New WP7 phones and link @ zune.net - Windows Phone 7 General

The 3 "Kin" phones are up and have links @Zune.net

There are only 2 Kin phones. What is this third you are refering to?

Yep, sorry 2 phones... Sorry I was posting from my TP2 and only had a limited time to look at the article before heading off to work. The Two phones looked like 3 but the riser phone is shown twice.

They're also in the 'coming soon' section at mobiles.co.uk with pictures.
Doesn't look much like we've been led to believe WP7 looks like though...I could be wrong....could this perhaps be the lost version of Windows Mobile instead?

Don't forget about Dell's *rumored* phones ---> Smoke, Thunder, & Flash.... Supposedly Flash and Thunder will also run WinMo 7....

'Kin' phones? - won't be long before the letter 'F' precedes it!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4j3BwTR3VmQ
Damn, it looks sweet. I haven't seen all these features before.
But...
What if I don't want to tweet, and do Facebook. Is there a possibility to socialize with other sites?

hold up, hold up....
So Microsoft Kin is completely different than Windows Phone 7?
They say the Kin is loosely built on Windows Mobile...?

scratches my head wondering, *KIN is not KIN phone.. but actually is ZUNE PHONE!* without doubt...

It's built on CE6 (which is shared with the Zune HD and WP7). In the future, MS's plan is to merge the two platforms together with the Kin interface running on top of a future version of WP (think MotoBlur running on top of Android)

iphone users get all the cool stuff!!!!

Just found this http://www.ononesoftware.com/blog/2009/05/15/iphone-app-from-onone/, it looks usefull (to me anyway) shame I don't have an Iphone.
It's such a shame there aren't so many cool apps or well polished apps for WM6+ the hardware is probably capable of a lot but i feel apple users and android users too are getting all the fun, new apps all the time, nicely presented, stylish usefull (admittedly some less usefull than others)
I am a very visual person, i'm a photographer and I design websites and dabble in a bit of graphic UI design sometimes, and I find a lot of apps for my phone are visually dull, visually lacking in inspiration and usefull as some may be (currently using pocketwit a lot) they just don't compete with shiny apple/android apps.
The screen shot mock ups for the new HTC Hero look like they are trying to hop onboard the iphone app/widget train and look nice but I tried out a host of different twitter clients for my TP2 before I went for pocketwit (which I can theme a little) but ditched them partly because they looked dull. It's like finding a website that someone created which is the most usefull website you could ever use...but they built it using badly structured tables with garish bouncing animated giffs and wrote it in the late 90's using MS frontpage.
sorry, it's late and i'm a little tired and i felt it had to be said...
bah why not use remote desktop on the TP2 with EOS Utility on the laptop and an adhoc connection between the two. Thats what I do... live preview and all...
If the software that hurts your visual esthetics is freeware, I would suggest that you contact the developer and offer him your help on polishing up the UI. This is meant serious. As being a hobby developer myself, I sometimes find it hard to create the gui in aspects of esthetic. I make it functional from my point of view but it's not looking nice.
On the other site, you just might want to get an iphone or android...
just my 2ct.
offering to glam up apps is an option of course, this was the last ui theme i designed...quite a while ago now but it started a big following of people trying to port it to other music player apps which was quite cool.

I love my TP2 and glossy and refined as the iphone and android phones are they just don't cut it with my business and working requirements.
See that link you posted earlier ir803? I don't think it's that impressive. Read the detail, you need to hook a laptop up to the camera over USB then the iPhone application connects to the PC.
You can already do this on the TP2. Just run the same PC-camera software and access it via remote desktop or VNC. If they offer a web interface to it then just connect over the web in your phones browser.
That's the difference between the TP2 and the iPhone. On the latter you can do what someone else has specifically allowed you. On the TP2 you can use generic tools to do just about anything.
But yeah, the aesthetic side of it is poor. Most of the apps I run are reasonably polished but there are a few uglies I use such as PuTTY and VxUtil just because their great functionality outweighs the visual manure that is their UI.

Windows Phone 7 Series, here's the pictures!

Microsoft's set the internet ablaze with new information about the Windows Phone 7 Series which was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress today at Barcelona.
The pictures and videos are pouring in and I'm here to help organize some of this mess for everyone.

My thoughts exactly. Let's hope some form of 'skinning' is possible.
It's very ugly..Zune HD like....
Super ugly !!!
The homescreen is ugly, but the rest of the OS is very elegant and simple. You guys should watch demos on youtube you will be blown away. MS said that there gonna be tight on OEM customization, but I think their still gonna allow some customization for OEM to stand out from the competition. You guys REALLY need to try out the demo site: http://www.windowsphone7series.com/
i think also it is nice and clear - thats what i want - no overfilling with buttons and things from tabs and options on the "homescreen"
it remember me more of that TouchOne skin - where u move up - down - left and right to reach specific screens instead of using a tabsborder. people often forget that we use such phones also in cars and while walking - so we need a sure and failsafe surface with not to small buttons (at least less).
if anybody knows a good and fast! UI for Wm6.5 let me know - new sense is nice looking but still i search for something simplier to use/touch UI
First impressions...
It looks overly simplified, and more like an art project - or a set of 'design placeholders' that mark areas still needed to be finished in detail.
I question a lot of real-life interactivity with the device, it seems a little silly having the text of the hub cropped off screen.
It wouldn't surprise me if the the API's for this are very basic (aka. simple gadgets) - I have a feeling this isn't designed to run apps in the traditional sense.

Windows Phone 7 Series device from Samsung is just a hacked i8910 HD

engadget dot com/2010/03/16/windows-phone-7-series-device-from-samsung-is-just-a-hacked-i891/
What does this mean for chances of W7S on the HD2? I'm a complete noob here. Please don't bash me too bad if this is a dumb question. It seems the i891 meets even fewer of the WP7 specifications than the HD2!!!
Sorry, cant post links
Now that's creepy. Microsoft better not be playing a bunch of people. If Windows can run on lower-grade devices, it better be released for them too.
That may be true- but I think its going to be optimised over its life before its released so it will be a different device.
WM7 is more about standards, and things have to have lots of stuff to be allowed to use it- which makes sence.
Is it possible that Microsoft are shunning HTC because they've focused more on Android than Win Mo in the past year?
i think its the same body as the i8910 HD but they might have updated the internals. i.e. processor, RAM, ROM ..

OR maybe it's HTC wanting to provide phones for the business end of the consumer spectrum and thus staying far away from WP7 and instead going with android.
The device in question is a prototype that will NOT go on sale; I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from this.

A prototype using existing hardware for an OS that should not run without a magical "video scaler"...good going M$. What a nose dive. It's all about pushing over priced phones now. Where did the pda concept go? You killed it.
I guess my point is, if it can run on this phone, why not the HD2?
The phone is hacked, the screen size is obviously different.
the fact that they look the same doesnt mean that they are the same
first of all, the bottom part of the phone shown at mix is longer
second, the distance between "samsung" label and screen is obviously bigger
they just put the hardware in a shell just to have something to demonstrate.
its like taking your hard drive and sticking it into a case to make it portable

Because they can make more money with new HD2 + new hardware buttons + 7 Series OS (this world has bad sides I know)
I accepted that the HD2 will not get 7 Series, because there really are a few good reasons. The HD2 does not meat at least 3 to 4 requirements.
BUT, then I see this...
Anyway, I am moving to Android in April/May.

The HD2 has no search button, no hardware camera button, no dedicated power button, half a gigabyte of flash memory when the minimum requirement is 8GB, and has an SD card reader which is banned on WP7S devices. In addition there is a significant question-mark over whether the touch-screen is capable of registering the necessary four independent points of contact, and some doubt as to whether it has the necessary non-GPU-based hardware image scaler.

I'm from Cologne (Köln).
Maybe the event will be at the (2008 opnened) Microsoft building at the Rhein in Cologne.
Yes, it's a giant M(icrosoft) with its own Lufthansa Check in and Marina.
If its in a smaller location it can be at 4010 (a new Concept Stor by Deutsche Telekom).
http://4010.com/home?loc=Köln
sorry but Nokia do not show any devices to this event
http://thisismynext.com/2011/08/02/nokia-microsoft-windows-phone-gamescom/
I really hope we see some WP7 devices from Nokia, soon. I always liked their phones in the pre-Smartphone area and hope that their Windows phones will be as good as their old stuff used to be.
More to the point, Nokia need to get there devices now, certainly before the next iphone, as soon as that comes out it will be game over as far as building any momentum is concerned. If it comes out before hand and its the n9 design as leaked (great design by the way) and its pushed heavily with advertising across the board then they might stand a chance.
Its all well and good being hush hush on future devices, but on a launch like this with a new phone on a new os (for them at least), they need lots of stock, lots of advertising, and they need confirmed dates that the public can await and look forward to. So far Nokia have been far to slow yet again to react, which is the reason there in this mess to begin with.
my 2cents anyway.
Unless I am WOWed, I'll stick with old HTC...good dependable phones for the most part....
I hope the first Noika models to the US are fully maxed out with front camera and all the bells you can wish for. Not the low end, low price point models they are talking about.
Mayby they show a N-GAGE like Windows Phone 7.5 for Gamers!?
IMO a phone with Joypad-like Buttons and Xbox LIVE (more great games will come after Mango release with all the new API) would be THE phone for Gamers.
Day one for me!
I will be there with my hawkeyes. Strength of the hawk
Check out todays BING picture!

I'm excited they've always had the best hw

Nice, intentional.

If MSFT was smart enough, wud it b better to use 16:9 size as the scr spec standard?

If Microsoft was smart enough, would it be GREAT to use 16:9 size as the original device specification screen standard?
When I say 16:9, I mean 480*854 instead of 480*800.
I'm not talkin abt high res scr, like 720p or so.
I'm talking about scr ratio.
Guys what du think?
As I c, all the Metro UI on Windows Phone 7.5 is using vertical display MUCH MORE than horizontal display.
Luk at the start screen, the row4 tiles bottom r being cut out... guys do u think 6 tiles is enough to display essential info? What if u hav 10 tiles?? on the first glance!!!! w/o scrolling, man!!!
Luk at the applist, no horizontal arrangement, which means it's amazing to have the extra 54 pixels?! wud it be more elegent?
luk at Office Hub and People Hub, I hav totally no idea Y Microsoft cancel the plan of general use of hardware Search Button, it's fine, cuz it's make no confusion to users any longer, on the matter "when can users use search", but the problem is, it took the VALUABLE vertical space!! Damned!!
If u guys compare WP7 & WP7.5, u will c how pathetic Microsoft Designer is trying to ruin a Perfect Design!

The UI was once like dis, but guys luk at your People Hub today, on Mango, I can hardly c the second contact!! Is dis studpid??
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Shorthand on a tech blog is stupid. Please attempt something closer to English. I'm no grammar nazi, but talking technical using "lyk" and "wud" is stupid.
And the English Language wept.
The 5:3 aspect ratio could be preserved for future specification bumps. A 1280 X 768 4+ inch (diagonal) display is not impossible.
I am going to guess that this is because most phones during Windows Phone development uses WVGA. FWVGA hasn't been use much in mobile phones until recently.
One of the most interesting thing to watch for in the future is how Windows Phone will deal with different resolution and whether it will maintain the same aspect ratio.
Well, I think the screen is fine, they should just tighten up the interface a litte.
i.e. the headers/tabs on pivot and panorama pages take up too much space.
the people hub for example, in the contact list I have a huge piece of text "people" on top, plus the letter category thing.
This would be just fine if they disappeared when I scroll down, but they stay glued to the top, wasting 1/3 of the screen with useless information.
If I really need to be reminded that I'm in the people hub, a tiny label at the very top would more than do the job.
Thanks for saving on the letters by using shorthand. I am running out of pixels on my laptop. That reminds me! I need to stop by BestBuy tomorrow morning and buy some more pixels!
the contacts arent visible in mango because mango added groups to the people hub, not because MS wants to ruin the design
