how do I un-partition a sd card? running a rom and was just showing b not telling me how much space i have left or anything. was not even telling me how much internal memory i had on phone.
Reformat it through your computer. You will of course lose all data, so make a backup first.
Edit: If it wont tell you how much internal phone memory you have then the problem may not be the card.

If you're using amonRA v2.3, boot into recovery and select 'partition sdcard'. When prompted, enter 0 for SWAP, 0 for ext2 and the rest of FAT. When the process is complete, you will have one primary partition. NOTE: This procedure will erase EVERYTHING on your SD card so back up its contents BEFORE starting this procedure.

Would tell me how much memory I had before I partitioned the sdcard.

I am trying to figure out how to remove the ext partition on my sd card. I am using Amon_RA 1.8. I do not see the partition when I plug in my phone as "Disk Drive", but my 8gb sd is showing up as 6.2gb total storage. I still have more than half of it available, but I am trying to backup and re-format the sd.
Thanks.

in recovery select partition or something like that, then set swap and ext3 to 0mb. this will remove those partitions, will also wipe out your sd card too.

Thanks. I plan on backing up the sd and reformatting it anyway, so wiping out the data on the card isn't a problem.
Just another quick question though... If I want to start with a completely fresh card, can I just put my music folder, Ti Backup folder and zips on the freshly formatted card, or would I have to reload all the folders from before the format?
After flashing a few different ROMs, some of them install their own app folders and folders associated with some of the apps they include, that I no longer need. I don't want to remove anything that IS needed though.
Hello all, I have a 16 GB sd card (actual 14.83GB) and under Settings - SD card and Phone Storage it says that i have 7.04 GB available...basically half...
The problem is that I have nothing THAT BIG!! I copied the SD card over to my computer and it's only 852 MB...What the hell is going on?
Has anyone had this problem? or does anyone have any ideas as to how to figure out what is taking up so much space?
Help is appreciated, thank you.
Do you apps2sd or apps2ext? Also, by chance is there a folder called: LOST.DIR? Lastly, if you take the card OUT of the evo, put it into an adapter, and check free spaces on your PC what does it say? << Perhaps there's some hidden folders your PC cannot see when you just directly copy the files to your PC.
if you have downloaded a rom or somthing to it, plus music eats memory up badly, i suggest reformatting sd card.
go to settings>sd card & phone storage> unmount sd card> format
make sure you get the files you need off of it. akaics, videos, contacts, apps;etc.
If i helped, hit the thanks button!

Sounds like your card is partitioned.. move your cards over to the computer
Go into recovery
Run partition SD card
Set swap to 0mb
Partition 1 (or whatever its called: main partition ) to full amount of SD card and nothing for ext partition
Hope this was helpful!

I flashed the gingersense rom from virus and had to fallow the steps and i think when i erased my sd card. I need a fix please help.
If I have this correct, you partitioned your sdcard and its not showing its full amount of space? If that's the case you will need to go to recovery and find "wipe sd ext" then reboot. Once you get back into the phone head over to settings, then sdcard and phone storage, and format (will erase again) the card. You should have the full amount of storage back.

Hey guys just got my Galaxy Nexus for Verizon. It obv does not come with an SD card, something I am not accustomed to.
I am wondering if there is some way to maybe partition the internal memory so when doing wipes and installing roms, that partition of memory is not affected.
Thanks for any help!
Doing wipes and rom installs doesn't affect the sdcard, only the internal memory that holds the os/apps gets wiped, so there's no need to partition anything. Its only when you format the sdcard is when you lose everything on it.

I think he's asking if there is a way to make the internal memory set up to have a portion of it look like an external ad card... ie splitting the partition one says internal memory the second would be fake sdcard memory

If virtual sdcard had its own partition it would theoretically then be possible to treat it as a real usb mass storage device like a real sdcard.

Well I have a new version of CWM Mod, and apparently when you format the sd-card, it no longer formats the inner sd card but your external sd card. I was really pissed as I lost all my data I had saved, but it also managed to screw up my sd card. Neither of my computers recognize my SD Card and I have no idea how I can go about restoring it. My phone can detect the sd card but it will say its corrupt randomly. So I'm guessing CWM formatted the card in a really screwed up way. Any suggestions brahs?
I'll even try to mount the sd card on CWM but it wont be able to mount it. It's a shame to waste a 32 gig sd card like this
Have you tried to format through the phone storage? Menu/settings/storage/format

Only gives me the option to mount or unmount the SD card
How old is the SD card? This phone is know for eating up the 32 GB cards. I had one for less than 3 weeks and it did the same. I use trwp but there is a thread about cards and our misfortunes with the 32 GB.

Make sure you card is not in exfat. CWM will not read cards in exfat, I had the same problem. If it is you are going to need to format it to fat 32. Most 32gigs sd cards and higher come in exfat now. You are most likey going to have to do it on the computer also it cant be done from CWM.

Yes but my computer won't even detect the SD Card. It was fine and dandy up until yesterday when I hit format on CWM on the SD Card thinking I was formatting the internal storage (since it's labelled /sdcard) but it formatted the actual SD. Windows won't detect my Micro SD and neither will my Mac. However if I put the SD card into my phone and connect via USB, it shows up.

You pressed format /sdcard, and it formatted your extsd? That's a pretty serious bug, so thanks for the heads up. What version of CWM are you running?
Op. I did the same thing a long time ago. I have gotten into the habbit of removing the sd card when I am formatting with a custom recovery. I also back up the sd to my pc and reformat the sd when changing roms. A bit off topic but I also wipe system before flashing a new rom. So far I have avoided many of the issues mentioned day after day. Maybe I am lucky but my wierd habits have been successful so far.

Did you manage to fix the problem though? Not to be rude but I'm looking for solutions towards this specific situation, not advice on what to do next time :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

5.8 something. It's weird because it allows for both internal and external SD use. When you backup the first open is to save to external then its internal. First version of CWM i've ever used with such an option.
For anyone wondering about a solution, I used an android 2.3 device which actually has a format option for the SD card and now my computers recognize it again. Life is good
