are you indeed in fastboot mode ?
power down the device
plug in the usb cable into the phone not the computer just yet
while holding down the "search button" plug in the usb into the computer
and itll kick it into fastboot
little led on the power button will light up blue indicating your in fastboot mode
then try the commands
usb debugging and all that wont help it since your not booting up android

Yeah the phone was in driver mode. I didn't think Usb Debugging would help although I was desperate enough to try it. any one else that you know whould be able to help?

Is your phone sim unlocked? Fastboot doesn't work on carrier locked play models.
Sent from my R800

Yeah 100% that's why It's such a mystery is there anymore information Ican give you to asist in your help?

I think the key to the bootloader maybe wrong. Recheck and fill in the correct information in, i had 2 different keys and the 2nd one was correct because I misspelled my name on the first key
I used the XDA App to post this, what did you use?

Unlocking bootloader HTC Tattoo -Spain

I've an HTC Tattoo and I'm trying to unlock the bootloader with the HTCdev bootloader unlocking. I do everything they say to do, but when it's time to put this command:
fastboot oem get_identifier_token
I get this error:
...
(bootloader) [ERR] Command error !!!
OKAY [ 0.007s]
finished. total time: 0.008s
I've removed and inserted the battery lots of times, reinstaled the drivers, searched information, but I couldn't find any solution.
I've S-On. I suppose it's not a trouble.
Thank you in advance!, you'll help me a lot!
I have the same issue with my HTC desire Z.
It shows following error:
...
(bootloader) [ERR] Command error !!!
OKAY [ 0.008s]
finished. total time: 0.008s
Is there another way to find identification token?

[Q] fastboot get_identifier_token error

i am trying to unlock my bootloader on my "T-Mobile G2", the HTC G2 (Vision), using my macbook pro (OS 10.8.5) and the newest version of fastboot (i just downloaded adt-bundle-mac-x86_64-20131030.zip and the files were right there).
on my HTC G2 screen it says FASTBOOT USB all nice and waiting for me...
i am in my platform-tools folder where fastboot lives and i type:
$ ./fastboot oem get_identifier_token
and it says:
...
(bootloader) [ERR] Command error !!!
OKAY [ 0.007s]
finished. total time: 0.007s
but WHY??? arrrrrgg.
$ fastboot devices
shows the phone is there.
my firmware is Android 2.3.4.
i was just reading that because i have HBOOT 0.82 it wont work... god... so how do i upgrade HBOOT? why is this such a pain?

HTC Desire 816g Dual Sim ( D816h) (mt6592) Bootloader Unlock

So I have been trying to unlock my bootloader for four months, and have failed literally every time at the same step.
The step being, fastboot oem get_identifier_token
Waiting for device
Unknown command
Time taken 0.003 seconds.
If anyone can help me unlock my bootloader, that would be great.
Also, I am unable to enter into 'hboot', it directly goes to recovery mode. (volume down + home button). All my device drivers are installed (HTC sync manager recognised my phone once, but after it recognised all the music, it immediately showed no device found).
This is my current situation, please help me out here!

My phone is unrooted, obviously not bootlocker, flashed with stock firmware. I am also unable to enter into the hboot page. I never could do that, I tried it two months into buying the phone, yet I never could enter the hboot. Does HTC Desire 816G Dual Sim (d816h) even have a hboot page? All HTC phones have a hboot page right?

1. My FASTBOOT USB page looks like the picture I attach for you.
2. If you cannot get the Identifier Token of your device, as you said, you cannot proceed to Step 7 and submit the Identifier Token to htcdev. And so they cannot email you the "Unlock_code.bin" file.
3. Can you upload a clear picture of the page you enter by pressing vol down+power?
4. Are you sure your device is supported by htcdev? (your exact model is not listed on their to be selected. Ask htc.com via online chat whether your device is supported or not.)

I guess that the problem is the mode where the device is in.
1. In your device's "Developers options" is there two following options?
USB Debugging
OEM Unlocking
2. If yes, are both enabled?
