No loop hole. That ESN is locked until the delinquent account is paid.

can he call and switch his esn? without having to pay his whole balance?
Call in from a land line, I thinks its 800sprint1. Tell um you bought it off ebay and cant get your money back, cause your old phone broke they should let it slide. Make sure they dont know it was your friend. If the say no tell um they to help you with this cause you wont have anyway to use your phone. Worst case threaten to switch to verizon.
I used to work for sprint years ago its sad they seem to always forget that without our business they would be no where. Good luck!

That's not gonna work, ESN is locked to the delinquent account and the button to remove it is blanked out. Only a payment will allow you to go in and remove the ESN. Sad that people still think threatening to cancel will allow retention's to waive a magic wand and fix everything. You'll just get transferred to a supervisor to be told no again.

I'm sorry, you think its sad that Sprint locks esns for phones on delinquent accounts(like every other carrier out there)?
Can you imagine the abuse? Just go start a bunch of new accounts, buy phones and then let them go delinquent and sell the phones...how about not.
Whining and threatening you're going to switch isn't going to change an industry wide policy.
Correct. Industry wide. Verizon's policy as well. Pay the bill for him or something if you want it that bad.

Exactly, the ONLY way to unblock a bad esn is for you to pay the remainder on his account, or he pays it. No other way.

You say that he is "letting his account go past due," does this mean that his phone is still active?
If his phone is still active, and not yet past due to the point that his account is shut off, then do an ESN swap before his account is shut off...then when it is shut off, the other phone will be blacklisted and not the EVO.
...
As others said, there is another way. If you don't know what it is, we won't tell you.

He's past due 160 and temporarily disconnected until its paid off. So I guess there's no way around it. I wish someone would say what the "other way" is. I thought there was a way to reprogram the number yourself through ##menus. Or is that old school?

Past due $160 or 160 days? If it is just past due $160, and its a short amount of time, maybe a small or partial payment will get the phone turned back on?
What you are speaking of with the ## menus is only a part of the "other" way.
Basically, the ## is how you manually program your phone. To manually program your phone, you need the MSL (Master Subsidy Lock)...Sprint usually calls it "a six-digit code". Lets suppose that yours is 000000 (trust me it really isn't), then you will program it with ##000000#, you can manually program data with ##DATA# (you again will need your MSL.)
That portion, we can tell you on this forum. This information will not help the situation, as your ESN is blacklisted. If and when you get Sprint to lift the blacklist on the ESN, you can manually program the phone if you desire with those ## codes. (there is no real point, unless it does not correctly provision itself.)
This forum, and many others have a prohibition on instruction people how to perform ESN Cloning. Some try to whitewash it by calling it an ESN Repair, which in most cases does not make sense. I have never seen a phone that truly needed and ESN to be repaired. Out of curiosity, have any of you phone techs out there actually seen an ESN that really needed a true repair? (By true repair, I mean, NOT to get it to work on another network?)

He could call in and swap esn to an older phone. He could say "i would like to swap esn to an older phone cause EVO is broken and i dont want the $10 add on to keep adding up." He could also put his line on seasonal suspend which will look like he's trying to at least reduce his monthly bill to hopefully pay it off. He should do that anyway. It's only $8.99/mo (or somewhere in that range, can't remember exactly).

Both of your scenarios wont work. The first wont work, because THAT evo's esn is still blacklisted until the bill is paid, it doesnt matter what phone you switch your line to. And your second, same thing, even if he puts it on suspend, when he renews it, it's still blacklisted.
I agree... ESN Swapping can be risky. and once it get blacklisted thats it to my knowledge.
A lot has changed since I last worked at Sprint. Maybe that's why our site was #1 in fraud. I just did what o was told and I know i swapped a phone on an overdue account. Guess that's why I don't work their anymore. LOL.

Cant they track it?
You could sell it, but that's kinda morally objectionable.
Plus it will be flagged as having a bad ESN, so it won't be able to be activated on Sprint.

Yea But cant you still use it??
the point is you can do what you want but sprint is not going to let it be put on a line. The ESN has been blacklisted so if you want to use it as a music player or whatever you want that does not use phone service or data then yes but as a phone No.
I will buy it for forty dollars!

Once you lose a phone, Sprint places it on a lost/stolen list. If you sell it, the purchaser will not be able to activate it.
Sell on ebay and state has bad esn
I think if you only went through asurion the phone might still work. I had a phone that was lost and I did it through the website and i gave the phone to someone else when i found it and they told me that it activated. So maybe have a friend try and see if it works.

Why even ask a question like that? Once you accepted the condition to file the claim then the phone belongs to the insurance company. The only sense to this question is that you want to know if you will be in any kind trouble.

i thought the same thing too when i lost my phone in the movie theatre after it fell out of my pocket. I filed a claim and got the replacment then i was able to find my lost phone shortly after. i checked the ESN and it was still clean. i was surprised but now i have two evos. You can always call them and check if its still a valid esn.
Because I don't want to cause anyone any undo trouble. I would like to get my deductible back so I will say bad esn on eBay for $100 as another forum member sugested. Thank you for all input into this discussion.

You certainly can activate it still.
I lost my TP2 and got a new one thru insurance and then Sprint called me and told me someone turned in my lost tp2.
I reactivated my original the second I got home. I sold the new TP2. I called Sprint and they told me I was supposed to send the lost one to the insurance but it was up to me. They didn't really care.
Moral wrong..yes... doable .. yes.
if you call ausrion and get a replacement phone they send you another one out but by law or sprint policy (not sure which its to early for me to google it a few sprint employees have told me though) they cant contact sprint and flag it as bad ESN your suppose to do that yourself. So you can activate the old one if you like with 0 issues. Been their and have done it. (on accident found the missing phone like a week or 2 later) sold it to a friend and he is still using it.
There are methods to make a phone work on another carrier if it has a bad ESN on Sprint. Cricket and Metro PCS are the carriers that are most commonly used in the US. I actually bought an Evo on Craigslist a while back for a good price. It wasn't listed as lost/stolen, but it was still tied to a suspended Sprint account. I later sold it on eBay for $360 and listed it with a bad ESN and a bad headphone jack. I think the guy I sold it to was planning on using it in Mexico.
Even without activation, an Evo makes a pretty nice MID on Wifi. Just be warned that most Android devices won't connect to an ad-hoc Wifi network, so it's hard to tether it to another phone.
You could sell it for more than $100. Can't you hack it to work with VZW PRL? Maybe that'll sell for more.
Technically you could sell it to someone on metro pcs or cricket.. they dont care about esn's being blacklisted they'll activate it anyway.

The "moral" thing to do is call the insurance company, explain that you found your old phone and you would like to return the phone and get your deductible returned as well.
I would think they would go for it as they make out in the end.
And you can sleep at night knowing they won't catch on to you some day and deactivate your phone. (highly doubt that could ever happen, but I tend to have a really guilty conscience. what's a $100 anyway.....)
This is my third time losing my phone in five months. I was about to file a claim with asurion the other two times I paid right on the spot with my debit card and this times it's saying its my third time in a year and if I complete it I will lost the ERP part of my coverage. Does that mean if I ever lose my phone again I won't be able to get another? If that's so I will be very disappointed

I'm not glad about losing my phone it's horrible to go without a phone after all the rooting of a hardware 004 with that new hboot and setting it up with all the mods that I flashed makes it really depressing and on top of that I have to pay $100 every time I just payed my bill 7 days ago which is $171 with two lines. Now I have to pay another $100 and on top of that it sounds like they are saying if I lost my phone I can't get another after they send me a new one.....How can they do that it's not like people can always prevent loosing stuff :-(

The ESN's go bad what can I do with a paperweight evo? I'm sure I'm not the only person who lost a phone more than two times.....On the asurion home page it says 56% percent of people lose their phone once a month....i went almost three months without losing mines :-( they are aware that people lose stuff and don't always have control over losing stuff....
You are only covered for 3 new phones in a 12 month period. Yes if you get a new phone, you will not be covered again until a year has passed from you first claim I do believe. I am not exactly sure how the 12 month thing works, but if you call Sprint they can explain it to you, but yeah only allowed 3 phones in one year.
Oh Yeah, ever thought about installing Lookout or some other phone locator app? It can help you recover your lost or stolen phone. If I were you I would highly consider this.

Why the hell don't you put a program like lookout on it where you can remotely cause your phone to make a blaring siren noise so you can find it. It also has a gps feature where you can pinpoint your phones location and find it or who ever has it. There is also a remote wipe feature so that whoever finds your phone won't get your personal info. Lastly, you got to be a complete moron to loose a phone this big and this expensive.
3 times would indicate to them that it's equipment fraud.

I agree, the OP has NO argument here. If you lose a phone 3 times in less than 6 months, you have some problems. I would drop your coverage too if i were the insurance company. You need to learn to take care of your possesions. Insurance is supposed to be a last resort, not using it every other month.

Are you losing your phone at bars or clubs?
I only had one phone stolen and it was back when I was in high school. I went to a concert and was dancing with some random chick. The phone was on a belt clip that clipped in my pocket. By the time I realized it was gone the random chick was too. I learned my lesson from that day forward. Never dance reggaeton with a random chick while owning an expensive phone. Oh yeah and ditch the clip.
So you lose a $600 phone 3 times over a period of paying $42 for i.surance and $100 twice for replacements and you are mad at asurion? So $1800 worth of phones gone due to your irresponsibility of which youve paid $242 of and theyre the ones in the wrong?
The lack of taking responsibility here is astonishing

I was told by Sprint that I could not send any more heros in for repair or replacements due to the insurance limit even though the replacements they were sending me were complete garbage. I went as far as cancelling 2 lines and got no where with Sprint cs. It wasn't until I contacted the vice president of customer service and other CEOs that my situation was properly resolved promptly and correctly. So even though they say no if you birch to the right people they will say yes.

I highly doubt they denied him after he sent in receipts... if so he needs to try again at a different location. I've been able to get months of free service from Verizon by threatening to cancel (I do have 7 lines for over ten years though and 3 lines are in the top 1% of data use age.. still unlimited ).
However, as the previous poster pointed out and you ignored, call Verizon and just activate it. They won't say no to a new line with 2gb data cap.

Exactly. They think he owes them money. Just because he left for Sprint doesn't mean they're just going to give up trying to get it from him...
Plus you understand he's screwing his credit. And they probably won't activate it because there is a bill attached to that phone. So technically it's blacklisted until you pay for his share. I am about to meet someone from craigslist to swap android phones (at a Sprint store). First off, any advice?
I plan to
Check ESN
Check call quality
In addition to that, what is the best way for us to swap numbers right then? Will the sprint reps in the store do it for free? If not, what suggestions do you have? Thanks in advance!
The sprint reps will swap them for you. Be sure you know what you are getting. Sometimes you may find its not what you expect. Just think clearly and logically before you agree to ****. Pull the battery out and look for water indication. If it were me, I'd also see if it was a refurb. Make sure all the buttons work, etc.

do you know if they will charge?
After it's determined the ESN is clean... If you set up your online sprint account access, you can actually put your number on the phone from there and it's free
You can Swap your phone on Sprint.com too. you go to the "Activate a Phone" link and it will ask you for your meid, hex, or ehh i forgot the other one. The problem would be you have to use the one that Sprint activated the System with or else it will say phone cannot be identified. and swapping phones is free
DEC #? They should do it for free at the store unless something shady is going on where you get charged for it. Can also call customer care but that can be difficult depending on who you get.

I was proposed an offer to trade my ET4G for a GNex. Im considering doing it. What we want to do is the nice lady that wants my phone is to use her upgrade for the GNex then when she receives the phone trade it for my ET4G (She like Touchwiz, I prefer AOSP). What Im concerned about is if Sprint will allow this exchange to happen right after she receives it. I don't want them to hit her for the full amount or anything like that. She plans on calling in ans saying she doesn't like the phone and wants to add swap the phones. Will Sprint allow this to happen right after she receives the phone? I kinda hate to leave the ET4G but LTE is lighting up soon in Chicago and where I live there is no WiMax.
Up to what I know, yes, Sprint will let you do this, they'll just make you activate it on her account, resign the 2 year agreement on her account, then you can do the swap. The only thing is, buy the phone directly from Sprint, not Simplexity or something. If you buy it from Simplexity, they'll hit her with the full price, but directly bought from Sprint is A ok.

I kinda hate to leave the ET4G but LTE is lighting up soon in Chicago and where I live there is no WiMax.

So long as it is an upgrade and not a new customer, it's ok. She doesn't even have to make up that story. What I would advise, though, is to wait to do the trade until after the 14 day is up, simply to be safe guarded if the device is defective out of the box. Not saying that the ESN swap voids our policy, but it would just make it logistically tough in a retail store, with how it would look on our end.
Also, she'll need an inactive phone to complete the transaction. We can't just flip-flop two different accounts' ESNs simultaneously, and an account can't be left without an ESN, even temporarily. She'll need to activate another phone (not yours, since it's tied to your account, unless you activate another phone instead of her), the gnex will then be inactive and free to go on your account, and then you can put your E4GT on hers.
What this all really amounts to is that this whole transaction will be much much easier in a store than over a phone lol.

Damn, I thanked you on accident. If I may interject... You are correct up until the whole inactive phone part. Sales Rep should contact NSS and they should be able to do the flip flop over the phone... At least that is what I gather from past experience.. :highfive:
If NSS gives you a hard time simply hang up and call again until you speak to someone who knows what they are doing..

Lol this is correct, though I know many in my store would rather do it themselves to save some time.

Thanks everyone! Now I need to decide if I want to leave the ET...
Well if they want an esn on the account at all times and she is using her upgrade then she would have a phone with a clean esn that you could swap your phone for then she swaps your e4gt to her account and then you swap the GNex on to yours. Yes its a lot of extra work but its an option if you have to have an active phone on both accounts

I'm leaving it for the Nexus. My sister want my E4GT and her upgrade is available next month, so she wants me to take her upgrade and give her my phone. I'm leaving sprint in December anyways, so it's not worth getting a phone like the S3 or Evo LTE. And the iPhone is a definite no anyways.
