As the windows phone blog says here:

Using the leaked firmware is not recommended.
I can attest to this.
The version of mango supplied by MS directly do NOT include drivers for any of the updated hardware features.
For example, I cannot use the digital compass in my Samsung Focus in Mango until Samsung releases their updated firmware including the drivers for it.
Just a heads up!
I guess this would be related why I can't get the HTC DLNA app?
Sent from my HD7 T9292 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Which is why I hope we can upgrade from the RTM to the bundle including the firmware. I don't want to have to roll back my, my dad's and my brothers phones, but I guess if I gotta.....
Do you guys understand that when you are updating the devices with leaked OS, there is certain amount of RISK involved and not everything would work unless it's an official update.
We will find out soon... Life is all about risk!

I've been saying this for months!
However I must say the battery has improved with drivers for mango
really good battery life
I haven't noticed huge differences
I've Mango leaked RTM on my Samsung Omnia 7, without drivers. I think that I'll update my Mango with no-prob to the official one with the specific drivers... *_*
I just don't want to see a bunch of hate for WP7 in the next few months after Mango comes out when some apps don't work as the person used the RTM.

I don't think you'll see that. Anyone running 7720 - going through the entire procedure - will be OK with rolling back if need be. I don't think any of these posts suggest anyone will be resentful.
That being said, there's no reason we shouldn't hope for or work on finding a workaround to provide an update path...

Doesn't really seem like something worth communicating IMO. Most existing devices out there that were eligible for updates already have them and Mango is coming today so it doesn't really make sense to do an update to 7390 and then again to 7720.

The Now app that you can get on Samsung phones is excellent. It's so much better than the HTC Hub. The Now app has a better weather function and is faster and cleaner than the Hub. It has an excellent news function as well. It also has a stocks list.
The best part of the Now app for me was that I could easily remove it If you are not in the US and are not interested in stocks it is worthless. Can't customize it.

No live tile was a deal breaker for me.
the HTC hub just released an update that improved speed and stability but at least I don't have to worry about my phone bricking during updates or my updates being withheld/delayed.
My Omnia updated without issue and very early. Also Samsung updated the firmware to fix the updating issues so people need to stop trolling about Samsung devices. They make the best all-around WP7 phones.

Personally I don't much care for Samsung phones. They tend to be plastic'y and cheaply built. But the "Now" app, which is what this thread is about...aka: not Samsung...does more than my HTC's Hub. I always liked the hub in the past. Now that I've fully realized the "Now" app, I was astounded that some people, I remember way in the past, smack-talked it in favor of the Hub.
I love it. I pretty much just use it for the Stocks, but its a pretty nice app overall. Nice layout, design ect.

It's not a revolutionary app by any means. But it is better than the Hub and the Weather displays much faster. It includes a news screen and stocks screen. The Hub only has Weather and featured apps. What I am impressed by with it is that it provides me with several functions that I can eliminate elsewhere on the main screen of my Focus and it displays faster than the Hub.
I uninstalled my 'Now' app within the first one hour of unboxing.. makes the whole front screen look cheap.. we need more wide tile apps.. plz

Yeah, I read about that bit of misfortune Samsung decided to perpetrate on unsuspecting buyers. When I bought my Focus, I had no clue there was different revisions of the phone out. When I read about that, I was thankful mine is a 1.3. That type of stuff is another reason I don't warm up to Samsung and why I would choose a different brand if given an alternative.

I've got one and have had ZERO problems with it. it's an awesome phone. My largest gripe is you can accidentally push the back or bing button and jumps you out of a game or app, but you get used to it. The other thing is why did they put the charge jack on the top???!!! When your in the car with the charge cable, it's a s s backwards and very annoying!!!
But like I said, other than that it's a solid phone and the Mango OS I have on it is really really nice...

I think it sux. After almost a year they manage to implant a custom ringtones, and fail (no custom ringtones for alerts). Guess they need to hire another one for that.
They change volume bar with numbers (wee what a change), but still no separate volume for phone and device.
But I must say, its good for facebook junkies.

If you are running the Beta it will definitly be impossible to upgrade from the Beta to the final, carrier and OEM approved version of Mango.
Most likely this will be the case for the leaked RTM as well but you never know. If you have to roll back to NoDo you will lose every Text and save games etc. created after you left NoDo, so downgrading to NoDo now will at least allow you to keep those after downgrading to NoDo.
However, if it turns out that you can upgrade from the leaked RTM to the final thing, then you won't lose anything and you might wanna take the risk and wait for the rollout to begin.
Awesome news
Just saw the post on twitter, and I must say that I'm pretty exited!
I'm actually gonna wipe my phone before the update. Some may wonder why, and it's simple: My region thingy won't work in Norway before Mango, HAH!

Yeah I read that as well but the instructions might just be "downgrade to NoDo using your backup" etc. Time will tell and fortunately it's not that far away.
The only reason they made the announcement is because we now know when Apple will reveal the next iPhone which basically means no living sould will give a damn about Mango. Way to go Microsoft, good luck with that!
I'll believe when I see it. Until then, it's all rumor and speculation.
There should have been a disclaimer that "unless you're on the AT&T network, then you'll need to wait until December or January since Mango is complex and needs to be tested before release."
Can anyone tell me why carriers have anything to do with updates at all? Carriers simply provide the infrastructure for a phone to work. What have they got to do with anything? It's something I have never understood. My ISP isn't testing my Windows 7 updates before I install them, why would they do so on my phone?

It has to do with service compatibility. They make sure the phones perform properly with the various services the carriers provide. Plus, on top of that, they make sure the phone that bares their logo and name performs to their specific standards. Any malfunctioning phone can potentially give the carrier a bad rep.
I know from experience that a phone sold outright...unlocked and from the handset maker...can be buggy as hell. Whereas the exact same phone under the carriers moniker is a sweet and well functioning phone. This doesn't apply to Apple, though. Apple is in full control of any and all updates for the iPhone. But I bet the carriers who carry iPhones are allowed testing before updates are issued.
I'm glad this is more concrete than the fall. Lets see if ATT keeps to their words and updates my damn phone in a week or two.
Not even fall yet and an official announcement. Good job.
Samsung are beginning to roll out the fix for the volume bug. https://twitter.com/#!/SamFirmware/status/140471495288823808
Any more info, like a date, when to expect the update?
Oh, wait, it's Samsung, so it will arrive "anytime soon", which means "by the end of November", which actually means "maybe November, but definitely in December"...
Nice, I should have my Nexus by Tues or Wednesday then.
Interesting it's a radio update, not Android or anything lower level.
How will the fix be delivered? direct to the handset via update or USB?

OTA to the handset.
Once someone gets the OTA - they can pull it from a logcat and get the URL - then anyone can download apply without waiting for their IMEI to be flagged to receive the update.

As has been proven the bug occurs when the phone is in the bootloader, so it's nothing to do with Android.
The patch needs to be at a hardware level, so it will be firmware update. That comes from Samsung, not Google.
It might be the case that the patch for this particular problem was developed by Samsung but it'll still be released by Google not Samsung. So we are waiting for both but ultimately it'll be Googles decision when to push it. At least that's my understanding of the update process of a Nexus phone.
some people in this thread need to remember a few things:
1) Nexus handsets are made as a collaboration between Google and whoever the chosen manufacturer is.
2) Google push all unbranded Nexus updates, not the manufacturer.
in the case of this update, it will likely be pushed as an update to Android anyway - I have never seen a baseband change come through to an Android handset without it being with an incremental update to Android.
I've got to the stage when I don't care who does what - all I want is an update so that the phone is usable. I suspect many early adopters think the same.
I agree mate. I don't care if apple make the fix. For me this weekend staying in London my phone was unusable in certain parts. Grrrrrrrr

Thats not directly a problem with 7.8 it is a problem how the app was coded. the developer of this particular app has done something wrong... his site has no valid url for a live tile so the OS searches again and again, because it can happen that the live tile is not found in the first attempt but this is the fault of the developer which has not fixed this issue where to find the new live tile picture...

Still no update? I have an at&t Lumia 900 and got a message today that an update is available. I think there was some issue with the update earlier this year and they halted the roll out so they could fix something. Once the fix was made I guess they started rolling out the update slowly. I actually called at&t a couple of weeks ago and the guy I spoke with was clueless about Windows Phone 7.8. He kept swearing my phone was up to day. Then he put me on hold and spoke to several other people who were about as clueless. I really don't understand why people work in tech support if they have no interest in the device they are supporting.
Got It, But No Bluetooth Share
I got the update when plugging into Zune. No problems..However, still no availabilty of Nokia Bluetooth Share in the Marketplace. Marketplace still says not available for my device. I hate to say this, being a long time Windows Phone user, but this Bluetooth Share fiasco is a joke. Can no one get their act together any longer? I realize this is a Microsoft/Nokia issue but it is laughable now. Bluetooth Share continues to be hyped on the Nokia site as a benefit of 7.8. Well then, where is it?????????????????????????
I updated via Zune my ZTE Tania easy, in 15-20 minutes. New WP 7.8 is great, i like it.:highfive:
