[Q] TomatoUSB VPN & Desire HD OpenVPN - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, i'm wondering if anyone got TomatoUSB VPN & Desire HD OpenVPN working? I've setup several diffrent configs and the problems is pretty much the same, i can connect but cannot access local LAN. Key's and Cert's are done but does anyone know how to configure the rest of it? Tried both TCP/UDP, TAP/TUN etc. But i can't for example connect with cifsmanager to localip/share.
I've tried with LeeDrOiD HD V3.3.3, and Android Revolution HD 6.1.0 (wich i am on now)
If anyone got it to work could you post what settings you have in the router and you client config?
PS: Connecting works from Windows machines with OpenVPN client and the same config(s)

Nvm, for some reason yesterday 'Fix HTC Routes' didn't work, had to restart it, today it worked. Prly fimbled to much with it

OpenVPN for HTC Touch HD (Blackstone)

Hello,
I am trying to get OpenVPN working on my HTC touch HD, but I'm having a lot of problems.
Since there isn't the systray because of TF3D, I have to launch the ovpncmgr manually.
Sometimes it launches, sometimes it doesn't...
When I suceed launching it, the program crashes when I try to set up the VPN connexion.
Could someone help me please ?
Thanks
I solved my problem myself, you must deactivate TF3D to see the systray.
The you can use openVPN, it works through my operator proxy like a charm !
Thanks for sharing that with us
Hi Devjr ,
I also make it work, deactivating TF3D.
But have you managed to route all the connections using the VPN ?
I mean I can't use for example remote desktop through it,
It tries to make the connection without using the VPN
I've just tested Remote Desktop over OpenVPN on a Touch HD, and it worked fine. I've also tested PuTTY to another machine on the LAN, and that works fine too.

HTC Sync/Tethering on a MAC with Desire

As title, I am considering getting a Macbook, and wondered if it's possible, or anyone has experience using HTC Sync, and using a Desire for tethering?

definatly no htc sync BUT give us a few seconds and i'll try out tethering
can't seem to find the login info and stuff for orange but it doesn't do it automatically you have to type it all in but that should be sorted with wifi tether, lets hope.
It's really tethering I'd be interested in, not fussed whether the HTC Sync works particularly...
Not sure about OSX but USB tethering works out of the box on a Linux (Fedora) machine. Plugged it in with 'Internet Sharing' enabled and it was detected as a usb network interface. Unplugged my ethernet and confirmed it works!
mac kept asking for log in details i will have to try it sometime soon while out of wifi range and just using phone.

That's good to know, would be great if anyone could confirm it working with OSX!
Hello,
has someone managed to get this working without using any third party tool ?
When I set the desire to share network connection, I see an modem available in the network configuration on the MAC but I cannot get it to connect, It keeps on prompting for cnx parameters , where there should be none ...
This is really annoying !
Thanks for your help !
I tried for ages and failed miserably to get it to work. In the end I caved and got PDAnet.
FroYo has the WiFi router capability now so I'm not worried about it.
Legend and Mac Internet Connectivity
Hi
I have been trying this with a Mac running OSX (Tiger) and an HTC Legend.
I got as far as starting system preferences....network
The Mac detected the Phone and I tried setting up the configuration with the Advanced button.
I used the Generic vendor, which then offered me a drop down:
bluetooth LAN access
dialup device
or GPRS (GSM)
I chose the latter - but it also asks for an APN and a CI (default is 1)?
Not sure what these are - or what to enter?
Or is this a red herring?
Many thanks

Desire and Connectify

Hey Guys,
I just got my amazing desire but I have no router at the moment so I'm using connectify.
My first problem with it though is that it could no obtain an ip address so I set a static one and it now connects instantly.
Which leads me to my second problem. It says I'm connected but I still cant load a webpage. I have enabled sharing on my ethernet port an everything so that devices can go through it.
Anyone experienced any problems like this at all?
Thanks,
Percy
You shouldn't have to enable sharing on your eth port, conectify should do all of this for you.
Do have any other devices you could connect with to test?
My only tw other wireless devices are my DS and my DSi and because Connectify only used WPA, my DS's only support WEP so i cannot test it with them
My desire and Connectify
I have the same problem and I'm waitting for any solution. Connected but no browsing >>> I try another device it's working well with my Connectify but my HTC desire connected but no browsing
Hint : I'm using MIUI rom in my htc desire.

Does anyone have VPN Connection running on 2.2

Title says it all.
All of the 2.2 roms and kernels I have tried will connect to the VPN but must screw up the routes as they shut off my data.
Does anyone have this running?
the only issue i have with "VPN Connections" is that is doesn't pass DNS traffic correctly. hence, i must connect via IP Addy not DNS name. other than that it works fine for me. i'm able to establish a vpn connection then use the WYSE rdc/vnc app to connect to my windows or linux servers ... connnectbot for shell access.
I've also been unable to connect to either a PPTP or IPSec VPN over my 3G connection since upgrading to the official release of 2.2 on my EVO 4G. The connection appears to be established just fine, and the VPN server shows that my VPN client is connected, but I cannot ping to or from the device, nor access any internal resources from it. This is a serious bummer considering that things worked fine under 2.1. Will test over WiFi when I get home. Can't test it at work since we're behind a proxy (which is another gripe I have with Android right now... seriously Google, no proxy configuration options?).
i feel i should clarify the name the application i'm using to establish a vpn tunnel is not the stock android vpn application.
it is called "VPN Connection" http://www.appbrain.com/app/org.codeandroid.vpnc_frontend

I have some interesting info regarding VPN behavior. With 2.1, of course, it did not work. Here's what I experienced: I rooted my 2.1 with Unrevoked (not a full root) and then I installed OMJ's (8/6?) Froyo and lo and behold, my encrypted PPTP VPN to a MS 2003 server was working perfectly. I assumed that 2.2 resolved the vpn issues. Since I thought 2.2 was a fix, I didn't hesitate to install another ROM. This time, though, I also did a NAND root and installed another 2.2 rom; whose, I don't remember. My VPN was gone. What I discovered was that I COULD connect to an unencrypted MS PPTP server, but still not my encrypted VPN server at work. So, here we are today. I'm running Vael-Pak non-sense rom and after I loaded it I had no vpn, but here's the thing...a couple of days ago I was poking around inside some of the Evo's networking files, I didn't change anything, I just opened them and looked at them with Text Editor, and since then my encrypted PPTP VPN has been working great. I'm very hesitant to reboot my phone because I fear that it won't work anymore. Right now I'm happy.
I'm trying in vain to get VPN connections working too. The only ROM that I had it working with no problems was Cyanogenmod's. All the others don't seem to have it supported in the kernel. Now I'm running a ROM based on the stock 2.2 but haven't found a fix yet.
I'm in the same boat - my pptp vpn worked fine in stock 2.1, but not in stock 2.2...

I can't get a pptp (haven't tried l2tp) to connect from my unrooted 2.2 evo with encryption enabled. I'm trying to connect to my server at home running winxp pro with the default winxp vpn server setup.
Works fine if you disable encryption. But what's the point if it's not encrypted, right? It works fine with encryption using a laptop or my old iphone3G. Seems to be a bug with android.
I'd like to know if someone finds a workaround.
This worked in 2.1 - froyo broke it

I am in the same boat. On CM6 VPN works flawlessly, but it is missing a lot, and kept crashing on me.
On every other ROM and kernel with tun.ko, it says it is connected but no connectivity.
AVA V6 is fast, good battery life, everything works (including hulu, and blockbuster) and very stable, but the only single thing I can't get working is Cisco VPN!!

I am curious, does anyone have VPN working on any Froyo ROM besides Cyanogen?
If so what Rom/kernel are you using?
Interesting observation last night - 4g was temporarily working in sf, and my pptp vpn worked over it. I turned off 4g and retested, pptp vpn didn't work over 3g...

[Q] WiFi-Hotspot and PPTP-VPN-Passthough

Hi
I don't know excatly when the problem started but I know that it was working on the stock rom and that it was working on certain versions of ARHD, unfortunately I don't remember anymore with versions these where. Now on 5.2.6 I can't connect my laptop over the WiFi-Hotspot of my Desire HD with PPTP-VPN to an Windows Server. The server logs mention something about the missing GRE (protocol 47). I know that the server is working (tested on normal internet routers, UMTS sticks and other android versions). Is there a way to tweak the NAT on the ARHD so that PPTP-VPN will work again? Or does anyone have some suggestions where I could start looking into this problem myself?
Thank you very much!
I solved this particular problem with the app WiFi-Tether. But I would still be interested in the info if I could change the NAT behaviour myself somewhere in the console.
