Rooted with unrevoked but apps do not recognize it. - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hello,
I am a DINC owner and I am working on my brother's VZW DINC2 and I am trying to gain root.
First I installed the the newest GB RUU. (His phone was stuck on stock froyo and but would not update.) It installed flawlessly.
( RUU_Vivo_W_Gingerbread_S_VERIZON_WWE_3.02.605.1_Ra dio_1.09.01.0622_NV_VZW1.92_release_202929_signed from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033922 )
Then I ran the unrevoked beta and it installed without error and then installed clockworkmod recovery from it as well.
Now after I installed Root explorer, TI, CWM, busy box and superuser but they all claim to not be able to access root? I rebooted and tried again but not dice.
I ran unrevoked beta again and it said it was already s-off. Is there a special DINC2 trick I missed? Any ideas or troubleshooting suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
-Paul
FYI: I posted this by accident in the Incredible S forum first by accident. Sorry about the double post.

Nevermind I missed some steps. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1219246 RTFM!
10 - On your phone, back track to the main menu of HBoot using the volume keys and Power button and select recovery (2nd Option). In a few seconds your will be in CWM.
11 - As long as you copied the signed zip file to the root of your sdcard, perform the following:
"Install Zip From SDCard" (5th Option)
"Choose Zip From SDCard" (2nd Option)
Select the root/su zip file (su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip)
Choose Yes and wait.
Back track to main menu and reboot
Click to collapse
An extra step that I did not have to do on my DINC... Live and learn, cheers!

[Q] lost root after last update

If you have Unrevoked 3 installed:
1. Download stock Evo Recovery image (Can't find it anywhere... EVO Stock Recovery? - xda-developers)
2. Place the file in root of SD card and reboot into HBOOT (volume down/power button)
3. Do the update that HBOOT asks (vol. up for YES)
4. Reboot
5. Once rebooted, download OTA and install (should work now)
6. Once install finishes successfully you can reinstall a custom recovery using the same method (a list of them are here: public:forever [RootWiki])
7. Once you have a custom recovery back, you will need to reinstall Superuser as an update.zip through recovery ([APP] Superuser 2.3.6.1 - Now on the Market [2010-09-05] - xda-developers)
8. Reboot and enjoy!
Well I followed the instructions and the update went through... HOWEVER I have now lost root.... Help please.
EDIT: S-OFF does appear when I boot into the bootloader...
If you have S-Off, than you have not lost root.
YOu probably just lost your recovery, and you need to reflash it.
This tutorial from tws101 worked for me (I can't post a link as a new user):
"This guide will allow you to install the new OTA 3.29.651.5 when you have clockwork installed and will guide you into re-rooting the phone afterwards. (This does NOT wipe your data)
I am sorry if someone already posted this.
Requirements
1. Froyo 2.2 version 3.26.651.6 (Stock)
2. Clockwork
3. S-OFF
Files to Download (If you have a file manager on your phone you can just direct download them with the EVOs browser)
1. OTA_Supersonic_3.29.651.5 This is the new OTA update
2. ClockworkMod recovery for EVO 4G Clockwork (I know you already have it. This is to reinstall it)
3. su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip Superuser (This is also to reinstall)
Step one
Place OTA_Supersonic_3.29.651.5 on your SD cards root folder. Power off and reboot holding Volume down. Once the bootloader is up goto recovery so clockwork loads up. Choose apply zip from sd card. Choose select zip on sd card. You will see the OTA file on the list flash it. Just wait for it to install it will reboot the phone show a progress bar reboot again they show a percentage etc it takes a few minutes.
Now you have the update installed, but the update removed clockwork and root.
Step two
Place ClockworkMod recovery for EVO 4G on your sd card root folder. Power off and reboot holding Volume down. The bootloader will scan the new will and ask you to press Volume up to install. Install it.
Now you have clockwork installed again. Please remove the clockwork file from the root of your SD card before going to step 3.
Step Three
Place su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip on the SD cards root folder. Power off and reboot holding Volume down. Once the bootloader is up goto recovery so clockwork loads up. Choose apply zip from sd card. Choose select zip on sd card. You will see the SU file on the list flash it.
Now you are updated and rerooted. (I have been told it is possible to just rerun unrevoked instead of doing step 2 and 3. I did not test that method. I am simply showing a different method.)
Update
I am now getting 53 FPS with FPS 2D"
Thanks tws101

You dont take updates once you are rooted, just flash a rooted ROM
First of all - Once you have rooted your phone - NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER do an OTA update from sprint............
Not sure what your software version is or your hBoot, but if you have 2.02 hboot and 3.30 software, then you can do it the way I did...
having said that - You have not lost root, S-Off = Root, you just lost your recovery... all you need to do is flash a new custom recovery. I use Amon_Ra, but clockwork will work as well... what ever your preferance is...
I cant find the amon_ra that I used, so here is the new CW (attachment 1) - download it - rename it to just (all CAPS except extention!!) "PC36IMG.zip" - Then save it to the root of your SD card. Also save attachment 2 to the root of your SD card.
Boot into hBoot, it will scan the SD card for the PC36IMG.zip - when it asks to do update - click yes... After update completes it will ask to reboot - click NO, then scroll down to flash the superuser app (2nd attachment), I forget what exactly it says but its some thing like "flash from SDcard" or some thing like that...
after you flash the SU.apk, then reboot and if all is good - download ROM manger and flash the Amon_Ra recovery (3rd attachment) and make a NAND backup with Amon_Ra first - cause I'll be honest - I used the CWmod first and I had a bunch of Force Close issues after I did a NAND backup with CW...
Good luck!

Im updated now :) What should I use to root my phone?

Got the phone about a week ago, I rooted it using the 1 click method here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787304
I got a message saying I should update to 3.29.651. Well I couldn't so I used this method on this site
http://www.goodandevo.net/2010/09/how-to-install-new-update-3296515-on-your-rooted-htc-evo-4g.html
1. Download the OTA update.
2. Put the downloaded .zip on your microSD card.
3. Boot into recovery mode by using Quick Boot (my preferred method) or by turning off the EVO, powering it back on while holding the volume down button, and selecting the "recovery" option from the list.
4. Select "install zip from sdcard" -> "choose zip from sdcard" and select the file from wherever you put it in step #2.
5. Wait for the installation to complete, rebooting manually if necessary.
6. Use unrevoked 3.21 to re-root your phone.
Now I am no longer rooted, so I want to reroot..
Question.. Can I use the same method I used just a few days a go? In the first link I posted?? THANKS!!
BUMPAROO!!! Just need to know if I can use the root that I posted...
Please..
THANKS!
Yes, repeat the same procedure.

[Q] Installing Gingerbread - issues

All,
Following this tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqvnLs6FOis I tried to install gingerbread on my Desire. Here are the steps I've taken.
- copied gingerbread rom onto root of sd card (renamed gingerbread.zip)
- rooted my Desire using visionary+
- installed rom manager and flashed with clockworkmod recovery
- rebooted into Recovery (comes up as Android Recovery System <3e>)
- select "apply sdcard:update.zip" - when I do this I get "failed to verify whole-file signature"
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
4eveRed
The apply update.zip is for a special name update. Try the one below it that says aplly update from sd card or something like that ( the other one that looks similar). You will go to another screen and choose gingerbread.zip
First of all as you apparently haven't idea what you are doing to your phone.. dont!
If you want to continue the reason you get this error is, that your phone is not rooted at all. Visionary is for desire hd and desire z. On desire you must use unrevoked from your computer. This will install clockwork mod recovery, so you can run custom roms.
Pretty much, the process is:
1.) Download and run UnrEVOked 3 (check out the desire index in my sig for the link). This will root and install a custom recovery.
2.) Copy the gingerbread ZIP to your SD Card somewhere, i advise against renaming it to update.zip for multiple reasons (so as to avoid confusion mainly).
3.) Select "Choose ZIP file from SDCard to flash" (it is similarly to this, i cannot remember exactly the name off the top of my head).
Do not choose to "Apply update.zip", this is a different function.
Don't listen to people who tell you not to fiddle with your gear, this is the only way to learn - by experimenting. And fortunately for those of us who are willing to experiment, we have access to a large pool of experience and knowledge here at XDA.
If you have any other questions, I recommend checking out 42Turkey's Ultimate guide to root (the link is in the desire index as well).
Josh.
unrevoked solved the issue (eventually after installing HTC sync).

[Q] A fully n00b question on rooting (unrEVOked 3.32)

Hi all,
technically, this is a question concerning unrEVOked version to use. In Turkeys' ULTIMATE Guide to Rooting v42.1.1 everything is nicely described. However;
My concern is, there, entire procedure is described with unrEVOked 3.21 (provided in links inside post). Can I use unrEVOked 3.32 from HERE? Or should I use explicitly 3.21 version?
Thanks in advance,
jukyO
Depends on your phone. For some people 3.21 does the job, and have issues with the latest one. If you have PVT4, then you should go with the latest, if 1/3 Then go with 3.21.
Also if you have PVT4, then AmonRA is recommended over CWM.

Thanks for answering quickly.
My phone is PVT4 with erasesize 20000.
If I understood correctly, unrEVOked comes with CWM recovery built-in, or? How to "load" AmonRa, if CWM is inside unrEVOked?
Download this:
http://files.androidspin.com/downloads.php?dir=amon_ra/RECOVERY/&file=recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.0.img
Start unrEVOked but before connecting your phone go to File and choose 'Custom Recovery' and select the file you just downloaded. Then continue as normal and it'll use AmonRA instead of CWM (which yes, comes with unrEVOked)

If I understood correctly:
0. put "recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.0.img" to root of SD card
1. reflash and root with unrEVOked
2. boot the phone with vol - --> Choose "Custom Recovery"-->select "recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.0.img"
3. after step 2., it is possible to backup and restore with AmonRa, correct?
Is it OK like that or did I missed some step(s)?
Thanks for helping,
-jukyO
No...
1. Start unrEVOked
2. Choose custom Recovery and select the AmonRA file
3. Connect phone and let it run
That's it. Nothing on the SD card

Great! So this one covers my question. Thanks everyone for helping out!
However, one more thing to clarify concerning this image:
in Root Guide - Pt. 3 - Flashing Your First ROM it says:
3) Use the TRACKBALL to scroll down to where it says Backup or Nandroid or Backup / Restore. Then select Backup and wait for it to finish.
Now we need to wipe your phone. Whenever you flash a different ROM you should Always do this, when you are updating the ROM you should check on the release thread for information.
4) If you are not on the Main Menu in recovery, hit back a couple of times to get there. Then, use the TRACKBALL to navigate down to 'Wipe Data / Factory Reset' and accept the scary warning to wipe your phone.
Now we can flash the ROM! Ensure you have downloaded a ROM and it is on the root (Not in any folders) of your SD card. The flashing process may take a few minutes.
5) From the Main Menu, scroll down to and select Install zip from SD Card and then select Choose zip from SD Card then select where you put your ROM and wait for it to complete. Then, select Reboot System Now to reboot into your shiny new ROM!

Since this is written for original unrEVOked with CWM inside, is the procedure same (or similar) for phones having AmonRa recovery instead CWM? Any instructions available?
EDIT: got it. Its pretty plain simple from AmonRa Recovery.
Thanks,

Do you mean you can't install clockworkmod, or that you're having trouble using it to flash the rom? To install Clockworkmod, just use this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032212
Run the app and install custom recovery, then reboot the phone. The first time you reboot, the custom BootMenu will display. Use the volume buttons to navigate the menu and the power button to select an option. Select Boot > Set Default > Normal > Go Back > Reboot System. After the phone has fully booted up, power it off and reboot again. If the custom recovery installed properly, a blue LED on the phone should briefly light up each time the phone reboots (while the Motorola logo is being displayed).
To use the recovery, turn off USB debugging on the phone (Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging), then power off the phone. Press the power button to turn the phone on again, and as soon as the blue LED lights up, press the volume down button. The custom BootMenu will display. Select Recovery > Custom Recovery.
Thanks it makes more sense now i'll give it ago tonight. Very much appreciated
Glad I could help. Let me know if you need further assistance.
I do ive got further..ive done
Root your DEFY and Install BOOTMENU - CWM (2ndInit-Installer 2.0.apk - install 1.0.7) or use this SndInitDefy_2.0.apk
CM7/9 and MIUI user can start with step 2
2. REBOOT
3. run 2nd-init (voldown on blue LED)
4. Go to "Recovery"
5. Go to "Latest or Stable or Custom Recovery"
6. "wipe data and cache"
7. Go to "Backup and Restore"
8. Go to "Advance Restore"
9. Select "MS2Ginger3.0"
Once i select Ms2Ginger3.0 its coming up with :
Clockworkmod recovery v2.5.1.8
Checking MD5 sums...
MD5 Mismatch!
Then nothing else. Ive had a look on the forums but i cant find a solution. Ive formatted the SD card as fat32. Ive re-downloaded the file. Do I need to do something else before with my factory 2.2 defy?
Any help would be great
Cheers
Baker0
Did you unzip the "MS2Ginger3.0-RTM.zip" file? You have to unzip that file and put the "nandroid.md5" and "system.ext3.tar" files on your SD card in clockworkmod/backup/MS2Ginger. (The "MS2Ginger-Greenbread.zip" file should NOT be unzipped, however, and should be in the root of the SD card.)
If you did that correctly and you're still getting an MD5 mismatch error, try checking the MD5 sum yourself using an app like AFV (Android File Verifier), which is available free on the android market. (Open AFV and browse to the md5sum file, long-press it, and select “md5sum –c Type Check”.) Does AFV show a mismatch too?
ahh i didnt unzip. I dont do that with the hd2
Next step... Sorry I feel like a complete n00bie
All im getting now is system.img not found skipping restore of /system/.
Both files nandroid.md5" and "system.ext3.tar are in the folder....
Thank you
You need newer CWM, backup format changed recently. I'm typing from a phone, can't give you more directions now.

Yeah, that might be the problem. Download this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=787176&d=1321653982
Don't unzip it; just put it on the root of your SD card. Then boot into custom recovery, select Install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard, and install it. That will update your recovery to the latest version.
