Assigned keys on physical keyboard? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Is there a way to assign apps and actions to the three keys on the physical keyboard? After rooting and cm7 rom, lost the ability to assign actions to them.

[Q] Rearranging softkeys

Is this possible? There would be nothing better than to arrange the keys the way HTC has them as that's what I'm used to.

Yeah I completely agree, I'm about to upgrade to the Nexus and I want to be able to add the "Search" key (which I know is possible) and then rearrange the order of the keys.

Key mapping files

I got my vision a little over a year ago and the only problem I have is my delete button on the physical keyboard stopped working. I need a way to use one of the open keys as the delete key. To reassign it somehow. If anyone could tell me the simplest way to do this I would be eternally grateful.... I am rooted and have root explorer if needed.

Check this. Basicaly the files I mention there are the keymaps. Ignore the one that contains the "-ell." part. That's for greek keyboards.
I searched that thread but didn't see what I needed. More precisely I just need to move the delete key to another key on the physical keyboard.

Disabling the hardware menu and back button.

Is it possible to disable the menu and back button and install software key buttons like the nexus?

I just turned off the lights so I can't see them. And with AOKP or paranoid android they have the option for soft keys. Its nice because you can add a search key. I really missed that.

Yeah I've had the evo, the evo 3d and the epic 4g touch... They have always had the search key, was pissed that all the new phones have gone away from it

If you edit the key layout after applying the on-screen 'buttons', you should be able to disable them.
I'm running the LIH leak with the navigation buttons.

Sense keyboard or other keyboard with arrow keys?

Is there a port of the Sense keyboard or is there another keyboard with arrow keys that aren't buried behind 3 layers of alt key switches? A lot of people think the arrow keys are a huge waste of screen but I frequently edit long posts, and it's maddening trying to position the cursor somewhere exactly before or after some specific letter by jabbing your finger and hoping it does't misinterpret what you wanted as highlighting, zooming, cut or paste or delete, etc...

Yeah, SwiftKey has a toggle for arrow keys in its settings. They take up a little extra real estate, but I like them

I've honestly never seen arrow keys in Android... lol
Except for when I had the epic 4g and that was a physical keyboard.
I guess you learn new things everyday

I think legacy features still come in handy now and then. If you don't have the finger precision of a child-laborer, text editing can be a hassle without those arrow keys

Yeah true..
Well at least the s pen adds a bit more precision.
But I rarely find myself actually using it
So are the arrow keys specific to htc legacy devices?
Maybe that's why I've never seen them... I've never owned anything htc
I've played with some htc devices...but when I did they didn't have sense for very long for me to see them
No, HTC just happened to include the arrows as a feature of the Sense keyboard. SwiftKey includes it as a theme option.

Thumb keyboard 4 has arrow keys that are resizeable. Hell the whole keyboard is customizable from the size to layout and theme, I just wish it had an option for the 5th row of numbers
I like to break stuff!
touchpal keyboard has an option to show them too
a.i. keyboard has both the number row and arrows

I use Kii and it had asked add the for bottom keys as well add the top number row. It also allows you to customize the background.

Remap Capacitive buttons

hello everyone,
Like a HTC One M7 capacitive buttons design, is there a hidden trick or app that can remap/change the Home button to Menu button?
Thanks

In the stock unrooted rom? No.
But just about all custom roms have the ability to do this. (At least AOSP roms anyway. I don't have much experience with TouchWiz custom roms)
