Hi all
I'm having a problem with receiving duplicate text messages on my evo. I searched around the forums to see if anybody else was reporting the same problem and I didn't find any threads that seemed to match my issue, though it's possible i've missed some (The search on this site, i've found, is not particularly good).
Please note that this is NOT a notification problem where i'm getting notifications from Handcent and the Stock app. This is literally two identical text messages appearing in HandCent (and stock when I look at it), usually one right after the other.
I have an Evo 4G running EvolvedRom 2.3.3 from June (with the update released in July installed), using Handcent for texts (latest updates). I'd say it started happening about a month ago, although it could be longer, and has been progressively getting worse as time goes by. It's at the point now where 90% of the messages I receive are duplicated, including MMS.
The phones sending the messages include other Evos, Epic 4G, Android phones on Verizon, iPhones on AT&T, featurephones, and I think a blackberry (not sure carrier). Good Voice texts that forward to my phones SMS also duplicate.
I've tried to include as much possibly relevant information as I could think of. I'm trying to avoid having to do a hard reset, but if that's the only solution so be it.
If anybody also has this or has any ideas for a solution, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

So this isn't Dinc specific but as at least half of the problem occurs on a dinc I thought I might as well post it here.
I just recently had a problem with one of my associates where we are unable to send/receive text messages from one another. I have turned on received reports in the default messaging app and all my texts say received by the recipient.
Both of us can receive and send texts to other people and calling between us still works. I have wiped my phone, and gone with a stock Virtuous 3.2 rom and it still doesn't work. They are on a blackberry, also on Verizon if that helps.
I think this has something to do with your associates phone. My girlfriend's phone does the same thing, she won't receive messages or sometimes even calls. She has the new blackberry curve on VZW. We tried *228'ing it and that didn't help so we took it to the store, it was swapped and now it works like a charm.
It's not your phone, especially if you wiped it clean. Trust me.
So I seem to have this HUGE problem. I've noticed this first about 2 months ago. The problem is that my notification light will blink, the phone will vibrate, and a notification for a new text will play. But I go to check my texts, and nope! Nothing! So, I thought it was just whatever. But people actually were texting me and my Evo decided to just delete it for whatever reason. Now this doesn't happen for every new text, I get about 150 a day, and it will do it for around 5 new texts. It gets annoying cuz then I have to text my friends to ask if they just texted me or not since I never got it cuz my phone deleted it. Not to mention I'm trying to patch things up with someone and it doesn't help if they text me and I never reply because I never "got" it.
I can replicate this issue when I play a memory intensive game. I know I'm getting texts because I've tried sending a text from another phone, and it would light up or whatever, but I would NEVER see that text. Plants vs. Zombies can replicate it. So I've considered it to be a memory issue. Maybe my MMS receiver closes as it needs more RAM. So I've been trying to figure out how to lock everything MMS related to memory but with no luck. And yes, I've tried to use MMS apps like Handcent, GO SMS Pro etc. No luck there either. And I've tried to use AMM to bring up the priority of my MMS service, also with no luck as it just resets to hidden app.
I've had this issue on quite a few ROM's. Synergy (Nightlies, RC1, RC2-Currently Running), MikG since the beta days, the Gingerbread leak, Kingdom REVOlution. Even on Froyo! I'm getting desperate to try CM7, I really love Sense but if this issue persists, I might just try CM7, but I wanted to know, has anyone else ever had this problem? Am I just screwed!? I'm afraid to get a replacement because of no root. Any help is greatly appreciated!
I would recommend signing up for Google Voice it backs up all your texts online and because your on Sprint you dont have to change your number Another Pro is that when switching roms it will download your texts for you when you install the App from Market. I am pretty sure this will fix it because your texts will get routed through Google Voice
google.com/voice
go sms pro
To avoid this problem i would advice switching to go sms pro its faster and lighter than the htc stock sms app. ever since I switched i had no probs.
I've noticed an issue on my Galaxy Nexus (Stock Rooted 4.0.4, VZW) where randomly a text message will disappear.
I don't have any idea what is causing it and its so sporadic, it happens maybe once every 1,000 texts.
The only way I know I'm even missing a text is if I see it appear in the notification bar but not be there when I go into the messaging app (Using stock messaging) or, because I have mightytext installed, I'll see the message forwarded to my browser but I'll notice its gone from my phone.
I was able to pull a logcat after it happened most recently, so if someone thinks they would be able to decipher some information from it, let me know.
I'm posting because I'm wondering if I'm the only one seeing this issue or if others are in the same boat.
Thanks in advance and let me know if anyone would like some more info...I've been trying to nail this thing down for months now.
You're welcome to put it up on pastebin or something and post it, but I would first eliminate MightyText as the first possible problem. Uninstall it and see if it still happens.
I had the same problem when still on 4.0.2 stock, unrooted. Only ever used the stock messaging app. It happened very sporadic, with the same symptoms you described.
Messages popped up in notification bar but could be nowhere to be found in messages app.
Since upgrading to 4.0.4 it never happened again, or at least I didn't notice.
As you are on 4.0.4 already, that's probably not comforting.

Yeah, it happens so infrequently that I'm not surprised you haven't noticed it since updating, but nice to know someone else has the same issue.
Do you have mighytext installed or can we rule that out as a culprit?
Do you have any SMS Backup applications installed?
If not, I recommend the "SMS Backup +" by Jan Berkel.
Works amazing on my ICS.
Does backups of SMS, MMS and Call Logs (if you want.)
Yes, I do have that installed, but thats not really relevant to the issue I described here.
Thanks.

Sorry - I realized I never finished my train of thought. Got "distracted" as someone walked into my office.
To continue, when your texts disappear from your phone, do they also disappear from your Gmail SMS label?
As per every 1000 texts - I assume you get a TON of texts per day?
I ask - because my cousin who is a promoter also gets/sends 1000's of text messages a week, and he made a funny comment yesterday about how some of his incoming texts "vanished."
He doesn't have SMS Backup+, so I couldn't verify it for him at the time. I'm wondering if you and him have the same problems?
Regards,
var
I also have SMS Backup + installed, but not Mighty text. When a disappearing text arrived, it never even had a time to kick in, even though I'm on wifi and it's said to backup upon arrival. The text is just gone, right after the notification vanishes.
But hard to investigate as it happens really very sporadic... And yup, I get hundreds of messages each day in a developing country, where sometimes also sms are not delivered, so everybody knows and it's not that big of a problem.

I am having a problem that started a few months ago, although not when I first purchased my S9.
For some reason I started having a problem where I am not receiving all of my SMS texts. Its often MMS but also sometimes regular SMS. Its not only from iPhones. It seems to happen more when I am in bad service or the phone is off, and then when I turn it on or get service, the texts never come (although I think it may be happening in other circumstances as well - not sure).
I have been using Textra and Handcent. When I switch to the stock Samsung app, the missing messages are not there either.
I have read a lot online about people having this issue, but havent really heard anyone have an answer.
AT&T (of course) says everything is fine with the phone and the network.
I am hoping maybe some XDAers have encountered and solved this?
Thanks in advance for suggestions.
Well hate to break your bubble but AT&T is lying through their teeth about it not being their problem because it is. They're really good at doing that. On the plus side, your phone is 100% fine.

if its not in the stock app, its not your phone most likely. AT&T is historically known for lying through their teeth. Kinda shocked that they havent been forced to shut down by the FCC to be honest. They have a very pleasant and air tight outside appearance and they have accomplished some great things all while doing the right ting from time to time. They dont look so open and honest when you start reading reports on them. Funny part is that i recall reading hard copies of news bulletins about what wrongs they have committed and its not the easiest thing in the world to get that info online. Suppression tactics probably. Anyways, make a new APN and set it up with all the parameters, select it and see what happens. There are tons of threads on at&t apns spanning many device forums, and people have luck with differing, yet certain settings. Id check some of those out and make several APNs with that info. Youlll never have a problem caused by having eleventeen APNs on your device
Hi,
I've been searching for answers about this issue, but I haven't found anything for my specific problem (though I have found similar). I'm hoping someone here can help me, because it's incredibly frustrating.
I've had my OnePlus 7t for a few weeks now. I rooted it pretty much as soon as I got it. So basically, I live in a black hole with very little cell signal. I can almost never get calls inside my house, and text messages are often delayed. However, I've been texting my mom and sisters in a group MMS for years and never had this problem before. On my old phone, a Samsung Galaxy S8, same network, the texts might be delayed, but they would download automatically and still end up in the proper order of when they were sent.
Now on my OnePlus, they are ordered by when they are received. This makes it so that I only get part of a conversation on time, and the rest of it comes in several hours (sometimes many hours) later. I can't keep track of what is being discussed when I keep missing important bits. I thought at first that photos were more likely to be delayed, but it's really a toss-up as to what will come through and what won't. It only seems to be affecting the group texts, not individual ones. I should mention, they all have iPhones. I'm the only one using Android.
As far as troubleshooting, I've tried using a different default text app, I've tried using my Google Voice number instead, and I'm currently turning off MMS in favor of mass SMS to see if that will work. I don't know what other details to give really. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.
