[Q] Bluetooth automatically toggles on/off HTC TP2 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Ok, so I have the HTC Touch Pro 2 and was running froyo 2.2 (FXR07) and the bluetooth was working fine. It was actually working to route audio to my stereo headphone for listening to my audiobooks! Then, it suddenly stopped working correctly. I started having to manually re-pair the device each time. Shortly after that, it stopped allowing BT to turn on correctly at all. If I check the box to enable bluetooth, it begins cycling back and forth between turning bluetooth on and turning bluetooth off, until I uncheck the box. I tried updating to FFXR07.1 and had the same issue. I tried GBX0A and still had the same issue.
Note, I did carry over my data.img, which I realize I may want to go back and just try from scratch with the raw files and let it make a new data.img, but I will have to gack and try that again later to see.
Anyone got any other bright ideas on this?

This has been answered but I'll answer again. Delete the data.img. if you are switching between builds format the card first. Use titanium backup to backup any apps and info you need formatting is your friend.

re: Bluetooth
Thanks for the suggestion and reply. I did actually go back later and try recreating the data.img file completely. I tried this on both the GBX0A and FXR07.1 to no avail. I'll try formatting the card completely, but I'd like to give that titanium backup a try first. I'm not familiar with this, though and I'll have to see if I can find it and find out how to use it.

I wouldn't even use bluetooth at all yet. Audio routing isn't fully functional yet. Patience is a virtue my friend.

But that's just it...it WAS working fine...for a couple of weeks. Then all of a sudden just stopped working. And I Thought I'd seen in the dev thread where they thought they had it partially working.

In test kernels it works but test kernels use unstable code which can cause more harm than good to your build

So, at the risk of exposing my true ignorance here....what is the appropriate way to format the microSD card? Obviously I can't do it from within Android since that is running from the card. I have downloaded the HP format tool that is listed at the begining of the development thread, but it doesn't seem to detect anything. I'm assuming that it won't format the card while the card is in the phone, right? I'm guessing I've probably got to go dig out (if I can find it) the adapter that will allow me to plug the card directly into my computer, right? Or is there some way to do it from inside the phone with the phone plugged into USB?
Edit: Disregard. I figured out what I was doing wrong. When plugging it in while booted into WinMo, I had neglected to select to use it as a disk drive before. Once I did that, I was able to use either the HP tool or the Windows disk management tool. I used the latter since this one allowed me to set the allocation units to 4k as I had seen suggested elsewhere for performance improvement.

Well I hope you enjoy xdandroid I don't use bluetooth ever so the feature isn't a big deal for me. Everything I need works and I'm relatively happy with it.

[Q] App2SD+ and LeeDroid 1.9a USB problems

Hi there everyone,
I just decided yesterday to root and flash LeeDroid 1.9a, and what a nice ROM.
Then today I was about to transfer my music, and Navigon maps wich is something
like 4 GB's of DATA. But then the trouble begins, as somewhere in the process, the
device locks up, and the only thing to do is removing the battery. I am not really
secure about this, and after the second time it happened, I am getting a little scared
about trying this again. I was trying to do the job connecting the device with the
cable, and setting the device to "diskdrive mode".
The reason I thinks it locks up, is because of the App2SD+ implementation, but as
I am not very experienced with this, I really do not have any proof.
Maybe someone has another more secure method of dealing with file transfers, or
is the only option to remove the SD card and use a cardreader?
I am sorry if anyone needs clarification of anything as english is not my native
language.
Regards,
hallydamaster
usually it is best to post questions regarding problems with individual roms in the thread specific to that rom.... (a tip for the future )
BUT - usually I prefer to move large chunks of data around by removing the sd card and using a card reader or pc slot. always seems more reliable (and faster as well).
Good luck!
I use LeeDroid as well, often plug-in the phone in data transfer mode but never once see a problem..
Do precautions though, such as both eject usb device (on windows) and change to usb charging (on the phone), before unplugging.. I feel safer when having redundancy
from my Desire + XDA App
Thats also why I am wondering why it went wrong with my device.
Are you using App2SD+ as well, or is it App2SD with Modinstalllocation?
Have you tried transferring large chunks of data, lets say 3-4 GB's?

Issue with apps on SD after reboot

Hi all,
I have as strange issue in regards to apps on the SD card. I'm rooted, S-off on 3.29 stock. I installed installLocationMod, which enabled me to move any apps, even those not necessarily programmed, to be moved on 2.2 to the SD card. I basically moved everything that's not system, gapp, or widget related.
Everything works great, until I have to reboot, or I attach the phone to a PC as a hard drive. Basically, the apps don't come back after the phone comes back up, or its disconnected from the PC. I have to spend many hours doing reboots, battery pulls, dalvic cache wipes, etc, and then seemingly randomly, they pop back up.
When they're missing in the app list, the settings / app manager shows that they're there, but they're always "computing" when I select one to read the properties. Also, the market installer gets stuck, and I can't uninstall anything either.
Recently, I've read threads about partitioning the card before moving apps to SD.. is that still necessary with 2.2? Is that why this is such a pain? I'm thinking maybe the only solution is to move everything back to where they came from, and only move those apps that are specifically programmed to be moved on a non-rooted phone, and get rid of the modlocationinstall program altogether. That's a drag because I don't have room for all the apps, so I'll have to lose some... which is one of the reasons I rooted to begin with.
Any ideas? BTW, this is the second SD card that does this. The card is good.
Thanks,
Mike
Hey, I found this elsewhere on the forums in the LimeMOD rom in regards to mod install location:
"important !!! after a reboot you need to stop LauncherPro in the running applications menu to reload all sd installed apps !!! "
Could Sense be the reason for the missing apps issue? Is there a way to 'postpone' it on reboot?
Thx,
Mike

I'm thinking I might try stopping the Sense service after the reboot and letting it restart and see if they come back. I'll try it if I have to reboot again.. I'm actually avoiding rebooting at all cost now since it takes hours of frustration to get back to working order again.
Another thing I noticed.. alot of programs have that I moved have hidden services that are listed in a start-up auditor I installed just to see what the system was doing on boot up. I originally thought I'd be safe moving them since I didn't have widgets associated with them, or they didn't seem system related. Now I'm beginning to realize that I might have to be more careful what is moved, since I don't always know how they'll behave on boot. I suppose that's another reason why its best for non-techies just to rely on devs to build the default 2.2 a2sd behaviour into their programs, rather than forcing them there with stuff like mod install location.
Oh well... I'll keep you all updated when I know more. I'm rather surprised though, that more people aren't experiencing this...
Restarting Sense doesn't do anything. It seems still to be completely random.. usually after 4 or 5 hours of me continually manual rebooting. Nobody has any input at all?

update:
After several unsuccessful reboots, I was able to get back the apps by going into settings / phone storage and unmounting the card, and remounting it, with no reboot. I've tried that in the past and just had the phone lock up, but this time it worked. FWIW, modinstalllocation was set to auto, and debug was off. I don't know if its repeatable, since I don't relish having half my phone unavailable for half the day to test it, but next time I lose everyting, I'll try it again and update the thread. I realize that judging from the lack of responses, most of you all don't really care, but since one guy did say he had the same problem, and to prevent someone in the future from going through all this aggravation, I'll keep on top of this. It will be my little contribution to the forum...
UPDATE: Had to finally do a reboot, and all the SD apps came back! I'm thinking the card dismount/remount did the trick

[Q] Media files randomly disappear when connected as usb disk mode.

I havent yet found any solutions to this problem and decided to ask here.
This happens at only Sense based roms!
When I connect my phone as usb disk drive to pc and than back %90 of the time my media files randomly disappear. Many of my music files gone missing and my selected rimgtone / alarm etc mp3 also returns to defaults. Videos photos randonly hidden from system as well.
The files are there but android os cant access them. Only way is using an app like SDRescan this solves the problem until I connect the phone again to transfer files...
Please I have tried everything from formatting the sdcard with fat32 again to searching for .nomedia hidden files etc etc. No solution worked yet.
Again only Sense roms do this. I used MIUI and CM7 too they didnt have this behaviour I never loose any files like this.
Extra info: My phone went to service and mainboard changed and the same thing is happeneing so I have no reason to belive it is about the phone.
Only Suspect: SDCard. (The default one that comes with the phone) But it is not really a strong suspect. Cause it works in other roms.
Anyone has any solution? This is driving me crazy and I want to use my phone with Andoroid revolution HD rom.
Any help is appreciated.
123 hits and noone has any idea?
Could be something related to mediaserver...Nothing comes in mind as I'm playing paintball right now. Does this happen on all sense ROM's, (2.x - 3.x) or ARHD in particular?
Sent from my DZ.
Oh god an answer finally!
Ok this is my history with Desire Z:
bought phone:
Stock Froyo -problem
upgrade:
Stock Gingerbread - problem
rooted:
CM7 : no problem
MIUI (bulletproof) : no problem
lets try sense again after a long time!:
Revolution HD Rom: Problem again!!!
BTW I am not a noob. I have prepared an s-off/root and custom rom guide for the most popular forum in my country and helped a lot of people to root their desire z's.
Running ARevoHD rom with swap and supercharge with out any other problems at the moment.
But this stupid bug is driving me crazy. I gotto run SDrescan app after every time I use my sdcard as a disk.
Eh, sorry for not replying earlier, just came back.
Now, the behaviour you explain is odd. Have you tried logcat and see if there's any relevant output? I'd look for "Mediaserver" first. By the way, have you tried plugging the phone to another computer? I'd try that too.
The behaviour I told you isnt very uncommon. Many people have this problem. HTC answer it by saying "format your sdcard" some people says it fixed theirs. But my problem still goes on. Also I dont know where to and how to look with logcat. This happens when I choose DISK mode when connected with usb. And than when you go back to normal mode mp3's are gone until you rescan.
I cant believe I am the only one having these issues here.
Shameless bump
What brand card do you have? And remember, XDA is not your Tech Support site.

People come in, they read it, but have no idea how to fix your problem, so they don't reply.
There could be a problem with the rom, where it doesn't mount the card properly. Also what OS are you running, and how do you unplug the phone? Many people ignore the saftey removal warning for flash drives an other devices, but sometimes it could be the culprit. Next time make sure you go through the process to safely remove hardware and xee if it happens again (On Windows, right click the little icon in the bottom right to safely remove, and on mac, drag the 'drive' to the trash bin (which changes to an eject button)
Nothing is changed how I remove my phone from USB. I tried everything and it seems unrelated how I unplug.
Because this happens when I change my phone from disk mode to charge mode even.
ALWAYS the same MP3's are lost I am sure because I change my ringtone to same mp3 everytime and when this happens that ringtone disappears from music player and I cant choose it from ringtone setup screen. So until I rescan my sdcard with an app I cant seem to see those mp3's. There is nothing wrong with MP3's too.
I am not sure if the problem is my SDcard or the general Sense based roms. I am truely lost in this case.
It never happens if I dont connect it to usb and change to disk mode.
My theory :
Somehow the mediaserver who archives the media files forgets half of my files when lost connecttion to sdcard. I dont know why or how.
i used to have the same problem, but it disappeared by it self i don't know how, try formatting it
Oh as I said in my original message I formatted my SD card with fat 32 system and this didnt work at all. I will try again but it is frustrating to backup gigabytes of data froma slow card meh
It is good that I am not the only one I hope to find some reasonable solution to this.

SD issues

Hey guys, I've been baffled by this all day, if you could help me, that'd be nice.
So, I updated to the latest nightly the other day for CM11, (20140120) and when it booted, I couldn't get the SD card to mount.
I've now tried various ROMs, stock, every CM for my phone available, and no matter what, the SD won't mount.
I've tested multiple SD cards, thinking it was just a dead SD, but to no avail. What is weird is that when I plug the SD in to my computer (Via a USB adapter, and an actual card adapter as well on a second try.) it shows up completely normally, with all the files on it and everything. Tried reformatting it in Windows, Linux, and Mac as well.
Do you guys think that my SD slot has just crapped out? Because I can't afford a new phone whatsoever, and I love my baby Hercules.
Any suggestions would be lovely, thanks for your time!

Well since you went back to Touchwiz, and you tried multiple SD cards, I'm going to guess the actual reader went bad. My recommendation would be to go to multiple repair centers and see what they all say. Don't just go to one because they might rip you off and the more opinions the better

Well, everybody says that nothing is wrong with my SD slot, and I've noticed that when I turn my phone's screen on, it tries to read my SD, and it mounts successfully. What's weird is that the second I unlock my phone, it unmounts and asks me to format my SD. I tried formatting it in my phone, and on the computer (Unix, Windows, Linux) as well again. So, I can't really figure out the issue. It isn't just limited to one android version, it's on all. And even on Touchwiz it unmounts when unlocked. I'm quite baffled. ._.
Sorry to necro my own thread, but I need this fixed. lol
corrupted files maybe? Maybe its a software issue. Try going back to stock and maybe try again
Actually, this will sound really stupid, but I was installing Koushik's airplaymirror.apk, and I was doing it through ADB. I used adb root, then adb remount, and before I used adb push, I noticed my SD card mounted right after that command. So yeah, simple solution, but I'm still not sure what the problem was?

External SD Card not writeable in TB on 8.4?

I know it's early on but I rooted my Samsung galaxy tab 8.4 and I am trying to do a backup of my apps and I cant do a backup to my external sd card. TB is saying it isn't writeable. I have used the back button and such to manually change the directory. I'm familiar with doing that. I can backup to internal storage but obviously I don't want to waste the space when I have a 64gb micro sd card. Thanks for the help.

I can confirm the same issue. I've verified that the root directory is set to R/W using "Root Explorer" from the play store. For some reason, I can't get TB to see it as R/W, though.
Saving other items to the external card seems to work just fine. Camera saves there, no issues. Weird.

Yea thats what i figured out. So nice to be able to back up to the sd card and the process literally took a minute. Cool find.
I was able to fix this issue by simply installing Folder Mount. When you first open folder mount will offer to repair this permission issue for you. I said yes and it worked. Folder mount also stated this is specific to Sammy 4.4 roms... Just an FYI. Thought I would share.

Unfortunately, it's not something that Samsung decided to do, it's something Google started back in Android 3.2 and is now apparently asking OEMs to follow their lead on - or else the OEMs aren't reading the codebase much, which I think is also a problem.
The external storage permssions were spotted and commented on by Chainfire (he who gave us root, hallowed be his name ) in 2012!
https://www.xda-developers.com/andr...-preventing-write-access-to-external-storage/
http://www.chainfire.eu/articles/113/Is_Google_blocking_apps_writing_to_SD_cards_/
I'm not 100% on this, but I think that the Samsungs are one of the first sets of devices to get KitKat and to have sdcards. (don't know what the status of the gpad 8.3 is) It will be interesting to see if the Gpad 8.3 does the same thing; I'm pretty sure the Tegra Note did, and then EVGA pulled back on their KitKat update due to bugs, of which this was one (glad they called it a bug, but if they'd looked at the code before implementing the changes...)
This issue goes way beyond the sdcard. Remember when your device could be connected to your computer and turn up as a mass storage device, not a media player or a camera?
The MTP protocol originally implemented by Google was hugely troublesome on that score when it was first introduced. There were absolutely insane failure modes. To get an accurate readout of what was on your device you couldn't disconnect from your computer and reconnect, you couldn't disconnect, reboot the Android device and reconnect - nope, you had to reboot your computer.
I haven't thoroughly tested failure modes but at least the warning on copy from PC to Android works correctly now.
When first implemented by Google, file deletions on in Android were not reported to the computer connected to it if they occurred while connected. So you could move a folder and then try to copy files that didn't exist, and Android wouldn't report the file was not there.
This is an example of silent failure, which is the worst possible failure mode. It gets beaten into the heads (or once did) of programmers that you always produce and report an exception on failure. Not doing so is negligent and might be actionable depending on the context.
I just deleted a file from the Samsung and it's taken more than 30 seconds for the Windows system to get information on what's on the Samsung.
Great - I also couldn't enumerate my local disk drives while I waited, more than 3 minutes (i7-2600k, 8 G ram - not a PC side issue!) I finally disconnected and reconnected the USB cable and was able to get my disks to populate immediately on disconnect, and an accurate poll from the Samsung on reconnect.
I suspect that Google's 'fix' for the not-notifying-on-delete bug is to throw a disk not ready message back at the host system.
So, why does Google not see any of the following as important?
- easy local disk mounting
- viable sdcard use
- well-written MTP implementation
I don't think it's about the cash - sure, Google's selling a few books and a few movies and such, but they're really an advertising broker; the revenue from that isn't why they're worth gazillions.
I think it's actually much more insane than that: Google is all about big data and the supremacy of databases over all else.
Including files themselves - Google wants to drive toward a world where files don't exist, only pointers in databases exist.
http://glasskeys.com/2011/02/28/why-google-uses-mtp-instead-of-usb-file-transfer-on-android-3/
is a perspective on MTP that is essentially diametrically opposed to mine - it's quoting Google as pointing out that there is both simplicity and allegedly a greater degree of security from MTP.
The security comes from the filesystem retaining 'nix style ACLs and helping to maintain sandboxing between applications by not exposing storage as a fat32 filesystem and thereby giving up granular access controls.
---------
(As an example of silent failure that I think may be the subject of civil litigation: the flaw that broke SSL/TLS validation on most Apple devices - phones, tablets and OS X based computers. If you look at the code, it's blindingly clear what happened.
http://appleinsider.com/articles/14...pdate-is-present-in-os-x-fix-coming-very-soon
http://arstechnica.com/security/201...aw-in-ios-may-also-affect-fully-patched-macs/
This flaw may well explain the Snowden documents that indicate that the NSA has access to any Apple device at will. When those documents were first being reviewed, there were two responses:
- it isn't true
- Apple is in bed with the NSA.
Ignoring a bug that easy to spot in a functional test for years tends to make me wonder if the second explanation may not hold water.)
Hopefully this can help someone. I couldn't edit my *.xml file even though I am ROOTED. But I found this:

and it worked!! Now Titanium Backup is able to write successfully to my sdcard.

PRESOLVED: My Tab is possessed by the devil!
When I tried to write a file to my Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4's external SD card with Astro and it wouldn't work I was flustered. A little research turned up the crippled SD support in KitKat and how to fix things with the simple platform.xml hack. I did that, and all was right with the world again.
Then I got another 8.4, and actually cloned the first one to the second one with a nandroid backup. I also moved my SD card from the first to the second. Eventually I sold the first one and am just left with the second one. But somewhere along the way I lost the ability to write to the SD card, and I can't get it back!
The hacked platform.xml file was of course cloned along with everything else, but it just doesn't work. What's just as bad, or worse, is that apps which should write to external SD even without the hack (and which did, prior to this issue developing), such as Samsung's My Files, and Root Explorer, also are no longer able to!!!!
So to try and fix things, I flashed this ROM to my Tab: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2698460 But I still can't write to external SD, even with My Files!
Here's another problem, which may or may not be related: I also can't write to the external SD with the Tab connected to my computer. With a small file, the progress bar immediately jumps to 100% but then freezes and after a long time the copy times out with the message, "The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected". With a large file the progress bar plods along, first at a normal speed but gradually getting slower and slower, until at some point it stops moving and the copy times out.
Please, I beg of you, help me exorcise my demon Tab!
SOLUTION: Before actually posting this plea for help, I re-formatted my SD card (in the Tab) and all functionality is restored. I post this at risk of making myself look like an idiot, in hopes that it might save someone else's hair.
Good on you for posting the problem and the solution. I doubt you'll be the only person to experience this.

Just wanted to add a postscript for anyone who might have a similar issue. I thought this problem was solved, as described above. Then a few days later when I booted up my tab, the SD card was shown as blank/unformatted. At that point I did some more digging and determined that it was actually a counterfeit 32GB card, based on an 8GB card. Got a refund, threw it in the trash and ordered a new 64GB card. Caveat emptor!
