[Q] Flashing Wildfire S with WCDMA 850MHz-compatible ROM - HTC Wildfire S

I think I may know the answer to this, but before I throw the phone against the wall, I'll first check with you guys.
I have a Wildfire S running 2.2.3 with HTC Sense. The phone is SIM unlocked as it was bought outright, S-ON. It is the version incompatible with WCDMA 850MHz and I need it to work with WCDMA 850MHz (Australian Telstra NextG network).
Since S-OFF has not been achieved via software and for all intents and purposes the phone can't be rooted, is it possible to reflash the phone with a WCDMA 850MHz compatible ROM (I know such exists, for one Telstra branded ROM is compatible but I believe there is also a HTC debranded version)?
If yes, where would I find such ROM and where would I find instructions for that (I've downgraded HTC Desire HD before, I know I need a Goldcard). If not, thank you for your time and answer.

as far as i know, 850mhz band is hardware function. if your phone doesn't support it via hardware out of the box, no software is going to make that work on that band.

From what I've been able to gather, the pones are identical, the difference is just in the ROM and bands they've arbitrarily chosen to disable. There are other phones with similar restrictions in place and it can be fixed by software.
Thanks for posting, tho.

Stylen, if you've bought a non telstra phone, it will work work on the 2100 but not on the next g 850. Unless it has the required hardware then no amount of flashing will help.

$850 starting bid... $950 buyout?!? :-o
Are Rogers and AT&T using 850 UMTS or 2G 850? Reason I ask is that AFAIK the Telstra handset is 850Mhz UMTS but not 850Mhz GSM/GPRS/EDGE.
Plus, Telstras handsets have a faulty GPS (I suspect radio) which should be fixed soon but until then, it is virtually unusable.
...and they only have 12 month warranty

Based on the picture from eBay from the back of the box it says:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 Mhz
HSPA/WCDMA: 850/2100 Mhz

Wow, a G is pretty steep for a half-assed solution when the N1 is almost half that. A G for a fully assed 850/1900 version would still be pretty steep. You'd have to want bragging rights pretty badly to pull the trigger on that.
850Mhz ??? has it been downgraded?? as the desire has 1Ghz... very iffy

[Q] European Desire HD in USA

Hi everyone,
I bought my Desire HD in europe and i have RCMix Custom ROM on it.
This smmer im going to the USA and i was wondering Is my phone going to work on all USA Mobile carriers like Verizon, AT&T and others ?
as long as your phone is unlocked, then why not!
You probably want to double check the DHDs supported frequency bands with that of the US networks.
I'm sure the HTC Inspire is the US version of the DHD that has US carrier support.
From the HTC Spec List:

The next step is for you to check the frequencies used by the US networks (I'm not doing everything for you!!!*) and compare to this list.
I know Verizon still uses 800MHz in some areas (not supported).
*@Andy, I'm nice but I'm not THAT nice!

[Q] Desire Z: Can I switch to N. American 3G Bands?

OK...the Desire Z only supports 900 and 2100 MHz which is European and Asian 3G bands. Is there any way that it can be made to operate on any North American 3G bands (like 850, 1700/2100, or 1900) or the issue is entirely hardware related, in which case nothing can be done. I should note that the phone has already been upgraded to 2.3.3 so the rooting options are rather limited.
Any contribution will be highly appreciated!!!
Its hardware limited to the bands you have. My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) is that with that device (if it is unlocked) you will be able to use a T-mobile SIM to get 3G in the US. I'm not 100% sure with this though, as I don't think the DZ has 1700mhz which is needed for T-mobile.
You don't have the correct bands for AT&T 3G. There is a Canadian version of the DZ that will work on AT&T in the US on 850/1900, however.
The device is completely unlocked and unbranded but its specifications clearly state that its 3G frequencies are 900 and 2100.T-Mobile's 3G is 1700/2100 (together) and it's different from the European 2100. Unless the North American bands can be activated via a secret menu, or by flashing a different radio (impossible with 2.3.4), the phone, as is, can't connect to American 3G networks...only GSM 850 and 1900.
So, a miraculous secret menu appears to be my only hope, which, of course, is impossible to implement if the hardware doesn't support it!
Thanks for your concern!
Well, with you phone, you can use only half of tmo's 3g service since they reserve one band for uploads and the other band for downloads. So technically you kinda get 3g, but just 1 way.

I'm afraid that i can't do that either because the TMO's 2100 3G frequency spectrum is not the same as the European one!
I think I'll exchange it with a friend's European Nexus S which is tri-band 3G and, besides 900 and 2100, it supports TMO's 1700/2100 band! It is an excellent phone but I slightly prefer the metal and the weight of the Desire Z despite the fact that I do not particularly care about the physical keyboard!
Thanks anyway guys!

yea. i think mputtr brought up the correct point. The way T-mo uses 3G is 1700 and 2100 separately for down/up, so like you said its different than the Euro 2100 spectrum.
Sorry it didn't work out.

[Q] Changing GSM Band Lock

Hi Guys,
Well, this is my first time posting here, so hello to you all!
Anyway, down to my problem. I have a Desire Z A7272 running on the Australian Telstra network. I just bought a new sim card today that is Next G activated.
I have a few problems which I am hoping to solve by asking you experts First of all note that the Telstra Next G network runs on the 850mHz bandwidth, which I believe my phone does not support. Seeming as I live in regional Australia, this is undesiarable because although 21000mHz is supported and available, Telstra only runs it in the metro area, where it doesn't reach me.
I was searching the net for a couple of days until I found a forum where it explained how to lock the GSM bands. I can't link it as I have lost the page. What I did was dial *#*#4643#*#* and change the network lock to "United States". This was because in the US they don't have the 900mHz band they use the 850mHz band and I was hoping to get my phone to use the 850mHz band.
Now to my 2 problems.
1. When I locked the phone to the 850mHz band, it seems that I can't access *#*#4643#*#* anymore. I type the number in, and nothing opens. I was wondering how to fix this so I could set it up to "Automatic" again.
2. I was wondering if there is anyway hardware or software wise to be able to access and use the 850mHz network. If you could link or quote some reliable/trusted sources that would be excellent. I will take unknown sources but will do with caution, I don't want to break my 2 week old phone.
Thanks guys, sorry for the essay.
Haash.
EDIT: Please note that my phone is running Android 2.3.3 with HTC Sense 2.1.
Your phone is only capable of accessing whatever bands your hardware is designed to. I don't know the specs for your Desire Z, but if the bands you want are not listed in the hardware specs, you will NEVER get them. You would need to investigate whether there is a desire z model built to run on the gsm spectrum you need.
For example, here in the US, Tmobile and AT&T phones can be unlocked to use on each other's EDGE network. But no magic code can ever give them the hardware needed to run each other's 3G network.

Thanks, now all I need to do is get my *#*#4643#*#* working again so I can change it back to the 21000mHz network that I can use.
For anyone wondering:
Europe:
HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Asia Pacific:
HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
BUT, for the Tmobile G2 (American version)
GSM:
850, 900, 1800, 1900
UMTS:
1700/2100, 2100
Thanks, does anyone know how to unlock *#*#4643#*#*?

It could possibly be that the code you're using isn't correct. I believe it is *#*#4636#*#*

International HTC ONE M8 in Canada

My cousin just moved from Asia to Canada and wanted to use his HTC One M8 on wind
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_(m8)-6074.php
based on the my information wind needs 1700/2100 bands for 3g but dose that mean the phone would need both? It seems to have the 2100 band but not the 1700 band. Is this a software restriction that I can get around by flashing the t-mobile firmware? Is the phone having just the 2100 band enough?
Thanks for any help in advance

Yeah, that will work on Wind with no issues. AWS (something you probably saw when checking on Google) means 1700/2100, and that is something that Wind supports.
