I am having a problem that started a few months ago, although not when I first purchased my S9.
For some reason I started having a problem where I am not receiving all of my SMS texts. Its often MMS but also sometimes regular SMS. Its not only from iPhones. It seems to happen more when I am in bad service or the phone is off, and then when I turn it on or get service, the texts never come (although I think it may be happening in other circumstances as well - not sure).
I have been using Textra and Handcent. When I switch to the stock Samsung app, the missing messages are not there either.
I have read a lot online about people having this issue, but havent really heard anyone have an answer.
AT&T (of course) says everything is fine with the phone and the network.
I am hoping maybe some XDAers have encountered and solved this?
Thanks in advance for suggestions.
Well hate to break your bubble but AT&T is lying through their teeth about it not being their problem because it is. They're really good at doing that. On the plus side, your phone is 100% fine.

if its not in the stock app, its not your phone most likely. AT&T is historically known for lying through their teeth. Kinda shocked that they havent been forced to shut down by the FCC to be honest. They have a very pleasant and air tight outside appearance and they have accomplished some great things all while doing the right ting from time to time. They dont look so open and honest when you start reading reports on them. Funny part is that i recall reading hard copies of news bulletins about what wrongs they have committed and its not the easiest thing in the world to get that info online. Suppression tactics probably. Anyways, make a new APN and set it up with all the parameters, select it and see what happens. There are tons of threads on at&t apns spanning many device forums, and people have luck with differing, yet certain settings. Id check some of those out and make several APNs with that info. Youlll never have a problem caused by having eleventeen APNs on your device

Hi,
It's now for one year i have my HTC Desire (not rooted), and i have a problem with sms.
Two of the contacts i text the most reported me that they recieve my messages twice, sometimes more. One of them has a Nokia N900 and told me sometimes my messages get erased before he could read them (and it only happens with my sms) and the other one has an iphone 4.
So I think it comes from me but can't determine why, or how to stop it.
I'm using Handcent Sms (because of the annoying feature that converts sms longer than 3 or 5 in mms in the stock Messages apk).
For now i'm waiting for HTC to publish their 2.3 ROM for the desire, but it's still very boring.
I searched the web but i couldn't find any answer to my problem, so here i come to ask it to the most qualified forum i know.
Edit : I forgot to mention that for a few weeks my phone decided to randomly reboot without any obvious reason, don't know if it's related or not.
I had a similar problem, but it was my provider. Still occassionally it happens.
I'm french and my provider too. The friend with a nokia has got the same provider but never has the same issue.
But it could be.

Come to think of it, I first noticed the problem on my N72. I would also get duplicate and sometimes triplicate sms from different people. And sometimes they would get from me.
Upgraded to Nokia E65, and it still ocassionally happened.
Since then, I've changed phones to the Desire. Didn't notice it, but the first was stolen after 2 weeks, so I got a new Desire and also changed providers. Haven't noticed anything odd yet.
As long as you don't get charged for the additional incoming/outgoing sms, I wouldn't worry.
Thanks,
I have unlimited sms included in my plan so i do not worry about it (i'm more about mms unwillingly sent). It does not bother me that much, but my friends complain about it a lot, that's why i would like to find a solution.
I'd check with your provider. Give them a few "short" words. See if these things are indeed being sent multiple times. IF they are (3 mms to the same person at the same time), then the issue is in their sms handling system.
At the time I had the issue with one provider, we were getting charged for both incoming and outgoing sms/mms. in otherwords, we were getting ripped off occassionally.
But now incoming is free.
EDIT: I suppose your Sent/recieved notfications are set to ON? Keep an eye on them, and see if you get 2 or 3 of the same notifications.
Has anyone had this problem? It happens between my phone and an iPhone and seems completely random.
I've been missing at least one text every single day and there seems to be no pattern between them. It just looks like random texts.
Never had this problem on T-Mobile and there are similar stories all over the internet about this issue on Verizon, but no solutions? >:{

Use ghost sms
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.sineo.android.GhostSMS
See if it's you or if they aren't even getting to your phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I had the same problem before. I used to receive some of my texts on my iphone which was activated before I owned my Galaxy Nexus.. What I did was factory reset my iPhone to erase all of my previous services that I had while my phone was activated and put it on Airplane mode.
Ok I tried Ghost SMS, that didn't help. I factory reset a billion times and tried different ROMS, problem still persists. This is infuriating. I've missed a couple of important texts already more than once and it is simply unacceptable.
Can I possibly get out of my contract for a problem like this?
Did you call Verizon and talk to them about the issue? If you contact them and they can't fix the issue then yes you should be able to get out of your contract, but only after you have exhausted every possible step with Verizon first.
Used the search feature in this forum and google'd the net and haven't seen an issue like this yet.
I got two G3's last week.
My wife will try to send a text to several people that we know that have old style "Dumb" phones (Including my work phone) and either:
1. The dumb phone receives a blank message from her
2. The dumb phone receives a message of about 9 characters
Called Sprint and the Tech person first said that she had personally received messages from friends to her personal dumb phone, that were sent from other types of smart phones that were blank as well. But she said that it turned out to be whatever alternate keyboard that they had installed and that the stock keyboard would send fine. After a few tests she eventually said they would call us back when they figured out the problem within the next few days.
My wife didn't install anything but a task killer on the phone (I uninstalled it after reading a few posts here). She is running stock everything and sending to other smartphones works like normal.
Have already tried a workaround by telling people that she texts to buy smartphones but I don't think that's going to work out.
What could this be? Any ideas would be appreciated.
Hi,
I've been searching for answers about this issue, but I haven't found anything for my specific problem (though I have found similar). I'm hoping someone here can help me, because it's incredibly frustrating.
I've had my OnePlus 7t for a few weeks now. I rooted it pretty much as soon as I got it. So basically, I live in a black hole with very little cell signal. I can almost never get calls inside my house, and text messages are often delayed. However, I've been texting my mom and sisters in a group MMS for years and never had this problem before. On my old phone, a Samsung Galaxy S8, same network, the texts might be delayed, but they would download automatically and still end up in the proper order of when they were sent.
Now on my OnePlus, they are ordered by when they are received. This makes it so that I only get part of a conversation on time, and the rest of it comes in several hours (sometimes many hours) later. I can't keep track of what is being discussed when I keep missing important bits. I thought at first that photos were more likely to be delayed, but it's really a toss-up as to what will come through and what won't. It only seems to be affecting the group texts, not individual ones. I should mention, they all have iPhones. I'm the only one using Android.
As far as troubleshooting, I've tried using a different default text app, I've tried using my Google Voice number instead, and I'm currently turning off MMS in favor of mass SMS to see if that will work. I don't know what other details to give really. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.
I use the default Samsung text app because I want to use Chat texting (the only other option I know of is Google and it doesn't work with the Chat messages imported from my previous phone, so doesn't show them). I have had a large number of regular SMS/MMS texts to non-Chat people give me an error of not being able to be sent, usually a couple of minutes later with an error notification but occasionally with a pop-up immediately upon sending that says it will be sent when the service is available. I've also noticed lately that people's Chat texting dots turn off very often even if I'm sitting in the same place I saw them on shortly before, and most of the time flipping Airplane Mode on and off again fixes it (and I'll see a Google notification about backing up X number of contacts, with X being the number of dots that turned off [usually two since if the one I tapped on turned off, I'll check another to see if it is me or that person]).
Anyone else have this problem? I also have a problem, as I said in the reception thread, with the cell reception bars going from full to no service in a second, for a second or two, and go back to full bars. This is on T-mobile US. I feel like it worsened after the update a day or two ago, but I might be wrong about that. It is really ridiculous, though!
I'm Tmobile too. Same issues. It's definitely a tmobile issue.
Using Google Messages on T-Mobile and none of these issues.
my wife's zflip3 on at&t using google messages has been doing this the last few days.
when she got home from work this evening I checked and her rcs settings were stuck on 'connecting'. I did the airplane mode, clear carrier services data, messages data, and then turned off airplane mode. then went to messages and verified phone number in chat settings, and its been working since ( a few hours now). I will see how it goes when she goes to work again tomorrow. strange that it just happened out of the blue though. I think there was a carrier services update in the last day or two, so that may have caused it.
I'm in the UK and have been having issues with chat messages getting stuck on sending and not receiving, have also had issues with other notifications being very delayed not sure if Google play services update had caused it. It seems alright again at the moment
Similar issues with AT&T in the the US, they have issues with their RCS Profile. Unfortunately carriers are usually trash.

Did you use iPhone before you use fold 3? if so, I think you need to disable iMessage on iPhone first.

Nope, unfortunately it is not that. There are common issues with RCS and AT&T
My speculation is that it is related to their 1.0 RCS Profile and their 5G coverage in the area, as it often confuses the antennas if there is 5G or not in the area
Now, I am using Android/Google Messages as it has a much better feature set than Samsung's default

Unfortunately, Google Messages isn't an option for me because I need to be able to refer to old texts imported from my previous phone, and Google Messages isn't able to read (show) old RCS texts from Samsung (my previous phone was the S7 Edge).
I'm guessing the issue might improve if they fix the signal issue, which has also dropped a couple of calls.

That is interesting, for me it was able to port other messages when I switched from previous devices (S21 plus, iPhone 11 Pro Max), it just has them as SMS rather than as chat.

Lucky. At first I thought it had deleted some of my conversations, but then I saw them lower in the list because it thought their last texts were a lot earlier in time since it wasn't showing a lot of the texts. This included some important people to me, so I had to switch back to the Samsung text app, where thankfully they all appeared again.
