back when I had alltel I had a ppc 6800 and when the touch pro came out (maybe a month or so after I don't remember how long) I read something on ppcgeeks about someone taking their mogul in on the sprint network and claiming it didn't work and he got a touch pro as a replacement.
I tried this and the salesperson said they could either claim warranty and send me a free 6800 or I could tell the insurance company I broke the screen and i would get a brand new touch pro for $50 in the store since they didn't carry the 6800 anymore
anyone have any luck trying this on verizon to get a touch pro 2? I kind of want one but don't want to sign a new contract as I'm going to At&t sometime soon, and the tp2 would sell alot faster and for more money on ebay/craigslist/etc.
Yeah I tried this like 6 months ago and somehow assurion got a new shipment of NEW in box 6800s for verizon. I was trying to get the touch pro at the time. Why dont you just switch to att and get the phone at a discount with them. Thats what I was gonna do, I was actually considering the iphone at the time, until verizon woke the freak up and stopped crippling the phones and came out with the TP2. Best phone I have ever owned.
whoops, I guess I forgot to mention that my alltel/verizon contract doesn't end until middle december or something, I'm hoping by the time I switch Att might have the hd2.
and thinking about how fast the touch pro 2 came out with my luck I'd upgrade at the discount price and then a new one would come out haha.
If I get an Evo with a new account then have Sprint de-activate the EVO and activate an old HTC Hero I have, will they be able to change my plan to a non Evo plan so I dont have to keep paying the extra $10 ????
Why I ask?
A friend of mine is getting an EVO for him and a Hero for his wife. Im thinking of asking him to get 2 EVO's and will trade my Hero and $200 for the EVO. But I need to know if he's going to be able to remove the extra $10(4G) from his bill.

The $10 follows the Evo. Whichever account it is active on will pay the unlimited 4g+3g premium.
Yea this should work because when i bought my Evo I just made a temporary sprint account with a hero to test out sprint and android for 11 days, so when the Evo came out, I wanted to keep my ported number from AT&T. This is why I couldn't just cancel my sprint account I had already made, so I had 2 phones for about 3 days. I swapped the Evo's number (some new phone # I already forgot) with the Hero, and they moved the $10 charge to my evo account. Then I cancelled the hero account
nope the $10 evo price follows the evo to any account
they can tell its an evo from the esn so no matter what you have to pay the $10 extra fee
Love my Evo. Was waiting for the epic touch around the corner. Or get the photon now and maybe upgrade for the prime later on? decisions decisions
Just wondering, i've tried googling and I haven't found anything specific.
I got my Evo June 4th through Sprint so it was easy to throw the $7 a month insurance plan.
Now Im wondering, if I do upgrade in the future from a different store such as RadioShack, Wirefly, BestBuy, is it still possible to throw the TEP $7 a month on the new phone even though it's from another retail store?
Am I stupid for not wanting to put insurance on from the other stores instead of Sprints? I've had a good experience with Sprint when my evo power button stopped working. They said they had no more evo's in the warehouse and next-day aired me a brand new one.
Or... are the in-house (wirefly, BB, Radioshack) protection plans better?
Edit: Reason I ask are for the killer deals other stores have. For instance the Photon 4G at BB for $99 upgrade, where sprint has it for $199 upgrade
My name is David Keith Sims. Give Sprint my name. They hate me! They charged me $20+ for a phone call i made from +44 (United Kingdom) they saw my evil side!

It does not matter if you get your phone from a retail store its all Sprint at the end of the day. I purchased my Evo at Best Buy and another at Radio Shack. Now Best Buy offers a monthly insurance for I believe $10 which offers full replacement and upgrade protection. You have to just check around and see if those outside protection plans work better for you.
I have insurance through Best Buy and I just cashed in on my cracked screen this this past week. It took about 4 days to get a replacement (Labor Day holiday). I had a loaner phone in the mean time. When I finally got the phone, it was in better shape than that one I had...THUMBS UP!!!!!!
When you upgrade (sprint) to a newer phone, do you get to keep your current one? Like if I wanted to "upgrade" to the nexus s for $30, would I then have an epic and a nexus?
Yesthat is correct.

Thanks. I've never actually upgraded, lol. Except for the radioshack to this epic and I got to trade in my old phone for $50 off, I wasn't sure if Sprint took your phone or not
I think "buy back" for the epic is 75$- $100. But you would get more selling it on ebay with all your accessories...
