Angled Micro USB OTG Adapter from within US for $8.95! - Xoom Accessories

Most of you who want one have probably already picked one up, but if you still need one and don't want to wait a couple weeks for one from China, I found this listing on eBay for a nice angled adapter within the US for $8.95.
I actually already had a regular straight adapter, but it sticks way out and has a nasty habit of getting in the way or jabbing me in the stomach when I have it connected. The angled adapter runs along the side of the tablet and makes it much nicer to use. I ordered this one Thursday afternoon and it already arrived this morning!
I thought I'd point this out in case anyone wants to get one without having to wait. I ordered my first cable from China, but when I decided to replace that with an angled cable I decided an extra couple bucks was worth a two day rather than two week ship time.
Update: The price of the cable on that listing actually went down, so it's now just $6.95!

Thanks for the info. I ordered mine today.

Yeah, me, too. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm just glad to hear I was finally able to be helpful on this forum. I usually just lurk around the development sections for my various devices, but I don't know enough to contribute very much.
I was really glad to find this listing as I've had a few too many bad experiences with items shipped from Hong Kong either not arriving or taking way too long. Most of the sites or eBay listings that have OTG cables within the US are way too expensive and don't have these nice short, angled cables that don't get in the way when you're trying to use the tablet. I figured there had to be a few other people on here who would be interested in getting a nice cable without dealing with overseas sellers.
For anyone who's curious and can't tell from the picture on the listing, the micro USB connector comes out of the port with a 90 degree left angle and then there's a few inches of cable that run parallel to the tablet and terminate with a standard USB port. It's definitely a lot easier to use than one of the normal straight cables, and so far it's handled everything I've tried connecting, including a couple wireless mouse/keyboard sets, standard USB mice/keyboards, and a flash drive.
Let me know how you two like yours!

This one is cheaper by $2.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Angled-Micro-USB-Host-Cable-Archos-70-101-MID-OTG-1set-/110669749949?_trksid=p4012.m1374&_trkparms=algo%3DPI.WATCH%26its%3DC%252BS%26itu%3DUCC%26otn%3D8%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D2249799372964025472#ht_3422wt_975
Should be the same thing.

Yeah, there's definitely slightly cheaper adapters available, but, like most of those listed on eBay, that one ships from China. The one I pointed out was the lowest price I found for an angled adapter that actually shipped from within the US, to avoid the usual waiting period for items to ship from Asia. I tend to get impatient when waiting for new gadgets to arrive...

Thanks, I ordered mine and patiently waiting.

Do I need rooting???
Hi Guys, Do I need rooting to use these kind of adapters to connect my external hard desk to the xoom?

Hi,
The cheapest adapter i found was this
ebay.com/itm/Angled-Micro-USB-Host-Cable-70-101-MID-OTG-/280714077332?pt=Other_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item415bdce494
Price: $2.68
Shipping: free
I ordered 2 cuz u never know where u leave them.

The original eBay link was getting a bit stale, so I went ahead and updated my OP to include an updated link to the relisted item. Enjoy!

Mini USB to Micro USB Adapter

Does anyone know where I can buy a mini USB to Micro USB adapter for my car charger? I don't want to have to buy another car charger.
i bought a few of these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002N8JJ04/ref=oss_product
they're pretty great
i chose them over a smaller rigid converter, because these are less likely to break your usb connectors
Check Monoprice.com
I went looking for low-cost adapters while waiting for my phone to ship, and there just didn't seem to be any that were cost-effective.
I wound up buying a brand new car charger for $6 on amazon and a handful of new USB to micro USB cables for less than $2 each on monoprice.
I can't see the economy in spending $5 to make my $4 mini-usb charger compatible with my phone, when a new charger is just $5 anyway. I really hope that monoprice starts selling some ridiculously cheap adapters in the near future.
Thank you very much!
Exactly what I was looking for. Now I need to come up with $25 worth of stuff to get the free shipping.
you can also get them at radio shack or bestbuy.. except at best by you have to buy it with a short cable as well cause that the only way they sell it, at radio shack you can by it by itself
I called Radio Shack, $12.95, ouch and no thank you. I can buy a whole charger for that price at WalMart.
Petronic's point is well taken. Gonna follow the same route too.
Thank you for all of the replies!

dealextreme.com is real popular in the GPS hacking world. I have never had any issues. Google them and I think you will find they are well used and received.

Dealextreme got some great price. But shipping take about a few week because of international shipping from china. And customer service is bad. I purchase many thing there. For the price you will pay for a item there is a you how you say, "you get what you pay". Ebay us buyer is the best choice for faster shipping and little pricer item for HTC Evo.

I picked a couple adapters. I wanted to use one on a charger and one on a data cable. But when I plug them in, the phone thinks it has been docked and I can't use it as a data cable. Will the one linked above work on a data cable?

Where to get micro USB to a female usb

I can't find any on amazon that prove to have data transfer or hosting capabilities.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
I recommend one of these types:
http://www.meritline.com/micro-usb-type-b-male-to-usb-a-female-cable-black---p-62877.aspx
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250817547531#ht_4462wt_905
But the less ideal ones, that may put physical stress on your usb port because they are bulky and heavy, are also available:

*Edit
Don't buy this one from amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/USB-Micro-Adapter-Converts-Devices/dp/B0027YYMU6
As it does not have OTG compatibility, i.e. your Xoom will not be host while using it. The others above all have OTG compatibility.
I've orderd the ebay one.
Hope this information was useful.

I ordered this cable, I think it is compatible
what do you think?

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news.
If this is the same cable as the one you bought:
http://lunashops.com/goods.php?id=1434
Then I don't think it will fit in the Xoom.
That one has a Micro USB A male, and I think the Xoom can only take a Micro B.
For Products that are compatible with OTG, they are supposed to have an AB type port that allows the A cable to attach for OTG and the B for Slave. But it seems that OTG was an after thought for Motorola and thus the Xoom only has a B-type port, so you have to get an unconventional Micro-B to USB A type for it. Hence why they are so hard to find.
Here is what the different connectors look like, from wikipedia:
And this is the port for the Xoom:
The cables I linked to above all look like they have Micro USB B males.
I ordered this one http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290540648726
Is it compatible, too?
correct me if im wrong, but has anyone found a usb otg cable that will actually work with the xoom. I dont mean cables that were made up. I mean a cable from an actual website or store that works out the box? I see people recommend the ebay one, but does anyone actually have it? Im looking all over the internet for a confirmation on something that works.

This one looks like it should fit, but I'm not sure if it is made for OTG or not. Suppose there is no way to know until you get it.
Timrock, I have ordered the eBay one I posted earlier, I can let you know in a week or two. But it looked right, said it was for OTG and was really cheap, so I'm not to worried if it doesn't work. Will make my own if it doesn't.
But ya, otherwise we can wait to see which ones the other guys used.
Maybe check in the dev section where they released the kernel that allowed USB host, maybe someone there will confirm which ones worked.
Cheers

The one in your next post on eBay won't fit if it's an CA-157 substitute, I got hte real Nokia CA-157 and the connector is squared off at the end, picture: HERE
however, I did get a file to the end of my CA-157 and filed it to fit, and YES it works (taking a picture now)..... attached.

Well I just ordered the $2.99 one from Meritline.com. They say it ships from the warehouse in China and should take 2-3 weeks. But hey shipping was free and they accept Paypal, so I didn't have to give them my credit card...

i've read over lots of threads today and some are outdated or just scattered with links here and there of accessories.

SO PLEASE HELP (with links to actual products...amazon preferred):
Case/cover/stand
Charging/Multimedia Dock
Adapters
Extra Cables
Keyboard Dock or Bluetooth Keyboard
Anything else i should look for...
i hand out THANKS to anyone who helps make this a complete and up to date list with all the latest and greatest for the SGT 10.1
You will probably get a lot of different opinions on this one. Most will likely be correct since there is no absolute right answer. I am a new user as well so I can share with you what I have or plan to get.
My Tab came with the Samsung pouch case which is fine but a bit inconvenient. Where do you put it when you pull the Tab out for use. I picked up one of the clip-style cases on eBay. It is very lightweight and functional.
I am going to gamble that Gorilla Glass is as tough as they say and not get a screen cover. I have, however applied a coat of Rain-X to help minimize the accumulation of fingerprints.
My device also came with the Samsung keyboard dock. This is a very nice device but not something you will probably take on the road. If you want a traveling keyboard, you might want to look into one of the integrated keyboard cases. Just remember, one of the great aspects to tablets is their light weight. Adding the mobile keyboard will double the weight.
I am still shopping for a do-it-all adapter cable. One day all tablets will come with USB, HDMI and card readers built in. I expect that I will need or want all of those connection options but right now, it does not appear that there is a plug-adaptor that offers all of those functions. The minimalist way to go is to get a USB cable or dongle which will allow you to plug in a variety of things. There is an interesting looking hub adapter on eBay that includes and SD reader and three USB ports. I have not yet heard reports from any actual users but for less $14 it might be worth giving it a try.
HDMI connectors remain elusive. The only ones that I have found so far require a 110V power connection in order to work. I am sure something will show up down the road.
One annoying thing about the Tab is the high amperage requirement for charging. Most car chargers put out far less than the 2A minimum that this device needs. USB ports on most computers are also underpowered for the Tab. If you travel, you will need a car charger. Just make sure that it will push enough current to charge your Tab.
If you are like me, the most important stuff that you will add to your new Tab will be Apps. There are many thousands of apps out there. Most seem to be games or less-than-useful apps that are not worth your time. There are, however a number of really useful apps out there that you will want to check out. Search this forum and others for opinions on that subject.
Hopefully you will find my observations helpful.
Bob
Hmm...there aren't a lot of them
Today I just bought the Samsung Galaxytab 10.1 USB adapter at Bestbuy for $19.99. At first I thought it was only for connecting a USB thumb drive but I found later it can be used for much more. In fact I tried using a Logitech Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Unifying adapter. It works flawless, in fact the response of the keyboard was spot on, if the unifying wireless adapter works I'm sure the mouse would too. The USB thumb drive works like a charm as well. I also bought the Dock for the Tab, Bestbuy doesn't sell the one with the HDMI output but does sell this one with the 3.5mm Lineout for audio and charging adapter at the back. The dock is connected to the 30pin adapter and can be charged and also have the USB dongle attached at the back for convenience. Bestbuy also has the Targus leather case stand for it, it's fairly thick material with a nice leather like microfiber interior to help in protecting the tab from scratches, it also doubles as a nice stand with three positions. All three products for just under 100 bucks. By the way the Dock was 34.99 and the case I believe was 39.99.
thanks for the replies. still looking for more help/links.
very good info though
i've also seen 2 different "OEM" USB connectors
EPL-1PL0BEGSTA & EPL-1PL0BEGXAR, what's the diff?

One drawback... you cannot charge the Tab when using the adapters.
Just got 'DigitalsOnDemand 15-Item Accessory Bundle for New Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi / 3G 4G LTE 16GB 32GB'
Includes: DigitalsOnDemand Black TPU Skin Case, Crystal Clear Case, Premium DigitalsOnDemand Leather Case with Kick Stand, Screen Protector, Adjustable Reading Book Light, Earphones with mic, Earphone Splitter, AUX Cable, Wall Charger Adapter, Car Charger Adapter, USB Sync Cable, Retractable USB Data Cable, Fishbone, DigitalsOnDemand Drawstring Travel Pouch, Black Stylus Pen
Cables, earphones and adapters work fine. I honestly bought the bundle just for the extra cables and adapters, so was pleasantly surprised that the cases look all fine. Loved the leather case (not used the other two till now). The stylus is nothing great, but is a nice extra in the package. Have not tried the screen protector as I feel there is no need for it. All in all an excellent buy for just below $60.
The USB adapter came free with my tab. So check before you by one.
I forgot to mention that I also ordered 'New Trent iGeek IMP99D 9900mAh External Battery Pack Dual USB ports' I got it on cyber Monday for $40.95 now it's $61.95 (still down from list price of $ 129.95). The battery is compatible with Tablet PCs with 5V/2A input (Ipad 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, HTC flyer). This will take care of battery issues in my mobile devices. The product name includes the amazon link and here is their own website http://www.newtrent.com
It's still with a friend of mine in US, so will get it only next month. Will give a full review once I receive it in India. However I am already happy with recommending them, as the customer service is out of this world. There were some problems with the order by credit card. They immediately contacted me. The owner self spoke with me and immediately solved all issues.
thanks a bunch. i will check to see what all is included before i buy anything extra...also i have thought of buying one of those battery packs before, but never pulled the trigger due to price and not the greatest reviews on some of them....some say they work great at first, then dont hold a charge or explode or whatever.
I had similar concerns, as I read some very negative reviews on some external battery packs. I bought this model, because I read very good reviews about this company and got it for an very enticing US$ 40.95. The website also specially mentioned that it is compatible with Tablet PCs (iPad 2, SamSung Tab 10.1, and HTC flyer) and it weighs only 250g. The 11000 mAh would have been 285g.
It includes
IMP99D external battery pack (9900mAh)
USB cable for charging Cell phone device
One USB cable for charging Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
MiniUSB adapter for Blackberry
MicroUSB adapter for Blackberry and HTC Androd, Moto Droid
AC Wall Outlet plug with voltage range 100V-240V suitable for worldwide travelers
English user manual

i've bought only 3 things so far.
the case/stand
the USB & SD Card adapters
which dock is the best dock (link on amazon please) and will it work with the case i have, or will i have to pop it out every time i need to charge it?

Car Charger + Wall Charger $6.49

Saw these on Overstock.com
Wall + Car Charger for Motorola Xoom
Says Shipping only costs you $2.95 in the lower 48 so total you're paying $9.44 not including any Tax I would assume. I paid ~$25 for just the car charger when I first got my Xoom.
Saw these, I already own them but looks like a great deal for 'em, even if it's just for the Car Charger!
I don't believe these are Xyboard or w/e it is compatible as I think that charges off Micro USB.
Have a good one all.

No luck at Staples in Cedar Rapids, IA. They didn't have any car chargers and all of their Xoom stuff was full price.
No luck at the few I'd tried in Silicon Valley, either. What zip are you in, "powerchilango"? I actually live in SoCal (and work in NoCal) and can try some stores when I get home.
No luck in Las Vegas either.
I'm beginning to think that this may have been a store only special in that posters area.
Id rather spend the 7 bucks and save the gas - having them ship is much easier.

OK, so my units (I bought two apiece) showed up yesterday. I'd expected cheap Chinese knockoff-quality units, but the worst part is the tips don't make a good connection to the charge port unless you wiggle it a little 'tll you find the right spot, and don't move them around after that.
They're OK for the price for an emergency backup, but don't expect to use them to replace an official Moto unit long-term.

large cases for Atrix 4g and laptop and media dock issue resolved.

Hey guys....I was looking for an adapter or cables to be able to use my Ballistic case and dock at the same time and couldn't find anything. I saw on here the other day someone was also asking the same thing. But anyway I found a place called all4cellular and they have a upgrade cable kit for the docks that allow this. So now I can have any case I want and dock without having to remove the phone. Just thought I'd share what I just ordered.
Interesting. Some links to the product page(s) at all4celluar would be handy.
There's a link in another thread with these cables. They are charging $40 for them. IMO that's daylight robbery. They upped the price when they found they had a market for them. Can't link the thread atm, but its in accessories forum.

I've also bought this two cables on e-bay from all4cellular (it was cheeper delivery from e-bay to Ukraine).
Both cables fit perfectly! They are 15cm. long. The problem of my large case was solved!
