"German publication Heise.de managed to lay their hands on Nvidia’s internal roadmap which revealed that, while the company expected to support Windows tablets and Windows Phone smartphones, this is not expected to happen before 2013.
Support would be by the new generation of 28 nm Grey processors which includes 3G/4G modems supplied by their newly purchased Icera subsidiary which Jen-Hsun Huang, chief executive officer of Nvidia called “a tiny chip to address the vast majority of the smartphone market."
The chips are sure to feature multiple cores and GeForce class graphics, with the preceding Wayne Chipset featuring a unified shader architecture and support for CUDA.
We will likely see these chipset first in Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 handsets, meaning the next generation of Mango and Tango handsets will likely remain Qualcomm exclusive."

EDIT. as was supported out by PG2G and satchef1, the article seems to misinterpret the slide. the vertical axis is represented by the device type not the OS, therefore means the OS plays no true significance in this Roadmap timeline.
I'm fairly sure the blogs are misreading that slide. The vertical axis is the type of device, not the OS. It doesn't really tell us anything about the timeline for when Microsoft will add support.
The way they are interpreting it, Tegra 2 was Linux only and NVIDIA won't be on Windows 8 until 2013. Both wrong.
I think you're right. Counting the logos as being significant to the graph makes no sense.
The way I'm reading it, in 2013 NVidia will be splitting their Tegra product line in two. Wayne will be the high-end Superphone/Tablet/Clamshell(? Japan?) chipset, but they'll also unleash a lower-end Smartphone chipset called 'Grey'.
Not only would waiting until 2013 to support Windows and Windows Phone seem odd and silly, I can't understand why they would split the product line in to Linux + Android and Windows + Windows Phone. I can't think of any sensible technical reason for either.

I'm guessing 'clamshell' refers to netbooks or other mini-laptop variants.

So I noticed this article, basically, it comes with windows mobile 7 and supports both EVDO and HSPDA, it supposedly has a different chipset to. It's obviously going to cost more to. Can anyone tell me if this is worth waiting for?
http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=3664
Windows Mobile 7 isn't developed yet. Microsoft just finished 6.5.
So I think it will take some time untils Microsoft will realease WM 7....
yea it says not at least until quarter 3 the phone will be released
The slides were leaked in march, but there's no indication of when they were MADE. It's entirely possible that it is the Touch Pro2 we know and love, but that things have changed since the slides were made and/or the early product slides contained some errors (as was the case with some ATT slides on the HTC fortress).
I wouldn't consider waiting for it until I knew for sure that it existed. With that said, I assume Windows 7 is the selling point for you. Personally, I never like getting an OS brand new. Too many growing pains. I let other people adopt it first, iron out all the wrinkles, and then 12 months later, once they're done paying extra for the privilege of beta testing I get the finished stable product for less.
Everybody's different, and especially if there's a specific feature in a new OS someone can't live with out, it might be worth the hassle of early adoption. But I would encourage people to not automatically assume the newest version will be the best for their needs.
Where do you get the Idea, it's not the rhodium? I don't see much of a diffrence. I've seen this pics before and at that moment they did represent the touch pro 2.
It's probably a typo.
Probably should read 6.x, possibly .x as it'll be either 6.1 or 6.5

3.4" screen, winmo 7. Chipset looks like "7600", although it is scrunched a bit. @Phil, I don't think we're looking at typos so much as early/sketchy drawing board specs. If this sheet were made last year before OS delays, windows mobile 7 might have seemed doable.

I think your probably right actually, it's probably an old spec sheet.
Considering HTC are probably working internally on devices that they plan to release in the next few years, have them completed at least several months before release (time to test/finalise specs/release to manufacturing) and probably announce them to networks way before we find out about them so there is time to negotiate sales contracts etc chances are that's all this is.
That's the Sprint version of the Touch Pro 2. It's based off of the Rhodium nomenclature but is built differently. Also Windows Mobile 7 has been taken off in favor of 6.1 upgradeable to 6.5. The device is EVDO Rev A and HSDPA for 2100 and 900 bands only which means only usable in Europe and Asia. As far as I know, it's still sporting a 3.6" WVGA screen since the size is almost the same as the current GSM Touch Pro 2 except slightly thicker. This is actually pretty old news. HTC has a separate code name for this one except I have to take a look at the presentation I have somewhere in my files.
the device does exist, here are the device infomation taken from my device:

I think this is the touch pro 2, just an old document that is now outdated, I doubt that they would make two phones with the same code name, and also the phone in the picture looks like the touch pro 2 but has a smaller screen and less ram so in some ways it seems worse than the touch pro 2, so if ti is a real phone i would say no

I wouldn't hold my breath, that's going to be more of the same stuff. The OS isn't ready, has no dialer and other important parts; they won't be able to clarify whether third-party apps will be able to work in background as there are no third-party apps for WP7. If they see lags in the interface that won't mean anything. If they don't it won't mean anything either.

And who's to say that the build shown at MWC wasn't an old build? They kept insisting that it was an "early" build. Most people probably just assumed that "early" was still "recent". But what if by "early" they meant "from a few months ago"? If nothing else it was somewhat old because that was their latest "stable" build while their devs certainly have unstable builds being worked on still. No way they risk a huge event like that with untested software. And they don't want to show their whole hand so far out. They just wanted to get the base UI and principles out there to get the hype started. We'll prolly se a more feature complete build at MIX. Maybe even a full emulator
It's not like Engadget is going to be borrowing the device with no MS person around. I wouldn't be surprised if a MS person was the only one using the device like at MWC. Don't expect Engadget to find anything out by playing with it. If there is any new info learned, it will be from a MS person telling them the info while showing off the OS. Not impossible but not likely either.
Engadget's latest teaser for the event sheds some more light...
Microsoft will also be on hand to demo Windows Phone 7 Series and the company's own Aaron Woodman will be sharing stories about the major changes Redmond has made to the Windows mobile OS.

No not much at all.
The guy at MS was very vague (except for the "hint" that we should attend Mix2010) and didn't reveal any new information.
The biggest thing was the first WP7 phone, the LG whatever. It had a keyboard, but they neglected to try out WP7 in landscape.
They said not to rule out Linux and Mac support for WP7. It is currently not supported, but is an "internal debate".
Also noted is that the IE is an early build, and I wouldn't be surprised if the whole OS is still an early build.
Supposedly MS has been talking with Adobe for awhile and Flash would be an important thing to have in the browser (something of that sort) and MS wants their browser to be competitive, yada yada.

What does this mean for chances of W7S on the HD2? I'm a complete noob here. Please don't bash me too bad if this is a dumb question. It seems the i891 meets even fewer of the WP7 specifications than the HD2!!!
Sorry, cant post links
Now that's creepy. Microsoft better not be playing a bunch of people. If Windows can run on lower-grade devices, it better be released for them too.
That may be true- but I think its going to be optimised over its life before its released so it will be a different device.
WM7 is more about standards, and things have to have lots of stuff to be allowed to use it- which makes sence.
Is it possible that Microsoft are shunning HTC because they've focused more on Android than Win Mo in the past year?
i think its the same body as the i8910 HD but they might have updated the internals. i.e. processor, RAM, ROM ..

OR maybe it's HTC wanting to provide phones for the business end of the consumer spectrum and thus staying far away from WP7 and instead going with android.
The device in question is a prototype that will NOT go on sale; I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from this.

A prototype using existing hardware for an OS that should not run without a magical "video scaler"...good going M$. What a nose dive. It's all about pushing over priced phones now. Where did the pda concept go? You killed it.
I guess my point is, if it can run on this phone, why not the HD2?
The phone is hacked, the screen size is obviously different.
the fact that they look the same doesnt mean that they are the same
first of all, the bottom part of the phone shown at mix is longer
second, the distance between "samsung" label and screen is obviously bigger
they just put the hardware in a shell just to have something to demonstrate.
its like taking your hard drive and sticking it into a case to make it portable

Because they can make more money with new HD2 + new hardware buttons + 7 Series OS (this world has bad sides I know)
I accepted that the HD2 will not get 7 Series, because there really are a few good reasons. The HD2 does not meat at least 3 to 4 requirements.
BUT, then I see this...
Anyway, I am moving to Android in April/May.

The HD2 has no search button, no hardware camera button, no dedicated power button, half a gigabyte of flash memory when the minimum requirement is 8GB, and has an SD card reader which is banned on WP7S devices. In addition there is a significant question-mark over whether the touch-screen is capable of registering the necessary four independent points of contact, and some doubt as to whether it has the necessary non-GPU-based hardware image scaler.

Yep, sorry 2 phones... Sorry I was posting from my TP2 and only had a limited time to look at the article before heading off to work. The Two phones looked like 3 but the riser phone is shown twice.
They're also in the 'coming soon' section at mobiles.co.uk with pictures.
Doesn't look much like we've been led to believe WP7 looks like though...I could be wrong....could this perhaps be the lost version of Windows Mobile instead?

It's built on CE6 (which is shared with the Zune HD and WP7). In the future, MS's plan is to merge the two platforms together with the Kin interface running on top of a future version of WP (think MotoBlur running on top of Android)

It could be a way to give a second life to our devices ...

I hear you. I'm hoping for the same thing. Did you sign the petition by any chance?
Bring out dat JB
Around the middle of last year some people were saying an 8.1 jailbreak existed but people just didn't want to release it because they thought a major update was coming. That didn't turn out to be the case, though, but yet a JB still wasn't released. Maybe it was all made up?
That is most likely the case.
It is a shame, not that windows 10 will not be released for the device, as I'm not particularly fond of the operating system, but that this implies that any software support for the platform from Microsoft will cease. Obviously anything critical regarding security and whatnot will persist for a little while due to a modest business market. The devices also made it into schools following the massive discount so perhaps it'll persist at least for another release cycle.
That being said it does make the acceptance of the petition more likely which makes my aspirations of getting a functional free software licensed LaTeX editor running on the device, ridding me of the need to purchase a chromebook to run fedora on until I actually have the funds to do so. Getting something like mpv running also sounds nice (but seems out of my depth given it requires more than simple recompilation.) Does DXVA exist for the RT platform? I'm unaware as to how hardware decoding has been implemented in any existing RT applications.

I don't think so as it doesn't seem common, the surface rt devices use either Nvidia Tegra 3 or Tegra 4 depending on the product your looking at.
And I don't think there is any additional circuitry for hardware decoding.
So maybe you can go look for the ´Tegra 3/4 specifications and find out yourself.
I think it would be really nice if we could get a Linux version running on these devices. I'm not a fan of Linux, but it's a far better choice for extending the life of these devices.
Heck, i'm still running windows RT 8.0 because there is no usable irc client in the windows store. There are tons of things for Linux that would very likely work if we just could get Linux running on these.
If the windows RT was opened up that would be nice but unlikely. The Linux porting would be more likely but pretty hard to do

If I had to guess, maybe RT users will get MS Edge? I wouldn't mind getting the start menu from 10 but it's likely not happening. Better .NET support for RT would be nice too (would be too much to ask to be able to run VS or maybe VS Code on our RTs)
