Flashing RUU and S-OFF'int. Need help. - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys!
Firstly, sorry for my bad English, I'm not very good at it. Okay, so I have HTC Wildfire with CM7 and 0.80.0003 HBOOT, S-ON. I wan't to do S-OFF with Revolutionary and update ROM. My phone is rooted. Can anyone write what I need to do step by step? I know that if I wan't to do S-OFF I need newer version of HBOOT. I know that i need to flash RUU, but I don't know how to do it. I'm afraid that I can brick my phone while doing this, is it possible? I hope you understand me.

For flashing a RUU u must download a RUU from shiped roms or from XDA and its in .exe format just run it and follow the on screen commands thats it...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Flashing_Guide_-_Android
here is a ling that may be useful for u buddy
Happy modding

Ok, thanks. Can anyone show what RUU do I need?

Froyo WWE 2.22.405.1 EXE file from Shipped ROM's.

Ty. Okay, now I have RUU downloaded, so all what I need to do is just plug in USB, run .exe file and follow instructions like in Xda Wiki guide? Or I need to change some USB settings, ie USB debugging or something like that?
Also, after flashing RUU, do I need to root? I have this RUU:
Code:
RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2_22_405_1_Radio_13_55_55_24H_3_35_20_10_release_160191_signed.exe

Yes, Plug it and run the EXE file like in the XDA Wiki Guide. The phone will be unrooted after you flash the RUU, but since you plan to get S-OFF using Revolutionary, you need not root it and can directly proceed to using Revolutionary after installing the RUU.
BTW, I did have USB Debugging on when I flashed it, so I can't really say whether it is needed or not. Better keep it on in any case.

Thanks again. I flash RUU, then do Revolutionary and that's all? Then I can install any ROM and do anything I need, like now?

When you install Revolutionary, at the end, it will ask you whether you want to install Clockworkmod Recovery - Choose Yes to that.
Once clockworkmod is installed, Yes, you will be able to flash Custom ROM's and stuff, like you can now.

Do I need to perfrom NanDroid Backup while doing this? Or there's no risk that I can brick my HTC or something like that?

The method is pretty safe, so there's no need for one, really. (In any case, when you flash the RUU, you will lose Clockworkmod Recovery, so you wont be able to take a nandroid backup), but, keep one just in case, anyway

When flashin RUU i got this error: ERROR [131]: CUSTOMER ID ERROR. It says, that I'm usin wrong RUU. Can anyone help me?

You will need to create a Goldcard. in that case. Guide here:
http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/

Some of the links on creating the Gold Card are dead.

In that case, use the GoldCardTool in conjunction with that guide - It automates a lot of things, is pretty much self-explanatory and doesn't need the SDK
http://android.modaco.com/topic/308798-pc-application-goldcardtool/
NOTE - The Goldcard generator website (http://psas.revskills.de/?=goldcard) needs to be up and running irrespective of which method you use.

Goldcard generator page not found. Ant ideas what to do? I can't find any other generator :/

I am assuming you are referring to the Revskills page? If so keep trying - Its a one of a kind page on the Web apparently, so, if its down, you wont get your Goldcard. (Unless some member offers an alternate service)

Ok, page is working again. Now i have goldcard, it's time to flash RUU.

[Q] Root question

Hi guys, got my Orange-branded uk desire a couple of days ago and have been reading up on rooting etc ever since.
In homage to my username, i'm following this to remove the carrier software:
(rootmydroid.cx.ux/) guides/general/howto-root-your-htc-desire-wildfire-evo-incredible-with-unrevoked/
I'm at step 3. My question is where can i find the most up-to-date official htc rom to flash onto my desire? I know a google search will give me loads of choices, but a lot are now months old and I'm keen not to flash an old version - im running 2.2 at the moment, but i basically just want an unbranded phone without the hassle of making a goldcard.
Is there one single file out there that i need? or will it consist of seperate rom and a radio files? Will the rom come as a .zip or .exe?
I know its a basic question, and once i've got the answer i'll leave you alone and follow the guide myself....just didnt want to flash with unrevoked, and not have a rom to reflash!
if it helps, these are my details:
bravo pvt4 ship s-on
hboot 0.93.0001
micro 051d
touch panel synt0101
radio 5.10.5.30
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
You will need a Goldcard if you're moving off an Orange rom even if you're going to stock HTC.
This is the first thing to do before going any further.
As for an upto date stock unbranded rom, see http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
You will need to run this RUU on your PC while your phone is connected in fastboot mode.
Please be aware tho, that there isn't an Orange RUU available at the moment so going back to an Orange stock rom could be an issue.
Oh, and do a nand backup as soon as you have rooted.
Mike

Ah right, ok
I was under the impression that loading a rom via unevoked would effectively overwrite the rom i have now, meaning the carrier's applications would be removed in the process?
I guess a complete debrand isn't what I'm after - I don't mind if i still have the Orange logo on start-up (I don't want to unlock it from the Orange network either), as long as there are none of their applications like Orange Maps and Orange Photos when I'm actually using the phone.
Would i still need a goldcard for that? Or would i be able to follow the guide in the link in my first post, flashing the rom you suggested at stage 3?
Thanks in advance!
If you're going to go to a stock, unrooted, unbranded ROM then you won't be able to restore a nandroid backup as you need root!!
First thing, as said, is to make a gold card. Then use it to flash the 2.29.405.2 RUU. Then see how you get on as it is. If you still don't think it's doing what you need it to then root and go for a custom ROM
Right, ive created a goldcard using a guide on the unlockr.com
The website provides links to desire rooting tools 0.75 or 0.80 bootloaders, however mine is 0.93.0001. Can anyone offer any guidance please?
Thanks in advance!
http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
can i use that with a goldcard to just debrand then? thought that was only for rooting?

The stock rom (or pretty near to stock) you posted a while back eddy was good enough for his needs do you think?
I think Frankdroid did a variation in your thread of it with root and a2sd+. I was using it for a while and battery was good and the rom smooth enough.

Right...
If you just wanna debrand, as is get rid of the Orange crap, and not be rooted then all you need is a gold card and the RUU from my signature. This will give you a stock, unbranded HTC ROM
If you wanna root and go for a custom ROM, use unrEVOked
yea, i just wanna get rid of the Orange crap. I've made my goldcard, following a guide on theunlockr .com, but have come unstuck when it lists some downloads for certain bootloaders that would allow me to run the RUU, however my bootloader is a lot newer so i wasnt sure where i go from here, now that i've made my goldcard
I've downloaded the RUU, but when i run the .exe, is says its not a valid win32 application....?
Basically i've got a goldcard and the ruu. How do i now get it loaded on my phone?
Which RUU did you download? Latest unbranded one is the one in my signature. Ignore guides online as they've not been updated for months
ive got the ruu from your sig. Goldcard was made following an old guide on the web. Will this be ok?
just not sure where to go next in terms of actually getting the ruu on my phone with the goldcard
Gold card guide is fine. That RUU is also fine as it's my upload and is the one I use myself (using Windows 7 Ultimate x64). Don't know why your version of Windows won't run it - unless it's a corrupt download
yeah, weird. Using Win xp. I'll redownload the ruu in your sig. Once i've got it, what do i do? Turn on phone with power/vol down? Then what do i need to select? I'm guessing once im in the right section, i just connect phone to pc, and just run the ruu .exe?
Sorry, loads of basic q's, appreciate your help!
Turn phone on holding the back button and you'll be in FASTBOOT. Connect to the PC and once your Desire says FASTBOOT USB run the RUU
An error (-5001 : 0x80070002) has occured while running the setup.
Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications. If the error still occures, please contact your vendor
Bugger! Any ideas?
It worked! Thanks a lot for your help EddyOS
np
Remember, though...you'll need your gold card for ALL future OTA updates if you're staying stock. You may as well make your day to day card your gold card to cut out the faffing about!

Attempted to Update my HBoot version and now have a bricked INC..Help! 10 bucks

I tried to update my Hboot the other day to .92 i believe from .78. Thinking it was as simple as flashing it through bootloader and thats it. I was stuck at the white htc screen for hours so I figured I was screwed. I wiped everything with no luck and then I flashed something so now my HBoot is 0.77.0000 and my Radio is 1.00.03.04.06. I was previously running CM7 nightlies. After flashing whatever zip I did I was trying to reverse what I did by "downgrading" and what I did was delete everything. I cant boot and I also dont have recovery anymore. I can only use Bootloader. PLease any help I can get is appreciated. If u can tell me how to fix this ill make a 10 dollar donation to your paypal. My e-mail is [email protected] if u want me e-mail any information. Thanks a ton
Try the following link.
You may need to get an usb sd card reader. That way you can put the needed files using your pc.
I am sure someone more knowledgeable will come along to help you.
I read somewhere that if you can get to the bootloader, it might have not neen bricked yet.

Download this file
http://www.fourty.net/~berzerker/sto....605.1_RUU.zip
Rename it to PB31IMG.zip, put it on the root of your SD card, Boot into the bootloader (hold vol- and pwr) and let it run the update. After it is done you will be back to a stock 2.2.
I forgot to mention in my initial post that I also updated my radio to the newest 2.15 but still had recovery after I did that and after that is when I tried to downgrade everything and lost my recovery. Didnt know if that makes a difference or not. Thanks for the quick replies
Goos3y that link you sent me says 404 not found.
ok there is hope. I am a littl confused though. Do you have recovery?
No i do not have recovery only hboot. I am using my lady's Droid X with my SD card to put any files on the card that I need to.
http://dougpiston.com/?page_id=108 download the PB31IMG.zip put it on the root of the sd card and flash through bootloader as previously stated. Make sure it is named PB31IMG.zip or it wont get recognized. You will loose root and have S on. Thank doug piston for the dl.

this is not in the right section but if you can still get into recovery restore a working nandroid back up. after that go to backup and restore>advanced restore and restore your boot image. im pretty sure upgrading you hboot erases your boot image.
EDIT: I saw that someone posted a PB31IMG up earlier. I'd try that one first,
This is for the RUU exe.
An RUU is a program which links to any phone that can get into bootloader, and installs a completely unrooted stock image to your phone. It can be done either by using the linked program (an exe) or getting an ruu version that is a zip and running it on bootloader with a specific filename "PB31IMG.zip"
This tutorial is for the EXE version linked below.
WARNING: I have no idea what happens if this is used on an SLCD incredible.
Therefore, you need to know what kind of screen you have, and I'm no expert on that.
DONT use this RUU if you find out you have an SLCD screen.
I am not sure whether android sdk tools or htc usb drivers are nessesary for the ruu, so if anyone can comment on the necessity of these, i would appreciate it.
Heres what you need:
1. A PC
2. The RUU exe file
3. a cable to connect the PC to your phone
4. The knowledge of whether your phone is an SLCD or not.
Instructions:
1. Hook up your phone to the computer
2. Put the phone into hboot
3. Run the ruu
4. If it messes up at the usb detection thing, keep the phone plugged in, exit the ruu program, and then run it again. It should work then.
At the end of this process you should have a fully functional unrooted froyo incredible.
You dont need to give anyone $10. We all want your phone to work.

You will lose root (easy to get back) but will still be S-off.
You can either use the PB31IMG or the .exe method. Just grab the files off doug piston's website. We've had a lot of problems with SLCD owners grabbing the RUU off youtube and other sites then having a screen that no longer works.
I tried the PB31IMG zip method but in hboot after searching through the file it says no image. I am going to try the RUU now. Do i need to have the android sdk stuff on this computer for the RUU to run correctly? I am using a different laptop, one which does not have the driver files installed that I needed to initially root my INC.?

Unfortunately Marty, its not easy to tell which is amoled and SLCD without having the phone on to verify that its hardware revision is 002 or 003.
002=amoled
003=slcd
If you still have the box i'd recommend looking at it.
I thought you loosed s-off but ok. Did you make sure the PB31IMG.zip was not named .zip.zip?

Well, if you run it without them, and it doesnt work, it wont make anything worse. It just wont work, and then youll know. It probably has nothing to do with the SDK and more to do with HBOOT USB drivers. I would say go for it without any of that.
The most important thing you can know is that your incredible is not bricked. Its totally fixable.
I screwed mine up in precisely the same fashion early on, and used the EXE with good success.
Im positive. I got the phone in august of 10 through verizon. I dont have the box anymore. I have looked into it before and think "think" I have the amoled screen.

August = AMOLED
SLCD didnt start to ship until september.
The RUU is loading now. Its at 76% on Updating system. So, if this does work where does my phone stand? Do I need to re-root get s-off and things of that nature?
You will still have s-off. Your phone will be on a .92 hboot with the 2.15 radio. You will need to either rerun the root tool to get recovery back or use a recovery that is flashable through hboot. If using the PB31IMG didn't work for you before I suggest rerunning the tool.
Once recovery is installed do not attempt to restore from within recovery, instead download another rom and flash it through recovery.
Just wanted to drop back in and say thanks to everyone who helped me get my INC back. I really appreciate it and I can throw the BB Storm back in the closet!

[Q] S-Off questions and curiosities

I can see that more is possible when you s-off but I need to know some things before I look at doing it:
Is it better to start from scratch: i.e unroot, re-root using unrevoked, THEN s-off my phone?
Will any AMOLED WWE RUU be good enough to unroot? (if its beter that i do)
For those of you reading this that have done it, which method do you reccomend? (Virtualbox, CD or whatever)
Thank you for any and all replies, I've already ruined one phone on my contract (i tried to OEM update after rooting stock rom :/) and i REEEEALLY don't wanna have to go thru that again. Honestly any and all tips other than answers to my questions are most welcome!
**Matty Matt**
Was your phone on Orange FW when you got it? If so, you'll need a gold card to flash a non-Orange RUU. If you're OK with this, use this one:
http://www.multiupload.com/LEJCW182AH
I'd say do a nandroid backup of what you've got, go back to stock and reroot then S-OFF and then restore your backup.
As for doing the S-OFF, burn it to a CD and boot PC from the CD

1) You won't need to unroot, I S-OFF'd when I was using Oxygen RC1 and it was unaffected.
2) Any WWE RUU should suffice, but you won't need to unroot.
3)CD is by far, far, far the easiest method.
thanks for that, and thanks for the link! I believe there's also a TUT on theunlockr.com that I found with some tips too.
EDIT: thanks Kalavere so at the moment it's CD: 2 USB and Virtualbox: 0 LOL
+1 for not unrooting. In fact have a read of this thread I posted when I was trying to s-off. Never did get to the bottom of it, but it seems something in rooting stock rom and creating a goldcard stopped me from doing it.
Once I flashed a custom rom it was fine!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987739
Yes CD method for sure.
Interesting, so by the looks of things it would save me hassle by not un-rooting! right well I think i'm gonna give this a bash this weekend/tonight depending when i have more time. Keep the advice/experiences coming guys!
It's not the hassle, it's just I prefer to do things properly and I've never had any issues doing it from stock. As said, do a nandroid before you unroot and you'll be good to go back to the ROM you're currently using once you're all done

AlphaRev 1.5 How To Get S-OFF
I am writing this from memory as I S-OFFed my phone sometime ago but here is how to do it. No responsibility if you brick your phone. This process is dangerous and may brick your phone so if you do not have a good reason to do it or do not know what it is, don't do it! Your phone should be already rooted for this to work.
1. Go to http://alpharev.nl/
2. Download AlphaRev 1.5 HBOOT reflash utility (first download link on the page)
3. Burn to CD / put on USD Stick using UNetbootin / Create VM (CD is the preferred way to do it ... "safer")
4. Boot computer from CD/USB while the phone is DISCONNECTED!
5. When prompted connect phone to computer using USB cable and follow instructions. Phone doesn't have to be in fastboot or anything, the program will reboot your phone for you. There are three steps to the entire process. Once you press enter and aknowledge that the process may brick you phone ... go make tea/coffee as it will take 10-15 minutes. DO NOT DISCONNECT your phone from the computer under any circumstances UNLESS EXPLICITLY TOLD THAT IT IS OK TO DO SO or you WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!
6. Eventually you will be prompted to press any key to shut down the computer, that your S-OFF was a success and that you can enjoy your phone to the fullest now. Your phone will be in fastboot mode (if I remember correctly or may be rebooted fully). To check if you have S-OFF boot into fastboot and it should say ***AlphaRev*** and your HBOOT should be 0.93.001 now as in the screenshots posted above. Your splash boot image would have also changed (Search XDA for how to change your splash1 as it is doable in a few easy steps with "any" image).
Voila, you have S-OFF. You ROM should remain as is (the process only replaces HBOOT) while your recovery may or may not be there.

go back to stock with a RUU.
i tried to S-OFF while running GingerVillain and it didnt work, i thought i bricked my phone since it went past -STEP 3 DONT PULL BATTERY OR YOU WILL BRICK THE DEVICE- and it stopped working so i pulled the battery
then went to stock and rooted and S-OFFed without any problems
well as other replies, don't need to unroot But makes sure that the stock rooted rom you are running the process S-Off is using the folder /data of your system so it's advice not use data2sd or whatever 2sd... more there
I used the usb boot, takes 5 minutes only, rooted stock rom 2.29...
Virtualbox is probably the safest method, but is does take a lot more setup
AmonRa 2.0.1 | PVT4 40000 S-Off Alpharev 1.8| HBoot 0.93.1000 | Radio 5.17.05.08 | LeeDroid 3.0.2 (A2SD) | HTC Desire A8181 | UOT Kitchen Mods

[Q] S-OFF... Again

Hi all.
I have a rooted wildfire with a custom ROM on HBOOT 0.80. As I'd like to S-OFF it, I searched for info, and at first it looked like I had to RUU it (with goldcard and all), and then use Revolutionary to do the trick.
Then I found this thread. Inside the file linked there there seem to be the correct HBOOT I need (1.01, same one as in the RUU) and a clear explanation of how to upload it, and I thought maybe it could be possible to just flash the HBOOT alone, without the rest, and then S-OFF the phone. In theory, this would cut the necessary steps quite a lot and allow S-OFF keeping the phone as it is.
The questions are, has anyone tried this procedure? If I do try and something goes wrong, will a nandroid restore of my previous setup also restore the old HBOOT, thus making the phone usable again?
Thanks!
Veon11
You can't use that method. Fastboot needs S-OFF by Revolutionary originally.

[Q] Correct file?

is this file http://www.mediafire.com/?1ovb6959r9qyg6wthe correct one that will restore me to non-rooted status and regular gingerbread? I was reading online and a lot of people got bricked phones from using a froyo file (not completely sure.) So could somebody check this out, I don't mean by like using it, but just letting me know if its safe.
I'm on break for my grad class right now so I can't download that file. Download the Gingerbread RUU from pvillecomp.com, if you want to be on stock gingerbread.
If you want s-on then I think (I'm not certain) that you need to download the unrevoked s-on/s-off tool.
Edit: For clarity (and anyone who doesn't know), make sure the RUU is saved to your sd card as 'PB31IMG.zip" but without quotes then install that file via hboot.

That link just goes to the mediafire home page for me. May i ask why you want s-on?
If you want s-on and back to stock, you need to download this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Unrevoked/unrevoked-forever-son.zip and flash it thru recovery like a rom. Then do an ruu http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.06.605.3/PB31IMG.zip, to get everything back to stock. Really no need to ever go s-on unless your taking it to verizon or the insurance people though.
