I recommend one of these types:
http://www.meritline.com/micro-usb-type-b-male-to-usb-a-female-cable-black---p-62877.aspx
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250817547531#ht_4462wt_905
But the less ideal ones, that may put physical stress on your usb port because they are bulky and heavy, are also available:
http://www.priceangels.com/Micro_USB_On-The-Go_Host_OTG_Adapter_Pair__p17467.html
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0023FTRUO
*Edit
Don't buy this one from amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/USB-Micro-Adapter-Converts-Devices/dp/B0027YYMU6
As it does not have OTG compatibility, i.e. your Xoom will not be host while using it. The others above all have OTG compatibility.
I've orderd the ebay one.
Hope this information was useful.

I ordered this cable, I think it is compatible
what do you think?

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news.
If this is the same cable as the one you bought:
http://lunashops.com/goods.php?id=1434
Then I don't think it will fit in the Xoom.
That one has a Micro USB A male, and I think the Xoom can only take a Micro B.
For Products that are compatible with OTG, they are supposed to have an AB type port that allows the A cable to attach for OTG and the B for Slave. But it seems that OTG was an after thought for Motorola and thus the Xoom only has a B-type port, so you have to get an unconventional Micro-B to USB A type for it. Hence why they are so hard to find.
Here is what the different connectors look like, from wikipedia:
And this is the port for the Xoom:
The cables I linked to above all look like they have Micro USB B males.
I ordered this one http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290540648726
Is it compatible, too?
correct me if im wrong, but has anyone found a usb otg cable that will actually work with the xoom. I dont mean cables that were made up. I mean a cable from an actual website or store that works out the box? I see people recommend the ebay one, but does anyone actually have it? Im looking all over the internet for a confirmation on something that works.

This one looks like it should fit, but I'm not sure if it is made for OTG or not. Suppose there is no way to know until you get it.
Timrock, I have ordered the eBay one I posted earlier, I can let you know in a week or two. But it looked right, said it was for OTG and was really cheap, so I'm not to worried if it doesn't work. Will make my own if it doesn't.
But ya, otherwise we can wait to see which ones the other guys used.
Maybe check in the dev section where they released the kernel that allowed USB host, maybe someone there will confirm which ones worked.
Cheers

Well I just ordered the $2.99 one from Meritline.com. They say it ships from the warehouse in China and should take 2-3 weeks. But hey shipping was free and they accept Paypal, so I didn't have to give them my credit card...
We'll see.
The cable to go seems this one!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004UAG6WC/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A2WCWU062KR80P
The official from Motorola
I ordered mine for $4 (free shiping) from china sometime last week, it has not arrived yet lol, but I'm far away anyhow, I couldn't wait and used a micro usb cable I had laying around and a femme USB port and got myself a "free" OTG, and somewhat aesthetically pleasant to the eye.

So I went to my a local electronic store (that shall remain nameless) and wanted to get a few accessories. When I asked for a USB mini to micro adapter and they wanted $14 for it (should be around $5). I decided I need good place to get a all those little cell phone accessories online. Anyone know of any good ones? Looking for things like a hard case for it (body glove or other), the usb adapter mentioned above, retractable cable, 16 gig micro usb, things like that. I want to be able to get them all in one place. I could use some sound advice... going a simple google search gives me some sketchy places, and newegg does not carry it all.
Thanks
www.cellularfactory.com
Don't know if they are good, but going to give them a shot
I always use eBay for most of my accessories, they're usually the cheapest.
My friend works for www.wirelessemporium.com But they still have a very limited selection of accessories for the EVO.
For misc. cables and stuff, I always use www.monoprice.com
Seconded for Monoprice. If you don't mind waiting, you can find some stuff on dealextreme.com
Another vote for monoprice on any cables. I picked up two 3' micro usb cables, two 10' micro usb cables and two mini hdmi to hdmi cables for ~$20 after shipping. They got it to me faster than expected as well.
No offense, but if you are wanting the best price on all of the accessories, you need to be a little more realistic and not expect to get them all from one place.
I tried looking for the HDMI cable that works on our phone, but I couldn't find it on monoprice...
Can anyone post a link or point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Do any of you guys and gals know of an aftermarket cable that will work with the captivate. I lost the original one that came with the phone. Have since bought two different chargers, one from the att store (zero charger), and they charge the phone but don't put it on USB mode like the original one did when I plug it to a laptop.
Sent from my rooted Cappy.
All you need is a standard MicroUSB to USB cable. Make sure it's a standard cable, and not a "charge only" cable though.
A bit of advise, generally if you buy a cable that isn't a Samsung USB cable, you're going to have to take a razor blade to your new cable and cut away some of the rubber around the MicroUSB plug. You'll see that untrimmed, you might have a hard time getting the cable secured in the phone's port.
Thanks man. I actually just noticed the "charging only cable" written on the tag on the cable. Now I know what to look for. And you're right, the one I bought from a gas station was always popping out. The one from att fits like a glove though.
Sent from my rooted Cappy.
All it takes is a razor blade or something similar, and a few seconds. I use a bunch of generic USB cables which all have fat plug heads. Trimming a little of the rubber off and they all work perfect.
Weird, for some reason my original cable from ATT now is really loose, I have to like set the phone down a certain way to keep it charging/plugged in.
The only cables that now do fit snuggly are the ones from my external mini hard drives with the fat head, haha, I wonder why...my captivate still looks normal, can't figure it out.
I guess I should see if my normal cable fits with my externals or falls out of those too, if so it would be the cable. But it seems weird that the fat headed cables fit snuggly with my captivate, so that makes me think maybe its the captivate.
long winded stupid post, sorry.
i bought a blackberry cable from best buy... data and charging... 16 bucks. but when ever your puppy ate your data cable in the middle of the night and you're phone is at 30% battery, ya tend to pay for it...

Check out www all4cellular DOT com
They have the OEM Samsung Captivate (U.S./Edison) Wall Charger and USB Charging+Data Cable for $6.95 + $2 Shipping.
The item number is "eta0u60jbe". But this item # includes BOTH the USB Wall Charger (# ETA0U60JBE) AND the USB-to-Micro USB data/charging Cable (# ECC1DU2BBE)!
I bought two of these and they are EXACTLY like the original Charger and ~5ft. USB Cable that comes with the Captivate. They are OEM/Samsung-branded and labeled and are not Chinese-made knock-offs. I am in SoCal and received them within a few days of ordering.

I had similar issues, till I realized that the problem was with the sliding door for the microUSB port - make sure it is pushed all the way back (you may hear a click) - its only then that all my MicroUSB cables fit w/out any modifications to them.
as always YMMV.

I second the Monoprice.com recommendation. I buy ALL my cables there. The heads on their micro USB cables are too large to plug into the Captivate unmodified, but I used a Dremel to fix that.
Both of my Monoprice cables are going strong, in contrast with my OEM cable, which started out excellent, but is now so loose as to not maintain a connection unless the phone and cable are precisely arranged.

I have a 1009 model. Assuming that means it was manufactured Sept,2010. Now to find a microUSB
We have some micro USB 5' Cables coming in Monday. If they are like the sample they not only fit the Captivate properly, but when plugged into our new Car Plug ->USB (2100mA) adapter, my Captivate shows "Charging (AC) ".
We originally brought in the Hi-Power USB car adapter so iPad & Tablet customers could both run & charge at the same time. We have had enough request from customers looking to use it with Smart Phones, that I had to find the best matching cable.

Monoprice...ALWAYS!!
As mentioned, get your cables from monoprice. I mean, you just can't beat a usb cable for $2. If it needs trimmed, I usually just use a razor knife/box cutter to remove the bulk, and it works perfectly. I actually had to order a 25ft. VGA cable from them a couple of days ago...$8. Seriously. Definitely the cheapest place I've seen to buy cables.
I bought one of these: HERE
It doesn't work, so I'm wondering if any one has experience with this cable, it says it's an OTG but I get no power from it.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I tried to plug in several things like my PS3 controller and a HDD but nothing.
I'm wondering if the pin that is supposed to be shorted to ground is on the mini end and not the micro end like we want it to be.
Otherwise I wonder if I I can modify it work rather than send it back?

But anyway I built my own usingthis and a usb extension. Followed this instructions. So my guess is that the cable you have doesn't have the 5th pin (brown wire) grounded. I butchered a regular micro usb cable just to find out it didn't have the brown wire at all.

This is my guess also, but the eBay guy as you can see clearly sells it as an OTG cable. I have been in touch and he says his supplier says it's an OTG but he doesn't have the technical expertise to understand, let alone advise.
I guess the solution is as you say, I went to the workshop, and even tried the local electronics store and it seems you can't buy the micro-usb plug as an individual component so butchering other stuff seems to be the solution.
As for the tutorial, thanks, but I shouldn't need it, otherwise I should probably send back the certificate for my degree in Electronic Engineering that's on my wall, cause I really wouldn't have earned it

Am I missing something here? Why is it so important to get the original Samsung USB cable? It's just microUSB.
I didn't even bother taking the original Samsung cables out of the box since I have so many laying around. I use my cables from my previous HTC devices. I also use generic cables that I bought for spares. It all works just fine.
I rooted my SGS2 and with just a generic microUSB cable that happened to be nearby. And I charge my SGS2 with my HTC chargers.

I wonder if that is really an original cable, especially at that price. Ordered 3 anyway.
Yeah I've never bothered with specific cables before but Galaxy S2 requires a specific USB build cable. I've flashed my ass off with Galaxy S and different cables but SII would not work (properly) until I used the cable that came with it. Tried on different PC's, Mac (running Fusion), different USB cables etc... only Samsung's worked.
It might be that the length of the cable needs to be very short because SII is not powered the same way GS was powered.
thx everyone!! yup i heard in a lot of places that i must use original cables for specific
things..
google is my very best friend ... but not all does fake cables aaaaalll over google,

Received my original cable from Export Prive today. The cable is a U6, so the cable is slightly thicker and the microUSB connector is also slightly thicker in the plastic area. It still fits in the opening of my SGP Silke case and the cable works fine for charging and data connection.
Received the really cheap cables from ebay. Turns out that they are also original Samsung cables with the code:
S1 APCBS10BBE
FL1Z412ASB
The connectors are identical to my original U2 APCBU10BBE cable and the wiring feels slightly stiffer.
Extremely good value for $2 each! Charges fine, transfers data through USB mass storage fine as well. Will test flashing next time.

I beg to differ. Firstly, the SGSII requires a micro usb B connector. And secondly, the quality of the wire used in the cable itself can limit the charging rate. Really thin cheap cables like the retractable ones limit the charging current. And cables with poor shielding/grounding cause the touchscreen to become unresponsive and you have a higher chance of a firmware upgrade going wrong due to corrupt data.

Nope, my HDMI cables cost me $3.95 each.
For some things cheap cables will work, for others, you need proper ones.
My proper Samsung microUSB cables cost me $2 each only anyway, so what does this have to do with cheap/expensive cables? My argument is that you need quality cables. And price does not equal quality. You can get good quality items for cheap price too. Except for microSD cards.
hey sleepy cat,
the cable's you've ordered from KTS-AME, do they work with KIES and Galaxy S or SII?
I've ordered a cheap one on Amazon and KIES doesnt recognise my phone.
so if the KTS-AME one actually does the job of getting my phone back with KIES, I am going to order it for my Galaxy S I9000.

hmmmm you do know that's probably about the cost of making a real 32gb microsd card, yes?
And of course you do know that some of the "counterfeit" luxury goods like LV bags, are actual products taken from the china factory and resold cheap.
Of course, there are lots of conmen in china, but hey one may always get lucky.
Can you get basically one cable to plug in the S3 and it split to charge and aux? Like the ibolt cable does but just the cable and not the dock
I have see some other threads on xda about making one but I couldn't find anywhere to buy one. I just ordered the bolt for now, but would swap for a slicker car cradle and a cable with the ability you mention. Let me know if you source one

Unable to find one. I even went as far as trying a micro USB to apple 30 pin, as I had a 30pin to USB + 3.5mm jack, but it did not work.
The one that comes with the ibolt works perfect tho, I have to say. Not sure why people don't like the cradle, it does it's job well for me.

A stand-alone cable would allow the convenience of one-cable charge/audio out when you have a case on your phone and use a universal dock. I'm waiting for one of these cables.
Im surprised there is not one...and the reason for the cable is you can get a universal cradle and the cable for half the price of an ibolt...plus I hear they are really bulky and the phone is sunk in there as its one size fits all. But this is only what I have heard and could be mistaken.

gotta love photoshopped images...
I wouldn't trust it.
170000+ sales and still 99.8% of his customers seem to be OK with what they got. Doesn't look very untrustworthy to me.
No guarantee it will work, though.
I ordered one of these last night, the length isn't ideal at 1.2m but hopefully just enough. I will report back when it arrives
Want the cable? Why not simply order it from Amazon, like I did?
Since this is my first post, I am unable to post Amazon's link directly, but if you search for iBolt on Amazon.com, you should see it for $9.95. The 3.5mm aux cable is not gold plated though. Enjoy.

Thanks. Heres the link. http://www.amazon.com/iBOLT-Samsung...&ie=UTF8&qid=1350578912&sr=1-1&keywords=ibolt
But 9' is kind of OD. I have the iBolt car mount and that **** is long as hell. I had to zip tie it and it looks like of messy.
Awesome find! I agree though, 9' is ridiculous. I guess its better to have more, than not enough?

When I ran my cable in my car (just a monoprice cable, i don't use a ibolt) I pupped a couple dash panels off, and ran it INSIDE the dash... then of course (because I am a dork) i took apart the car adapter.... and hardwired it to the fuse box. now the only evidence of a cable is the 3" that goes from the a pillar to the mount. totally worth it, but you need a long cable to do the routing.
Sounds like it might be worth checking out.
Was there an issue using the iBolt cable and JB? I know there was something that was not working right with an update or rom or something, sorry too lazy to search at the moment...I would hate to get this cable and the update to JB come out in a month and then figure out there is a problem. Hopefully I got this wrong
