Coming from a Fascinate and Charge, I loved having Voodoo Sound to enhance my headphone experience. I was wondering what kind of audio chip does the Nexus have? Is it like the Wolfson? Or better/inferior?

Read this. In short, it uses TI DAC. Reported to have good quality.

Question: If I use a bluetooth stereo headset, will the audio chip of the phone or music devices in general matter anymore?

No it won't matter anymore. All DAC dutes will be handled by the bluetooth headset.
Where did you learn to root your Fascinate? Ive been trying for the past 4 months and its impossible. I really want voodoo sound
Hello All
I always used this app on my samsung galaxy s ! this is the best headphone amplifier !
1 week ago i bought my new samsung galaxy note and soled out my galaxy s !
after installing this app it says that this device does not support extended sound controls !
how can i get this app working ? Any ideas ?
Thankss
You cannot, the device is not supported
Go get "voodoo louder": works perfectly and by buying it (it's very cheap) you can support one of the most brilliant developers here.

True?

Is that true? I believed you need just root. I have VOODOO LOUDER installed on a stock but rooted KKA kernel but I haven't checked it yet.
most of the stock kernels are supported
there is another app named Voodoo louder,
not sure if they are the same

just bought voodoo louder knowing that voodoo control plus doesn't work on galaxy note. before the purchase in android market there are steps to determine if your kernel is supported, in my case i am on XXLA3 rooted with CWM, all are in green hence i was able to purchase, only €1. i can't live with my note having experienced voodoo control plus with my galaxy s.
if only these worked with blue-tooth wireless headsets :-(
Sorry for the noob question, but does voodoo
Louder works only for head phone or speakers as well?

it should work as long as a jack is connected, it doesn't recognize whether it is an external speaker or headphone.

I had that problem too. It was the market app. Try a fix depending on your ROM or reinstall it.

Interesting app, i was really disappointed with the audio output of the note. This should be interesting.
It gives a +10.5dB increase, which is perceived as a doubling of loudness, so if you were disappointed with the loudness of the headphone output before you shouldn't be now. I absolutely require this app to drive my HE-400's (and I guess will need it for my incoming LCD-2's).
I got no market issue when purchase other app. Really want to try this, please advise.

I have been considering upgrading from vibrant to GS2, but since I so much enjoy my music on voodoo sound plus powerAmp setup in Vibrant, will it be a let down on GS2 because of inferior DAC? Those who switched from original galaxy s please comment.

simple....are you an audiophile? I mean a true one. If the answer is yes, then you'll likely be let down because the Yamaha chip isn't as good as the Wolfson according to Supercurio. If the answer is no, then you'll likely not notice the difference
When I had my vibrant, my flac albums sounded absolutely luscious, and I don't get quite the same impression with the sgs2, even before I found out about the yamaha dac. However I left my vibrant like a year ago so this is hardly valid.. I think may have had supercurios sound fix on it too.

Thanks for the replies. I won't call myself an audiophile, but once i had voodoo on, the sound from Poweramp with equalizer tweaked to my liking is very pleasing. I hope SG2 can provide at least 80% of the fidelity.
One more question. Any issues with A2DP streaming to Bluetooth headphones? Vibrant has lower quality over A2DP in spite of having BT 3.0

Dont know about A2DP... but the best bet to answer your question is Supercurio. Hit him up on twitter he'll likely reply. Also if its straight up streaming to bluetooth head phones it completely bypasses the DAC see the following tweet
http://twitter.com/#!/supercurio/status/169484560827027456
Also.. Supercurio isn't able to pull off anything like voodoo sound on the yamaha DAC.. He did do something for the international/at&t version called Voodoo Louder which i believe only boost the output volume of the headphone jack. I don't know if its coming to our SGS2, but I would say its not likely

Don't worry. As far as implemented functionality from Samsung and Android, they should be similar and infact I believe the loudspeaker amplifier seems more powerful in the new chipset (I am inferring through SGS3 specs as I believe its the same for Note 2). More importantly, it should be WAY superior to SGS2 and Note 1 as I find them absolutely useless with my powered headphones.

EDIT:
Wolfson Micro WM1811 http://www.wolfsonmicro.com/products/audio_hubs/WM1811/
100dB SNR Class W Heapdhone amp output, ReTune DSP, 3x digital interface.
Like WM8994 in Galaxy S / Nexus S, except:
1x stereo DAC instead of 2x.
2x 2W Speaker amp instead of 2x 1W
Smaller and probably cheaper, same sound quality expected.

Yup, thats what I meant. Thanks for getting the numbers. Unfortunately the stereo speaker output may not help as I believe Note 2 may have a mono speaker like the rest, pity!
Supercurio - Eagerly awaiting an update on this. Hope its coming soon as you tweeted.
People do overestimate the difference in sound quality between the sgs and other phones.
Yes, the chip in the sgs really shines with voodoo sound's amazing mechanics, but this isn't something you'll hear or can take advantage of with stock earbuds, dre or skullcandy headsets. You need at least an entry level hi fi setup or a decent set of headphones. Until you get to that point, you might as well just be using an eq.
I'm not trying to be condescending, but I think many people use a turbo and stuff it into their vw beetle and expect to go 300 kmh
Just ordered a note 2, and will be looking forward to test it beside my sgs!

I have an sgs as well as the note2 now....
I own sony extra bass earphones they sound really awesome in the samsung galaxy S , just a little less in the Note2 but all the difference I see is of the bass ..the galaxy s pumps those beats quite well unlike the note2
And just fyi just throw the stock samsung earphones in the dustbin..they are worst like made in china nit china is to blame but its cheapass ! ( Sony made in Philippines)

The chip in the SGS really did shine with a bit of Voodoo:
Youtube: watch?v=-c5XOTP77qs
It's really rare for a smartphone to be able to record in extreme environments like that. The Nokia Lumia 920 is another phone with similar capabilities, here's a comparison of that one with the HTC 8x at the same event:
Youtube: watch?v=svM5g_9539Y
Phones in general get the result of the HTC, including the SGS without the Voodoo fix. I Haven't really tried the new gen Samsung's in a location like this, but I know that the SGS3 sounds basically like the HTC above, because the microphone doesn't enable recording for loud environments in the software.
Sure, recording in loud environments isn't something you normally do, but, it's still nice to have the ability to do it.
Sorry for the "broken" youtube links, apparently I'm not old enough to post links...

Awesome! Now we finally have voodoo like sound on our Note 2.
Couple of things missing in Siyah's implementation:
1. No volume slider hack so to keep digital volume max and tweaking analog one needs to be done through Stweaks app and the change happens after we change and hit "Apply" against realtime hack in voodoo sound app. This means, dynamic range is low in lower volume and noise floor high. Also means we wont get extended volume levels (0-63) instead of only 15 levels in default digital volume slider
2. No video recording DRC hack as in voodoo sound app (haven't tested, may be hidden but atleast no tweaking of DRC possible)
I prefer using voodoo sound app which is not yet detecting these kernels to be compatible with it to enjoy the above features.
Also I prefer the below kernel for this for CPU and GPU overclocking options in Stweaks app:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927852
Hope Supercurio adds support for these kernels atleast in his paid app.
so.......
I'm a n00b with all this, so can someone boil it down to a yes/no: Voodoo for Note 2? Sound quality on par with Galaxy 1?
I have Westones, not the usual earbuds, and the S1 is literally the best FLAC player I've ever owned. It's certainly a bit long in the tooth at this point, however, so I'm interested in upgrading but not willing to give up the Wolfson + Voodoo. I'm in the states, but I've got no problem buying an unlocked model from elsewhere if necessary.
Edit: Forgot to mention I'm tied to USCC (job pays for phone), not sure if that matters

This is a question which im dying to know the answer too lol.
Have anyone tested the audio on both (s3 note2)?
The s3 with the siyah kernel and its audio tweaks sounds so good, but I haven't test the sound on the note 2.
I googled and found that both phones have the same audio hardware but the note 2 doesn't the siyah kernel.

Redpill, Neak and Perseus kernels all have sTweaks or equivalent for audio. Your googling was lousy. Search and you will find. Takes 5 seconds.

So those kernels are based on the same audio tweaks that siyah kernel has, right? I know that those kernels have stweaks but do they have the same audio presets as siyah kernel on s3
AFAIK S3 has Voodoo support, Note 2 doesn't. It has something called Scoobydoo, which I have tried already but frankly I don't understand if it's any better, at all. Rather I use Mega Bass Beats, works great.
If what you mean is dac enhancement, actual improvement of the signal itself, not the software mods that compress and eq-abuse the hell out of the sound, then I don't think it can be done much better than what scoobydoo has done. I seriously doubt there will be very much difference between the two phones in terms of audio quality.

Unless they are amplified with the tweaks the roms come with.
To the OP: Ofc if you boost up the db you will notice a difference sound volume, but I don't think there is much difference actual quality at least I haven't noticed any. In order to boost that up you really need an nice audio filter. In my case I never listen to radio to notice a difference and the only music app I use that really makes a difference in sound quality is Poweramp, that at least to my ears

I'm using the RR Remix pitch black with the NEAK 1.6 kernel using Wolfson audio, and the sound quality (once set up) is simply amazing. It's actually better quality than my £300 MP3 player, so the wife has that now
I had a Galaxy S3 for almost a year until it got stolen and I now have a Note 2 . In regards to audio quality at max volume the Note 2 is definitely louder at stock and you can feel the vibrations when holding the phone. The only vibrations on the S3 were when you blocked the speaker with your finger. Perhaps it is exactly the same audio hardware but just the volume in the software is louder. Loving the Note 2

Same happen to my s3, thats why i was asking this question because i am getting a new phone. S3 or Note 2 but since they are the almost the same, i think i am getting the Note 2 that is slightly better but siyah kernel + eargasm EQ preset on s3 was so good ; but since its a port from voodoo both devices should sound similar.
