I read an article on Droid-Life and there supposedly is an update coming for this phone. I am currently running rmk's Debloated/Rooted/De-odexed ROM. Am I going to even get a notification for the update? I don't want to accept the update but will it force me to install it?

I was thinking I could just use what I like about it and freeze what I don't want in it.
Or at least hide what I don't like.
I would rather hide or freeze what I don't use/want so it is easier to go back to stock (just in case).
This new radio may break root for people, luckily I used the xtc clip, but at the top now it says locked..
---------- Post added at 11:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:07 PM ----------
my hboot now rocks a pink ***LOCKED*** on the top. lol
I am rooted running the stock ROM. Will I lose Root if I accept this update? I am Rooted with Revolutionary.
Yeah. I'm just gonna wait and see what happens throughout the week.
I have it deferred until Saturday.
Maybe something will come about.
The OTA will only appear to phones running stock or a rom based on stock framework, right?
it should ontophantoms.....at least thats the way i understood it from the guys at verizon......i haven't had the OTA popup yet for me, so im happy haha
Thanks, that's what I'm hoping too.
A friend of mine has a DInc2 and he was running completely stock, unrooted. Took the 2.3.4 OTA and now he's got the "Locked-Security Warning" message.

this patch must break the gb root we just got so now refurbs that come w the new update will not b able to root w/o xtc clip... here we go again
Do yourselves a favor and freeze the com.smithmicro.dm application so it can't update ota, and then just wait for the rooted releases.
Sent from my ADR6350VW
Can anybody share it?
If people are worried about getting the ota and losing root...with root explorer in rw(read write) go to etc/security then find the file called otacerts.zip. Rename it otacerts.bak. Prolly not needed cuz we have cwr but i do it anyways just in case.

Are you on ChiefzReloaded's OTA ROM or just SlideMeRoot?
Do NOT update if you are on either, but we need to talk if you're getting an OTA on Chiefz's OTA ROM (will probably be Froyo Espresso)

It seems like you're both on SlideMeRoot then, download ChiefzReloaded's OTA ROM and flash it and you'll be on the latest version of Espresso
I thought it might be that but wasnt sure and just wanted to make sure it wasnt FROYO.

I just had this update being pushed to my phone. I removed the battery just to make sure it didn't get applied. Does anyone else know if it auto-applies?
It could very well be Froyo since T-Mobile said mid/late August.
I'm going to take the risk and let it download, then pull the zip. (Since I'm one of the couple developers left in this community... someone has to do it )

Updates don't automatically apply, even if they are completely downloaded to /cache.
UPDATE: I don't think this is anything special. I think this was somehow triggered by people running the beta (improperly labeled by Eugene as "ENG") bootloader for our phones. Version says "1.26.531.1 CL174750 release-keys" and the dates in the archive seem to support the fact that it is from MAY, 2010. Looking into it further just to make sure.
EDIT: DO NOT APPLY THIS UPDATE!
EDIT2: This looks like an attempt by T-Mobile to fix root bugs in the older versions of phones running BETA ( < 1.35.x) bootloader. DO NOT APPLY THIS UPDATE.
My wife is getting notifications on hers. She is on eugenes Rom, slidemeroot I believe. I just wantto watch this thread so I know what to do here.

Working on that. Hopefully I'll have an update to counter this "soon". By "soon" I mean: when it's ready - since I'm currently at work that may not be for a while.
I just got that update and I felt like a dare devil and applied it..it rebooted into recovery then the cellphone image apeared and a green loading bar underneath it ..it loaded about halfway then stoped. A question mark appeared were the phone icon was then rebooted..nothing happened. My phone is still rooted and non of my setting changed. Just thought I would throw that info out there.

OK, what I'm dealing with is an Xperia Play on 2.3.2 that has been flashed to the Cricket network. Now because of that, I can't get the official 2.3.3 update from Verizon. I noticed that Doomlords 1 click root doesn't work on this version of the play. I was wondering if there is ANY way to manually download the update to 2.3.3 without having to root? If I do need to root, what is the best method for my phone and what will I need to do to get it to 2.3.3?
Thanks in advanced for the help and the flames
What model is your phone? R800x, R800a...?
You should be able to just flash new firmware without root with "flashtool" because that's what I did with my R800i when I bought it. You just need to find the right firmware for your phone model (look in the development forum).
It's 2.3.4 that you want. Much better than 2.3.3.

If you want 2.3.3, your kinda out on the cold, unfortunately there isn't a working copy of it available for a non-verizon/non-bootloader unlocked r800x... I can help you with root, but that's it...
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
Well, as far as I know it still has the Verizon firmware on it since it still tries to connect to the verizon app store all the time. If all I need to do to get 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 is unlock the bootloader and root, I think I can do that with the normal 800x way unless there is an update to all of that to make it simpler.
Just be careful with what you try and read, alot...

Would it be possible to just flash it to 2.3.3 with flashtool without rooting?
(very sorry for all the noob questions. Only used to flashing the evo style phones and this seems like a whole new experience) I am currently trying to see if I can get the update from Verizon themselves but it's been sitting on the "checking for updates" screen for 30 min now. I know on Sprint, if you flash the phone to Cricket you can still get the Android update from their network, but it seems unlikely for Verizon. Essentially. what I want to do for now is just get the phone to 2.3.3 without rooting.
Verizon is a pain in the butt, if you do manage to get a download for it (not on your phone) please, find a way to upload it to mills in the dev section or anybody else working on a kernel for the R800x
---------- Post added at 03:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:21 PM ----------
I was wrong, wotanserver.com does not have the kernel, unfortunately they say they do, but the don't have it on their program
Should I even attempt flashtool? I have seen some posting where it will work, but others have said it doesn't recognize their phone.

Hello Guys (and gals). Having an issue applying O2's new 2.17 OTA update. I did have my device rooted and CWM installed but noting else after that (no custom roms, etc.). I have tried every unrooting method (flashboot signed recovery and signed boot, relocking bootloader, etc), running RUU manually (only O2 UK RUU is 1.26 - my device was OTA 1.29, hboot 0.96 so I am getting 140 Bootloader version error).
Is there anything i can do to force on the legit O2 OTA that was released (past the phone going down a storm drain and the insurance claimed for a new device??? Not that I would do that of course ). I would like to be able to run OTA's handy in the future - but rooting does have its benifits - but for now, any assist on helping with the O2 OTA would be greatly appreciated.
You cannot accept an OTA update with CWM installed.
You must have stock recovery installed to accept the OTA.

Hello all,
I'll try and keep this short and sweet. I have a Verizon HTC 10. I recently used Sunshine to Unlock and S-off, and I have TWRP installed and I am rooted. Should I take the Verizon OTA that was apparently released today? (Security fix it claims, no additional bug fixes or anything.)
Will I lose my root if I do? Quite frankly it doesn't seem worth the hassle if that's the case...but I also don't want to have to keep delaying this OTA every day to get the message to go away...
Thoughts?
Thank you!
