My brother recently ported his Sprint# to google voice and is now with a different carrier. Now he wants to jump on my Sprint family plan. Can I simply start a new line and request to port his GV#(former sprint#)? Does his GV# have to belong to me in order to reinstate service?

He can make his google voice number ring any other number, so he can just get a new one, and no one really needs to know the difference. (Unless I'm missing a key point)
Here's the deal. He wanted to keep his original sprint#, so he ported it to google and canceled his service with ETF waived due to the recent changes. The whole point was to get the S2 for the subsidized price. Something about he has to wait 90 days before he can return to sprint as a new customer to get the discounted phone.
Sooooo, if I were to open a new line on my family plan, I qualify for a new line discount. By porting his number on my new line which he is planning on using, shouldn't that get him a new subsidized phone(S2) with his original sprint number? Not to mention a cheaper monthly bill for everyone.

Hello. I had a question regarding how I could get the EVO. I wanted to get on a friends account so it would be cheaper for the both of us. Could I do this while still getting the 200$ pricing ? Thanks!
If one of you is off contract you could move to a family share line and get the discounton the device.
You would get the 200 price if you are adding a new line to your friends account. (Either as a second individual line, or by converting both on to one family plan.)
I am off contract. Currently with Verizon and my mother is taking over my number. So it's easy as that eh ? I will look into that, thank you.
Next question: The person I am going to be getting on a plan with lives in Austin, I live in Houston. How would we go about getting a plan together ? Do we both need to physically be at a store to set it up ?

Okay so I should just send them the money for the phone and get it shipped to me... Simple enough. Thanks.
Or... You could always have your friend call customer service or go into a local store and have him notate that he authorizes you as a user to make changes to the account. Make sure he gives your full name and requests that a manager set it as a priority note. Once he does that make sure that YOU have either the pin number or the answer to the security question and you are set to do whatever you need to do in your own local store or via telesales.
You might want to keep your phone number and port it to Sprint. Sprint has a $100 porting credit that you can get, and it'll cut the price of the phone in half. You can then call up Verizon and have them give you a new number when it's all said and done.
It's worth $100. I'm doing the same for AT&T.
I would do that except my old phone was stolen ( Touch Pro 2 ) and I am still on contract with no intent of canceling my plan yet. I had looked into that but I'd need a lot of money to cancel my Verizon plan. Too poor to do it right now.

Have you seen this in writing? Friend wants to port to Sprint, and I heard rumors about this but can't find the details anywhere.
Also, porting your number over from Verizon, terminates the verizon contract immediately. Then you get your ETF bill.
The details are here...but it says it is for business accounts only...

Just turned up three lines last week, submitted the form for each - may work, may not...regardless, it's worth a shot!
Another question... If I get the phone tomorrow, could me and my friend combine our accounts at a later time and lower the price ?
Hi Currently i'm using an iPhone4 on H20 (AT&T MVNO). But I really want to jump ship to the Galaxy Nexus, and also Walmart/Tmobile $30 100minutes/5G Data..but I have a few questions...
1. Should I go ahead and activate my Google Voice account before I receive my Galaxy Nexus? I want to have my same number.
2. In order for me to get the $30 plan, all I have to do is purchase this: http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-phone/T-Mobile-Prepaid-SIM-Activation-Kit -----&--- go here http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/ActivateCodes.aspx -----to activate?
Should I do that before my Galaxy Nexus comes in? Because I also currently have an Nexus S so I can use that phone IMEI to use if the Tmobile site ask me for it.
Do everything on your Nexus S just to get it ready. My old phone was T-Mobile Nexus S. I have the $30 plan. My Gnex came today, I popped in the sim and that was it.
If you want your old cell number as google voice number you need to port it to google voice. Which will cancel whatever cell carrier service is tied to that number. So if you're under contract you'll have to pay ETF.

Thank you so much for the quick reply!
So lets say I do everything right now including activating the tmobile plan. You suggest that I port my number over to Google Voice first, or activate the $30 plan first?
I'm so confused with this, so sorry if i'm causing any headaches...
Well google voice and activating the $30 T-Mobile plan are 2 separate things. So whatever way works for you will work.
For example, here's what I did almost a year ago. I had a verizon OG Droid phone still under contract for like another year. The Nexus S came out, and I wanted a cheaper plan and that phone. So I bought the phone from best buy, went to a T-Mobile store, and signed up for an Even More Plus Plan. I suspended my verizon plan just to make sure my new phone and carrier were a keeper.
After 2 month I used google to port my old verizon number to google voice, effectively canceling my verizon contract w/ a prorated ETF. (I did that so I don't have to deal with calling verizon and dealing with customer service crap - and to just keep my old number for the hell of it). I use a different google voice number now.
Anyway, 10 month later the $30 plan comes out for T-Mobile. So I suspend my even more plus plan, and been using the $30 plan the past month or 2 on my nexus s. Today my Gnex came, and I put took out the sim and put it in my Gnex.
I still need to call to cancel my even more plus plan, since I am happy with the $30 one. I can do all this without caring about the cell number tied to my account cause I exclusively use my google voice number for everything.
OK guys, what about the voice mail? (I didn't port yet), I have called Tmo to find out that I don't have the forward feature as a prepaid subscriber... Anyone wanna shed some light on that?
Are you saying if I port my existing number I won't have to deal with Tmo voice mail? Can anyone please write a short guide on how to do this and what feature one would expect? What are the downsides too? The most recent I found on the net was created back in 2009...
Hi guys, I'm new to this forum, but I work at a Costco Wirless Kiosk, and I have access to LOTS of those tmobile prepaid activation codes. If anyone has a tmobile sim card and wants to get the $30 plan on their own, then PM me and I'll try to get you an activation code.

In the other thread about the $30 t-mobile plan, a user indicated that you have to call T-mobile after activating and tell them that you don't want T-mobile's voicemail service.
You then simply setup Google Voice as your primary voicemail, and you'll receive it just fine, without it coming to T-mobile then forwarding to GV.

I've been to Best Buy and the Sprint store, and both say my plan needs to from my current SERO plan to upgrade and get the S3. I absolutely don't want to get rid of my SERO plan. How do I upgrade to the S3 and still keep my SERO plan? Anybody else have this problem?

I doubt the stores can handle upgrading with SERO. I bit the bullet and upgraded directly w/ Sprint. They are able to get you to keep SERO, as long as you are on SERO Premium 500.

Not sure what your question is, are they telling you that you need to switch off your SERO plan? If so, that is false, I have SERO and am using the S3. I ordered mine through telesales (with all discounts) and activated it no problem on SERO Premium.

Interesting! Which discounts are you referring to? I'm curious what you got the phone for through telesales, and if you had to pay the activation fee.
I duo not have SERO but... when i went to upgrade they told me my plan had to be updated as I wasn't on a qualifying plan..although I had everything data with chase discount... they had to call sprint and provide dealer code to process upgrade to retaIn discount..although I did get a text stating they needed proof out employment within 24 hrs

Hello. I'm actually a Sprint employee and u can in fact upgrade your phone in any corporate store. U will in fact have to change your plan because they do not give us access to those plans in store but can simply call in to care to have your SERO premium plan restored. Or going through telesales directly would in fact eliminate a need to do this although if you are not already on a premium plan you will have to make that change. But a great discount over the regular plans. Hope this helps!

You have to call *2 and tell them you want to upgrade.. anything to do with employee line you have to call a certain department. I just added a line and they took my order for the gs3
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Don't call *2, they won't know what SERO is. Call 888-876-8381, thats the SERO accounts number. You can call them and tell them you are at Best Buy and want to purchase a phone to add yo your SERO account. They should be able to do it, Assuming you are on a SERO Premium account.
Even at the Sprint Corporate store I had to call that number, they didn't have the secret codes to handle my account.
Corporate Store
I went into my local Corporate Store and walked out with my shiny, new SIII. The salesman had the codes to keep my SERO500 plan intact. No problems. And since I have the SERO plan, I paid NO activation fee. :cyclops::cyclops::cyclops:
I went to Walmart and while there I spoke to a sero customer service and they basically said to upgrade with Walmart and Walmart will change my plan over to a normal plan. I would have to then call sero customer care and they would switch it back.
Most sprint stores can't even touch the Sero plan. ( I have it as well ) You would either have to do the upgrade online or get lucky and find a store to do it and allow you to attach the phone to the plan over the phone.. The big problem is that they will have to replace the wimax code with the new LTE code.. I've upgraded two of the Sero plans in my house.. yes it can be done. Most at sprint just doesn't know how.. goodluck
it's better to have upgrade to sero premium and then going to a corporate store and having them upgrade the phone. that's what i did.. the sales rep at the store couldn't directly upgrade the phone using the computer but she called sero dept and gave them the phone serial numbers and within 10 minutes i was out of the store with my S3.
to upgrade to sero premium i emailed everythingreferral (At) sprint.com with my account info and told them i wanted to upgrade my sero to sero premium and they knew exactly what to do.
OK so heres the deal with the SERO plans, and why you can/can't upgrade in stores/3rd partys.
Sprint is very strict about not letting employees access other employees accounts. Its considered a big no no. Its not about having codes or what not...The fact is when an employee tries to open up another employee account (or one linked to an employee account, eg SERO) it simply tells them that ONLY employee accounts cant handle this type of account. Dialing a specific number is not necessary either, as previously stated. Dialing *2 from a SERO or any employee account will actually take you directly to employee accounts as the phone number is setup to do just that. If it doesn't take you to employee accounts for whatever reason and you get to a normal customer care rep, they will simply tell you they cannot access the account as it is an employee account and provide you the number. As far as upgrade? I as an employee cannot upgrade in ANY store corporate or not. May be different with SERO plans (obviously it is, because the previous posters already stated they were able to). I was highly disappointed when i went in to my local corp store Friday and couldn't walk out with a new S3. However, its Monday now, and its out for delivery (sitting patiently by door)

Seems like it is different for SERO.
I was able to walk out of a corporate store with a new S3, but only by calling the SERO number directly as I stated earlier. I was told at the store that they don't have the codes to upgrade an LTE device on SERO, hence they had me call the Sprint SERO direct number 888-876-8381. The store rep signed me up for a new account, and the person on the phone transfered it back to my old SERO account while I was still at the store. It's a roundabout way to do it but I stayed on the SERO plan and didn't have to pay the upgrade fee either.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 on Sprint and a S3 on ATT. I want to port my number from Sprint over to ATT. I still have one year left on my Sprint contract though. I was just going to let a buddy use my S2 (he pays the bill) for the remainder of the contract in my name.
Someone told me tonight that they thought if I ported my number to ATT, it would cancel my Sprint contract and they would charge me an ETF. I don't want to cancel my Sprint service, but I want my number of 12 years on my new phone.
Any input here would be great.
Optionally, I would be happy porting my number to a Google Voice account IF that would keep my Sprint from cancelling? I just want to hold onto that number.
Idk how it works out there. BUT in Canada. If you port your number out your contract is cancelled. Done and done.
There may be a way to be able to do this...
Not sure if sprint does this... but virgin here in Canada can do what's called a number swap. So if I have 2 numbers on 1 account. I can swap those numbers...
Ex...
Line 1: 1000anytime mins. #1111234567
Line 2: 200mins #2221234567
Now what virgin can do is directly switch those numbers.
So after a number swap it would look like this:
Line 1: 1000anytime mins. #2221234567
Line 2: 200mins #1111234567
Now what you could do is start a new line on the account with no contract. Swap #s then port out which in turns then cancels just that one line. Am I making sense?
Again not sure if sprint can do this or not...
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3
You can call Sprint and say "I want to port my number out to a different carrier BUT I want to keep my current line open" and they will assign you a new number for it. Even if the Sprint line gets 'cancelled' they will usually let you 'come back' for free within a few weeks and waive all fees/etc. Best bet is to goto the Sprint store or call Sprint CS and talk to them.
I have a fun question. Me and my wife have decided that $160 a month and mediocre data speeds aren't worth it anymore, so we're thinking about making the jump to AT&T which seems to have pretty good coverage and speed here in Tampa Bay. I'm out of contract, she still has a year left, but we'll be breaking hers since it'll cost us like a month of service, which we'll get right back. Her parents are on an AT&T family plan and can add us on for like $20 bucks or something insignificant like that. Even with an upgrade in the data limits, it'll still save us like $100 a month.
Now that i've wasted your time with background, here's my question. I want to port my number, but my Sprint acct is in my name and they told me the name has to match the AT&T account (under her dad's name) in order for it to go thru. And in order for me to change the Sprint acct, he would essentially have to have a COFR done (which requires a credit check, which I'm not even going to ask him to do).
Does anyone have a creative idea on how to get my number over to AT&T? Perhaps porting it to some MVNO like Ting and then getting the account changed over to one of their names? Do MVNO's run credit checks? Is a name change simple? Can you port from an MVNO to another carrier without issue? Are these all stupid questions?
Help.
Could you port to google voice then over to AT&T?

I thought about that, but since it's tied to gmail, do I have to go and change all my account info? I wonder if Google will even allow that... Also wonder how easy it is to port a number FROM Google
