Finally decided to get a T-Mobile US TP2
Q0. Other than the looks, what else is different between the International Unbranded HTC TP2 and the US T-Mobile TP2
Q1. I've been told the US 3G bands are different from the Asian / UK 3G bands. The Asian bands if I'm not mistaken are "HSDPA 900 / 2100". Can anybody cite the US bands? Also I know that 2100 is common for both US and UK... will that be enough to use 3G in Asia?
Q2. Obviously I would need to get the phone SIM unlocked. For once I couldn't find anthing on XDA to unlock the TP2. Any light on that would be great
Q3. I noticed that Hard-SPL is now available for TP2. I'm assuming that means I can flash it with any ROM. Would doing that automatically unlock the phone to be used with any SIM?
Need answers to these real fast guys... got a good deal on eBay.

Oh man... that sux. I was really hoping that atleast one of the T-mobile bands would be compatible with the Asian 3G bands. Do you have any idea what bands T-Mobile operates on?

Note the 2100 band is part of AWS which means it's not compatible with Asia 2100. T-Mobile 3G requires both 1700 and 2100 to operate. One band is upload and one is download.

OK...the Desire Z only supports 900 and 2100 MHz which is European and Asian 3G bands. Is there any way that it can be made to operate on any North American 3G bands (like 850, 1700/2100, or 1900) or the issue is entirely hardware related, in which case nothing can be done. I should note that the phone has already been upgraded to 2.3.3 so the rooting options are rather limited.

Its hardware limited to the bands you have. My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) is that with that device (if it is unlocked) you will be able to use a T-mobile SIM to get 3G in the US. I'm not 100% sure with this though, as I don't think the DZ has 1700mhz which is needed for T-mobile.
You don't have the correct bands for AT&T 3G. There is a Canadian version of the DZ that will work on AT&T in the US on 850/1900, however.
The device is completely unlocked and unbranded but its specifications clearly state that its 3G frequencies are 900 and 2100.T-Mobile's 3G is 1700/2100 (together) and it's different from the European 2100. Unless the North American bands can be activated via a secret menu, or by flashing a different radio (impossible with 2.3.4), the phone, as is, can't connect to American 3G networks...only GSM 850 and 1900.
So, a miraculous secret menu appears to be my only hope, which, of course, is impossible to implement if the hardware doesn't support it!

Well, with you phone, you can use only half of tmo's 3g service since they reserve one band for uploads and the other band for downloads. So technically you kinda get 3g, but just 1 way.

I'm afraid that i can't do that either because the TMO's 2100 3G frequency spectrum is not the same as the European one!
I think I'll exchange it with a friend's European Nexus S which is tri-band 3G and, besides 900 and 2100, it supports TMO's 1700/2100 band! It is an excellent phone but I slightly prefer the metal and the weight of the Desire Z despite the fact that I do not particularly care about the physical keyboard!

yea. i think mputtr brought up the correct point. The way T-mo uses 3G is 1700 and 2100 separately for down/up, so like you said its different than the Euro 2100 spectrum.

Can anyone confirm for sure and tested the following question:
How many bands for GSM, HSDPA and LTE does the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 (M919) have? Are they the same bands as the International S4 LTE (I9505)?
Based on the wikipedia page for Samsung Galaxy S4, the model I9505 has more LTE bands than the T-Mobile M919 version, is that completely true and technically proven?
Most of the websites state that the M919 and the I9505 has the same bands for all GSM, HSDPA and LTE.
I appreciate if someone can lead me to the ultimate answer.

Tmobile uses AWS for 4g LTE which requires 2100/1700 frequency. The GT-i9505 only supports 2100mhz i believe, which is not enough.
I think the GT-i9505 supports one of the several frequencies that Tmobile uses for HDSPA, so HDSPA coverage may be a bit spotty with the phone. This was referenced off the top of my head, but I had done some research online about this before as I had similar questions as you.

I9505 lacks the 1700MHz LTE band which is needed in T-Mobile LTE.
That's weird, I can swear that wiki page had different information yesterday about the I9505 LTE bands

Hey so looking at the wiki that you guys posted up there it says following for the tmobile version: 700 MHz (Band 17), CLR, AWS, PCS, IMT, IMT-E
now i somehow got my hand on one of these devices in europe for rather cheap and totally new, so im confused now what these CLR, AWS, PCS, IMT, IMT-E are, does any of these stand for any other than the 700mhz band? like 1700/1800mhz? or in other words, is it possible to get lte to work in europe with the tmobile usa s4? Can the modem perhaps be flashed with an i9505 one and than get the additional bands or is the hardware actualyl that different (as in antennas and amplifiers)?
Its not really a dealbreaker for me as LTE in my country is quite some time away but still, would like to know.

In simple words, the LTE bands are (not in order): Band 1 (2100), Band 2 (1900), Band 4 (1700), Band 5 (850), Band 7 (2600), Band 17 (700), so we have the LTE bands available for the T-Mobile version: 700, 850, 1700, 1900, 2100 and 2600.

sorry for asking it again, but that basically means the tmobile version has most bands that are used enabled? just have to figure what bands are being used in my country... thanks really
edit: checked the bands here naturally its 800 and 1800, so my question remains, can i somehow flash the phone to work on these?

No, you can't flash a I9505 rom to a M919 device, if you do, you will brick it. The best option for you to get 800 and 1800 frequencies is to go for the GT-I9505, it's the Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE version, and it has the following bands for LTE Cat 3 (800 / 850 / 900 / 1,800 / 2,100 / 2,600 MHz). Yes, it seems that the I9505 has LTE bands for each region, it's not dedicated for America (North, Central and South), it also support Europe and Asia, while it doesn't contain most bands for a specific region, it's a world phone, unlucky doesn't fully support T-Mobile 4G UTMS network (1700/2100), but still a good option for those who travel to other continents.

Flashing just the modem doesn't work either?
I haven't tried flashing modems into another devices that don't correspond to their own. I can't help you with that answer at this time

i asked that because i have an att atrix, on which its possible to flash european modems without a problem, thanks for your time man, i hope someone will try this and it works
Question...are all those other things i've been hearing about other ppl successfully getting 4g reception after doing something to either with the aws band's, or to the software true? does anyone know for sure? i'm very thankful for any input, as i've been hearing so many conflicting things when it comes to the i9505 and getting 4g service with t-mobile, i just want a proven answer :/

I bought my S4 T-mobile (SGH-M919) in USA. And it is fine working in Spain with 4G. But when i have upgraded it to Marshmallow then only works with HSPA(H+) as better. Change baseband? i am not sure to do it...mmmm
Ordered this phone off of amazon thinking I was getting the standard unlocked version. Turns out I got the 2.5GHz Asian model. Is there anything I should be worried about in regards to T-Mobile compatibility?

Are you sure it's the Asian model? Both the Asian and EMEA models can connect to 2600 MHz LTE.
The Asian model can do 700 MHz LTE (unlike the EMEA model), but T-Mobile will not begin rolling out their 700 MHz network until later this year. In any case, you'd want a model that picked up AWS so you can use T-Mobile's nationwide LTE band.

Keep in mind that AWS consists of both 1700 MHz (uplink) and 2100 MHz (downlink). If you have a carrier that has either 1700 or 2100 (but not both), the phone might detect the carrier, but wouldn't be able to use it.

The D-852 supports the 1700 MHz band, but apparently not the 2100 MHz one. My understanding is that you will need both bands to use the device with Wind. Unlock the phone and try it out!

This is correct. Unlocking wont make it magically work. You may need to get the International version D855 or a TMobile Version.
i don't think it will work in wind. Since Wind is using AWS as their HSPA network(not lte) and D852 doesn't have support AWS in HSPA. So i think you might need D851(Tmobile) for wind network.

I don't think the D851/T-Mo supports 2100 MHz either (at least I did not see the band listed in the FCC test reports for the model)
