Hi,
I am trying to root my HTC Desire (This is the first time I have tried to root a phone) with a view to putting CM7 on in the end.
I know there are 101 posts on here about rooting and I have read through alot of them but I still am not having any joy, here is the story so far ........
1) Loaded Hboot Drivers
2) Removed HTC Sync
3) Downloaded unRevoked3
4) Data reset the phone (Both hard and soft)
5) plugged in the phone
6) made sure usb debugging was on
7) made sure non market place apps was on
unRevoked throws a firmware to new error
The phone is running:
Hboot 0.093.00001
Android 2.2.2
My question is have i missed something really simple or is my firmware just to new and ill have to wait for a new version of unrevoked ?
The guides I have read seem to suggest that 0.093 would work.
Thanks for your help
2.2.2 ota update is not working with unrevoked (a few posts been made) try revolutionary.io and dont forget to flash superuser zip
What's your OS?
Version of unrevoked3?
I'm running Vista on the PC, Android 2.2.2 and unrevoked 3.3.2

I cannot confirm what has been said about 2.2.2 not working with unrevoked, but even if that is not true, you should not be using unrevoked 3.32. That was designed to get around a plugged exploit in an arabian rom.
Everyone except people on the arabian rom should user 3.21
That said, I dont know what the softeware version for 2.2.2 is so I cannot confirm what has already been said.
Any Brandings? 0² might have some problems. And wich Recovery are you using?

That's exactly what I wanted to say. Use the latest 3.2x and it should work. If not try it on a PC that runs XP.
Thanks for the replies. I have a couple of questions about them.
rootSU/[email protected]
3.2.2 was the latest release I downloaded from the main link on the site. Should I try one version back. If so any ideas where I can pick it up ?
Kayon
I haven't used a recovery I have just Factory reset the phone and tried to root it with unrevoked.

Yes use 3.21.
Look at the download link for 3.32 and change the 3.32 to 3.21 in the link
Give both versions a try. 3.2.1 comes with a revised timing of root process for more reliability. If this doesn't work try the 3.2.2 which has the rageagainstthecage exploit reimplemented. I'd say at least one should work. If not try both versions under XP.

Thanks for your help everyone.
I have tried both versions and no joy on either (I haven't tried on an xp box yet).
I think I will try and pick up an old wildfire from ebay to play with. That way I wont brick my only phone if I try other ways of rooting lol
A quick question about revolution.io, I noticed it is in beta anyone know how stable it is ?

Maybe this is the driver issue.Try to reinstall the Hboot Driver.

Hello all,
I am having a bit of a problem here.
I managed to download Unrevoked 3.2 to root my HTC Desire GSM on the official 2.2 Froyo.
Ik installed the Hboot drivers correctly and when i start the tool everything goes well untill he reboots. After the reboot this message comes up:
"Failed to load recovery image".
Am i doing something wrong or what?
I have a .zip file with a recovery on my SD card.
Thanks in advance,

I can bet you have HBOOT 0.92 or other than Unrevoked can't make
How can i see my Hboot version? Is 0.92 not supported? Will it be? Why are smurfs blue and why am i asking so many questions?
Power on your device with the volume down, the HBOOT version will be the third line down. If you have 0.92 than you need to downgrade.
There is a link under android development with a tutorial.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
Ah offcourse. So i have 0.92. And so it isn't possible to root my device on the official Froyo update (yet)?
I was under the impression that UnrEVOked 3.2 could root later HBOOTs without a downgrade.
However, the point is moot at the moment, because 3.2 was pulled due to some bugs, so that may well be what is causing the OPs issue.
Regards,
Dave
3.2 Is indeed also for Froyo devices. But 0.92 bootloader is an exeption maybe?
3.2 Was pulled down because of some problems with 2 Evo users. It should be working on the Desire tho.

The 0.92 bootloader came with the Froyo OTA.
So, if UnrEVOked 3.2 is supposed to root Froyo based Desires, it stands to reason that it should be so with HBOOT 0.92, because if you've got Froyo with an earlier bootloader, you must've already rooted at some point.
Regards,
Dave
Why, if 3.2 was taken down for bugs and screwing up peoples phones, did you try and use it?? Seems like a silly idea to me...
And 2.10.405.2 is HBOOT 0.93
it does 092 just fine. i did mine. you are doing something wrong. remove htc sync

It went offline for 2 EVO users. There were no Desire problems.
But it was taken down as it COULD cause issues for any device. Just cause it was 2 EVOs doesn't mean it won't kill other phones as well...if it was OK for all phones they'd still have it on their site with a note that it might cause issue if you have an EVO

did you install hboot drivers w/o errors?

One thing I would say about UnreEVOked in general is that I found the Windows version by far the most difficult to get up and running, whereas the OS/X version just runs with no messing around with drivers etc. I'd imagine the same is true of the Linux version.
Regards,
Dave
I've used unrEVOked once using Windows 7 x64 and it worked first time - was VERY easy...I'm back to stock now but does anyone know if HBOOT 0.93 will be supported when it's back out?

Yes i did install the drivers correctly and connected my device in mass storage mode with debugging turned on. Running on Win 7 64BIT but that should not be the problem. I am willing to try it on MAC OSX if somebody wants to give me the OSX files in a PM.
yes it is said that it will support any hboot. i did mine yesterday because i wanted amonra's recovery. i had no problems whatsoever.

I purchased my Desire back in June and as soon as i found out about rooting
i used the one click unrevoked 3 method. Due to it being unbranded i didnt need a gold card i simply did so. After which i had problems installing some roms and its become too difficult so ive decided to unroot it and use it as it was meant to be until i gain more knowledge.
My problem is no matter which RUU i use following the unlocker method nothing works. I continue to get the error that none of the RUUs are suitable for my phone.
I have looked through the other posts but couldnt find an answer that worked for me.

Hi,
Is your Hboot 0.93 ?
try this RUU : http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe
Enter bootloader (vol.dw+power), then plug the phone to USB and run the RUU it should work...
Have u installed HTC Sync again after using unrevoked?
U need the htc drivers installed
Have u tried LeeDroid?
Running stable and fast in my Desire, I rooted nd unrooted the phone twice, but every time i go back to unroot status i get bored, so root again, i think u should try another ROM first before unroot, try mine : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703
Download de ROM,
Install thru ROM Manager or directly thru Recovery, but remember to Wipe data before u install make a clean install, if u still experience any issues go back to Stock...
My Hboot is 0.93.0001
Ill try the RUU tomorrow when i have enough time at my disposal
Although ill try leedroid first just in case. Hopefully it works and is good enough
thanks for the help
Just curious, but did it work?

do you have something like wheres my droid on your phone, try uninstalling it, if you have qik uninstall updates, my first evo wouldnt root because of them
Reboot your phone, that way when it starts, nothing is running. Then run unrevoked after going through my instructions.
Make sure you download the newest version of unrevoked, I think its up to 3.2 or 3.3 now. Unrevoked 3 is out of date.

Never had that problem only thing I can think of that would of cause that would be whoever had that phone be4 you installed a hboot that wasn't rootable. Refurbs are always someone elses problem that ends up in your lap.
I got mine through them the first one was junk had lines down the screen when you turned it on then called em and they sent a brand new one next day. No problem rooting it.

I don't know which version of unrevoked you're using, but make sure you're using the newest one as somebody else mentioned. If you're using the version that you used to root previously, uninstall it & install the newest version. If that doesn't work, there are other methods to root.

either way, i just want to put in a good word for an alternative to unrevoked: i had a *very* good experience with this universal auto root procedure by xhausx

his procedure is pretty thorough and has specific instructions for various HW versions and HBOOT versions. it seems to me if you followed it to the letter you would very likely have success.

Hi,
I just got my dhd back from repair and they updated it to 2.50.405.2 -.-
Is this downgradable yet to root ? I ****in hate standard roms
Please help..
Thanks
i think versions above 2.37 can't be downgraded yet.
i am waiting for downgrade of 2.42 as well. just wait
I to have 2.50.405.2 after repair.
I found rooted this version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155634&highlight=2.50.405.2
But dont know will it help to change ROM.
If some one will find some solution please share it.
gingerbreak 1.2 not working with 2.50
Well, u need clockworkmod to flash it which u need rom manager for. And for rom manager u need root
I think we'll have to wait.. But the 2.37+ downgrade has been in development for about 2 months now.. Taking way to long
Probably waiting to see which bootloaders are unlocked, as promised.
Due out in September.

If u are S-OFF then u can downgrade to 2.36 by using the RUU version then root ur device,
edit:- i´ve done it more than 3times after updating from 2.36 to 2.50 "OTA" (believe me u can)
U can get the 2.36 ruu here:-

Trivial Question
I have a trivial question, I am very interested in rooting using this method, however I have recently encountered an issue with my stock rom ever since I did the OTA update to 2.43.611.1 The issue is HTC Sence has stopped unexpectedly window pops up quite often & in talking to telus my provider & HTC them selves, they both say the phone needs to be repaired,
My question since I encountered the problem immediatly upon doing the OTA update should I get it repaired first or just try rooting to see if that fixes it.
Also if possible can I be pointed in the direction of how to return to stock Telus if I end up rooting & the probelm still persists?
My thanks to thoes who have diligently be working & involved in helping others & myself reach root status on higher Build numbers.
Great Work!

The reason you're getting the error after the ota update is the same reason why people get issues after installing custom roms and not wiping their device... the old cache and user data conflicts with the update.
Downgrading and then flashing a custom rom along with flashing an updated radio will remedy the problem. I dont believe you'll want to use the initial radio release, I highly recommend flashing the radio from the 2.52 korean release to your Telus DHD, along with the ril's from that release and replacing the ones in the rom you will flash via cwm recovery. ENG S-OFF is required to flash a new radio or recovery img.
Once you downgrade, you can always return to the stock 2.43.661.1 rom. There is a thread in the Desire HD/Inspire 4G Forum on Driphter.com where I've placed the RUU's of common builds (especially for Telus and AT&T). If returning the device for warranty purposes, you must Radio S-On prior to Installing the stock rom via the RUU. The RUU Itself will set ENG to SHIP, and unroot.
Excellent, Greatly appreciated.
Might try rooting as soon as tonight. Kind of excited to have a functional device again!
I am glad that it worked, i thought OH **** the other day, when i found out that i shouldn't have updated to 2.50, if i was about to root..
Big thanks to you JSL, nice work, and easy tuturial!!

Cheers guys I will try that downgrade guide. Just a note though. The file fize of the version of HTC Sync for the Desire HD I'm downloading is 66.6MB. I hope that isn't an omen for this to go horrendously wrong

HI
So been searching for info on this, and other forums for about 2 days but came up with nothing on my device so hopefully i did a good job.
First of im Swedish so sorry for my bad english.
So my device:
HTC Desire 2.3.3
Flashed with HTC RUU from there site.
Not roted
As far as i know its not branded
Norwegian carrier
My problem:
The problems only showed after the upgrade to 2.3.3 and is:
1. When i listen to music on speakers i can change the volume perfectly but when i connect my headphones or handsfree my volume is stuck at one level.
I already tried to change the volume from settings, from different music players and tried a hard reset using power on and volume down.
Nothing seems to fix it.
2. My phone goes into car mode often. Mostly when i plug in my charger but sometimes when its in my pocket. I already downloaded the app from market thats supposed to "fix" it but it didn't do much differens.
I tried hard reset but the problem is still there.
3. I tried to root my phone so i could reflash it with another rom but read on another forum that its not possible at the moment using 2.3.3. Tried gingerbreak and unrevoked 3 but with no success. So in my desperation and irritation over the problem i re-downloaded the HTC 2.3.3 update to try and reflash the phone but i got an error message stating that i needed the correct rom for my phone. Kind of strange imo because thats the one i downloaded and successfully used the first time.
So the solutions i already tried are:
Different headphones
apps to combat the car mode
Hard reset using power on and volume down.
Any ideas?
//Thomas G
Thomas,
Short answer is that you can't root if you applied the HTC RUU, at least not yet (plenty of forums threads on XDA discuss this). This means you are stuck with that ROM for now.
I don't see your bugs on the rooted version of the HTC gingerbread ROM, so can't reproduce them.
Yes i know it cant root it, just showing what solutions i tried so far =)
And now im all out of ideas =(

Hi again and thank you for replying
Im sorry i get them two mixed up. But i tried revolutionary on my windows computer but dont remember what happend, error codes, other messages etc, all i know is it didn't work because i still wasent rooted. Thats when i tried unrevoked after. Iv tried alot of stuff using my windows machin but its not hooked up right now and im mostly only using my macbook.
But my main concern is not rooting atm, but the volume and car mode. I work in IKEA Logistiks and we work night hours so were listening to music while we work. Its a pain not being abel to adjust the volume =/

Sorry again and thanks!
Problem solved =)
Got S-off with revolutionary after borrowing a friends computer so something wrong with my windows machine maybe.
