It is my understanding that some gen8 devices aren't waking up from sleep when they go to sleep in a dimmer screen state. Thanks to a diligent XDA user with a 101, I was able to fix this problem.
To fix this, download SuperDim 1.51dev2 from http://code.google.com/p/superdim/downloads/list
Then go to Menu | Options, and check "Fix no-wake-from-sleep". That's all: it should now work.
My testing indicates that low brightness levels aren't enough to switch the backlight from off to on. So what the SuperDim fix option does is that when the device awakes with a low brightness setting, it first sets 22% brightness, which is enough to activate the backlight, and only then sets the desired lower brightness level.
I reported both the bug and the fix to Archos.
It might be possible to make the fix work without root if there is enough demand.
I would very much like to have a fix without having to root my 101!
I installed and to exactly what u introduced but I still have that issue now. Im realy disappointed. Is there any other methods
yes i also tested it - but somehow i didnt see the feature while waking up - but when going to sleep - this somehow is weird and useless - might be the reason for not working for others
Sleep: press power - screen gets brighter -> get darker -> off
Wake up: press power -> wake up by luck
perhaps recontact the develoeper something might be messed up
(i didnt take the version u mentioned - but the latest maket version wich is newer)
So, let me get clearer on what's happening. You have SuperDim installed, and its "fix wake from sleep" option is activated. And you're still not having the device wake from sleep when the screen is dimmed. Right?
If you can install adb on your PC, or install an ssh daemon on your device and connect to the device via ssh from your PC, you can help me diagnose the problem.
Well I hoped my explanation was clear enough - it is what u said + the point that the function u explained in post 1 doesn't happen while waking up but instead when going to sleep...
Device is on (screen is dimmed, archos option is on) -> press power -> screen gets brighter -> screen gets darker -> off
Device is in sleep -> press power -> wake up by luck
Anyway I got ssh woring thought putty(win) and UD ssh daemon.
ADB is also installed on my pc but i nerver used it
EDIT:
hey - btw i asked u for the cycle funktion some time ago and noticed u implemented it now - and a lot of other things
Thanks for that - somehow i lost track of your app since i had exams
Anyway i just noticed i have the turn-on bug also when I don't use your app sometimes... (even when the screen is not dimmed at all) so there must be another problem also i suppose
Regarding the cycle funktion i noticed a "strange" behaviour:
"night 1" -> 3x cycle -> ends in "day 2" (thast right)
but
"night 1" -> 2x cycle -> "night 1" -> cycle -> ends in "day 2" also and not in "night 2" (so it seems u forgot to ask for the current state while cycling though the modes)
anyway I would be glad if u would make a cycle+ and a cycle-

Have you tried SuperDim, now known as RootDim, and its sleep of death fix option?

Has anyone else experienced this problem with their P3300?
Unpredictably, the screen on my P3300 will fail to come back on after I have shut the device off with the power button. I know the device is on because the hardware buttons light up when pressed, but the screen appears almost completely dark and won't come back on when tapped. The only way to get the screen back to normal function is to get to the backlight settings and adjust them. This seems to return the device to normal function...until it randomly happens again. I'm seeing this about two or three times a day.
At first, I thought I needed to soft reset - and this worked - I then just went to the backlight settings to modify them and got back normal function for a while. The strange thing was that after the screen issue and the soft reset, my backlight settings for battery power were on "brightest" - and they wern't there before the issue popped up.
Now I have a WA2 shortcut on my top bar that goes to backlight settings. I know approximately where it is on the screen, so when the issue pops up and the screen is pitch dark, I can tap in that general area and get to backlight settings. The screen is still dark, but I can just make out the backlight slider enough to adjust it from there and avoid the soft reset.
So, basically, it seems as though my backlight settings are randomly resetting themselves to the lowest setting every once in a while after power off. Anybody else with an Artemis seeing this? Seems a little similar to the first of the three questions in this thread, but not exactly the same:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=281763
Any help or empathy would be appreciated!
I've had that, too. I assume the program for the allocation of the soft keys has a bug. You had to HARD RESET, and dont change the soft keys any more.
I've read some more about this issue and it seems it is a WM5 bug that is seen across devices. I guess I can hope they will address it at some point in a future ROM release. Thanks for the suggestions anyway.

Sleep Mode
What you are describing sounds like sleep mode
" Quickly pressing the POWER button turns off the display temporarily and switches your device to sleep mode. Sleep mode suspends your device to a low power state while the display is off in order to save battery power "

(Taken from MDAC3 Manual)
Pressing the power button again should bring it out of Sleep Mode. If it is getting stuck then it is possibly a bug affecting the sleep mode.
Hi!
Any news on this issue? My phone is acting just like described in this thread (and no, this is not standby/sleep mode)

This only hapen to me after a soft reset. And the only way i found to "fix" the problem was after every soft reset going to Settings>Backlight move the brightness bar up and down. And after that it never blocks the light again until the next soft reset. Sometimes when connected to usb it blocks too but if you always go to the backlight, befor e the light goes off, and move the bar it wont block anymore...Its not a real solution but the only way i found...

Yeah, that is all I am doing too. Hopefully HTC is noticing this problem too and a future ROM release will alleviate the problem. Perhaps a Crossbow upgrade someday????
I have the same problem. I found out that it happens when PhoneAlarm switches my profile from work to home.
Solution!
Check this thread out:
http://www.pocketmax.net/smf/index.php?topic=3324.0
As stated above, looks like PhoneAlarm is the culprit. I use it and I would bet that everyone posting in this thread does too. In fact, Bruce from PocketMax has even listed the Artemis Backlight corruption issue as a fixed item in his latest release, v1.57 available here:
http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html
Once you download and install, make sure to go the the backlight % setting in each of your profiles and select "Leave Unchanged". This alleviates the problem. My Artemis no longer goes blank without backlight slider manipulation after a soft reset!!! One less thing to worry about!
I had the same problem ... I try your solution and make a feed back
I too have had this problem and have PA installed - I'll also apply the solution and report findings . . thanks for sharing.
Hi!
I installed the PA 1.57 upgrade, but it did not help... But it seems like the backlight settings on the Artemis device is not standard, so I uninstalled Spb GPSR monitor (who has a backlight setting option), and then the problem disappeared.
PK
Looks like any program you have installed with a backlight setting option needs to be adjusted not to change the backlight settings in order for things to work properly for the time being. I'm sure that software developers will adjust to this new device soon just as PA has. Thanks for the feedback!
hi,
i have PA 1.58 (build 100), and the reminders for missed calls not work properly. the orange led is blinking, but the vibration and the sound are
not played (i have set the alarm reminder to 1 x 5 min x endless)...
please, test and indicate to me if this function works on your artemis...
the reminders for sms works fine.
thank's

In other forums they have this 'problem' too, and all of these people had SPB Pocket Plus installed. My guess is that it is a backlight setting in that program. You can temporarily get the backlight back on by connecting the phone to the pc through ActiveSync, and change the settings accordingly.
Hard- or softresets shouldn't be necessary to solve this.
@phonealarm users,
you can fix the unserious backlight bug if you are using at least v.1.57 or higher and set all backlight settings (battery and pluged) in used profiles to the option < LEAVE UNCHANGED >

Ok! so i am not alone! a couple of times i did face this situation. the screen doesnt come up, but the device is on, and i am able to see a slight silhoute of the icons, very very light. and i have to do a softreset to get it back on.

Yep, that´s it! In every app offering different profiles (like PocketZenPhone, PA, etc.) Settings for Backlight (including Minutes to switch off) must be exactly the same in each profile! Maybe <Leave unchanged> will work, too!

Hey Guys,
We appreciate the posts about Phone Alarm, but if you just read this entire thread before posting you would have seen that this is old news and this issue was resolved in post #9!
Thanks anyway!

hi,
please, tell me if pa reminders for sms and missed calls work fine in your p3300.
i have installed spb pocket plus and pa and the reminders for pa not work now.
please, if this combination works for you, explaine your config settings.

I wanna make another post here cause in the last post this issue wasnt resolved and i wanna fresh thread here, please only post if you have the solution, thanks hope theres someOne who can get this issue resolved.
Do you use AutoKeylock ?
I had this problem when I started using 6.1 ROMs first.
In my case I had about 6 applications I always installed right off the bat after a new ROM flash. One of those was Maniac's AutoKeylock.
I timed the duration between answering a call and having the call go white one day, and it seemed to me to match precisely with the screen timeout settings I had in AutoKeylock.
I removed the application, and have never seen the problem happen again.
However, I do miss having AutoKeylock.
I realize that this could be totally coincidental, and thus I asked before whether others who had the problem also used AutoKeylock but never got a reply.
Perhaps you can reply as to whether you use it or not. And, if you do, whether removing the application resolves the issue for you.
If there is a correlation then we can alert Maniac to the issue, and he may be able to find a solution.

You know if the reason you miss autokeylock is for the ability to set a time for the screen to turn off and the keypad to lock, smarttoolkit does that, with no problems.

How often it happen?
With my phone running Kavanas I will get a white screen once after a reboot and then I press and button and it goes back to normal and wont do it again. I have gotten used to it.
For some reason I think it has to do with Tornado PowerControl, do you have that installed? I just cant figure it out exactly. Maybe we can find a solution.
We'll i believe this White screen has something to do with the backlight settings in power managment, i find if you leave screen on full and turn off the phone from turning off the screen, the white screen wont happen, this isnt so bad, cause if u want the screen to go off just hold down the disconnect phone button, not too bad cause when your not wanting to use the phone anymore the screen still goes off, also you can turn the backlight off in accessories which is the same as setting the screen to go off automatically in 5 seconds, white screen fixed moreless.
Same issue with Ricky's v24 and now with Rose 1.7
I also am experiencing this issue, but do not have installed neither Maniac's AutoKeylock nor Tornado PowerControl.
It happens sometimes during a call, sometimes not.
It happens when leaving the phone unlocked and timesout idle time. If hit the Home or back buttons, it shows the home screen again and next timeout does work fine.
I have beeing looking up and down for fixes but was unable to find one. Some say turning off "Run Lowlight" JOGGR setting, some say flash after a hard reset...
It seems that running lowlight (joggrinfo.exe -m -t) helps a bit. If the phone is fully bright and rests on the table, the screen goes white after timeout.
However, if run lowlight and let it alone, it turns off the screen normally.
Also when it goes white and hit back or home button, the screen goes mid-bright, and then turns off normally.
However, when unlocking, it goes full bright, and then the issue comes back.
In summary ...
Full Bright -> Times out to whitescreen.
Mid Bright -> Times out to lights off.
Unlock -> Goes full bright -> Times out to whitescreen.
White screen -> Hit Back/Home button goes mid-bright -> Times out to lights off.
It would be great if lowlight could be run when unlocking the device.
Does it work same way for you guys??
Regards.
This will stop White Screen from happening.
ok this is a way to avoid the white screen issue, (Click on Light Config) then open CeleTask and in CeleTask - Tools use Close Screen this will turn off your screen and allow the backlight from turning on when screen turns back on, also remember u need to set your power settings to (Backlight time out on battery 5 Seconds and Backlight on AC can be 1 minute which u never use) and Display time out Never..)
You can also use CeleTask to disable the screen when you make a call, just open CeleTesk when you hit call.
Topic should be changed as not a fix but work around "sortof":
Process of illimination:
My recomendation would be try a hard-reset, don't install any programs see if that fixes it now when installing programs don't bung them all on install 1 @ a time soft-reset give it while see if problem resumes, do this for all software then you may find the culprit?
This is not an issue faced by all so something has to be the culprit.
Bad Flash?
Software Install?
JOGGR?
Power Settings?
They are just examples.
I had this happen once but on WM6 and a hard-reset was what was needed and didn't pop up again........

These instructions have fixed my device... I got an Elf and I made it my primary phone, and now I´m experiencing new ROM´s in my S621. This problem happens in my device (the S621, of course), and I´m now using NRG remade by Ricky and Stylez, and this problem with the screen seems to be solved with this tip.
This problem does not happen when I use "Kavana remade by Ricky and Stylez" only with NRG and it´s Remake.
Regards
If this isnt helping try just disabling Timeout and set everything else ur way u want.
I have the setting checked to keep screen on while on AC, but it still auto dims to about 10% after 30 seconds or so. I want to stop it from doing this and just keep the screen at 90% all the time. Auto-brightness is already off, and that didn't change anything.
I'm trying to setup a tasker profile to turn the brightness to 90% during the day when in the car. Everything works fine, I can see the screen get brighter, BUT it still dims after 30 seconds and I can't see the display when it's bright out unless I touch the screen, then it comes back to full brightness again.
Help please?

Exactly.
I've temporarily resolved this by having tasker open car home, then opening pandora.
When car home is running, it won't dim the screen.
Now I have to figure out how to make it do this without car home open.

Did anyone ever find a solution?
Settings > Applications > Development > Stay Awake (Screen will never sleep while charging)
This is true but the screen still dims.
Still searching for an answer.
I had the same problem. After some searching I found this over on android forums and it's working like a champ for me. Hope this helps! (I don't think there's any system setting that will change this, unfortunately)
Download the app "Setting Profiles Lite". Lite is free and only lets you create 1 rule at a time, but multiple profiles (Actions you want it to do when the rule is happening)
1. Create a profile that simply changes the screen time out to "Screen Never Times out" Save it as whatever name you want.
2. Create a rule. Under conditions add a condition for Battery that when "plugged into any charger", hit OK. Now add an action to Activate Profile, and choose the profile you made above.
Bam! When plugged into the charger, the screen timeout goes to never, and the screen stays bright, unplug it and time out goes back to whatever you had it set at!
I have been using this for about 10 min now so I'm a rookie but it seems to be working! Make sure if you screw around in it that you don't accidentally disable the rule (I did that because I tried to make another and the Lite won't let you make 2 rules, and it disabled the first one. Just had to long press to enable it again)

THANK YOU!
From time to time I've searched for a solution to this annoying problem, but came up dry. For months I've been using the built-in Power Control widget to manually toggle between Auto-bright when on battery, and Full-bright when on the charger, but NEVER AGAIN
I mean, if your phone's on the charger, why wouldn't you want to take advantage of the plentiful juice pouring out of the charger to power the screen? (Maybe, and I don't know if this is true, but maybe the battery will charge slightly slower with the display sucking a bit more of the available 0.5 max amps over USB.)
IMO, this problem is really worthy of being solved by a standalone app, apart from the more general Settings Profile Lite (but now that it's solved... I don't feel the urge to code it anymore.)
ChargeBright app
FWIW, I did finally end up writing my own app to solve this problem. Check out the ChargeBright app @ market.android.com if interested.
Settings Profile Lite was overkill since I only needed to tweak one setting: display brightness when charging. ChargeBright saves resources and is better tailored to the specific task in any case.

2 years later and this still works like a charm. THANKS.
This problem is with the screen and phone not going to sleep mode after an event that brings it out of sleep.
After i lock the screen manually by pressing the button on the top, the phone would wake up briefly due to an event like a calendar reminder, text, phone etc.
So after certain duration of inactivity, it should go back into the sleep mode automatically. Right, it used to, but not anymore. It just stopped. I have checked the Advanced settings under the Battery option but no good.
Although after say 30 seconds (as per my setting) the screen fades to low light to conserve battery, but remains active.
As a result i have inadvertently pocket dialed quite a many and it's beginning to be a privacy concern and a pain in the butt for me and others. Not to mention the charges from the international number my phone self-dialed.
I'm using a TP-2 Rhodium OS 6.1.
As if the battery didn't suck enough, I needed this !!!
Any tips would be appreciated.
If the phone "used to" go to sleep but doesn't anymore, it sounds like a recently installed program or process is running in the background forcing it to stay on.
Does the phone refuse to go to sleep only after being woken up by an event?
...or does it not go to sleep on its own at all anymore?
Isn't pressing that button on the top just closing the screen?, unless you set it as the lock as well
I should have mentioned - the phone will go back to sleep mode if I manually operate the button on the top. Just that it won't go to sleep on its own anymore.
You may be right user602, about the recently installed apps, but is there any way to narrow down on the culprit instead of uninstalling all of them?

Go back and check the power settings again; make sure they are set to have the screen turn off. Change the settings to some other value and see if that helps. Maybe something just messed around with your registry entries.
If not, you will need to uninstall those programs, in reverse order, until the device works.
I'd start by changing the power settings as suggested by stevedebi above.
If that doesn't help, and you want to avoid uninstalling a bunch of stuff, you can look at what's running using Task Manager:
-Begin by stopping running programs one at a time, and seeing if the device will sleep.
-If that doesn't help, stop processes one at a time, and again see if the device will sleep (watch out for critical system processes, though).
...or if you're lucky, you may find something in the \windows\startup folder, such as a program you were not aware is starting on boot.
Of course, this all ends with uninstalling programs one at a time if none of the above suggestions work.

------- "I'd start by changing the power settings as suggested by stevedebi above."
I can swear i tried this before and it didn't work. Changed it one last time before doing anything else,... and voila !!!
Thanks 602 & stevedebi
That was easy!
I'm glad the simplest solution worked for you.
...That's usually not my luck!

Hi,
I have a Samsung GT-I8160P and I like to use NFC so I flashed Rox's newest image (cm-10.2-20140104-UNOFFICIAL-codinap.zip). Everything works like a charm the only issue is I can't turn off NFC when I don't need it. This results in an power consumption of 40% of the whole battery....
I can't respond in the Rox's development thread because I'm a newbie...(10post limit) - hope this is the right place.
Thanks,
Chris

Hi there, I've got the same model 8160P. I installed the same version of CM yesterday, and I got the same bug, but not all the time. I don't really care cause I never use NFC.
For example, I just checked now and it's off. But when it's on (I don't know why). If I uncheck the option and go back in the menu, it's on again. Then it turns itself off later, don't know how long after I checked.
edit : I also have some other minors bugs but I can't post in dev section since I'm a newbie too
What other bugs do you have?
I flashed it over some older cm-10.2 mod from TeamCanjica and haven't found anything annoying, yet.
#1 I prefer the have the backlight of my menu and back buttons always off. So I've disable it in the settings.
But every time I got a notification when my phone's asleep, it turns itself on and it stays so even after reading the notification. The only way is to go back in the settings, enable the backlight and disable it again... until the next notification.
edit : I just saw there was a zip file to switch the backlight buttons to "always off", but I would prefer to use these as a notification LED which can turn itself off after reading the notification but it doesn't.
#2 I can't open the Camera from the notification bar. The icon change its color but the app doesn't open itself.
edit 3 : In fact the icon turns itself into the camera but it's tiny
#3 When I take a photo from the sms app, it appears directly in the message I'm writing but there's a rotation of 90°
#4 an other very little one : when you want to open the wifi settings (for example) from the notification bar, you press and hold on the icon and it opens the wifi settings, but if you want to open the battery section, you have to press and hold... and release your finger from the screen in order to access that section; Yeah I know, this is a very minor bug
#5 There's an application called "Galaxy Ace 2 settings" in the section USB > Charger Control there's a confusion in the units. It says mAh (milliAmpere*hour, the star is important) which correspond to a charge and it should be mA (milliAmpere) which correspond to the intensity of a current
#6 You can define the min/max CPU frequency in the performance settings among 200, 400 & 800MHz but it doesn't keep the setting if you close the performance section, eventhough it seems to work correctly (at 200MHz max the phone is very slow)
maybe it depends of the kernel... I haven't really search for that bug which is minor for me
edit 2 : I've seen that only the max CPU freq. could be changed, not the min freq.
