Hello to everyone
Today I S-offed my Desire with Revolutionary. It worked fine so far.
But I have some questions about the CWM Recovery.
I use to to nandroid-BUs with Rom Manager...well, the only reason is, I can choose a "title" of the BU instead of having that date-phrase.
After using Revolutionary I flashed cwm 4.0.1.4 with fastboot and that cmd-command from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694
So far so good...if I start the cwm manually (with Vol- and Power pushed) cwm 4.0.1.4 starts (nice blue theme btw). If I choose the option to boot recovery within Rom Manager, I get into 2.5.0.7! Btw...Rom Manager also says, 2.5.0.7 is installed - so where is the 4.0.1.4-Version? I was looking at the cwm-Website, and when I choose Desire I only can download 2.5.0.7 either!
Could I get problems having somehow both version on my Desire? For example when I make a BU with Rom Manager (2.5.0.7) and recover it with manual Recovery (4.0.1.4)?
Well, the question is, why now both versions are available on my desire?! Should I better go back to 2.5.0.7? If so - how can I go back? Using the same way like flashing 4.0.1.4 with fastboot?
Sorry for these noob-questions...but I really didn't found any other post with that...well, call it "cwm-recovery-combination"!
Thx to anyone that could answer / help me!
One more question ...Usually I flash Custom Rom Stock-Versions (for example: Insertcoin 1.1.1 Stock)...is it now possible to use also CM7-Version just because I have S-off now? Or do I need to make further changes?

Hi,
Recently I turned my Wildfire S-Off with AlphaRevX. After Rooting with SuperOneClick I tried to install CWM 2.5.0.7 with Rom-Manager.
Rom-Manager itself told me everything went right. I tried to boot to Recovery, BUT:
Just got a Red Punctuation mark and after pressing Vol Up it said "Command not found in /Recovery/ "
Is this a known problem?
I think I can try to flash CWM via fastboot, but i'm not sure if I should do that.
The big question is: Are there any known problems with CWM 2.5.0.7 and HBOOT 1.01.00002 (don't know, but I think thats my version) after flashing via Fastboot?
Will it be possible to use Rom-Manager to install Roms?
Thx
BBsan
The same here.
How are you trying to access Recovery Mode? If you use the conventional Vol Down + Power, it will not work, and, as such, can only be accessed when you select Reboot into Recovery from within ROM Manager.
Anyway, Getting CWM from ROM Manager is more like a "temporary / secondary" way to get it. It is recommended to use Fastboot to write a Recovery directly to the NAND. Using it will not have any issues (Did it personally).
Lastly, your HBoot will be 6.01, after using AlphaRev X. There will be no issues using v2.5.0.7. The problem is, you will not be able to install Gingerbread ROMs, and, if you install v3.x.x.x, you will not be able to install Sense Froyo ROMs and Radios. Hence, the recommended technique is to Flash a Clockworkmod 3.x via Fastboot (ie in your NAND), and, Flash Clockworkmod again, but via ROM Manager to get 2.x. So, you have both,
Okay thx alot, I'll try tonight.
What Version does unrevoked flash by default?
I've got a second wildfire with old HBOOT and was able to flash CM7 without any problems via Rom-Manager.
Interesting.. Though I personally keep ROM Managers CWM as a Secondary one, more so, because one needs both 2.x and 3.x these days.
ROM Manager flashes 2.5.0.7 by default, although you can change it if you need to.
Hmm okay So I'll try and post if I succeeded
EDIT:
OK everything now worked fine THX for help!
EDIT2:
I was able to install CM 7 with 2.5.0.7!
Hi, Iam new here; this forum helped me alot!
So, I started w/ Wildfire, official froyo (hboot 1.001), got S-OFF via alpharevX and rooted using GingerBreak 1.20. Everything was working fine, I had cyanogenmod 7.0.3 istalled for a while.
Then I moved back to stock with "RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed", clockwork got replaced with default recovery - understandable (alpharev beta is still there, hboot wasnt replaced!). Now Id like to install OC kernel (0130_kernel_overclock_jacob_2.6.32_v1), I have the original froyo rooted, but ROM Manager wont install clockwork recovery anymore (tried 2.5 and 3 versions), I always boot into stock recovery (red triangle and ! thingy).
How to reflash it to clockwork recovery? Thanks
Use Fastboot. Refer either guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680
http://joel5121.blogspot.com/2011/06/wildfire-22-root-tutorial.html (Refer the part called "Clockwork Recovery")
You can get the required files from the first thread I linked above, its in the attachment called win-tools.
thanks, got it.
Ive also find the blogspot guide, but files were no longer available
Hi guys i hope that someone can help me!
I have a problem with ClockworkMod 3.2.0.0 because when I go into recovery from hboot ClockworkMod opens but when I select "install zip from sd card" only the background remains with the hat and I do not select the files in the sd.
Even when I select "power down" the phone is switched on and still remains on the screen with the hat.
How about pressing power button when on the hat icon and then pressing trackpad . Try them and you will know.

I had not thought!! Thanks very much mate!!
Hello guys!
I have exactly the opposite problem.
I rooted and s-off my phone following these instructions:
baert.ulyssis.be/ 2010/ 10/ 13/ wildpuzzle-rom-for-htc-wildfire/
(sorry for spaces, but the forum doesn't allow me to psot the link otherwise).
Then I installed SuperUser and then ROM Manager, in order to flash a new ROM. Then ROM-Manager "told" that my CWM Recovery 3.0.0.6 was incompatible or something like that and it should automatically download and flash Recovery 2.5.0.7. I allowed it to download the new Recovery and proceeded with installing my ROM (WildPuzzleROM_2.2.1 v0.8) successfully.
Every time I needed to access Recovery 2.5.0.7, I just open ROM-Manager and chose "Reboot into Recovery", and it always rebooted into Recovery 2.5.0.7. But today I tried to access Recovery by rebooting and holding down volume button. And it loaded Recovery 3.0.0.6. I turned off the phone, re-opened it, went to ROM-Manager and chose again "Reboot into Recovery" and it loaded Recovery 2.5.0.7.
So apparently my phone has two versions of Recovery. It loads version 3.0.0.6 when I reboot with the volume button and it loads version 2.5.0.7 through ROM-Manager. And I need ONLY Recovery 2.5.0.7, because the other version crashes (error message: "Amend Scripting is deprecated by Google in Cupcake...etc etc") every time I tried to flash new ROMs and I read somewhere in the forums that this happens because of the 3.x version of Recovery.
So here comes my question: How do I remove Recovery 3.0.0.6 and keep ONLY 2.5.0.7 ?
Thank you all very much, beforehand!
You can do so by using fastboot to manualy flash the old recovery using the command "fastboot flash recovery <path to recovery>recovery.img". If you do not now how to use fastboot, you have to search the forum a bit (can't give you any links as I'm using the xda app).
But for your problem: it is all normal. ROM Manager launches indeed some kind of temporary recovery, which is stored on your sdcard.
But you better rethink about downgrading your recovery: there is a reason why people we are now on v4 of clockworkmod some bugs are fixed (for example, now you can charge your phone when its off - isn't possible with any version of CWM lower then v3) and the menu is better, with more and handy options. The only reason why we keep using the old CWM is because of its ability to flash "old" zipfiles.
So in my opion, it is not worthet to downgrade CWM. You gain much more with the new one, and it is really no effort to flash your "old" zip files with the use of ROM Manager.

Obviously you were right on the part that I should actually upgrade my CWM Recovery instead of downgrading it. And the main reason for this, proved to be that my former version had a charging bug. If I charged the phone while switched off, it wouldn't switch on, unless I removed the battery.
Anyway, I followed your advise and flashed Clockwork 4.0.1.4.110720. But the charging problem was still there, so I tried several versions of CWM, till I finally found that for my case Clockworkmod Recovery v3.2.0.0 was the best option.

Device: HTC Wildfire (Buzz PVT SHIP S-OFF HBOOT 6.01.1022)
ROM: WildPuzzleROM 2.2.1 v0.8
Recovery: Clockworkmod Recovery v3.2.0.0
I would like to switch to another recovery without switching ROM nor HBOOT.
I would like to use PB99IMG.zip file
with 2 files inside
android-info.txt - the same as in all cases
and
recovery.img from recovery i wish to flash
Inspiartion from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408936
file structure and android-info.txt from here:
www.4ext.net/PB99IMG.zip
I have not tried that method so i ask.
THE QUESTIONS:
Is it possible to do it as described?
Is it a safe way?
Is it a right way?
Will I be able to switch between recoveries that way or just update versions?
4EXT Recovery Touch is a nice peace but I would recommend using the classic version until the final version gets finished, but if you feel up to it... than go for it. I had a go myself and it worked fine.
I dont think you should have any trouble switching between recoveries and keep the rom and hboot I did it a few times myself. The best thing to do is to do a nandroid backup with the recovery you have than switch to the new recovery and if for some reason your rom gets messed up (cause you never know) you can still switch back to the old recovery and restore the rom. (as long as you have the backup of the rom on the sd card you should be fine)
Thank you for your answer.
4EXT Recovery Touch was just an example. Question is this type of PB99IMG.zip file is the proper solution?
You can either flash a zipped version of the recovery via your old recovery, or flash the recovery image (.img) via fastboot (s off needed).
The method you describe, is flashing via hboot. You need to place that zip on the root of your sd and enter the hboot menu
I remember 4ext has an application which flashes the recovery for you, though you need root for it.

I used android flasher to flash 4EXT recovery. Easy to use. More info can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638
Sorry if this is wrong place to ask...
What do other recoveries offer that's better? I don't even remember which one I'm using, s-off'd and root with revolutionary some time ago so I think it's theirs.
Looking at the thread that inspired the thread starter, the obvious is the touch capability, but other than that seems to offer same functions. Is it maybe more reliable/faster?
Thanks for all!

I used 4EXT due to the fact that instead of scrolling up and down with trackpad/volume buttons (CWM), 4EXT ui is touch, easier to navigate.
Why 4ext?!
4Ext furthermore offers a lot of new functions:
- USB unbrick
- Partition SD card
- Check Alignment

I used 4EXT Recovery Control from the Market to switch to 4EXT, if you just wanna test I'd suggest the free 4EXT Recovery Updater (Get both from http://www.4ext.net/)
Actually, I got no place to post my question. So, I thought of starting a new thread.
I have installed CyanogenMod 7 on my HTC buzz by downgrading its stock rom as it suffered a OTA update before. I guess you guys r well aware about the process.
During the downgrade, my phone got Revolutionary CWM 4.x.x.x by default. In fact, I have flashed CM7 using revolutionary.
Now, CM7 comes with ROM Manager built-in and I tried to install CWM 5.0.2.0 recovery right form the GUI. The update.zip was downloaded. I could update it manually form my recovery options.
But, it was not stable. Each time I boot into recovery, Revolutionary CWM shows up, instead of CWM 5.0.2.0. To use it again, I have update the package each and every time.
Is is quite normal? Or, I am missing something? Plz help with advice.:crying:
I did this via Rom manager. Not through Recovery.

Yes this is normal for ROM manager as using ROM manager is only giving you a temp recovery over your stock ( in your case revolutionary cwm ) to get the cwm 5.0.2.0 you want you need to get either a PC49IMG.zip version of the cwm and use the boot loader method, use ADB/Fast boot method or use the terminal emulator method.
Tutorials are all over the wildfire thread and so are the necessary files etc.

That what u have to flash is temporary.
For permanent recovery, copy the recovery onto your pc.
Turn on the willy in hboot mode, goto fastboot connect usb
Type fastboot flash recovery name.zip
here name is the name of recovery zip AS IT IS.
