[Q] how to root a usb bricked desire - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have a desire i tried to root with unrevoked.
But it seems like my desire is a usb brick.
I hope the usb brick state will go away if i root it and flash with new rom.
But how do i root it when theres no usb ?
I have hbot 0.93.0001
radio-5.11.05.27
running stock android 2.29
I want root, this rom and usb working.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275632

thx for your reply.
I got tmp root working and i installed clockwork recovery.
Perm root didnt work for me, is it possible to install a root rom then since i got clockwork innstalled ?
Or do i need permanent root for that ?

that's kind of the idea.. didn't you read the guide? you get temproot, flash recovery and then flash a rooted ROM.

From my experience I couldn't flash with a temp root I ended up rooting and s-off with alpharev had to have sync and stock drivers installed on my computer. With temp root when you reboot it disables the root so you have no root access. I will figure it out for you tomorow though no worries.

That seems logic.
Will the usb Brick state go away if do a factory reset ?

Most probably no, but you could fakeflash the .Zip of the USB brick fix recovery (listed on my guide) and use the USB brick fix function in it.

yes but when you do have temproot and superuser access you are able to flash recovery through rom manager.. just like my tried and tested guide works.

rooting without using unrevoked ??

Has anyone tried rooting htc desire without using unrevoked ? I have an exploit which gives me root access.
So, how do I go about flashing custom recovery image and boot image ?
Further, how do I ensure that the root access is permanent ?
The reason I ask is that when I use unrevoked, the phone simply hangs after doing the pre-boot sequence.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks
Shyam
Before we had unrevoked we had to do it manually, I can see if I find it after school. To flash a custom recovery image you must install sdk on your computer and download the recovery.img and place it in the "tools" folder inside androidSDK. Then open cmd from tools and type "fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img" while the phone is in fastboot mode.

If you have root you could s-off your device. Then you could flash a recovery from fastboot.

I tried using fastboot to flash a recovery image, and I got a secure failed message.
How do I do s-off without a permanent root ? I have an exploit that gives me temporary root access.

whats your hboot? you can manually root on the earlier hboots
0.93.0001 is my hboot.
Shyam
unrEVOked works fine on that HBOOT, either a driver issue or you've got a PVT4 Desire in which case you'll need to read the other thread in General
remember to uninstall htc sync, but leave the drivers on the pc. i did that mistake once
I use a Mac and hence, no HTC sync.

Mac and Linux dont need special drivers. You need to post the errorcode when using Unrevoked.

[Q] ADB Rooting 'temp root' - some questions

I don't know much about rooting, flashing ROMs or anything. But just have a few questions..
As the HTC WFS with S-ON can only be 'temporarily rooted' using ADB and downgrading HBOOT to bypass the RUU errors; I wanted to know what this actually means?
Is it the same as full permanent root or not?
What can I do with full root that I can't do with ADB root?
If I do temp root, what happens if I reboot my phone? Does the root permissions disappear and the system apps I've deleted return or what?

[Q] help rooting! puhhhllleeeeaaassseeeee

ROK here's the story. I rooted my DINC when I first got it two years ago, well my girlfriend now wants hers rooted.
I read the wiki and all that. But everytime I try it gives me an error message after the first phone boot after trying to gain root access... error can't root is your firmware too new?
Now my steps are.
Plug phone in.
Install phone drivers. (I think this may be where i went wrong)
run unrevoked3
It does its stuff and reboots phone into hboot continues to do it's thing.
Reboots phone again.
Starts asking fir root.
Then I get the error.
Can you tell what I'm doing wrong?
Do I have to install the hboot drivers on my windows 7 machine when the phone is in hboot?
Help!
Ok first,I don't believe unrevoked supports the newest firmware update, but there are other methods...
second, if unrevoked completes successfully, try manually flashing the recovery, if that completes successfully, then make a backup and flash a new rom..
If it boots up however, try downloading superuser and install it, if it works, should be good to go

Are you s-off? If so flash cwm recovery thru hboot as a PB31IMG.zip. http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/CWM_5.0.2.0/PB31IMG.zip. Then if you can access recovery use it to flash the su binary, installing the su app does not install the binary. You can go to preferencec in the su app and try installing it from there, but it usually fails. You can get the lates flashable one here. http://dinc.does-it.net/SuperUser/SuperUser_3.0.7.zip

No. When I launch rom manager it says I need root. I'm not s-off.
My question is.. when I install the windows hboot drivers... does the phone need to be in hboot? I installed the hboot drivers when the phone was plugged in USB bur the phone was loaded into android 2.2

Root and s-off are two different things, and you dont need rom manager to access recovery. However if your s-on you dont have a custom recovery to flash things in anyways.
Yes when you install the drivers you need to be in hboot to get the correct drivers.
If you ran unrevoked and it compleeted successfully you should have root and s-off. I would make sure the drivers are right, and then run unrevoked again.

OK. Unrevoked always failed. So. Must be the hboot drivers installing incorrectly.

So when I install the hboot drivers while the phone is in hboot... do I run unrevoked when thephone is still in hboot? Or do I restart the phone?

Is there any way to get "s-off" on a device running 2.3.4? I have looked all over and tried all of the methods I have found. Is it possible to unlock & root this device or is it stuck running the stock setup?
Andriod 2.3.4
Baseband 2.15.10.07.07

[Q] Cannot get su/root access on HTC Desire bravo

I have just bought 2 HTC Desire phones 2nd hand for my wife and myself. One was already rooted, with su access and Nikez-Lente-1.0.1b2-bravo rom running very stably. The other was unlocked but branded and with a stock sense rom (not sure if if was gingerbread or ics).
So I immediately set about "rooting" the stock phone. I used Revolutionary, got s-off and installed sandvold Beta_0.18.2.1. I then installed Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed and expected to get root/su access on the phone. It was only when I tried using a2sd tool that I found I didn't have root/su access. Since then I've put the phone back to RUU and tried using unrevoked to root, but it fails everytime with a message "do you have a newer firmware?" or something like that.
I've put 4EXTRecoveryUpdater touch recovery on, installed Nikez-Lente-1.0.1b2-bravo again, installed su again, still no access. I've tried Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed, still no joy. Nothing seems to be able to put this phone into su/root mode.
And the strange thing is, both phones are on hboot 6.93.1002. So why can I not root the other phone?
I've searched the net for 2 days now and can find nothing to help. All the guides for unrevoked make it look like the simplest thing in the world to do.
What do I need to do?
Check my sig, desire all things root, s-off using revolutionary. Theres a superuser zip file there, try flash that in recovery. Where did u get that superuser zip file?

Yh i think with that site u have to download and flash the su binary aswell as the superuser.zip
download & flash this in recovery and u should be rooted

This is the SU file from the guide in my sig

Thanks for that
Tried that one, still getting "permission denied" in terminal.
Just a thought - should I downgrade the bootloader to an unrevoked compliant one?
