From iphone 4 To Epic 4G Touch - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So far I love this phone. I'm just missing one thing the iPhone has that this one doesn't.
And that is RAGE! RAGE the game that is. Is it ever coming to the android????
And meantime is there something even close to it for android? I like the simplicity of aim shoot and get out the way from stones....
I don't like nova 2 its hard to control for me. Any suggestions of a nice aim n shoot kind if game?
Also, on the back of my sprint sprint phone it says in big letters "galaxy S II" so why on earth are we calling this phone EPIC 4G TOUCH? should be SPRINT GS2, PIRIOD!
Thanks.

Call it what you want homie, pple know what you mean. Call it all that and a bag of tricks and I know what you're talkin about.

The reason it is called galaxy s 2 is because samsung wants name recognition across all of the carriers. They have forced them all to place that name before whatever name they want to give it.
As far as your game have you tried to google rage for android.
Sent from my Epic on Midnight or my Galaxy Tab rooted (feels naked without a ROM)

Google rage comic maker? Are you serious??? Do you actually know which game I'm talking about? I doubt it but thanks for at least replying.

Carmack has expressed interest in Android and more than hinted at working on it, with comments about being how he's going to regret using iPhone-centric tags in the RAGE code when he ports to Android. That said, he's also since stated that the wide range of available hardware for Android concerns him and may prevent him from considering it too seriously. So we're in a waiting game on RAGE.

Evo 3D? Samsung Galaxy S II? Motorola Photon 4G?

Has the Photon 4g persuaded your decision when it comes down to what your upgrading to??? Or are you still intent on the Evo 3D or the Galaxy S II???
I'm still waiting to see if Sprint is going to sell the Galaxy S II. The Photon has my interest pending if the bootloader will be locked or not. The Samsung Within is on the top of my wish list, however...
The bootloader has been confirmed not to be locked by Motorola......
Yes, I just read that and confirmed Gorilla Glass, too. It has moved into second place pending a Galaxy S II announcement.
They stated later that the Photon would have a locked bootloader. Here is a link to it:
http://phandroid.com/2011/06/10/des...motorola-photon-4g-bootloader-will-be-locked/
The GSII for sprint is going to be called the Within. We know it's coming, we just aren't sure when :\. I personally would go for the Evo 3D because it is unlocked and will have great dev support. The Within will most likely also have great dev support because it is a great phone and because Samsung recently sent a few GSII to the guys that make cyanogenmod. Both phones have great specs and I am excited that they are going to be on Sprint.
I want to like the photon, but due to the fact that it is locked and because it is running the Motorola UI (apparently not called motoblur anymore) I won't even be looking at it. The specs are fantastic, but those two factors just make me cringe at the thought of buying it.
I had a Motorola phone back in the day even before smart phones were around, and it hit the brick hard on me, so I really don't want a phone from them. I personally will most likely go for the Galaxy S II, because I personally love my Samsung LED TV, I had a non Samsung smart phone, and it did me right [the AT&T Eternity] and still works, also is has phenomenal specs. I personally could care less about the '3D' aspect to the Evo 3D.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that most of the people here are not buying the phone because it is 3D. That's just something extra that we didn't ask for. People are buying it because it's a phone from a great company with great specs on a great carrier. Not saying that Samsung isn't great, we have a 40" from them that looks fantastic, but some people just prefer HTC.

That's possibly true, and the extra power to run the 3D would probably eat up some of the battery. I have a 32" Samsung LED tv...beautiful in my room at school. And I agree there probably is some bias out there, but I resolved a long time ago, to not get stubborn and be a die fanboy to one side just cuz I like them. I love boy Samsung and HTC, but I feel the GS II has the edge in this competition. Just my 4 cents.
The Atrix was just released here in Australia with one of our local carriers on Tuesday 06/07/2011. So not happy that a few days later, the Photon have been announced. Larger screen, 8mp camera etc etc.
This 2 yr plan is really going to drag along so slowly now.

Its a clearance sale on my opinion today, so keep the change for yourself.
But thank you.
As of right now, the Photon has my interest. Being able to use it globally is a plus for me. But with that said, if it becomes impossible to root then I may not consider it much. I'm not liking the EVO3D for the sole fact that its a 3D phone. Yes, I know its optional but I'm not keen on it. The GSII would be a win if it does come with a keyboard. To early to say what I would get though.
Well I've already got my EVO 3D locked in for release date. I'm not really a fan of the Photon, as I won't need it globally. I love my EVO, and if the 3D is the same build quality (or better), I will be loving my new phone.
I'm not a fan of hardware keyboards, as I feel like they just add extra bulk, so for me at least, the EVO 3D offers exactly what I want.
Of course, everyone will have their own preferences, and hopefully everyone will do their homework and decide what works best for them (and don't bash any of the other ones just because you like one over the other lol)
Also, the 3D has better power management than (some) other processors (like the Tegra 2). The cores can be clocked individually based on the need of the device or app, so it save power when it isn't needed. I wonder how long it will take to get a SetCPU like app that can control each core individually.
The MSM8x60 incorporates an asynchronous dual-core SMP micro-architecture. Unlike synchronous dual-core SMP designs
where both cores must run at the same frequency and voltage when operational, the dual-core Scorpion asynchronous power
design provides independent clocking and voltage per core, allowing each to work independently. This highly efficient design
provides substantial power savings over traditional SMP technology by intelligently adjusting performance to suit the needs of
the application.

ona side note is anyone here just going to hold onto their evo and wait for quad cores???
sorry i really like my evo, but if the photon was unlocked and unencrypted id go for it.... right now sgs2 and evo 3d too much alike... htc seems to have beter build quality.... the samsung 4g ... cant remember what it was called for sprint felt reallllllyyyyy cheap... but the screen was awesome

"Epic" was the name... Kind of funny that it was an "epic" fail. That phone felt like a cheap, plastic, hunk of junk.
I used my upgrade on an echo.
Why does everyone think HTC is such a great company? I've owned nearly every single HTC phone Sprint has ever offered, and in stock form they typically get terrible battery life, and have pretty bad build quality. I went through 6 HTC Touch/Vogues before I got one with a decent screen... Went through 4 or 5 Touch Pros, (and even a Touch Diamond,) before returning them all for overheating issues and terrrrrible battery life... Also had lots of problems with the capacitive buttons peeling off and terrible light leakage.
I had to go through several Evo 4Gs as well... and if you read the forums, there are all sorts of quirky things depending on what screen you got, what hardware version, etc... I don't see how people can be so damn pleased about that? Every new HTC phone is the same way... initially people are foaming at the mouth and forget all the problems in the past, and can only think of one thing--root. I don't get it, unless you are that desparate for free tethering. The custom ROMs on the 4G were far buggier than the stock one...
It seems like people only want HTC phones because the devs fix all the amazingly terrible problems that the phones comes with... My friends and family with Samsung and Motorola smartphones tell me all the time how reliable and rock-solid (physically) their phones are. If the argument for HTC is AOSP... I don't get that either... typically you lose out on many benefits custom to that hardware, (like 720p on Evo 4G,) and general reliability... Why not just remove all the wigets? That's what I did on my Evo 3D... I didn't run a single HTC widget. Didn't even sync fb for HTC, because it's such a battery hog.
To me, this whole "unlocked bootloader or DIE" mentality is just a bandwagon that people can jump on and feel like they belong. I would have stayed with my Evo 3D if it didn't send so many calls to voicemail, and had a half-way decent speaker. Things that I'm hoping the Photon can offer.

Dinc2 vs iPhone 4

Okay guys I know many xda'ers don't hold apple in high regard but my girlfriend is looking to upgrade her blackberry soon. I would just like some opinions of the dinc2 and if anyone has used an ip4 as well and how do they compare? Hows the camera and video capture on dinc2? Also most likely I will be rooting her phone if she gets the dinc2 because she loves miui and wondering how easy it is to root it, Ive read the alpharev thread and I think I have the gist of it. Thanks any thoughts and opinions would be awesome.

I have chick friends that love the inc2, and I have chick friends that love the iphone4, depends on what she or U lol plan to do to it, root, jailbreak, ect..or nothing. if she wants basic go apple. if you want great community support go android.
Its not like android would be particularly difficult to get the hang of, hell my grandpa uses a Droid X. The iPhone isn't going to do anything the inc 2 can't, at this point I think people buy apple due to the perceived status.
And rooting is very simple, its not "one-click" easy, but if you're computer literate its easy. Literally takes a couple minutes once you're ready to go.
I do like the design of apple products but the company and its beloved followers I can't stand. In the end it is up to her but she weighs a lot on my opinion and told her I would ask the fine people at xda as well lol! Also I am cashing out 100 dollars to help pay for it too, and since I got a nexus, I'm hoping she pics the dinc2 .

Put it this way. you can get an iPhone and be stuck with iOS and whatever memory size you happen to choose forever (not to mention feel bitter once the next iPhone comes out).
Or you can get the more recent, more technically advanced DInc2, and be able interchange SD cards and Batteries, and switch HTC Sense, AOSP, or MIUI (which is basically iOS, except better because you can use widgets and everything else that makes Android awesome). In my opinion, if you fall prey to the flashy logos, sleek design and massive marketing and ignore the obvious advantages of the HTC android phones, then you deserve to be pigeon-holed in with the mouth-breathers that stand outside the Apple Store all night waiting for the iPad 3 to come out so it can (not) run flash up to 3X faster!
The only problem is I wouldn't get too excited about rooting the Inc2 off the jump because if you get one now it's likely to come with Gingerbread (unless one has been sitting on a shelf for a bit). If you get one, you better get it quick. Froyo had the only known root method and no telling how long it'll take to crack Gingerbread
That said, even in the situation that I didn't root, I have the Incredible 2 and I'd take it over the iPhone easily. HTC sense is really not a bad UI at all, slower than AOSP of course but of all the manufacturer skins on top of Android, Sense UI is by far the most useful.
The biggest problem with the iPhone 4 (to me) is that it doesn't really multitask and the hardware is starting to get a bit dated. The iPhone 4 isn't "slow" by any means, but most modern Android phones will run circles around it. The Dinc2 has good battery life too, I have to absolutely abuse mine for it not to last a whole day easily
If you do happen to get one with Froyo, AlpharevX is as painless as it gets. S-off and it installs clockworkmod recovery for you if you elect to.
Thanks guys, told her what you guys said and she is like 100 % sure she wants the dinc2 Now I'm excited, I get to play with 2 phones, hopefully she'll get one with froyo. If not I can always install adw or go luancher if she doesn't like sense.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
If she's coming from Blackberry and uses a ton of photo/video out of the phone the iphone may be better for you.
I switched my wife over from an Inc 1 to the iPhone and she's in love with it. The camera is unrivaled to be brutally honest, it smokes any android phones camera and i'd love for my inc2 to have the same quality.
Basically she's not a tech person, she needed easy, something that took good pictures, and battery. The inc2 has great battery but still nowhere near the IP4.
I've owned both, and I would never personally go back to an iPhone, but for my wife it was perfect for her, and she would never give hers up.

If you get one with Gingerbread on it, you can still S-OFF using the clip method.
If you're getting it new from Verizon I can't think of why it wouldn't be on froyo, unless HTC is already shipping out new units with gingerbread. Just don't take the OTA if you want root.
yeah she told me that she "didn't want to fall to the hype of iphone" lol. She just wants a bigger screen, and she always carries around a point and shoot where ever she goes so camera i'snt really that big of a deal. Also the Dinc2 is 50 dollars less than the iphone at bestbuy. All in all she goes one week to make up her mind lol!
well, the way I see it is that an iphone 4 is pretty much an ipod touch that you can make calls with. the other advantage, which is the main one i'd say, is that if you have a nice sound system in your car and the deck has an AUX in then absolutely nothing can compare with the output quality of an ipod touch/iphone.
ive tried mp3 players from creative, sansa(even with rockbox), sony, etc... even tried different phones(mytouch 3g, htc hd2, samsung galaxy s, and my current incredible 2). no matter how you adjust the eq's or what apps you use(even poweramp), they still do not compare to apple.
but, if you arent planning on doing that in your car then theres no point in getting an iphone4(especially now that android has Plants vs Zombies).
Best advice when choosing a device:
Go to a store with active devices and play with them. Spend some time with them. If you know people with the devices in mind, ask them if you can play with them and get to know them. Make the choice based on your experience, not the advice of others, because it all comes down to personal preference.
As much as I am a big fan of Android and Android devices, and despite the fact that I will never choose an iOS device, I would recommend a person try it before rejecting it.
My sister tried going from a blackberry to an Android device and found one very big legitimate problem with it. She's on Sprint and doesn't have the iPhone as a choice so she went back to blackberry. She liked Android, but that one glaring flaw was enough to push her away from it (at least for now). Of course, the same flaw exists on the iPhone so she's doomed to be stuck on blackberry (yeah, I hate blackberry).
If you want to know the flaw: She can make calls and do certain tasks without looking at her device. With Android, she was unable to do this. I'm betting with something like a Droid Pro this wouldn't be an issue, and the voice command features Android has acquired more recently would help a little, but it's not where she could get as proficient at it as she is with her blackberry.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of certain tasks? Is it a difference between having physical buttons versus softkeys?
EDIT: NVM.. I think I figured out what you might be referring to. That's an issue I have as well, but voice is a big help in it (even if not 100%).

Something like that. It's mostly a problem with her particular usage. She gets tactile feedback for what she is trying to do and can generally get things done without looking at her device. She's a pretty big multitasker so this is important to her. Unfortunately, this also helps her use her device in the car (I wish she wouldn't TBH).

Tactile feel = knowing keyboard layout. I was real good at punching out emails on my 9700 without looking at it for most of the email. Same with the car use, which I definitely no longer do (despite the fact that it is now also illegal here).

Android Voice Control?

As a proud owner of this kick ass phone (No LOS Issue At All) I keep seeing lot's of posts on-line about siri and such Apple makes an iDeal about something that I feel that is already a part of the Android infrastructure. From what I can tell i am able to practically do everything that Apple makes a big deal about as being cutting edge. This maybe the case in their little iWorld but I just don't see the big deal!
Tell me about it my sister is so proud of her voice commands on her 4s. We have had that for some time now.

the retina is actually an lg display the only things samsung makes for apple now is the chip and memory if im not mistaken

Coming from a Droid Incredible

I am coming to Sprint (and locked into the network) from a Verizon Droid Incredible. I loved the phone and I am sad to see it go, but Verizon doesn't do well in my new location. Sprint is the best and I am torn. The area also does not have 4g.
My entire family has gone with the 4s but I am on the fence. I love the openness of Android. I have an old Ipod touch 2g that has been used just for music since I got the Dinc.
Is this the phone to get or should I just get an Iphone?

E4GT is an amazing phone period even with it being a bit older then the 4S. Honestly if you do love Android (as you have one already) You will love the E4GT
Epic Touch for the win! The screen size is the best, compared to the tiny screensize of the iPhone. You'll get more out of this device than the iPhone.

I had this phone and decided I wanted to try the 4s. The 4s was a great phone but in the end I missed Android so much and I really missed the screen size of the Epic Touch so I went back to the Epic Touch. If you really love Android and your on Sprint the Epic Touch is hands down the best phone Sprint has to offer at the moment.

Actually While I do love my android phones I don't have an issue telling someone they will like the iPhone more for what they are going to use it for. It's pretty simple if you like another phone use it if not stick with what you know. As it is there is a 14 day "period" of time he can use/try the iPhone 4S and if he does not like it return it and get the E4GT. Either way it's really up to him.

Samsung will not even talk about the SG3 period all anyone knows is "summer" and that's about it. And honestly that's not even saying much I will say this however even though the GS3 will have better specs then the GS2 the GS2 regardless is still a beast of a phone. Out of the box it stands against pretty much every single phone released right now including the GNexus. Like I've said in another post you do have a 14 day window you can test a phone out. Give both the iPhone and the GS2 a go and see which one YOU like more.

I find nothing appealing about the iPhone at all. My GF has a 4s, and I honestly cannot stand it. There's no way I could ever go from *any* android phone to an iPhone. Just looking at the iPhone 4s screen after using my E4GT makes it look like a pile of barf. Yeah, it has really high pixel density, but who cares when the screen is so small that your thumb can cover 6 buttons at once.

Anyone else have an iPhone and E4GT?

I'm just curious- I just sold my E4GT for an iPhone 4S- as to what your opinions are! This will be my first iPhone, I've only had android for smartphones (well Win6.1 for a few months). (although the E4GT is still my favorite phone ever).
I know this sounds like a "I'm leaving" thread, but it isn't meant to be. Just wondering what people may like about the iPhone vs. this phone, and what they hate! For me, I'm looking forward to the battery life, and the retina display, but will miss google nav, gtalk, gmail app, the notifications, etc.
If there's anyone who has both these phones, and could give some insight, please chime in.
There's a good chance I'll be back, since I change out phones every 6 months (and I got an iPhone because I've never used that OS before, so I'm curious), but I may try Win7 mobile before coming back to android as well.
On a side note, if everyone is really just hating on this thread, and I was an idiot for creating it and causing drama, I will just close it. Sorry all, was just really curious, not trying to create anything!!
My girlfriend has the iPhone, and she loves it. You'll instantly find that without jailbreak, you really can't customize the phone. For 80% of folks that's fine, very similar to the WinPhone7 experience, but you wouldn't be on XDA if you want to keep your phone stock
I will say that the application quality is better on iOS devices, seems like developers put a little more polish into them.
I'm currently in the same dilemma... Mainly because of apps. A lot of apps on iOS either take too long, or don't get released on Android at all. -Yes we have probably almost the same amount of apps on Android as on iOS, but not quality apps. Besides, for me as a startup app developer, iOS is better for business I was waiting for the SGS III, but was disappointed. Would have gotten the One X, if sprint imo wouldn't have uglyfied it. So now I'm waiting for the new iPhone, and hopefully it won't be an iPhone 4SS. Then I might consider switching too.
PS. see, not hate we can communicate in a mature manner
I think whosdaman (Korey) just came back to the E4GT from an iPhone and he has also had the OG Epic I am sure you can get some feedback from him all around.
I havent had the chance to use one but I put it to most people like this. If you've bought into one system why switch? If you really haven't and you like the other then don't let any stop you from having it your way.

I will definitely be jailbreaking the iPhone, I need my wifi-tether haha! Yea I'm excited for the applications, there are so much more on there. What's nice is that EA and Gameloft have a lot of sales, so all the games can be had for $0.99, if you wait for the right time (although still can't beat the market's $0.10 appsale).

Their battery is about the same for me but the iPhone 4s has battery on sleep mode/ standby but the E4GT has better battery while in use but by the end of the day their battery drainage is about the same. Camera seems better on the E4GT maybe it's just the screen. Seriously though it's whatever floats your boat. You like massive apps, buying accessories and just want a simple phone then stick to the iPhone, for everything else E4GT is better in my opinion I hate the size of the iPhone screen and it gets boring after 2 days.

Honestly, I love the learning process of new phones, which is why I switch so often. I still have not had a Motorola or Apple smartphone ever, so those were next on my list. I went from the Samsung Instinct to HTC Diamond to HTC Hero, to Epic 4G to E4GT, and now iPhone 4S.
I have put a lot of effort into android, but I can always come back. Plus I will admit, that I will probably spend less time on forums in general (still will be on XDA a bit) since you can't customize the iPhone as much. That was another key aspect of getting a phone like the iPhone....I will have more time to study for the GMATs instead of being drawn to all these amazing devs and their work!
I don't have an iPhone but I do have an ipad 3 and it was excruciatingly painful not having jb
And I did start slight theming for it (I just spent around 3 hours)
But **** is so complicated in theming and the file system is stupidly complicated
Who said that iPhones are simple

I freaking hated jailbreaking the iPhone(on the 3gs days), everything stops working like Cydia when a new update/OS is available then you have to jailbreak all over again and spend so much time bringing everything back, it's one of the few updates I dont ever look forward to because of the hassle. My girl has my iPhone 4s now it had nothing to offer me that my E4GT couldn't do

My wife and I both used to have original Evo's and about 6 months ago I went to the e4gt, and she went with the iPhone 4s. We frequently use each others phones and we both have likes and dislikes. Here are some of our big complaints:
Most of these are the obvious *****es that everyone has...
No 4G
Small screen
No back button
No external storage
Your clueless friends act like you finally decided to get a smartphone.
Positives are:
Camera is much better
High quality look and feel. (The brushed aluminum is a nice touch)
Siri is really cool. (I have tried the leaked S voice app, and I don't think we will see anything that comes close to Siri in the next couple of years)
The iOS is very polished. The cliche is true, "it just works"...
Manufacturers of other products (home or mobile audio mainly) gear everything towards iPhone.
I personally wouldn't go to an iPhone, but I like tinkering and customizing. My wife just wants stability, excellent camera, and good battery life. I definitely see the attraction of both devices. They both have their positives and negatives, it just comes down to preference. Have fun!

Yep when you try and jailbreak, that's when you realize it's not as straightforward as you'd like.
I am waiting for the new iPhone as well, as long as it has a larger screen, LTE, and maybe starting at 32gb (I wish!)
Yeah I have both and iPhone is for people who don't do a lot with their phone. Your paying sprint 10 dollars extra and you get slow 3g. And the screen is so small.
But it is a great phone. Maybe if it were bigger and had lte maybe but sprint 3g is horrible. If your on wifi its OK.
Pure ICS only
You will curse the screen for being so tiny on a daily basis.

It was really straight forward with the ipad 3
It was actually just one click not a zillion clicks like the one click roots from here (no offense to anyone intended)

My sister has an iPhone and I just jailbroke it for her yesterday. It's amazing how you can customize it with Jailbreaking... I made her phone look like the SII haha. But I still prefer Android because you can customize more even compared to jailbroken iPhones, and jailbreaking isn't completely stable. I'd say that custom ROMs on our phone are in general (not like nightly builds, but regular ROMs) are more stable than jailbroken features on iPhones. I personally don't like the shape of the iPhone or the small screen. Siri also isn't anything special IMO because no one ever ends up using it... just something to brag with. Like I seriously haven't met anyone who used Siri on a daily basis for functionality. To be honest, it's faster looking at a weather widget or opening a weather app than telling Siri to get the weather anyways.

How is it a zillion clicks lol. The only one click root for the E4GT I have seen once the app is running, its one click. The auto rooter was never advertised as a one click if thats what you mean. Maybe something else back in the EG30 days but i cam just before EK02 went ota.
I thought about getting an iphone but several things turned me off about it. First the hardware feels dated and screen seems small compared to this phone. Second in order to do anything with the files on the phone you have to use a software interface of some sort. For example you cant just plug into any pc, xfer files then unplug, you need itunes. Finally it just feels like a dumbed down content delivery device to me. Android feels and functions like a computer and I like that. I do understand how the simplicity of iphone would appeal to many but its just not for me. I also like being a bit different and popping down my S2 on the table with all my friends iphones at the restaurant or bar.

My job provided me with an iPhone and I use the E4GT personally.
The iPhone "just works"...but thats it...Its a no thrills phone that just works.
I personally love my E4GT but it takes much tweaking to make it yours.
I will admit. SIRI is awesome but i feel like its just a gimmick for the "Lazy" person who doesn't want to take the few extra steps to do what SIRI does for you.
It is a learning curve but in the end, it really is up to the person and their preference.
I had both, sold the iPhone. I will never own another apple device. The best thing about android is that its open source. That is how things should be. The iPhone was too small, not customizable, and the majority of the apps are paid apps. Also, downloads took FOREVER! I also tried a Galaxy Nexus and sold it this morning. Im sticking with the E4GT until something freaking spectacular pops up. My main things about the E4GT that keep me here: Processor is fast, screen looks fantastic, camera is badass, and the roms are plentiful.
I owned iPhones for years, the biggest deal breaker by far is the tiny screen size. Buy even if it was a larger screen I would never ever be able to go back.
I do see how it is better for average users who just want something that is easy and works out of the box
