HTC Customer Service - Desire General

Before you start reading this post, note that is a rant on HTC's terrible service.
I bought a HTC Desire in April 2010 and it has been a brilliant phone. In April 2011 I bought a Samsung Galaxy S II and decided to give my Desire to my sister. Since the buttons weren't as responsive any more I decided to get it repaired by HTC first.
In late April 2011 a collection was arranged with HTC and the phone went off. Just under 2 weeks later it was due to be delivered to my place of work so I mentioned this to the receptionists who later called me telling me that there was a UPS guy downstairs asking for a Kayleigh Glover. I went down to investigate and found out that it was my phone but HTC had changed the name for some reason.
They explained that it was probably a copy and paste error and corrected this. Unfortunately the buttons weren't still as responsive so off it went to HTC again (the collection was with the correct name). It came back to my place of work just under 2 weeks later again with the name Kayleigh Glover. It was just by chance that I saw the courier by the door as I was leaving for the day and asked if he had a package from HTC. When I asked them about it they could not explain why this had been done or who had done it. Surely they have some sort of logging in place which records changes to accounts and support tickets? Or maybe they just opted to keep their Customer Service onshore and decided to employ monkeys to cut the costs? Maybe monkeys is a bit harsh... overgrown apes maybe?
The phone still wasn't fixed and off it went again but this time I was getting a refurbished model. A week later this arrived and it was scratched everywhere with the paint scraped off in places. Is this what HTC call a refurbished model? Surely refurbished items are actually meant to be refurbished and not just put in a box and sent out to the next Muppet... which in this case happened to be me. My original Desire was in better condition and I had had that for a year. The Customer Service asked me to send photos and out of curiosity I asked him whether he had my old phone to compare the damage to. To my surprise he actually said "hmm, you have a good point there... I hadn't thought of that".
For all the inconveniece HTC offered me £30 of accessories, but I have had the phone for a year and have spare batteries, desk stands and docks, car cradles and chargers etc. I do not need any more accessories.
I am getting really ****ed off with HTC at this point and demand that instead of another refurbished Desire or £30 worth of accessories, I want a refurbished Desire S. After a week of hearing nothing, I got a call saying that they could offer me this and a collection was arranged. I made sure everyone knew that I was meant to be getting a Desire S, and I even went as far as putting a note in the package mentioning this.
Come to today, when UPS just delivered my phone. Guess what... it is another Desire and this time the plastic camera cover from the back is missing from the case. Good quality refurbished Desire S... either HTC employees cannot see, let alone read, or my original assumption with regards to the overgrown apes still stands.
Are HTC just taking the **** or are they incompetent? Whilst all this was going on, I had to constantly call HTC for updates and you could never speak to the person you originally spoke to as they were either busy or were off on holiday. I was promised multiple calls backs which never happened. I was made promises by various employees with no results. I have lost count of how many different people I spoke to.
I think now I want a new Desire S, and I want it by the end of this week. I don't care who they have to ask or what they have to do, but I want it this week and it better be what I am expecting.

XDA IIs Warranty repair via HTC... Possible???

I've been looking at the following site, from searching around on this forum...
http://www.htceurope.com/Wizard.aspx
Filled in all the details, IMEI, Serial Number, etc... and its coming up registered as a 9090, when I try select MDAIII or MV2000, it Always defaults back to 9090...
SO... this is what puzzles me... surely if HTC dont do O2 repairs, why would they have the mobile on the 'warranty' list, as I tried my old Smartphone on there (which is way out of warranty) and it says there is no valid warranty for this phone!
Basically, the TFT is cracked to hell, BUT i can still use the phone using MobiControl software, and it makes/recieves calls just fine!
Would it be worth filling in the Warranty form, or just giving HTC a call on Monday (tomorrow)???
I got the phone for free of my brother who works in a phone store, with a smashed screen, was originally a demo phone, so only has 15 hours outgoing calls logged only & no incoming, in A1 condition, no scratches, all accessories, MINT!
If HTC decide not to repair it, or they do at a charge, how much would it be for...
HTC to carry out the repair if they add a surcharge (as stated on there site)
Other individual to eith ersupply a screen for me to fit, or fix it for me??
Cheers
Paul
I sent off my phone to HTC (uk) cause some friend sat on my mdaIII and cracked the screen (just the touchscreen.. not the LCD).
This happened 1 month after i got my phone.. (just my luck i guess).. Anyway they said screens aint in warranty, and they charged £90 (GPB) plus VAT (£105.75). I had 2 options.. pay it.. or pay 15 pounds to return.. so i took option 1..
Note tho.. it took em ages! i called 1000 times for status.. and they were saying waiting for parts and stuff... BULL****.. in the end and 3 months of waiting.. they said they had to replace the motherboard cause the screen wasnt compatible.. what a load of bull**** lol.. they gave me another phone.. different serial, IMEI and everything.. but 3 months of waiting was HELL..
hmmmm well if thats what there like, I doubt I will get them to sort it then...
Rang HTC before, but is just an answerphone service, pointless & crap!
Had a quote for £165 inc. labour & such so far from Apex Laptops, so gona shop around & see if I can get it cheaper! But a little birdy told me... that the XDA IIs screens are very hard to come by, as seems to be a common fault them going?? dont know much about it tbh!
Cheers

HTC won't touch o2 stuff from experience despite the commonality between models / parts accross the brands - I tried to get a screen done in an XDA exec and they wouldn't as they claimed they coudln't guarentee to have the screen that matched my board (see previous poster )so I think they stick to the brands they have a repair contract with, even though I could quote the part number needed!
o2's own XDA helpline quoted £165 for the exec, HTC had quoted £115 for the 'm5000' so were cheaper :-(
I ended up getting one direct from Taipei for about £100 and fitting it myself.
If you source the b.a part yourself make sure you check the part number ( sony or toppoly) before ordering from anywhere, most places have a 'no returns' policy.
Richard
I had a little accident with mine on Sunday. It fell out of my pocket and down 4 or 5 stairs in a carpark. The side cracked off on one of the sliders, so its come off its runners and the screen and unit are two separate pieces! However oddly enough the screen isn't cracked at all!
I'd sell it, but insurance is providing a new one tomorrow and I need to give this one back.

[Q] AT&T/Asurion insurance claim replacements?

My Tilt2 has developed a problem with the mic, very scratchy sounds, muffled sounding, pretty much useless as a phone without Bluetooth. Been paying the insurance on it since I got it more than a year ago.
According to at&t I'll be eligible for upgrades in Oct, but I'm wondering what a claim on the insurance would get me for the $50 deductible right now. Are they replacing Tilt2s with something else these days? Is it a choice or do they just pick something? I'd be happy with something in an Android phone maybe but I saw one thread here where someone said they got an HTC Surround to replace a Tilt2. I'm mostly running Xdandroid now so a Surround does not seem like a good replacement option if they stick me without a choice.
So, has anyone recently done an insurance claim on a Tilt2 and what did it get replaced with?
No one? Does anyone know a better place to ask the question maybe? Or should I just call in to Asurion and see what they have to say about it?
Best to just call, but they do have a site to file a claim. I used it to check what asurion was shipping as a replacement. However this was over a year ago, I don't know if this is true for AT&T.

from my experience, as I've lost phones in the past; i found it easy to call them, tell the the phone is lost, and then ask what the replacement options are.
If your not satisfied with the options, you can always opt not to use the insurance...citing the fact that the deductible ($50) is too high in your opinion, and that you will just use an old phone until you can upgrade....... OR just happen to find your lost phone...
let me know what they present as options... i have a tilt 2 that is malfunctioning too!
kinda new at this thing, so i hope i'm replying correctly...anyways.
cliffs notes: they offered LG Quantum, HTC Surround, HTC freestyle, crappy blackberry. I ended up stringing them out for a week, and then they screwed up, and to make up for their mistake, they sent me a samsung focus. If you want the whole story, read on....
I ended up having mine replaced through asurion. I called them, they offered me in order:
-LG Quantum (they claim it is the most comparable, i kinda tend to agree after all my researching)
-HTC Surround
and if i wanted something different...
htc freestyle
or an old crappy blackberry (i didn't even write down the number)
I asked about the Samsung Focus, and was told that it wasn't available anymore, and that they were replacing the Focus with the LG Quantum. To this i was sincerely disappointed, because the focus seems to be the WP7 leader...
Anyways. I told them i needed to research the phones to decide. I dragged my feet for a week and called back, and finally got through to a supervisor, who told me that the max capacity of the TILT2 was a 16 GB microSD card. I was trying to argue that the Surround and Quantum didn't offer expandable memory like my tilt 2 did. After going over everything with him, he still wouldn't allow any other options.
I called back the next day, and decided just to get the Quantum.... I went through the process, and hung up....and waited for my confirmation email....that never came! I checked again the next morning, and still nothing!!! I called back, and spoke with another C/S agent who told me that my claim had never been completed!!! I was upset, and very disappointed.... I told he all about the process, and how i had wanted a focus, but was getting stuck with this.... and she was like, hold on. Let me see if that is available.... I'll have to get approval from my supervisor. So i'm on hold for a few mins...and she says YES! So i ended up getting the focus the next day, and so far its pretty sweet. Definitely a significant learning curve with WP7!!
So bottom line, i got a focus, and i'm happy cause i didn't have to renew my contract...
Thanks very much for the info! Too bad they don't seem to have an Android phone in the mix, and I'm not really sold on WP7 yet. In a perfect world they'd let me have a nice shiny new SGII and maybe a nice pony. At least now I can research a little. Thanks again.
Last offer from asurion was either a Status, or an LG quantum. Well they offered an HTC Freestyle but that hardly counts. I ended up spending $50 for the Samsung galaxy S II on a black Friday special. I guess this means I am done with the Rhodium, and I already miss that keyboard.

Anyone lost their money from them?
I actually bought twice from them in the past but this time it's been more than 2 weeks and my order still shows New. A friend told me that his order is still new after 40 days. I know they will ship it at some point in time, maybe 2-3 months but I was actually thinking to cancel the order. On the other hand it's about 100EU cheaper than anyone else. All those issues with HOX also made me cool down and add a plus on those thoughts and I'm also making thoughts for SG3.
I know, all review sites on Internet have them very low rated (one star) but still they are by far the cheapest.
Any of you guys lost his money from them?
I didn't personnally buy from them but when i was planning to i did a little a search and found that it's really not recommended, some product arrive very late others never.
Yeah, when I saw those reviews I just didn't care anymore... I'd rather pay 100€ more and actually receive the product than to pay less and get burned...
Now th big concern is if you cancel or not. I've seen that most people who lost their money is when they attempted to cancel orders or claiming funds. That gives them the chance to "confuse" things and keep your money while not sendingany product. Here's the question: to cancel or not to cancel?
I'm a gambler so, I'll take my chances and play heads or tail. I'll give some more days though but in the meantime I recommend that noone uses them. I guess that some people, like myself, don't learn from our past mistakes.

in our country they sell the HOX 700 euros so they are poushing us to buy throu ather countrys

I ordered an HTC Desire HD from them last year. It was taking ages and I cancelled the order. They only cancelled it after 2 weeks chasing them about the cancellation. Finally, after a couple of weeks and tons of emails and threats I got a refund. They have awful support and I do not recommend ordering from them.
Not to mention that the product comes from Hong Kong, so you will need to contact HTC to check if they cover warranty.
I bought my LG Optimus 2x from them, it took ages to arrive but it did in the end. It was a hell of a lot cheaper than everyone else too. Heard some bad things about them so I probably wouldn't use them again though.

I bought 2 cameras from them till date and they both arrived in time as described. The 2 purchases were a year apart. The second camera though had a European battery charger. Apart from the above I haven't had to use warranty on either indicating the items must be genuine.
Mind it - for whatever good or bad reason, I hadn't researched anywhere before buying from them. Had I known about their reviews, I would not have bought from them.
My friend recently purchased ipad2 from them but cancelled it before they despatched and got refunded without any hassle.
Don't know what to advice you but hope the above experiences shared help.

Not worth the trouble!
Just come across this post and thought I'd share my experience (to back up the thousands of others you can find on the net) about how ridiculous SimplyElectronics are as a company and to avoid them if you care for your sanity.
I placed an order for a Galaxy Nexus on 30/06/12, enticed by the low price and 'expect delivery in 2-4 days' advertisement. After 6 days of the order being stuck at 'New' (which I found out means that they haven't even processed the order, it means they have accepted your offer of purchase, which means that they take the money out of your bank, and then do nothing for a while) and after sending a few emails asking why my order hadn't been processed even though the Live Stock Report said there were plenty in stock, I decided to cancel my order on 5/06/12. They asked me why, I explained that I needed the phone as I work offshore and was going away, and had ordered it elsewhere from a more efficient company. They said they understood my decision and my refund request had been passed to the relevant department. I left it for a few days. Then when 10 days later the money hadn't been returned I started emailing them again. I have now been sending emails daily asking for my refund, yet 24 days after cancelling my order I'm still receiving apologetic emails saying they're trying their hardest.
I guess the short version of my warning to others is this is not a company you should conduct business unless you have the patience of a God. I know from looking around other sites I'm not the only one who has been a victim of their incompetence. I'm sure they have 10's of satisfied customers all around the globe, I just wish I'd done more reading first. If you can find the product elsewhere that costs slightly more than they are selling them for, pay the extra, it will save you alot of time.

becouse i think about possible problems with the device
I've posted on Facebook, Google + and anywhere else I could think of after my recent attempt to get a One X from them.
Web showed stock, blurb said dispatched & delivered in 3 to 8 days. Took my money immediately and then the problems started.
Used Barclaycard fraud department to get my money back while I fought SE for a refund. 13th May to today spookily enough to get my refund.
God knows how many calls & emails...
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!
And if you already have, use your card company to get your money back.
Just stop right here. If any manufacture start too sell massively obviously some phones will have problemes like 10%. If you see the most popular phones have problemes.
I've got mine and its a model ht23 without any problemes its the first hox I have and the only.
And with expansys you will have internacional warranty for 2years and houses for support on your country. Trust in expansys!

I did indeed NerdGuy, sorry! But working with Simply Electronics the months just seem to blend into each other it takes that long. I was told today that my refund will be with me within 7 days, I'm neither holding my breath nor stopping the daily emails, after 27 days of asking I fail to believe they'll pull their finger out any time soon.
I learnt the hard way also over a month to get my 500$ back. Since then anything expensive I buy in person regardless if it's $100 cheaper online.

My 10th replacement phone.

Ok,
I just to share my pain with you guys. I keep reading you guys on the HOX update thread. I reckon by the time I get a phone without fault, it'll come with Jellybean straight out of the box.
I'm with Carphone Warehouse.
They are brilliant at arranging a swap. But, not so good at sending me a working phone it seems. I'll spare you the details about the issues, but they have all been genuine.
Spoke to a manager today, who said to send the phone to their office, and they will have a look at it. And they will inspect my replacement before they send it out.
However, I'm on the second month of my new contract now, and it's basically 2 months without the phone I ordered. I don't see the point in kicking off over the phone, as most of the time, they don't really have the authority to do much. Plus, it's no good for the blood pressure if you end up arguing with a jerk.
Far better to take your time and write a letter to head office, spelling out all the issues, the timeline and what you want as a resolution. And then sleep on it. Edit it, and sleep on it again before sending it.
If you were me, what would you ask them for? (apart from a working phone, but hopefully that is in the bag if they truly are going to inspect it)
I don't mind stupid comments as long as you give a sensible one as well. I could do with some light relief.
If you were me, what would you ask them for?
a galaxy s3 and be done with it, flawless first time
oh and it being a better phone will be a bonus to
it took me 3 one x's to get a decent one, gave that to the missus and got a gs3, its a much better phone
Your 2 months line rental back at a minimum

If you just want a phone ask if you can swap for a gs3(I had this option and didn't go for it because I don't find the gs3 better than the one x). If you still want a one x, let then let you pick it up in-store, maybe let you into the store room and puck the box personally. Even say if you can get the one x+ for free when it comes out

I would wonder why I wouldn't ask for a different phone after the third or fourth time.

Yes, they did offer me the SG3.
I don't like the screen. Nor the dialler. Or the design.
As for why I different ask for a different phone.
Kind of like those situations where you're waiting for a bus. And you've been waiting that long, you could have walked, but didn't, because you knew the next one would be here in a minute.
I've spoken to them, and if they don't send me out a working phone, without flaws, then I will be getting an SG3.
(but then, whose to say I won't have the same issues with the SG3!! I might just be one of those really unlucky SOB's...)
I mean, given probability, you would have thought that by the 8th one, I would have got a working one.
What I don't want to do, is end up over on the SG3 forum, with the same title, except it saying
My 10th replacement SG3.
And 4 months into my contract.
Yes, you're right. Definitely the 2 months line rental.
You have my sympathy, it took me 4 replacements on the 3 network to get a usable phone and I thought I had it bad, you're doing well not to lose it, sounds like Carphone Warehoue are being decent at least with swapping them out each time rather than a repair.
Then again, with 3 i'm still on 1.28 with bugs galore so it's still not 100%. I would definitely be asking for the 2 months back as you haven't had the benefit of the service you're paying for. I really would have thought HTC would have these problems sorted by now, I'm very surprised.
I would probably at this point even ask for a refund, hold out a month or two and maybe either try again or opt for another phone if something else you fancied came along.
If they are going to check out the new replacement first, maybe give them this chance and then consider your options. Good luck!
@Op,
10 new replacements in 2 months does make me think your story is crap, that's how I see it.

I'd have gone through two. Maybe three. But ten? Unless there was a bad run and CPW got all of them the odds of getting that many defective devices in a row are astronomical. Early in the launch when the One X was at its worst the "perfect vs. non-perfect poll" showed 70% declared perfect by their owners. Out of ten that's seven that were fault free. OP, you seem to have bad karma with the One X. I'd suggest not tempting the gods any longer and finding a substitute.
I also say total crap,
Carphone warehouse wouldn't even replace it 10 times, they would have offered a different phone or scrapped the contract long before now.
I've had one HOX, (release day 5th april)
The one I'm using now is the same phone, it's faultless.
Oh, and I got it from Carphone Warehouse.

So true :good:
Op hasn't mentioned what the "fault or flaw" is that he has experienced. Utter Bull crap if you ask me.
I feel so sorry for htc...because of these people that send their phones back for a creaking screen or flashing lcd's bla bla bla. It is breaking htc to the point of needing a bail-out from the Taiwanese Banks!
I've owned my One X since May and experienced all of the bugs that have been discussed in these forums but I never gave up on her, she's been wonderful to me. Luckily I don't have any hardware defects and accept that she is what she is a hot & sexy and occasionally sometimes difficult to be with. But I love my One X to the end.
Sorry for the rant but really come on 10 returns?? Why didn't you switch service providers after the 3rd return? And next time tell us what flaw's you were experiencing other wise we'll just think you're talking utter crap...end
Well I have just received my fifth replacement (First four because of GPS issues), and this one I found, to my dismay, has a faulty touch screen. I.e. the top third of the screen doesn't register any touch, and I can't drag notification bar down, or search for apps in Play Store etc etc.
This one was FROM HTC.... ugh
Wow 10 replacements does sound bad indeed. Maybe you are just to picky, or they keep sending you the same phone
i got mine since it came out. The only problem with it is the creacking on the left side. It does seem annoying sometimes but not enough to start bugging htc or complain about sh*t quality. I love my phone as it is. Theres nothing perfect in this world

Yea mine also seems to have that issue and the light leak at the bottom on a black screen, but it's not enough for me to send it back. I only had one issue with the phone after I got it and that was a faulty SIM card, but my Service provider, MTN Just swapped it the next day. I love my phone and am running JB ROM now. it makes all the difference. 10 swaps seems like a picky user or you must have been a terrible person in your previous life.

Well just so you know HTC/retailers/carriers dont just keep the returned phones. They resell them to other customers in different manners depending on how honest the party is. HTC is having financial problems because people just dont buy their phones to begin with. I just started working at a phone store and the people there push the SGS3 like crazy and customers just ask about IP4S )
And just because you like the ideal design/ concept/ the brand doesnt make the messy production acceptable. Idk about other major Android phone releases, but I've seen so many people who had to swap A COUPLE OF times just to get a decent one. That was a bit shocking. And I've seen people who claimed to have a perfect handset in the beginning now have issues with the wifi-antenna. SO just a reminder for those of you HTC police, before chastising the disgruntled customers, think about karma. Your perfect phones may be the next one in the line to be sent back to customer service and I'll be eagerly waiting for the story about your experience with HTC repair, especially those you that live in the UK.
PS: Just to say preemptively that Im not a Samsung/ Apple/ Sony fan boy. HTC is still my most favourite Android manufacturer but that doesnt mean I need to suck up to their horrendous quality control.
i call bull **** 10 phones u are either the unluckiest person alive or your trolling
Please, I wanna c a picture of ur face. Please.

@ averygagaanroid I totally agree with you.
My personal experience with htc thus far has been exceptional and the three gorgeous phone's I've owned from them in the last 5-6 years have been a Hero, Desire and One X and yes a have found bugs but I was patient enough and now I still have these perfect working phone's now.
I only hope that htc pull's through these hard times and comes out stronger because I will be buying my next phone from htc in the next 18 months.
What network are you working for?

Shattered Screen - Shattered confidence in HTC

To cut a long story short I smashed my screen (doh!)
Checked XDADev's for info and broadly got the message I was looking at £80 - 100 for the repair based on others experiences... rang HTC the guy said based on previous repairs and that it was just the gorilla glass I was looking at around £100. Also found somewhere else that would do it for £85 in 48 hrs but thought it best to keep warranty intact and go through 'official channels'.
Sent it off and received my quote today (2 days later)... £150!!! The quote states it's just the glass they are replacing and the cost of the part is £99. Tried ringing them and arguing the toss but just got some guy who, whilst very nice, just kept avoiding my question and feeding me bull****. Now I'm in the situation where if I don't accept the quote they will still charge me £30 just for looking at it and send it back so I can then get repaired elsewhere, So I'm going to accept the quote because I want it back asap.
This has left a really bad taste in my mouth and left me with a VERY negative view of HTC.
Just thought I'd share my story for the benefit of others who may be stupid enough (like me!) in the future to break their screens...
:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
my condolences - you'll manage it
That's why if you want to get the best after sales support, you always buy iPhone. Although, the screen is pretty expensive and getting it repaired from official channels will always cost significantly more.
Don't accept it. I've gave this advice before but mail HTC ceo and complain. It's outrageous etc etc. See what happens

When I spoke to HTC Australia, I asked if my warranty would still remain after they repaired the screen, they said no... so I just did it myself.
You might want to double check whether they'll honour your warranty!

Thanx mate... I did ask that when I first called.. it was the main reason I went down the HTC route as I found somewhere else that would have done it much quicker and cheaper too!

Just argue with them and complain that the Gorilla Glass has shattered too easily, you're very disappointed, have been a long standing HTC customer and never had any problems with previous phones etc... refuse to accept the quote and ask to speak with their manager. When I smashed mine, less than 2 weeks into ownership, I was quoted 150 quid as well ($300 SGD). After a few phone calls they dropped the price down to 75 quid ($150 SGD). It took a couple of days more to get the phone back, but it was worth it. The warranty remained intact too as I have since sent the phone in for repair when the speaker stopped working and there was a dead zone on the screen, it was repaired free of charge.
