[Q] Virgin Mobile data? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone had any luck getting data working with an Epic on Virgin Mobile USA? I got voice and text working, using my old Intercept as a donor phone (I care not for MMS and voicemail), but try as I might, I just can't seem to get data going.
One thing of note is the howto I read that said to run requestnvitemread ds_mip_ss_user_prof in QXDM, then run requestnvitemread ds_mip_ss_user_prof 1. When I ran it the first time, the AAA SS was blank, and the second time it wasn't. Mean anything? Also, the length states that the HA is 7 hex digits long, but the 7th is blank. Do I put that in QPST?
Any help would be very greatly appreciated.

Evo on Boost Mobile - Data Connection

I've got voice and texting working, I believe. But I can't get data to work. Can anyone help me out, please?
[EDIT] A little for info. I keep getting the error code 67 registration failure. Your PCS Vision username and/or password may be incorrect, or something. Saying invalid username/password. I have changed the username to my Boost Mobile one. But I don't know anything about changing the password.
Have you tried doing a profile update, thats how the fone gets its network access info and if the the fone is linked to your boost mobile account it should provide the username and password.
PS. What does the fone show up as if you look on your account online. Just curious.

I try and do a profile update, but it says the update has failed please try again later. I don't think it will work since the Evo is not actually supposed to be on Boost Mobile?
This is exactly what you need to do.. The phone that you cloned, to get the evo on the network.. You need to get the Shared AAA Secret and HA Shared Secret PAssword. I had this same problem with my EVo when cloning it with the samsung moment.. THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED! TRUST ME.. I spent months trying to figure out my problem and found it to be this.. This is the only method that can get you up and running. The HA Shared Secret is in Hex Format.. ill see if i can find that same guide that i used and post it later

Thanks, but I don't even see an option anywhere to set those kind of passwords. Even in QPST I can't find it.
Alright, I found all the options to set those kind of passwords. But I can't find the passwords on the Boost Mobile phone to set them as. It's a Motorola W385.

Just do a ##rtn# and reset it. That's what I did after I put my evo on boost. It did the hands free activation and everything. Try that

IT WORKS!!
you are not getting 3G speeds if you just do a ##rtn# reset only 1x speeds. you have to get profile 0 user names and passwords from a incognito in order to get evdo rev a speeds or a rant to get slower evdo rev 0 speeds. to check dial ##33284# on your evo and go to data status you will see either evdo if you have 3G or 1xrtt if you have regular non 3g data speeds. just cause the 3G signal pops up does not mean you have 3G

My phone calls and texts work, Just keep getting "Data Call Failure" Error Code 67 .Registration failure. Your PCS Vision username and/or password may be incorrect. Please try again.
When I hit ##786(RTN)# It bring up Reverse Logistics Support? I hit "Menu" to do a "RESET", and then it powers down & reboots. Logo pops up that it is updating I guess. Again it powers down comes back up as new. Lost everything? Your account could not be validated?

Tried Changing MEID to donor as it is wrong. When I "RequestNVItemWrite MEID 0x00A0000000000000" I get "RequestNVItemWrite - Error response received from target" in QXDM found 3 MEID's @ 00075184, 00033960, & 0003E520 How can I figure out the address to type in? For example:

I am receiving text messages & phone calls. Even though, my MEID is wrong on my EVO. I used HxD-Editor to find MEID's (3). Corrected them, but still can't write to EVO using QXDM? I am assuming this is why data isn't working? I am running Android2.2 Baseband 2.15.00.11.19

Your data isn't working because you don't have the AAA password. The meid doesn't matter because the evo uses the ESN. Get the AAA password and you'll be set.

How do I get the AAA password?

HTC Evo 4g on Bell Mobility

Hello
So I managed to get my HTC Evo on Bell, I can make calls and send text messages, however I have no data connectivity. I have been trying to search forums and read up on how to solve this but I have not been able to find a solution yet. The phone seems to be stuck on Mobile Network "Turning On" forever.
The phone is NAND unlocked and rooted I have the Home SID/NID set to 16420 and 65535 like they should be for bell. The MCC is 302 for Canada. The MNC appears to be problematic though, as bell's CDMA is on MNC 651 but I can only enter 2 characters on the EPST settings for MNC? If anyone knows the settings I need to use to get this working on Bell I would be willing to compensate them for their effort since I have an unlimited data plan with Bell right now that I am missing out on !
Thank you
I have also started getting the Data Call Failure + Voicemail errors after getting my phone on bell.
I am in the same boat, I have spent over 10hrs. working on this. The MNC is 64 {640 truncated to 64}.
If you have any more success let me know please.
The problem for me lies in the m.ip settings.
Guys did you try posting in the Evo section? there might someone who can help or you could ask the Bell CS to help you configure it,
here is some i found, let me know if its helpful, its for telus, but you could follow instructions tho
http://cytraxtech.blogspot.com/2010/10/how-to-program-your-htc-evo-to-work-on.html
hmm well i set the MNC to the correct value.... i guess the only way to fix this is to actually go to the bell store and get them to give me all the info for the network.... but that presents a problem as the evo is known as an omnia on my account ;p

Call them lol, tell them your phone got messed up
Wondering if you can help me out getting my evo working on telus (Talk/text). Its unlocked. Im trying to zero out MEID/ESN (which is what i was told i need to do) .. Been trying for a while and still no luck!
Im desperate .. and would really appreciate the help!
Thanks
jmathieu2 the only way you can get your phone to work... is if you already have a cdma phone from telus so that you have a meid in their database to work with. then you have to zero out your evos meid and change it to the other phones meid,
you need htc diag drivers, cdma workshop full* costs $100, qxdm, and qpst and a lot of luck : -D i can do it for you if you live in the toronto or kingston area

The MNC 640 is
640 Bell Bell Mobility Operational UMTS 850 / UMTS 1900
651 Bell Bell Mobility Operational CDMA 800 / CDMA 1900
this is what we need for the evo so how do we enter 651 when we only have 2 characters space!
Here's my update
Using ##debug
under EVDO Engineering I have AN/AAA Authenticated, however, I have no IP
Getting Error 67 pretty regularly
I know the profiles are setup differently when comparing under QPST, on the EVO verses the TP2 for instance. The EVO seems to require using Profile 1 as the default, whereas the TP2 uses Profile 2.
I need to understand the mapping to the different profiles and how Bell uses them.. Bell uses MIP.1x.bell.ca and Services.1x.Bell.ca.
I assume MIP would be used to acquire the IP, based on the name, but I am having no luck at this. been a while now. frustrated doesn't begin to describe it.
I know someone who was succesful on telus, using 220 (22) for the MNC, and since it works for him I am going to use 640 (64) which is the same UMTS 850 / UMTS 1900, I know the phone is an 800/1900, but.....
I updated my build.prop as outlined on Program Evo for Telus
Anyone else have any luck on Bell, or have any insights on my questions?
Thanks for the reply. However I am not in the area About 8-9 hours north.
I do have a telus cdma phone currently (Blackberry curve 8330)
I have all the tools except I am not using the full version of cdma workshop.
I have already zero'ed our 9 MEID numbers and then re scanned the memory but not finding anything. I'm wondering If i might be scanning the wrong memory locations?!
evo has 2 readable ranges
0x00fa0000 - 00ff0000 ( 500000 bytes)
0x01080000 - 0x01D70000 ( 13500000 bytes)
Are the locations im scanning in CDMA ws under memory tab - Memory / Eeprom section. Then I open the output .bin file and search for my MEID number .. etc!
My phone is baseband 2.15.00.09.01 / Hardware version 0004
If you could PM me or give me some tips for scanning memory to find the MEID/ESN's to zero that would be great.
there are more ranges if you have 2.2
only thing i can really say is you just go into qxdm and 0 out the meid and reboot the phone and if its all 0 then you did it right... some of them are hard to see when trying to 0 it out make sure you didnt miss anything
I think its my scans in cdma ws that are incorrect.
I scanned memory location 00F9:8000 and 0107:C000 and found most MEID there and used 2 addresses i found online and found 2 more ..
Just not sure where to scan in cdma ws to find more.

Was there anything special you did you get it to get authenticated?
Am working on a Hero, but don't think it should make a difference. I've re-checked all the passwords, just can't seem to figure out why it won't connect.
What carrier are you with?
Also Bell. The only thing I see is the PRI is different, and did not know how/if to change it.
I have never gotten ANY data connection.
If you have 1x, can you please tell me your setup. I believe my problem is in the profiles in QPST. Not sure when to use services.1x.bell.ca, when to use 3g.1x.bell.ca etc. Also, what is your Donor phone? Mine is an HTC Touch, so ESN only, no MEID.
as far as PRL, I am using 31402
Fusion600,
I am researching this before I buy an EVO. I won't bother if I can't get a data connection.
I have my HTC touch 6900 running Android 2.2 It is using MCC/MNC of 310620 and I get data, so i don't think it really matters as long as the ESN is registered with Bell.
Have you made any further progress getting data working? Anyone risk calling Bell? or having them refresh your programming?
I have asked a few bell kiosk and have called in for help. There employees all seem to want to help but dont seem to know how to. I have now managed to get txt and calls to work from doing a little research. I will ask again and see if they can help now with providing some details about setting up data connections. will post if success.
any progess on this?? any one?? msg here or pm me thanks im tying to figure out the data stuff as well for bell
Sorry to bump an old thread, but any news on this? I have an Evo 3D from Rogers and want to bring it to Bell/Virgin mobile. I unlocked it for 8$ from a website for sim unlocking. I get calls and txts but same thing as you guys, no data >.<

question before i dish out $108 for cdma workshop

i have the evo and been tryning to get it to boost mobile. i got to the part with qxdm and zeroing out the meid and esn. i managed to erase the MEID which reads on the phone info (##786#) meid (hex) 000000 meid (dec) 000000 but i cant erase the ESN...eventually i gave up and left it as is and got the phone working on clearwire 4G...works great except google services (cant add google account) even thru wifi it gives me the : Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server
now the internet works but cant get that...is this problem related to my meid ? if it is then i would purchase CDMA workshop just to fix this but then again...theres a 2.7 floating about but im not a pirate...
Yes has to do with Meid and u cant change meid with 2.7 without a lot of skill but u can use qxdm but still need skill

Verizon/Page Plus/Straight Talk HA and AAA Password keys, QUESTION...

Hi Guys,
So I am trying to manually write the HA-Shared and AAA Password keys via QPST to a Sprint phone on Verizon (specifically Page Plus or Straight Talk). Unfortunately, though I have stable 3G (somewhat) and the icon is 3G, I am in fact getting the 1X data speeds.
With all the PPP and etc settings being right, I think it's the fact that I am not entering/writing the HA Shared and AAA passwords, CORRECTLY to the Sprint phone. I read these HA and AAA password through a Verizon phone that is active on the account and fetches 3G speeds, perfectly.
Question being, does anyone happen to know the EXACT way of writing the HA and AAA password, MANUALLY for data provisioning on Verizon (specifically, Page Plus or Straight Talk?). I am thinking and looking for like EXACT LENGTHS, and any other helpful information to be written in HEX format via QPST.
I read these HA and AAA keys via QXDM, and they each fetched back around 15 lines of data with 2 HEX values on line...
Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Make sure your donor phone is completely turned off. Then try to make a call and when the error 16 message comes on, just stay on the line and a sprint/boost rep will answer and ask a few questions about your phone. Just give them the info of your donor phone and they will refresh your account and tell you to power off your phone for 30 seconds and then power it back on and place a call that lasts for at least 30 seconds and you're good.

Thanks but after the error message the call ends by it self.
Might be an stupid question, is the MAC id supposed to change at all after all?
The Mac address shouldn't have anything to do with it. You should try calling boost from a landline phone. Just make sure your donor phone is completely shut off. Just tell the rep that you can't make any phone calls and make sure you give them your donor phone info when they ask what phone you are using. They should refresh your account and give you some instructions to perform on your phone.

Thanks once again I was able to make a call I stayed
With it more than 30 seconds like you said then somehow
Transfer me to a boost technician and problem fix
