Rooting 2.3.4 - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I flashed the update from pc10img and was wondering if I have to downgrade to root or is there a way to root it now?

2.3.4 isnt rootable right now. you have to use the downgrade thread in the development forum to get to 2.2 then you can root it and flash a 2.3 rom.

desire z GB OTA requirement (1.82?)

is 1.82 required before you can get/detect gingerbread OTA?
im still at 1.34 and not detecting gingerbread OTA. i can detect the 1.82
please help. using unbranded Desire Z
I think so. I've been trying to s-off from 1.7, couldn't manage it so tried upgrading to 1.8 to try one of those methods instead and it then offered me 2.42.161.2, which is Gingerbread. Either this is part of the downgrade process (I doubt it), or it's an OTA.
If you are rooted you can't ota I don't believe. But what's the point if you are? Just use a rooted version of OTA

No, you need S-OFF in order to root the evo. Which root method will depend on your version of hboot your bootloader has.

[Q] if update rooted 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 via OTA , is it still rooted ?

hi friends
as we all know , OTA update (( from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 )) remains you room on root ,
but does this way worke from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 ? i mean that if i update rooted 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 via OTA , it's still root ?!!
Yes you'll retain root doing it that way.
Regards Dousan...
e: I might ad that the 2.3.4 update is not out for OTA as of yet
Is 2.3.4 ota out yet then?

Rooting after Update?

I reverted my Droid Incredible to stock and then tried to root again. It is showing that it has Android 2.3.4 on it now and I am unable to reroot the phone. It errors out and asks if the firmware is too new. Anyone else having this issue and if so how do we root again?
Have you tried Scotty1223's method for rooting gingerbread? I'm on my phone but it's titled "root 2.3.4,downgrade,and s-off" within the general section. Otherwise I'd provide a link.

Hey, curious, which process did you use to go back to stock? I have to do that soon.
Should be able to find an .ruu, or use pb31.img to restore it
