as it's not an MHL connector, which I understand is HDMI and USB combined, but if it somehow does... bargain!
Lol now i look properly its not going to work at all
imo very stupid not to use standard HDMI mini port... now we have to buy adapters and ****.. and the phone won't charge if you don't have special adapter.. epic fail imo.. anyway they should include adapters with the phone.
I agree, they should include the required cables and adapters in the box, other manufacturers like Nokia do with their flagship handsets.
I think MHL will ultimately be better than mini HDMI port though, since its looking very likely to become the next standard connection.
I'm hoping to get one of the MHL cable/adapters from the MHL consortium for my Clove Blog review, if I do then I will post up a youTube video for everyone. At the present time the consortium PR person is trying to procure one for me, but it seems likely its inordinately difficult, so remains to be seen whether I will have it in time for the review.
In the very least, you'd expect them to have manufactured and released the accessories by the time the actual phone is released.

due to my low post count i cant post this as a link.
have spotted this adaptor for the HTC Flyer, says will be in stock 16/5
I assume this would work guess a little more research needed 1st.
Here you go... It's supposedly the official Samsung Galaxy S II MHL adaptor.

First stock due mid-June just saying.
Can someone confirm for me that this is the same cable. They call it an Ethernet Micro-HDMI (Type D).
Edit: Monoprice[)0Tcom has them for like 5 bucks. I can give the link so you can see the cable once I get some more posts in here.
I'm not worried about the Ethernet part, it should not get in the way because the extra connections for it are female.
Also, there is a lot of great info on these forums. Look forward to sticking around and modding some phones in the future.
Edit 2: So when searching for the Samsung cable by Goog'ling the phone, they call it either "microUSB" or "HML port"
That site has two different types that they call: Mini-HDMI (Type C) and Micro-HDMI (Type D) the type C looks like the usual Samsung cable connection, I was just wondering if there is some different way they wired the Samsung cables so that we had to use those ones. I cannot see them doing that though since there are many devices switching to the same cable as well.
The trick is that standard HDMI so far does not include a link for power. The Samsung MHL adapter has a microUSB plug that connects into the phone and a microUSB jack to connect your charger, and the mini-HDMI jack to hook up to the TV so the device gets charged while playing back. In a future specification update, HDMI will probably be amended to include a power link.
Some info here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtwTcnR0hqA
Clove told me that the MHL cables from different manufacturers will be compatible which is useful to know. I guess they all conform to the standard

Just seen this in the description for the HTC version - interesting
" Also if your television supports MHL enabled HDMI connections, then you can charge your HTC Sensation when connected and control the Sensation using the television remote (MHL enabled televisions expected late 2011)"

Thats only true if you TV is MHL capable (hint: nobodies is yet).
i dont understand how the phone has is out but the cables are not? how do they know it works if theres no cables lol
Now for all you Nitro HD users who didn't know that it is possible to stream video through the Micro USB port, well yes you can That port is actually a MHL port (Mobile High-def Link), which combines both Micro USB and HDMI features together, and all you need is a MHL adapter to connect your phone to your HDTV and stream movies while having your phone charged.
Now my question goes to those who know about these things. Any idea which MHL adapter is compatible with this phone, or can we use any adapter from any maker? And also, has anybody tried using the MHL capability on this phone?
Well, one would think it wouldn't be proprietary based on the fact that all MHL enabled phones use this as a standard now. I have used a MHL cable from an HTC Raider on a Galaxy S II and it worked just fine.
Does anyone else hear a slight grinding/grainy noise when you plug in the Micro USB? It always makes me feel like I'm breaking it.
any mhl adapter should work.
i use the mhl adapter from samsung infuse and it works! but remember to plug in power for it to works.

plug in power? what do you mean? I thought the whole idea behind mhl is that your phone will get charged via hdmi while streaming through it.

I think if the tv supports mhl mode then you don't need to plug in power.
If tv just has hdmi port then you need to plug in power.
The mhl adapter has microusb port for power input.

Which one and where?
Mine should be arriving on Thursday - just grabbed one of the many off amazon...
So my bro got me an Accell MHL adapter for Christmas and I'm finding it doesn't work with my phone. It doesn't even provide a charge. I'm thinking its physical dimensions are such that the connector into the phone doesn't go in far enough (kinda LG's fault for making the port recessed, kinda their fault for making the connector so damn fat). So, if you guys find one that works for cheap, do you think you could hit us with a link?
TL/DR, Accell's doesn't work, please post ones that do

it needs power for mhl to works. did you try to reboot the phone after you plug in mhl and power input for mhl? i tried on samsung infuse mhl adapter and it works!
Yeah, I provided power and performed every possible sequence of hooking it all up that I could think of and also rebooted several times. I really think it's the form factor of the Accell connector combined with our slightly recessed port that causes it to not go in far enough. I just need someone to give me a suggestion of a brand to buy that they know firsthand works well with our P930.

I've read several discussions about MHL cable, some suggested to buy only OEM stuff, some say even non-OEM stuff works good.
Now that some time has passed, what's the suggested MHL cable to buy?
Go to monoprice dot com and get the one they have. Mine works great and it's like $8.
I ordered the Monoprice one as well. Does yours require a micro USB connection to a power source in order for it to display?

I've heard a few reports of people finding their cables only seem to output 720 instead of 1080. Not sure if it's cheapo cable related, or what, but possibly something to look into before ordering.
I'm really looking forward to grabbing one of these cables and a bluetooth mouse & Keyboard.

Of course it would output 720p. It only outputs 1080p when you play a 1080p video. Either it works or it doesn't. I'm sure all of the mhl adapters will output 1080p when the phone should.

I have a genuine one, it's fine, but as you know you need a charger and HDMI cable. Wife's SE Neo has micro hdmi connector and she only need a cable (supplied) and that is definitely more practical.
Wondering if exist some MHL that works without power adapter ?!?!
Has anyone yet found a cheap MHL to HDMI adapter that's confirmed to work with the Galaxy S3?
The official Samsung adapter is still $40(!) and who knows if THAT will be pin incompatible in the future too (MHL is supposed to be standard).
How about the $13-14 ones from Amazon that is supposedly Samsung branded? I have the one that came with the Infuse but I haven't tested it out yet.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MHL-H...F8&qid=1340683252&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+mhl
That will not work, S III requires a 'special' adapter, the older ones, such as for the S II, will not work.
Yea i bought the cheap Menotek mhl adapter ($13 shipped) from Amazon about a week or so before i got the s3....
I found out later that the s3 has a different pin out so yea, no dice on the Menotek.

I'm wondering if it wouldn't be cheaper to buy the old 5pin mhl adapter and get the new adapter to make it work. I know it sounds funny to get an adapter for your adapter but I have seen the old mhl for as low as $10 (generic) and the new connector for not much more than that. Were as the new Samsung cord cost $40. I haven't seen any (generic) ones yet.
With this being said I wonder if there would be any limitations to doing this. Can anyone confirm?
I also looked at the links (Tokcin) and I think those are for older 5pin phones. In fact one of the reviews said it didn't work for the s3 not to buy it.

I just ordered one from monoprice and will get the 5 to 11 pin adapter when available.
I read recently that the 11 pin interface allows for MHL and USB Host at the same time, which I don't care about, so see no need for the $40 11 pin MHL adapter. Still not sure how that is even supposed to work without another adapter anyway to split the MHL and USB Host functionality.

It will not work as is. You either need to buy the adapter to make it work(costs $10) or buy the new cord for the s3($40). The only down fall to buying the adapter instead of the new cord is no one knows if there is going to be a limitation to it. The new cord uses the 7 pin layout instead of the 5 pin layout. The new 7 pin layout is said to be able to do simultaneous mhl and otg. I am not sure if the adapter will let you do that. As far as I know there are no cords out to allow the simultaneous mhl and otg right now any way. I would just buy the adapter.

I'm really hoping someone comes out with an MHL+OTG cable, would make things very fun and exciting. I may have to pull the trigger as it is on the new MHL cable just to play with in the meantime, wish it wasn't so expensive.

I tried two different generic ones I had, and neither worked. Expansys has them for $30 free shipping on their site though. I also posted a thread letting ppl know I did get it working on a 720p display I used it on, with no problems. Im actually glad I spent the money, because its a much more secure fit then the generic ones vIve always used, it locks in place kind of. I just hope Samsung uses the same one for their new devices from here out!

Can you give us a link to the one you got and knows working? My 1080p tv just crapped out and I have to use my 720p/1080I tv now. I have been waiting on a cheaper solution to Samsung's $40 cable because I plan on buying the WiFi dongle went it comes out. By the way from what I understand Samsung's cable won't work with anything other than 1080p. So if your tv doesn't support 1080p it won't work. Thanks in advance.

External hard drive with movies mounted over OTG while outputting it to a large HDTV @ 1080p gloriousness would be a start. with a cable like that you basically have a docking station in a cable, very interesting stuff.

I've had good success with Monoprice's MHL adapter and it's just $10, as opposed to the $40 Samsung wants. You do need the 11-to-5 adapter for it though.
One thing to note : If your HDTV doesn't have MHL support, you need to attach a charger to the MHL adapter to power it (that's what the female micro usb port on it is for). Took me an hour to figure that out when I first bought it.
Ordered the adapter
