[Q] Will The Epic 4G Touch Work In Europe? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Like the title says, will this phone work in Europe? I am assuming it won't but I dare to dream. If the answer is /no/ then is it not possible due to hardware limitations (antenna not designed for GSM or w/e) or is it not possible because there's no mod/tool/patch/whatnot to unlock it for Europe. And if by any chance the answer is /yes/ then ignore me and call me names.
Also, as you might make out from my post, I'm not very mobile-stuff savvy so forgive me if I come off sorta clueless. Because I am.
Thank you.

If there is any cdma networks in europe then it may be possible..

The answer is no. There are no CDMA networks in Europe and it's not a world phone.

At least WiFi will work. XD

...that depends, which Europe you talkin about?

3G on ATT?

Changed every setting I can find on my new Touch Pro 2 but no HSPDA...
Think my phone is defective?
Any post appreciated
um... first of all, if you own a TP2, then you own a version that doesn't support US 3g.
Second.... wel no thats pretty much it.. sorry man.. If you want 3g speeds, you have to wait for AT&T to release their version of the TP2 (called the Fortress). As it is now, any TP2 that is unlocked is limited to Edge speeds. Sucks i know, but thats how it is Unless AT&T is in Europe and uses different bands for 3g over there that im not aware of.
Darn it. I know you're right it's just disappointing.
Thanks for laying it all out there for me.
Still a super cool phone tho! I hope it's not worn out before 3G makes it to me...
Was a very good replacement for my Sedna
My available WCDMA bands are:
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(900+2100)
GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
UMTS(2100+800)
Which is kinda funny because my Sedna will do 3G on the GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850) and this Touch Pro 2 will not.

tha tis because its radio doesnt actually have those available. it may list them but they are not available. you cant always trust the interface. this has been the case with the TP1,Diamond 1, TP2 and the HD
TP2 supports 900/2100 UMTS band and missing the 1900 (Reason why I didn't get TD2 or TP2). I have an Xperia X1i which supports the 1900 band and it works with ATT 3G flawlessly

Umm, correct me if Im wrong but wont the particular touch pro 2 you have never support att's 3g? I think if you want an touch pro 2 that works with their 3g you have to buy the one branded for them dont you?

currently yes. Thats not to say someone will not figure out how to get the bands enabled but so far the efforts for the TP1 and the HD have not proven successful (last i heard). If someone firgures out how to enable them (if even possible) i believe this community would put some money in their hands me included

wait does that mean that the unlocked versions technically are compatible with USA 3g but they just have it disabled?

No the bands just arent there. I've been a helper monkey for testing the US 3g capabilities of TP1 and helping with hacking attempts on it and trust me its not happening and I'll bet same on TP2

I think this is the current list of nations with CDMA networks:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_CDMA2000_networks
I would recommend that you simply buy a phone from a local mobile company. CDMA phones are harder to get working on other systems than GSM phones.
You have to find out what networks you have where you live. American CDMA is pretty much only a North American signal. The Evo is built to run on the Sprint network which is CDMA.
Most European countries (I know you are not in European country) run on a GSM network. Two of USA's bigger companies run GSM phones...AT&T and T-Mobile. Phones from both those companies will run in Europe...but not at 3G. But they will work.
My new Evo will not work in Europe...so next time I travel I will need to consider this.
Not sure if that helps. What network does your phone company use? Then get a phone that will work on that network. Evo is only CDMA so pretty much only a North American phone.
thank you very much for your answer, i hope to get a wonderful phone soon, and thank you again
Mine roamed on both data and voice when I was in Cabo San Lucas last week...

I live in Asia and yes, as long as you have compatible CDMA networks it will work, even the EVDO works!! You'll just need to ask your CDMA provider to inject a CDMA number or you can unlock it yourself using CDMA works (a bit risky thou)
Find out what frequencies the country you are trying to use it in run on their CDMA networks, Sprint runs on 1900MHz, the EVO roams on Verizon's 800MHz band. 800MHz is only for voice, 1900MHz runs both voice and data. So if you are in a country with a 800MHz CDMA network it will work, but only for voice/texts. WiMax runs on 2.5GHz, no one else uses that band for WiMax.
Get a unlocked nexus one it will save u the cdma trouble

Even if it works, and you try and experiment with it only, you might get a few thousand dollar phone bill. Be very careful.
It has happened with many people with iPhone.

Yep, the N1 has nearly the same specs, and is available in both an AT&T flavor and T-Mobile flavor of GSM. Find out what you need in your area (I expect it will be the T-Mobile phone) and go for that instead.
The N1 has a 5MP camera instead of 8MP, but the picture quality is often just as good (higher MP just means you can blow it up or crop more) and the screen is a 3.7" instead of 4.3". However both run basically the same hardware inside, and the N1 has a more mature modding community.

While Europe is a big place, the voice & wireless data portions of the Sprint Evo will not work in England, Ireland, Spain, France, Portugal, or Germany. Just like 95% percent of all Sprint phones.

Uhm...a flat contradiction adds nothing to the conversation. More data if you have it. The non-compatibility with Ireland/Europe/etc was a huge deal to me. One I had to just swallow and accept that if I want the phone I'd have to deal with travel at that time.
I spent weeks researching and was even told by Sprint store that no go on the Evo.
CNET: "Alternatively, if your relative is a Sprint or a Verizon customer, he or she can rent GSM phones from the carrier for the length of the trip:
HTC: "Networks CDMA 800/1900 MHz EVDO Rev. A, WiMAX 2. 5 to 2.7GHz; 802.16e"
Don't be an azz and throw out a denial with no information. Even HTC shows this phone has NO GSM.

Yes, 'cause apparently if you root anything CDMA, it automagically works with GSM.

It's an honest mistake. SIM slot issue aside, there are settings on the Evo to search for GSM. Maybe this doesn't mean there's an actual GSM radio in it, but it's still referenced, so some people with limited understanding of the difference may not know. No need to be jerks about it.
There is a gsm radio in the evo soc, just look at this link to the specs of the soc http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=cpu&id=a8650&c=qualcomm_snapdragon_qsd8650. But don't go thinking that you can connect to any gsm network, cause you can't no software stack for gsm.

[q] htc desire bravoc roms

Will there be any more development on CDMA desire roms?
Anymore development....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
1st post.
There is only like 5 cdma roms and around 25 gsm roms
Because CDMA is useless and not many people have it. Probably ~90% of people have GSM device. If you don't like it, buy a GSM device next time.
I will next time thanks for the advice
CDMA rules, whoever says GSM is the bomb is a complete moron. CDMA coverage in the US is twice as good if not more than GSM. idiot. 90% of people have GSM? that's a lie.

Yea, GSM coverage is really only available in metro areas. If you live in the other 98% of the country...you have a CDMA phone. I really don't understand why there's not more development. CDMA users have to outnumber GSM 3:1.

Yep, I'd say that. Rembering of course the USA is not the world. Other than 1 or 2 carriers (or whatever) in the USA and Telstra in Australia, the rest of the world use GSM phones. Yep, I'd say its around the 85-90% mark.

[Q] GN LTE on T-Mobile?

Now that T-Mobile is actually going to 4G LTE, will the Verizon GNex work on their network?
no.
CDMA is required for voice calling and it will be a different frequency.

no, you referenced CDMA phones which are in no way GSM.
besides, the GSM nexus doesnt have a LTE chip so the answer is still no.

considering i read your reply before you edited it, you clearly need to back off.
you asked the same question as the OP so i replied with you didnt read, which is true.
then you made some snide little comment but realized you were wrong and i answered correctly, so you edited what you wrote. oops?

Actually, I did read, I simply posted the CDMA instead of GSM, an honest typo. As soon as I realized what I did, yes I did change my reply. Then you answered saying that what I said I meant was wrong... how you know what's going on in my brain is beyond me, but your dickish replies aren't helping. All you had to do is say "no, the GSM phone doesn't have an LTE chip" and it's done. Instead you decide to be a smartass in your posts and get me riled up. So how about you take your own advice and also back off.
How about you stop posting questions and find answers by searching?

Funny you should mention that since I did and this thread came up.
If you tape a VZW Gnex and a GSM Gnex back to back, then you can have both GSM & LTE.
