External Battery Charger - Captivate Accessories

I don't know if there was already a thread about this, but I searched and didn't find anything.
So my USB port on my cappy is busted, so I had to buy this. I just got it today, but was disappointed to find out that it only charges the battery included (which I believe is a fascinate battery), and I can't use the other 2 batteries I have. The fascinate battery works fine, but I'd rather have 2 batteries to use for a backup. Could someone explain to me why it doesn't charge my cappy/i9000 batteries or any solution?
Edit: Also, nobody else seems to have this problem from reading the reviews.

Well the first thing that comes to mind for me is, are you sure the usb on your phone is busted? Maybe the problem is your original battery has stopped taking a charge. You said busted but I don't know if you mean physically as in you can no longer stick your wire in it, or just when you plug it in the battery does not get charged.
Busted isn't a concise enough description of the problem for me to be able to give a better answer.

I use the oem spare battery charger/stand and i love it.. Might want to try that if you dont get a repair or warranty done

Lol sorry, my usb port will not charge or sync at all. I also JUST ordered another battery, so unless my old battery stopped charging right when my usb port broke, and the new one I got was broken, I don't think it's a problem with the batteries. I just don't know why it would charge the fascinate battery and not my 2 cappy batteries.

But that is what I'm using? I'm waiting for connexion2005 to offer the repair, unless someone else wants to point me to another reliable repair service.

I just found myself in the same position as of two days ago (damned questionable design for the way the cappy's USB port is set and secured). Did you ever find out if there was a reason why you couldn't charge the batteries that originally came with the phone?
FYI: My timing for the 1 year warranty was awful in that it expired 19 days ago. As for insurance repair/replacement, I wasn't looking at replacing my cappy for approximately $125. So, after looking at doing a Walmart/Target deal, and then finding out they are still charging for tax, when it came down to costs I went with the external charger and replacement battery option after a lot of reading on the web, amazon, and then eventually to the posts on this topic....

Nah, I'm still using the one battery. Sort of a hassle (I can't use my phone as an alarm since I charge it overnight) but I guess I'm happy that I can at least use the phone. I'm still waiting for someone to offer a cheap repair though. It sucks not being able to put anything on my internal sd and having to use the ota miui updates, but it's better than nothing.

Wifi Explorer from the market is great for transferring files to and from the phone using a wifi network since USB is not an option for you.

IIRC the Fascinated battery won't charge in a Captivate and vice versa. They have different part numbers. I'm not sure of the techincal details but it has something to do with the different currents the two phones charge at.

Well that's a bit irritating. I guess then shouldn't have been advertising it as a charger for all phones, then.

I could probably do the repair work if pointed to the correct part necessary to replace the broken USB port. I fear one of these days my Captivate will suffer the same fate.
My qualifications: I do a lot of fine SMD/SMT reworking by hand. Mainly video game consoles and other consumer electronic goods. I have reputation/feedback on other forums as well as eBay if desired.

You are not alone, ordered mine (the charger only)
And it won't charge any of my batteries (2 OEMs and 1 that comes with the phone)
Now it sits there as a glorified dock.

Can't Charge?

I'm pretty sure this has been asked and answered but I just can't find anything to help me. My Incredible won't charge. I took it to Verizon and the person there said the port was bent. Is there anyway I can fix it myself or do I gotta pay the 150 I was quoted for the replacement on my insurance?

if the contacts are still soldered onto the motherboard properly, then you should just be able to bend it back. you may need to take apart the phone. If the contacts came loose, you will need to re-solder them (requires soldering skills as the points can be very small) or to replace it. Honestly i think you could find another incredible or a different phone for cheaper than 150.
I probably could but I have had bad luck buying phones online.
Im starting to have the same problem. I have to put my phone in weird positions to get it to charge. I've tried cleaning the contacts and air blasted it and still acts weird.

I can't even do that mine just wont charge..
I know it would be a pain, but buy a second battery and a wall battery charger. Then you can charge one battery with the wall charger while using the other and switch them back and forth. Its inconvinent, but a lot cheaper than a new port or a new phone.
Seems like the best option I can't afford the insurance or a phone at the moment

Question about sph-d710 and the I9100

My girlfriends phone has been acting strange. Showing that it is charging when nothing is plugged in, beeping consistently, and instead of shutting down it reboots. We took it in to Sprint and they said it has minor water damage in the bottom half. No insurance so nothing they could do.
It seems like an easy fix if I can find the part. It would be the USB Flex Cable I believe and its only $10ish dollars on ebay.
The problem I'm having is that I cant find the USB Flex Cable for the sph-d710 just ones for the Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100.
I emailed the seller of
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=321003355943&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123
this listing and he said "this should fit". I just want to be sure it is the same cable before I order it.
I cant find any tutorial so I'm just going to follow along with this
youtube.com/watch?v=aChzv3IzxsU
Video.
Any advice or tips on replacing the cable?
Is this the right cable for the job?
Thanks!

Was there any visible sign/ troubleshoot method to figure out it was the battery? Was the battery bulging and would spin?
Her battery is still flat so it doesnt seem like the lithium is leaking or anything.
Just trying to narrow things down before I spend money on a new battery.
Thanks for your quick reply
Edit: Also the water detecting sticker on the battery is still white so it doesnt appear to be water damaged.

You actually could get a battery cheaper off of Amazon than the eBay route your going. But I figured mine was the battery because I had a spare one to test with and as soon as I popped that one I realized it was the OEM battery and was failing with no physical signs other than performance and the fast discharge and random reboots. How old is her battery ?

Check the threads here a lot of people are having issues with the original battery. Seems they are all failing around the same time. But do a search on Amazon and read some reviews before buying a replacement battery but I personaly would recommended the 2 batteries plus wall charger for $20 its awesome you can use one battery while charging the other. Never have a dead phone again. Or just grab an OEM battery for about $5. Do you know any one that has a compatible battery to just test with?
One more thing you got this phone off of Craigslist is it rooted with a custom rom ?

[Q] Help! Wont charge, usb port is the probable culprit.

My verizon gnex usb charging port was acting wonky for a bit, so I had to angle the cord a certain way for the phone to charge. I saw the thread on here (via lifehacker I think) that said to bend the "tab" thing that can be seen inside the port upwards. That actually helped and the phone was charging fine for a week or so. Then a few days ago it just totally went kaputt and wont charge at all.
I called verizon and they wont help at all since my 1 year manufacturers warranty was up in december. And their customer service is really just a sales team as their first suggestion was to buy a new battery and "try" that, then they suggested I buy one of their used samsung galaxy stellar (Never even heard of it!) for $250.
So does anybody have any suggestions on how I could repair/replace the port myself, or get verizon or samsung to fix it?

You can buy a charging port off eBay. I bought one there for $16 with free shipping. Had to come from China, but I had mine in less than a week. Directions for procedure can be found on ifixit.

Thanks, I just found that ifixit article in the meantime. There are no reassembly instructions though which turned me off. I consider myself pretty capable at following instructions but dont have much experience in electronics. How difficult was it for you?
I was able to get mine working again, so I haven't actually replaced mine yet. I used a needle and cleaned all around the charging port, and also gently scratched pins with needle. Would recommend pulling battery if you should try this. It has been about a month and so far no more problems for me.
I have had the phone apart a few times and it doesn't look too bad though.
My USB port has been bad for at least six months. I tried fixing it and ended up shorting something inside the phone. Even the 3 prongs won't charge my phone. Says it is charging but battery won't charge. My solution. Bought two extra batteries and external charger. Love it. Battery dies and just throw in a new one and instantly at 100 percent. You could find a cell phone repair place and they can change the port. No soldering needed on this phone. Just make sure they order the vzw port and not the GSM. They are not the same.
thank you!

So far this solution has worked for me. I pulled my battery and gently scratched the top of the pins. The phone now charges like it is supposed to. The port must get I build up of gunk in there.

Third Party Battery Charging

I bought a couple of cheap Chinese replacement batteries for my Xperia Play just to see if they were any good. So far, they seem to be lasting a lot longer than the original battery, but I've noticed I cannot charge them using the phone (it seems I have to use the standalone charger that came with the batteries). Is there any way I can convince the phone to charge these batteries, or is there some kind of hardware lockout for third party batteries that I won't be able to get around?

It's probably not a hardware lockout, just that the batteries are cheap. It comes with it's limitations, I presume.

The thing is, if there wasn't a lockout, I would assume the phone would at least be trying to charge them. It doesn't even show the charging icon when I plug it in. It just sits there running off USB power without providing any charging voltage to the battery. It may very well be that since the batteries are cheap, the manufacturer didn't bother to put a correct ID chip in or something, though. I'm just wondering if there's something I can change in the phone's settings or in some configuration file, or if it's something I can't do anything about at all. I did change the capacity in build.prop to match what's on the label for the batteries, if that might have affected the charging capabilities in some way.
Okay, the second battery of the two did show the charging icon when I plugged the USB cable into the phone. Interesting. Of course, it was already fully charged when I booted the phone with the USB cable attached, so maybe that had something to do with it. I'll have to see if the behavior is the same once it's been run down a little.
You get what you paid for. Sounds more truerer than ever. No pun intended.

No need to lecture me, I knew I was probably headed for some issues. Just feeling optimistic, haha.
What's awesome is that they really do last a lot longer than the stock battery. Phone's been on for almost 5 hours now, I've been tethering over WiFi for at least two hours, and the battery is just over half depleted. My stock battery would be blinking the 10% warning after this amount of tethering.
Okay, weirdness. The second battery charges in the phone without any problem (I let it run all the way down this time, then plugged in the USB connection). I wonder if it has anything to do with the way the label on the first battery bunched up when I inserted it? Maybe that was causing one of the contacts to not make a solid connection or something. I'll have to try it out again later.

I'm sorry, I just re-read this, and I'm genuinely confused by your statement regarding puns. I'll accept it as true, but I'm not sure which part of the preceding statement could be taken for a pun. I mean there's 'more truerer', which is kind of a funny way to word things, but it doesn't call the word 'pun' to my mind, haha.
Alright, well, I tried it again with the label un-bunched, and I guess battery #1 is just defective. Battery #2 still charges happily. I'll e-mail the seller and ask if they're willing to send me another battery or give me a partial refund (although a partial refund out of $22 wouldn't be that much, haha).
EDIT: Alright, I sent the seller a message, and they're just going to send me a replacement battery. I don't even have to send back the defective one! I just hope the new battery works like the 'good' one of the two I got in this set, and not like the 'bad' one. If anyone's curious, these are the MPJ brand batteries available on eBay. At the price they sell for, and with the willingness of the seller to correct a situation like the one I got into, they're probably worth the risk.
I only wish I could say whether the batteries are better than a brand new stock battery. The battery I got with my phone was sealed and unused, but for some reason it was a year older than the phone itself, so it might have already been suffering from diminished capacity due to age. The MPJ batteries definitely last a lot longer than my phone's battery when I first got the phone back in January, though.

Any battery replacement success stories?

Has anybody personally found a good replacement internal battery that has full, or close to full charge capacity? Before anybody says it, I have replaced phone batteries before and have no issues with the risk and disassembly aspect of replacing the battery. I want to install a new one because my current battery dies so quickly anymore, but everywhere I look I only find ones with terrible user reviews. Can anybody point me in the direction of a better quality option?

No I ended up using the slightly-less-than-terrible verizon trade in offer on an s10. I got the plus because of the 4ah battery specifically although im already remember how much samsung's UI's blow compared to regular android... But if I had gotten one I would probably just get one directly from ifixit after reading some of the user feedback. Seems like they are mostly better received than amazon and ebay options.

Logos are marked out to do with customs, in many of countries they do not allow the importation of counterfeit products under copyright law, marking out the company logo bypasses this. Obviously if the actual OEM is selling their own batteries then this does not need to be done.
Any updates on battery life? I am looking to buy from the same seller for my Pixel XL.

Sorry for the late reply.
It was defective, it lasted a week before it would no longer hold a charge. It looked genuine, but I didn't want to deal with a replacement, so I ended up getting a refund, and going with ifixit for a replacement battery instead. I'm guessing I just received a lemon, the seller was solid with the refund.
https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Android/Google-Pixel-XL-Replacement-Battery/IF356-005
Expensive at $25, but it's been solid ever since. Holds a charge very well. I purchased the kit, since I can see myself reusing the tools in the future.
It matches the original bloated battery I took out the first time. It seems to be genuine OEM, the HTC logo on the battery is covered up by a black marker which you can remove with alcohol. You can even make it out a bit in their photos.

It matches the original bloated battery I took out the first time. It seems to be genuine OEM, the HTC logo on the battery is covered up by a black marker which you can remove with alcohol. You can even make it out a bit in their photos.

Thank you for the update!
I guess I will get this one probably, instead of buying the new Pixel 4 XL.. just to see how long it lasts... it still works damn good, and exactly why I chose Google phone over other cheaper contract phones!!
What do you think? any practical reason to get the 4 over a battery upgrade for this one?

Since Google decided to extend support for the OG Pixel/XL with Android 10, they left me little reason to upgrade to 4. They would have to come in at $700 (not going to happen) or less for me to upgrade, or else I'm staying put until next year's 5. There is also the "possible" Pixel 4a/XL to look forward to in 6 months.
I had to buy mine used to replace my OnePlus 5 that had a saltwater accident after 2 years of use. The used eBay pixel XL I bought seemed like it hadn't been used in well over a year based on the software update status. It was also on the beta program so it was probably an enthusiast who bought new and used it a few months and switched to something else throwing it in a drawer. Battery still seems as good as they were new, after months of me using it. Still not as good as the OnePlus 5 and doesn't charge fast but it's still a good phone. Camera is close to as good as anything out there. UI had more lag than the op5 but seems smoother in scrolling and general usage.
Hi,on my pixel XL my USB preferences stopped working and is stuck on charge. After trying different chargers and cables, my phone will only charge using a USB-A to USB-C. When I plug phone into PC, it will only charge, can't change it from charge. I was wondering if someone has had a similar problem. If so, did changing the battery fix this problem or has anyone changed the USB daughter board and that fixed the problem. If anyone knows of a fix for my problem. Thank you.

sounds like either firmware or port to me but someone else may be able to correct me. have you also tried on a different computer? could be the ports on there.

Yes, I have tried on a different computer, did work there either. What it feels like, my USB preferences are not on my pixel XL anymore. Like they got wiped off my phone. Thanks
