[Q] HTC Desire 2.3.3 - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI
So been searching for info on this, and other forums for about 2 days but came up with nothing on my device so hopefully i did a good job.
First of im Swedish so sorry for my bad english.
So my device:
HTC Desire 2.3.3
Flashed with HTC RUU from there site.
Not roted
As far as i know its not branded
Norwegian carrier
My problem:
The problems only showed after the upgrade to 2.3.3 and is:
1. When i listen to music on speakers i can change the volume perfectly but when i connect my headphones or handsfree my volume is stuck at one level.
I already tried to change the volume from settings, from different music players and tried a hard reset using power on and volume down.
Nothing seems to fix it.
2. My phone goes into car mode often. Mostly when i plug in my charger but sometimes when its in my pocket. I already downloaded the app from market thats supposed to "fix" it but it didn't do much differens.
I tried hard reset but the problem is still there.
3. I tried to root my phone so i could reflash it with another rom but read on another forum that its not possible at the moment using 2.3.3. Tried gingerbreak and unrevoked 3 but with no success. So in my desperation and irritation over the problem i re-downloaded the HTC 2.3.3 update to try and reflash the phone but i got an error message stating that i needed the correct rom for my phone. Kind of strange imo because thats the one i downloaded and successfully used the first time.
So the solutions i already tried are:
Different headphones
apps to combat the car mode
Hard reset using power on and volume down.
Any ideas?
//Thomas G

Thomas,
Short answer is that you can't root if you applied the HTC RUU, at least not yet (plenty of forums threads on XDA discuss this). This means you are stuck with that ROM for now.
I don't see your bugs on the rooted version of the HTC gingerbread ROM, so can't reproduce them.

Yes i know it cant root it, just showing what solutions i tried so far =)
And now im all out of ideas =(

you can root solution came out a few days ago

Hi again and thank you for replying
Im sorry i get them two mixed up. But i tried revolutionary on my windows computer but dont remember what happend, error codes, other messages etc, all i know is it didn't work because i still wasent rooted. Thats when i tried unrevoked after. Iv tried alot of stuff using my windows machin but its not hooked up right now and im mostly only using my macbook.
But my main concern is not rooting atm, but the volume and car mode. I work in IKEA Logistiks and we work night hours so were listening to music while we work. Its a pain not being abel to adjust the volume =/

Dude im so sorry. I surfed a bit more on there page and remembered that i had problems with invalid beta code and i tried the solution, copy past, but still no luck getting the program to run.
Thats what happend. But giving it another so il post what happend in a while!
Sorry again and thanks!

Problem solved =)
Got S-off with revolutionary after borrowing a friends computer so something wrong with my windows machine maybe.
But reflashed it with Cyanogen mod and its working like a charm =)
No more car mode and i can change the volume. Strange bug i must have received before with the update from HTC 2.3.3.
Thanks for the help, its friday so beer on me! =)

How do I know if my Desire is rooted?

I bought a handset off another forum a couple of months back and I think it's a fully unbranded handset, and have been trying to run the 2.2 update, except everytime I get to the green sync symbol after it restarts, I then get a red question mark.
I'm running
Firmware 2.1 update1
Build number .1.1.405.2 CL174215 release keys
Software number 1.21.405.2
So is this rooted? Either way, how do I get the Froyo update to work?
Many thanks!

You will know if it is rooted cos you wont be able to pull it out the ground lol
Only jokin if you phone is rooted you will have a program in your apps called super user.
hope this helps
I have something called superuser permissions. Is that it? As you can gather, I'm a bit of a thicky so an idiots guide would be great!

Yeah thats the one your phone is rooted
Ok. That answers the first part I guess then. Any ideas how I get to Froyo? I can download the update, but it always fails to do it's thing.
Do I have to restore the phone or what? And how?
is your phone branded in any way? even a start up logo ?
and where can you download the update? from system software updates on your phone?
There's no branding on the phone, box or software. I can download the update via software updates.
PS. Thanks for the help so far!
If you can download it from software updates go for it froyo here we go,
no branding is a good sign
Just try updating via the update manager as that should work.
LOL
That's the problem. It doesn't work!
Same thing with me....
I bought a Telstra Branded Handset. Had a company root and install a generic rom. (Telstra handset because it works on ATT 3G.) This morning, the phone told me that I had an Android Software Update (Version 2.2). The phone downloaded it, but wouldn't install. I imagine because the dang thing is rooted.
I will wait a few days for someone to offer a desire rom with 2.2 and HTC sense.
Is there an easy way to restore the handset to it's original software so I can upgrade from there?
Look for the Unrooting guide in the (sticky) guides collection. I believe it just involves flashing a stock rom. But currently you won't be able to root your phone after official OTA froyo update, since it flashes your hboot too. Alternatively you can flash a rooted froyo ROM without hboot.
Edit: Look in development forum for the sticky guide. The place to be for topics like this; it makes them obsolete.

It took a bit of time to download all the updates, but I got there in the end.
My Desire is rooted, 2.1, not 2.2 Froyo, I wish. But I am trying to things in the file management like install and move around apk files. But it wont allow saying I have no permissions. Rooted to me means God access, but its not really god access. Any ideas why?

Even if you are rooted, you will have READ ONLY access to /system due to NAND protection. You can only write to /system from recovery.

[Q] How do I get my Desire HD to update after unroot?

Hey. I rooted my Desire HD with VISIONary+ a couple of days ago but decided to unroot again because I actually was happy with the way it was before and just wanted to root it to see what it was like. Well.. Now I have a problem. I downgraded to root it and now I can't update the phone again.
When it starts to update it reboots but when it turns on again the only thing I can see is a little Android and a triangle with exclamation. Then I have to take out the battery and start the phone again. I've tried it several times now and that same thing happens every time. What can I do?
And by the way: Clockwork Recovery is still turned on after the unrooting and I've tried to root and flash alternate recovery but it says that there is no other recovery to flash. I don't know if this could have anything to do with the updating problem.
Please help me I'm new at all this rooting stuff and I just want my phone the way it was before if that's possible.
If you still have CWM on the phone you're still rooted so an OTA update will fail. You need the RUU to completely reset the phone to stock
How do I get the RUU? And what do I do with it? Can you help me out?
Here is a guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864054
RUUs can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841207
Just run it when phone is connected to HTC Sync on your computer.
I guess I should look under "Official Roms". But which one should I pick?

The one that corresponds best with your phone, ie mine would be t-mobile uk
Thank you all so much. It worked and I got it updated! I just have one more question.
Before I rooted I was on firmware 1.7something and now I'm on 1.3something and it says that there is no available updates. Why is that so?
Htc uk pulled the 1.72 update because it was ****. That might be why.

Downgrading 2.50.405.2 to 1.32 ?

Hi,
I just got my dhd back from repair and they updated it to 2.50.405.2 -.-
Is this downgradable yet to root ? I ****in hate standard roms
Please help..
Thanks
i think versions above 2.37 can't be downgraded yet.
i am waiting for downgrade of 2.42 as well. just wait
I to have 2.50.405.2 after repair.
I found rooted this version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155634&highlight=2.50.405.2
But dont know will it help to change ROM.
If some one will find some solution please share it.
gingerbreak 1.2 not working with 2.50
Well, u need clockworkmod to flash it which u need rom manager for. And for rom manager u need root
I think we'll have to wait.. But the 2.37+ downgrade has been in development for about 2 months now.. Taking way to long
Probably waiting to see which bootloaders are unlocked, as promised.
Due out in September.

If u are S-OFF then u can downgrade to 2.36 by using the RUU version then root ur device,
edit:- i´ve done it more than 3times after updating from 2.36 to 2.50 "OTA" (believe me u can)
U can get the 2.36 ruu here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13381205
So,if i'm novice and i don't have s-off with 2.50 only thing i can do is wait for downgrade?is that right?

Edit:
DONE!
DHD is now rooted with Radio and ENG S-OFF.
Thank you so much.
Now moving on to flash another rom, and try and figure the whole fing about the radio out..
I successfully downgraded and rooted my desire hd 2.42.415 at last. Thanks a million JSLEnterprises. You are awesome
Trivial Question
I have a trivial question, I am very interested in rooting using this method, however I have recently encountered an issue with my stock rom ever since I did the OTA update to 2.43.611.1 The issue is HTC Sence has stopped unexpectedly window pops up quite often & in talking to telus my provider & HTC them selves, they both say the phone needs to be repaired,
My question since I encountered the problem immediatly upon doing the OTA update should I get it repaired first or just try rooting to see if that fixes it.
Also if possible can I be pointed in the direction of how to return to stock Telus if I end up rooting & the probelm still persists?
My thanks to thoes who have diligently be working & involved in helping others & myself reach root status on higher Build numbers.
Great Work!

The reason you're getting the error after the ota update is the same reason why people get issues after installing custom roms and not wiping their device... the old cache and user data conflicts with the update.
Downgrading and then flashing a custom rom along with flashing an updated radio will remedy the problem. I dont believe you'll want to use the initial radio release, I highly recommend flashing the radio from the 2.52 korean release to your Telus DHD, along with the ril's from that release and replacing the ones in the rom you will flash via cwm recovery. ENG S-OFF is required to flash a new radio or recovery img.
Once you downgrade, you can always return to the stock 2.43.661.1 rom. There is a thread in the Desire HD/Inspire 4G Forum on Driphter.com where I've placed the RUU's of common builds (especially for Telus and AT&T). If returning the device for warranty purposes, you must Radio S-On prior to Installing the stock rom via the RUU. The RUU Itself will set ENG to SHIP, and unroot.
Excellent, Greatly appreciated.
Might try rooting as soon as tonight. Kind of excited to have a functional device again!
I am glad that it worked, i thought OH **** the other day, when i found out that i shouldn't have updated to 2.50, if i was about to root..
Big thanks to you JSL, nice work, and easy tuturial!!
I can see that in /HTC ACE TOOLKIT
is a splash screen changer, and a boot animation changer.. how do i use them?
Cheers guys I will try that downgrade guide. Just a note though. The file fize of the version of HTC Sync for the Desire HD I'm downloading is 66.6MB. I hope that isn't an omen for this to go horrendously wrong

[Q] problem while rooting my htc wildfire

Hey, I have a problem with my HTC wildfire after i tried rooting it.
I used this tutorial ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035 ) while trying to root my phone.
After downgrading my phone from froyo 2.2.1 to eclair 2.1 with the RUU, my phone rebooted like it was supposed to do but now the touchscreen on my phone will not work at all. I have no idea of how to fix this and i was wondering if anybody could help me out? thanks in advance

If your read my thread you already have the answer.
I had exactly the same problem and i was in panic. This is what i did. Started the phone as usual. And because no touch i couldn´t get pass pincode for sim. At that point i connected the phone to my pc and tried a different RUU. Google it and you find it
""RUU_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.37.405.1_Radio_13.53.55.24H_3. 35.19.25_release_151892_signed"
Probably it won´t work first try but have the phone connected to the computer while you restart your pc, open RUU file again and finally it will work. The phone rebooted with 2.1 eclair and touch working! =) Then rooting was a peace of cake after that! I have now cm7
thanks so much i was getting worried when i realised the touchscreen wouldnt work at all ..I tried searching for the answer but i didnt seem to find it so i decided to put up a thread :L

[Q] HTC Desire rooting

Hi,
I am trying to root my HTC Desire (This is the first time I have tried to root a phone) with a view to putting CM7 on in the end.
I know there are 101 posts on here about rooting and I have read through alot of them but I still am not having any joy, here is the story so far ........
1) Loaded Hboot Drivers
2) Removed HTC Sync
3) Downloaded unRevoked3
4) Data reset the phone (Both hard and soft)
5) plugged in the phone
6) made sure usb debugging was on
7) made sure non market place apps was on
unRevoked throws a firmware to new error
The phone is running:
Hboot 0.093.00001
Android 2.2.2
My question is have i missed something really simple or is my firmware just to new and ill have to wait for a new version of unrevoked ?
The guides I have read seem to suggest that 0.093 would work.
Thanks for your help
2.2.2 ota update is not working with unrevoked (a few posts been made) try revolutionary.io and dont forget to flash superuser zip
What's your OS?
Version of unrevoked3?
I'm running Vista on the PC, Android 2.2.2 and unrevoked 3.3.2

I cannot confirm what has been said about 2.2.2 not working with unrevoked, but even if that is not true, you should not be using unrevoked 3.32. That was designed to get around a plugged exploit in an arabian rom.
Everyone except people on the arabian rom should user 3.21
That said, I dont know what the softeware version for 2.2.2 is so I cannot confirm what has already been said.
Any Brandings? 0² might have some problems. And wich Recovery are you using?

That's exactly what I wanted to say. Use the latest 3.2x and it should work. If not try it on a PC that runs XP.
Thanks for the replies. I have a couple of questions about them.
rootSU/[email protected]
3.2.2 was the latest release I downloaded from the main link on the site. Should I try one version back. If so any ideas where I can pick it up ?

I haven't used a recovery I have just Factory reset the phone and tried to root it with unrevoked.

Yes use 3.21.
Look at the download link for 3.32 and change the 3.32 to 3.21 in the link
Give both versions a try. 3.2.1 comes with a revised timing of root process for more reliability. If this doesn't work try the 3.2.2 which has the rageagainstthecage exploit reimplemented. I'd say at least one should work. If not try both versions under XP.

I have tried both versions and no joy on either (I haven't tried on an xp box yet).
I think I will try and pick up an old wildfire from ebay to play with. That way I wont brick my only phone if I try other ways of rooting lol
A quick question about revolution.io, I noticed it is in beta anyone know how stable it is ?
