Have you updated to the last official ROM? Visionary doesn't work with that.
There is a way to get root if you have S-OFF, search for it in the forums.

The correct section of the forum would be a good place to look. This is for development threads not cries for help.
Hi guys,
Sorry for the stupid question but I am new to those kind of things and get a bit confused.
I managed to get my HTC Wildfire S-OFF'd
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-1.01.0002
MICROP-0622
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-3.35.20.10

Can I downgrade this in order to get it rooted and If I can, could you please give me directions how to achieve that.
Thanks in advance

You need to flash a recovery(search the development thread for clockworkmod recovery)
Flash this recovery via fastboot(search the whole forum for a guide)
And then flash a ROM(or other things) of your choice via the recovery menu.
Hope this helps
Personally, I downgraded by flashing a stock 2.1 RUU, then used unrevoked 3.2 to root it and install clockworkmod.
Then just flashed a cyanogen nightly (#57). Although you can choose whatever rom you want.
I have tried with unrevoked 3 to root the phone, but at some point i got the following message:
Validation error: Backup CID is missing
any idea how to fix that?

Code:

When i flash unrevoked 2.2 after s-off and downgrade to 2.1 is had the same problem. I don't know why but unrevoked 3.14 worked fine. For me newer is not always better.

once S-OFF, downgrading and then rooting is a lengthier process. As already stated in the post #2, after S-OFF just flash a recovery from the fast boot menu and thats all ur phone is rooted.
get the PC49IMG.ZIP file and the process from here. (most painless and secure algorithm)

Buy it.
Also learn to search.
Alright. I think I'm gonna get my device S-OFF soon...
So all I have to do is
1. Flash to 2.1 RUU
2. Flash a recovery via fastboot
3. Flash a new ROM
That is all right?

If you are going for Step 2, there is no need for Step 1. Just flash a recovery via Fastboot, and you are good to go with Custom ROMs, even on the updated HBoot.

I've been reading alot about this but I don't geddit. Everyone says that with hboot 1.01.0002 you can't get s-off without using the xtc clip. Are you saying you just downgraded to Android 2.1 then flashed a custom ROM

What you have heard is false. HBoot 1.01x requires XTC Clip to get S-OFF, and, only then can it be downgraded and rooted.
Rooted ROM

If i used XTC clip to S-OFF a wildfire, is it then possible to restore a rooted ROM? Or do i need to root the phone, then when i load any ROM it is rooted, because root is at a lower level?
Is root access something which is stored in the operating system or some lower level?

Root is given by the app called Superuser. Just as in linux, every program that wants to do something that needs root rights, has to ask for it. In android that permission is "tunneld" by the superuser, which asks you if you want to grant an app root access, and then gives it to that app with your permission. But of course, the only way that superuser can grant root access, is when it is propperly installed, and has some files in the /system folder. Which is not possible without root permissions
So: if you are s-off, you can flash a recovery image trough fastboot (working with unrevoked gives you the custom recovery right away) by the adb command "flastboot flash recovery " (google for "cyanogenmod wiki flastboot" if you are planning it, it is really nice explaned). Trough that recovery you can apply some kind of an "update.zip", which installes the right superuserfiles on your system anx changes nothing else. Notice me if you want those files, I know where to find them here on xda.
From that moment on, when an app asks for root permission, you get a popup from the superuser app to ask if you really want to grant that app such permissions or not: if yes, the app has root access now!
This is all based on my experience with the stock ROM, don't know how the process works in CM or wildpuzzle.
Erwin
Edit: and if you want to delete or modify rom specific things (like htc stock app), you can connect your phone to your computer, mount your system as read/write by the command "adb remount" and then delete it trough adb commands. No need to go trough recovery for this.
Perhaps the same is possible if you have a file manager that can handle rooted phones, but not sure about that.
Hi
I have a desire i tried to root with unrevoked.
But it seems like my desire is a usb brick.
I hope the usb brick state will go away if i root it and flash with new rom.
But how do i root it when theres no usb ?
I have hbot 0.93.0001
radio-5.11.05.27
running stock android 2.29
I want root, this rom and usb working.

thx for your reply.
I got tmp root working and i installed clockwork recovery.
Perm root didnt work for me, is it possible to install a root rom then since i got clockwork innstalled ?
Or do i need permanent root for that ?

that's kind of the idea.. didn't you read the guide? you get temproot, flash recovery and then flash a rooted ROM.
From my experience I couldn't flash with a temp root I ended up rooting and s-off with alpharev had to have sync and stock drivers installed on my computer. With temp root when you reboot it disables the root so you have no root access. I will figure it out for you tomorow though no worries.

That seems logic.
Will the usb Brick state go away if do a factory reset ?

Most probably no, but you could fakeflash the .Zip of the USB brick fix recovery (listed on my guide) and use the USB brick fix function in it.

yes but when you do have temproot and superuser access you are able to flash recovery through rom manager.. just like my tried and tested guide works.
I don't know much about rooting, flashing ROMs or anything. But just have a few questions..
As the HTC WFS with S-ON can only be 'temporarily rooted' using ADB and downgrading HBOOT to bypass the RUU errors; I wanted to know what this actually means?
Is it the same as full permanent root or not?
What can I do with full root that I can't do with ADB root?
If I do temp root, what happens if I reboot my phone? Does the root permissions disappear and the system apps I've deleted return or what?

Never heard of a temp root for the Wildfire S, can you post the full guide on how to do it?
Can't help you with the difference between root and temp-root.

anyone gonna help? :/
Howdy!
I just had my phone refurbished and I wanted to root my phone. I can't root though. I've used Unrevoked and even Super One Click and they don't permanent root my desire. What in the world is going on? I can't even access the play store or YouTube anymore. Is there a way of rooting my phone so I can s-off and install a new rom?

revolutionary does not root your phone, it gives you S-OFF, therefore the ability to flash custom recoveries, radios, bootloaders etc.
S-OFF and Root are not the same. Root means that you have root (admin) access in the Android system, while with S-OFF you are able to do as mentioned above.
So OP, if you want root, you need to S-OFF with revolutionary, flash a custom recovery, and then (OPTIONAL!) flash superuzer.zip from recovery to gain root access to your stock ROM. If you flash custom firmware it already comes with root access.
