So when you activate a new phone you have to do all the *228 stuff to register it on verizons network. Since the phone gets programmed OTA you have to be using a Verizon network. Thats where my first problem happened. Since I'm in Alaska and there are no Verizon towers (just partners) everywhere is roaming and you cannot do the OTA update/activation.
I got the phone programmed by changing the NAM settings by "calling" ##778 but only voice and sms work right now.
Now the only problem is that I don't know exactly what I need to change to get the data communications working. I know in order to use data communication on a partner network (while in roaming) you have to first use some kind of data transfer on a verizon network. I can only guess that is so the phone gets programmed properly.
If anyone would care to share their knowledge or share their Modem Settings and M.IP profile information hopefully I can get this thing working 100% again; and by not using verizon's "only" method (as the customer service says)
Call back VZW and tell them that you need to do a manual program - I used to work there and they should walk you through all of the steps/entry over the phone.

I appreciate the insight espmetalhead, however when I called vzw and asked them about manually programming it they said the only thing they can manually program is voice/sms. To program the phone for data you HAVE to be in a verizon network no matter what. I don't really understand why. I have another phone (blackberry 8330) that has working data communication here in alaska. WHy can't you just take whatever settings the blackberry has for data and use it on the incredible? lol. man, its so frustrating. I really don't want to ship my phone to my parents and walk them through programming the incredible for me haha.
espmetalhead: hopefully in your experience you've came across a way to manually program a phone for data communication...
There is a way to do it from what I remember, you just have to get to a data tech this is high enough in the chain so they can do a walk through. A csr over the phone should be able to route you to the right person. I know I did some Windows Mobile device manual programs that fired up data.

Unfortunately, you have to be in the Vz network to program for data. They use an authentication key that can only be transmitted OTA through their own network for data services. It's a CDMA thing, so there's really no way around it.
so why isn't it possible to just read the key to me over the phone or something?
Idk, it just doesn't seem right. It seems like that has to be a way to do it manually...
Maybe I'm just in denial because I really don't want to send it back to the lower 48
Manually Programming for Data
Does anyone know how to program the Incredible to get data? For some reason after updating to 2.3.4 it just quick making calls and getting onto mobile networks. I solved the making calls issue by manually programming it through ##778. But now I'm without data, so does anyone have any ideas on how to get this accomplished? Any help would be great! Thanks!

As a matter of interest :
1) Should I be disconnected from the net when I do this ?
2) Should I be taking the GSM-Card out of the phone when doing this
3) If I do a hard-reset now, and being asked x-cancel 0-hard-reset, what would be the result ?
4) Are there any other reasons for the device not being recognized, or not for soo long ?
PS. I am using the internet through a router/firewall and I am not using the XP-firewall.

I've got voice and texting working, I believe. But I can't get data to work. Can anyone help me out, please?
[EDIT] A little for info. I keep getting the error code 67 registration failure. Your PCS Vision username and/or password may be incorrect, or something. Saying invalid username/password. I have changed the username to my Boost Mobile one. But I don't know anything about changing the password.
Have you tried doing a profile update, thats how the fone gets its network access info and if the the fone is linked to your boost mobile account it should provide the username and password.
PS. What does the fone show up as if you look on your account online. Just curious.

I try and do a profile update, but it says the update has failed please try again later. I don't think it will work since the Evo is not actually supposed to be on Boost Mobile?
This is exactly what you need to do.. The phone that you cloned, to get the evo on the network.. You need to get the Shared AAA Secret and HA Shared Secret PAssword. I had this same problem with my EVo when cloning it with the samsung moment.. THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED! TRUST ME.. I spent months trying to figure out my problem and found it to be this.. This is the only method that can get you up and running. The HA Shared Secret is in Hex Format.. ill see if i can find that same guide that i used and post it later

Just do a ##rtn# and reset it. That's what I did after I put my evo on boost. It did the hands free activation and everything. Try that

IT WORKS!!
you are not getting 3G speeds if you just do a ##rtn# reset only 1x speeds. you have to get profile 0 user names and passwords from a incognito in order to get evdo rev a speeds or a rant to get slower evdo rev 0 speeds. to check dial ##33284# on your evo and go to data status you will see either evdo if you have 3G or 1xrtt if you have regular non 3g data speeds. just cause the 3G signal pops up does not mean you have 3G

My phone calls and texts work, Just keep getting "Data Call Failure" Error Code 67 .Registration failure. Your PCS Vision username and/or password may be incorrect. Please try again.
When I hit ##786(RTN)# It bring up Reverse Logistics Support? I hit "Menu" to do a "RESET", and then it powers down & reboots. Logo pops up that it is updating I guess. Again it powers down comes back up as new. Lost everything? Your account could not be validated?

Tried Changing MEID to donor as it is wrong. When I "RequestNVItemWrite MEID 0x00A0000000000000" I get "RequestNVItemWrite - Error response received from target" in QXDM found 3 MEID's @ 00075184, 00033960, & 0003E520 How can I figure out the address to type in? For example:
ESN addresses:
00FD:0DC8
00FD:2694
00FE:381C
ESN addresses:
0127:BCCC
015F:8D48

017C:7E1C
017C:E2D8
017C:F1D4
0188:B65C
01D4:3C01
I am receiving text messages & phone calls. Even though, my MEID is wrong on my EVO. I used HxD-Editor to find MEID's (3). Corrected them, but still can't write to EVO using QXDM? I am assuming this is why data isn't working? I am running Android2.2 Baseband 2.15.00.11.19

Your data isn't working because you don't have the AAA password. The meid doesn't matter because the evo uses the ESN. Get the AAA password and you'll be set.

How do I get the AAA password?
Has anyone had any luck getting data working with an Epic on Virgin Mobile USA? I got voice and text working, using my old Intercept as a donor phone (I care not for MMS and voicemail), but try as I might, I just can't seem to get data going.
One thing of note is the howto I read that said to run requestnvitemread ds_mip_ss_user_prof in QXDM, then run requestnvitemread ds_mip_ss_user_prof 1. When I ran it the first time, the AAA SS was blank, and the second time it wasn't. Mean anything? Also, the length states that the HA is 7 hex digits long, but the 7th is blank. Do I put that in QPST?
Any help would be very greatly appreciated.
After about couple of weeks of struggling with this issue, I have decided to bring to you guys. I have been trying to find out my aaa and ha shared secret passwords but I haven't had any luck. I have tried it through QXDM, QPST, DFS and CDMA Workshop. I can get the password for profile 0 bit not profile 1. Someone help me, Please.
Verizon will give me everything I need to know except my HA and AAA passwords. If I'm correct, HA is for 1x, and I don't mind using that because I have wifi at home. I would like to have talk/text only and 1x if it comes with that setup.
I have my MDN and MIN numbers from VZW and I have entered it via *#*#MSLHERE#*#*. I edited the two as verizon told me the two numbers. only the MIN(MSID) stayed and the MDN went back to what it was after reboot. If I can get this working that would be great.
