I am using MIUI on my Desire GSM and I am pretty impressed!
I only flashed the MIUI rom (or better the german translation of it), no hboot, no kernel and no radio!
So I want to ask you:
1. What can I expect from some other kernel?
2. What can I expect from some other radio?
3. Is there a possibility to use some other hboot for more space for apps on my internal flash?
I also got some problems with my miui:
4. Sometimes the phone is consuming very much power. About 850mW for 3G Is this a problem I can fix with a new radio?
5. Every time I pick up a call or I call somebody, after picking up I get a 1-2 seconds Mic-blackout! Is this a problem I can fix anyhow?
Thank you for helping me! I got 4 friends with the Desire GSM and I want to know the best way before I'm going to help them with MIUI.
1. Yes, you can go for other kernel and test you battery consumption. I am having MIUI 1.9.2 with Tiamat 4.0.6, so far battery life is good.
2. It is subjective to your mobile.you need to try it and a settle with one which works great for you.
3.yes, you can choose custom hboot from alpharev as per your custom rom requirement.
4.yes using 3g will consume more B battery.
5.may be it is a bug, not sure.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
1. If you say "battery life is good", you mean better thas the normal MIUI Kernel? Or which Kernel comes with the MIUI Rom?
2. I got no problems with reception, only the 3G power consumption and the delay after the call-establishing, may this be fixed with new radio?
3. Does anyone know how much system and chache is needed for MIUI?
4. More ok, but so much!? More than LCD and CPU together!?
5. Has anyone similar problems with his Desire & MIUI?
1. yes, battery life is much better with Tiamat than the default kernel
2. you need to try and see
3. MIUI takes 120Mb, better to have 180Mb for /system, 30-40mb for /cache (to avoid FC while downloading big apps from market) rest for /data
1. Is there any good thread where I can learn something about the Kernels and their compatibility with MIUI?
2. Same like 1?
3. So you would prefer the "Bravo Sense"
check this may be it would be of some help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
Any recommendations which Radio I should use? One of the stock Radios or the one on the MIUI site?
And do you think, a Radio or RIL Update will help my delay problem? :
5. Every time I pick up a call or I call somebody, after picking up I get a 1-2 seconds Mic-blackout! Is this a problem I can fix anyhow?

Thinkong about trying cm7 just a few questions i have that i cant find answer to.
1. Does it support a2sd
2. Is cm7 as stable as leedroid 2.2
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
1/ I think so but I don't use A2SD.So better check the thread on Nighties in the ROM section. It has to be described.
Check also the one from FunkyCow. It's a good and stable ROM also but with few things added (google app, battery patch...)
2/ For me yes. CM7 is my main ROM but I didn't check LeeDroid for a long time.
So I can just say that CM7 is stable if correctly installed (wipe...).
Anyway with Backup possibilities... just give it a try. Don't forget the zip for battery consumption (ROM section also).

not entirely true, cm7 is still in rc2, its stable for every day usage but sometimes it acts a bit up
only problem that i have encountered is the accellometer not working some times, gets stuck in landscape mode or portrait mode, depending on when it stops working
Hey Everyone,
I was reading up on the Cyanogenmod 7.0 and after being intrigued by what i saw I am thinking about switching from Leedroid and I got a few questions:
1.Is Cyanogenmod noticeably faster and can I expect any differences in battery life?
2.I never had a non-sense rom,how big are the differences? Are there replacements for the Sense Weather Clock Widget (I love that thing )
3.When I flash CM,at which point do I install the google apps?after a full first boot?during the same recovery session as the installation?
4.when i install apps from titanium backup,is it necessary to delete all the htc apps from the list of apps to be imported?cause i backupped all system and user data and i am wondering if sense-related apps may cause trouble with the new rom?
5.Might there be an even better Gingerbread Rom out there that I am missing?
thanks in advance, looking forward to checking out cm7 soon
Answer for 2 questions:
Battery life: it should be the same or a little bit less if you flash a kernel with good battery gestion. I tested all 2.3 roms here excepted CM 7, and in comparison to Leedroid, i never had the same battery life
Rom to recommend: Redux
Incredible rom, ready for daily use, clean, google apps in the rom, and cpu gestion is available in settings. So perfect rom for me in 2.3
1. Yes its faster than normal sense based ROM. Battery life depends on kernel you use.
2. It depends how much you are used to sense base ROM. You can find free app in market for clock widget best is fancy widget for HTC like clock.
3. After you flash CM in recovery itself you can install google zip file from SD card. Doesnt really matter if you do after 1st reboot and go to recovery again.
4. From titanium backup just restore missing app with data. not the system data. That will save all the trouble (always do that)
5. You can checkout Gingervillian. Which is CM7+few things. So basically basically CM7 only. Otherwise check Oxygen which is bare minimum ROM if you like that and build everything on that. I think those 2 ROM are most popular.
Additional tip:- Dont forget to take Nand backup before trying any other ROM. Good luck.
Thanks for all the answers, running cm 7 now and I love it so far
Sent from my HTC Desire
thats a good idea
May i ask what bothered you with Leedroid? As longtime Defrost user i actually thought about switching to the senseless leedroid, as Gingervillain has still too many bugs and problems for me and defrost starts being pretty outdated in some things.
Hi all,
My partner has been experiencing a few issues with her 'stock' Orange branded Desire, not only being affected by calls dropping and Data being unreliable [sometimes works, sometimes doesn't], but also pretty poor battery life.
On that note, we think it may be a good idea to root her Desire and apply a custom ROM. Are there any ROMs out there which specifically target battery optimization?
I am assuming a new ROM/radio will help resolve her call/data issues, so battery is the next priority to look at.
I'm thinking CM7.0.3 is the safe bet [moreso because that's what I'm running on my Legend ] but is there a ROM out there in the Desire community known for great battery performance?
On a side note, if you can also recommend the best radio to flash [unless it's part of a ROM already] that would be cool.
Thanks in advance,
c_man
At first reducing the brigthness-level, turning off 3g/hsdpa, gps and wifi (sleep policy to "never" [settings > wireless & networks > wifi settings > press menu > advanced and set wifi sleep policy to Never; press menu and save) and only turning them on when needed will improve battery life.
A rom with a good battery life is redux:

I have installed it myself with the kernel in my sig. Especially the standby-battery-power is really impressive. IMHO all small aosp-roms like e.g. cm7, devnull, oxygen or redux will have good battery life. Furthermore, i good kernel with appropriate settings becomes important.
But final one can say, the battery life is most related how much you use your phone.
Hope, this could help you.
If your wife is used to the Desire as it is (inc. HTC Sense) then I would highly recommend LeeDroid.
Its well indexed and offers good battery life. The fact that it's based on Gingerbread (2.3.3) is a big help for battery. As far as I know Orange Desire is still on Froyo?
The big benefit with LeeDroid is that if your wife isn't as keen on trying to learn to use stock and likes HTC Sense, she will not notice any difference. It would be worth putting an ext partition on the SD card as well so she wont run out of room for apps.
I have installed 7.0.3 and my battery life drains super quick. All i have enabled is mobile network. So if you ask me.. .I would say CM 7.0.3 is not a very good batt saver.
Im using Redux at the mo
3ma drain on standby with GPS and BT enabled
ManU Havs Axi kernel undervolted with Vipermod
I found GV to be very good on battery drain too...
In all fairness you wont believe the difference in battery life between stock and a custom rom imho
Thanks for the replies so far.
@MatDrOiD - thanks, currently its between CM and Redux.
@JokerNJ - She doesn't mind having to use 'pure' Andoird, she's used my Legend on CM7.0.3 and know's its not massively different. We'll take a look at LeeDroid...
@alexander7567 - this is not what we wanted to hear. CM7.0.3 has done wonders for my Legend...

Positively or negatively!?
@MatDrOiD - you mention that you run Redux with Kernel: 2.6.35.9-Redux-SVS_BFS + ULV-Script.
Is there a recommended kernel for Leedroid and also for CM7.0.3?
This is slightly offtopic but can you supply a link on how to install/flash a kernel? I've not done this before [for my Legend].
Also what radio should I go for her Desire?
EDIT:
Doesn't matter if the radio and kernel you suggest are not the latest/greatest/cutting edge, but as long as they are stable and known for good performance, that is good enough!

Mobile network is one of THE battery killers at all. Turn it off and just turn it on, when you really need it.

I do not know a recommended kernel extra for leedroid. For CM7 (or aosp-roms in general) the manu-kernel is very good:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883598
Furthermore the couttstech-kernels are very good (they can be used for sense-roms as well:
http://mirror.couttstech.com/android/index.php?dir=bravo/kernel/
But i would say, search for the corresponding threads of this roms, i think you will find a good kernel.
Flashing a kernel is very easy:
1.) Download the kernel you want to flash as zip and copy the file without extracting on your sd-card
2.) Go into recovery
3.) Do a nandroid-backup, just in case.
4.) Wipe cash + dalvik-cache
5.) Flash zip rom sd-card like you would flash a rom
6.) Reboot
You are done.
I would recommend to use this radio, which is the mentionend recommended radio in the corresponding thread for the rom. E.g. for leedroid it's 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08. If there isn't mentioned any recommend radio, just use the radio which comes with the rom. Nevertheless, you are free to update to the respectively newest one:
http://www.mofirouz.com/wordpress/2011/03/htc-desire-radios/
You flash a radio like you flash a rom or kernel. But when you do this, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PHONE UNTIL IT'S FINISHED. With flashing the radio you update your desire's hardware. If there somehting goes wrong, your desire will be bricked probably. So before flashing the radio, check the md5-sum of the downloaded zip.
Thanks! I didn't know the method to flash a kernel was the same I've done radio before for my Legend so that's all good.
Now all that is left is for my partner to choose a ROM and away we go...!

You are free to choose. But this is the recommmended and most used one (also by developer).
Danke schön...!
Fingers crossed for the root [will use unrEVOked 3 - this shouldn't be a problem even though her Desire is Orange branded as I understand it - someone please correct me if I'm wrong]
You Desire guys are lucky to have so many ROMs/Kernals to choose from.
For us Legend guys the choice is almost made for us [and I sold my Desire to own a Legend ].
Another vote for LeeDroid here for the Desire. I have been using LeeDroid since I got mine and have never had a problem with my battery life at all. I can go for two days at normal usage without a charge. Even with heavy use I can go a whole day. I charge mine each night in a dock on my bedside.
Thanks FlareHeart, is that running the radio/kernal that arrive with LeeDroid too? No other mods?
Now it's up to her to decide if she wants a ASOP ROM or one based on Sense .
Hopefully we'll root tomorrow...
I used Amethyst a bit before the dev jumped ship to Nexus S. It used Coutt's kernel for it and the longest I got out of a full charge was 2 days. And that was general usage (few texts/phone calls a day, push email, Facebook/web browsing).
Using Oxygen now and I frequently get over a day and a half on general usage with thalamus's kernel.
best Rom for desire
I have used devnull then gingervillain, all vanilla roms. but without sense there is no sense!!. thus I went for insertcoin 1.0.5. which is stable, very nice. u need ext4 partition. 500 mb ok. use minitool partition wizard for Windows. everything is working fine.

What Leedroid version?
Hello!
I have been runing Cyanogenmod for a long time without problems (7.1.0).
But now I bought a bluetooth-headset (Plantronics Voyager Pro HD).
When I use it for music or podcasts it works fine, but when I use it for calling it soud like it has a bad connection.
I tried the headset with another phone (iPhone4), and it works fine.
WHat can posibly be wrong? And how can I fix it?
Aavar
I also have s-off and Alpharev recovery.
are you using the default CM7 kernel? Try using ManU 2.0 Svs kernel.... you can find in "Everything Desire" Thread in Development Section in Kernels portion...... I hope it will fix your problem....
Thank you. I will try that, but as this is my day to day phone and I need it I have a few questions
1. Is this the one you mean (ManU2.1) or does it have to be the 2.0-version? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883598
2. When I do a backup in recovery, does it also back up my kernel?
2. Do I have to wipe?
3. Do I flash it like a normal zip in recovery?
Thank you in advance!
Edit:
4. What is the difference between the different downloads?
Gingerbread-HAVS-CFS ----------------
Gingerbread-HAVS-AXI-CFS ----------------
Gingerbread-HAVS-BFS ----------------
Gingerbread-HAVS-AXI-BFS ----------------
Manu 2.1 only has HAVS version while 2.0 has havs +svs. Havs is hybrib adaptive voltage, svs is static voltage scaling, latter is more stable, former may give longer battery.
Kernel files are in system partition so they are backed up in nandroid of sysrem.
You only have to wipe dalvik cache.not full wipe. Flash kernel like a regular zip. Reboot, wait.... and you have new kernel.... try svs-cfs first..... tell me what you get ....

How to make swap ?? this swap really help ?? or maybe overlock cpu, only which settings are stable
Ok, if you want to keep a JB ROM, I think the quickest is this one for me (you have to do a full wipe and flash the ROM and the 12/12/2012 GApps).
A lot of things could help, but it depends of the ROM.
Swap, seeder, V6Supercharger, Ext4 formating, Lagstrim.....
First you have to be sure that your ROM is fast enough and keep smooth for weeks.

maybe i have something wrong only is really slow when i switch phone on i must waiting 10 minutes to stabilize all apps etc after this time i can start using phone
The Sense 4.1 ROM will always be heavier and more laggy than AOSP one in my opinion. On the last one, the venom one seems to be the quickest one, but I didn't try it...
Have you tried the AOSP one I told you?
On the 2 first boot, IRoms can be laggy, even more if some synchro are activated and the Save and reinitialize menu.
