...so here I am.
I am using Baseband Switcher v4 on the retail nordic sbf that I got from this thread.
Build: JOREM_U3_3.4.2 177-5
Baseband Version: EPU93_U_00.59.01
Android Version: 2.2.2
Carrier: T-Mobile
I've tried:
US T-Mobile 3.4.2-107-4 (coverage, no data),
US T-Mobile 3.4.2-107-9 (which is my original stock Defy; coverage, no data),
US T-Mobile 6.xx.0 (no coverage or data),
and others.
I still can't get data on my phone. If anyone has any suggestions or knows of any threads that I may have not found while searching I would appreciate it. I am open to other suggestions. If I should flash another rom, I'm fine with that. I would like to avoid moving up to Gingerbread, but am open to almost anything to get my data back. Thanks, all =D
Change radio to your region: http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html (source)
No, set your APN first to get Data connected...
You can request it from your service provider.
Having the right baseband but without APN set properly will also give you no data line.

I contacted t-mobile earlier today and the customer service rep told me to "reset my apn to default". I did, but nothing happened. =( I'll call back tomorrow and take your advice, farsight73, although I don't exactly know how to phrase it:

Well that was it. Not wanting to wait until the morning to figure this out, I googled "tmobile apn" and found many instances of people not having the correct APN. So I found one situation that looked similar to mine, created a new APN entry called T-Mobile US with the APN as http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc. Next thing I know, I'm on 3G/H! YAY! Thanks again, farsight73, for the incredibly useful help! =D

Glad you solved it finally.. I also normally get my APN settings from google but still some time you need to obtain it from your service provider for latest update..

After messing for a while with the baseband switching and after believing my phone was blacklisted for some awkward reason - I switched to China ME722 - which actually holds the correct frequencies for T-Mobile in the USA.
Guess what - it works.
With the T-Mobile frequencies on the defy my sim couldn't register on the network...
I get only edge - but that's perhaps because there's no good coverage where I am now. I'll update with 3G and stuff soon.
Program very useful and solves many problems of network

hello everyone,
I have my GSM galaxy nexus running aokp_maguro_milestone4 , 3.0.8franco kernel and xxkl1 radio baseband. I used to have no problems with my phone at all until I went on vacation to Spain (I live in Germany) in Spain I had signal but ever since I came back my phone has almost (in the time span of 48 hour it had maybe 1 hour of signal) constantly no signal from my mobile provider (BASE). I have tried reflashing the radio ( I had xxkl2 so I reflashed that and then flashed xxkl1), I have also tried turning phone off and on and leaving it 1 night without battery. any help??
thanks
Check your APN settings, if they are correct try to make a new APN profile from scratch.
checked apn and they were OK. made a new apn with values I found online and still no luck? should I maybe just restore everything to default and flash the stock from?

APN settings are only for data. They do not impact signal.
Go to Settings->More->Mobile network settings->Network operators and either select "Select automatically", or pick one from the list.
Just a suggestion but maybe a whole different updated ROM flash might do the trick

Lmao I know but sometimes its just what's up. He didn't mention the ROM he's using. If he's that worried about this then its definitely worth a try. Like I said, just a suggestion. No need to slay ants over it

Hi guys,
So I am still having this problem, but an interesting thing happened. I decided to stick the sim card of my gf (she uses another carrier which supposedly uses the same infrastructure as my carrier) and I had full coverage. After that I changed the sim again and had coverage on my line, but after a couple of hours of bad coverage it just never found signal again.
So what on earth could possibly be wrong and what can I do to solve this problem?
I would consider a new ROM, but this doesnt seem to be the problem.

Maybe you should contact your carrier and get a new SIM or check if there is any known problems in your area.

Flashing stock ROM wont reset those settings. You will need to reset the activation on a stock ROM. I'm not sure of the code for that but its been in the treads a few times....
Which would be ##786#.....
Still no avail brother!

Have you contacted your cellular provider? If you changed some settings, most likely calling your provider to get the right settings will be your best course of action.

Any help?

As far as I know and someone else has already posted this... You can do a factory reset to bring the os back to a "out of box" state. But this in no way will effect, change or the dialer or radios. Those settings are set by the carriers.

Again, this is your original post. In it you clearly state that you "guess" you did the "##DATA# dialer code and" messed something with out my knowledge".
After rereading your original post again I'm thinking it really should have read this way...
"I went into ##DATA# and messed with some of the settings and didn't really know what I was changing." See the difference???
Those setting in "##DATA# or set by the carriers... They are there to tell the radios on your device how to communicate with and what frequency to use for the towers your cellular providers uses.
I'm going to assume that when you got your ET4G you had to contact your cellular provider to get it setup to use their service, right???
Questions:
1. If not how did you get it setup to see their towers???
2. Did they (provider) give you some kind of codes to enter in the ##DATA# settings???
3. If they did, do you still have them and have you tried that???
I've said this before... I really think you need to contact your provider and see if maybe they can re provision your radios.

The reset I mentioned is a "factory reset" ... But like I already posted... It will only delete all of your user data and reset settings like wifi, email passwords...
It won't reset the radios...
If you had already flashed these files to get your phone working when you got it, Don't you still have them???

hi everyone,
I got my S3 from Bell two weeks ago, it worked fine most of the time including calls, sms and data.
but occasionally for whatever reason the phone cannot make call or send sms, no ring for incoming call also. it shows "not registered on network" when I try to dial. at the time showing this error, there was signal on the bar.
maybe after long time, it can registered itself into network again, but most of the time, I just restart the phone and it works fine again.
I called Bell and they asked me to replace the SIM card, so I did, but I still see this error. So I think it is not SIM issue.
anyone has idea what the cause could be? or is there anyway to fix it?
I tried to search online before I ask, just couldn't find a solution so far.
so post here and hope anyone can help,
thanks for the help in advance.

I had this problems with rogers as well. Same as you I contacted rogers they told me to remove the sim and replace it. Worked for a while but kept happening. I got fed up and rooted then installed kyan rom and haven't had the problem since. Not sure if it was rom based or if the factory reset before flashing resolved the issue but haven't had it since. Hope someone figures this out though because it's annoying especially on a new phone that is stock.

Had this problem on bell a few times the first 2 weeks I had my phone. Went to the bell store and without hesitation they told me to change the mobile network mode from gsm/hspa+/lte
To just gsm/hspa+.
Reason given was the Lte network where I was using my phone (west island, montreal) wasn't strong enough. So my phone would switch between networks until eventually it got in that state. Personnaly I think the problem was more signal penetration into the computer lab I work in.
It's been 2 weeks stable so far. A co-worker reported the same problem to me last week and he took my advice and hasn't had the problem since.

Thank you very much for the tip. I was wondering that too, because I noticed that the network icon at top bar keep changing between H+ and LTE by itself. and I wonder why too.
I will try and see what happened.

SAMSUNG i747M not registered on network
I had this samsung s3 i747M from canada. Got it unlocked here in Pakistan. Placed a local sim in it. It recognizes the sim, registers it, makes calls, but then after a while, it shows "not registered on network". i restart, it registers network again, then loses it again. It keeps doing it. sometimes it is registered on network, but can't make or receive calls.
I have tried a number of things but the problem is not resolved and i'm fed up to the point that i want to throw this phone away.
The original rom had android 4.3
here's the list of things i have tried.
* changed the network mode to "GSM only" and "WCDMA/GSM (auto connect)" - NO USE
* Factory data reset a few times - NO USE
* tried a custom rom (it was so bad, i deleted it, don't even remember the name) - NO USE
* stock rom 4.4.2 from "sammobile.com" - NO USE
* tried flashing different modems from "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898" - NO USE
* tried changing the options from *#2263# to my network's specifications - NO USE
* tried sims from different networks - NO USE
PLEASE IF SOMEONE CAN HELP ME OUT HERE, I'M DESPERATE
@qamar_ish, what ROM is on your Samsung phone?
Originally it came with android 4.3. Currently it has this kitkat rom, which i downloaded from "sammobile.com".
the filename is this:
I747MVLUFNK2_I747MOYCFNK2_I747MVLUFNK2_HOME.tar.md5
It said on the webpage that it is the stock rom for SGH-i747M

Does your carrier require an AWS-compatible phone? Does the i747m support all frequencies provided by your provider?
I'm not sure about whether an AWS phone is required or not. But it certainly supports all the frequencies provided by the networks here. I checked it by using the code *#2263# and the options have the frequency supported by my networks here, that is "ufone" and "warid"
PS. I'm not an expert on this thing, whatever i'm doing, i learnt it during the last week..

Does your phone show the imei# from the dialpad? Is it possible there is something wrong with the phone's imei #?
It does show the correct imei when i dial *#06#. It had lost its imei initially when i got it unlocked, but got it fixed from someone.

Do you know why it lost the imei during the unlock process? Does the imei # in the phone match the imei # on the label under the battery?
I dont know how it lost imei. The guy who fixed it said that the imei is corrupted and he fixed it. Now it shows the same imei as on the back of the device.
I have never had a Samsung phone lose the imei if the phone was unlocked using a code, assuming that is how your phone was unlocked.
Did you try re-injecting the imei with the efs folder? It can be done using nvwriter.
Ok. I will try that. Can u guide me how to do it? Or share a link or something.

Hi,
I was previously using the Xperia T and it was a known fact that therering wasnt working on JB but was fine on ICS. I just got my Xperia ZL C6506, flashed it with firmware 10.1.A.1.434 and rooted the phone. Everything is fine but as soon as I click on Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot I get a pop up that says "Error occured during tethering". My LTE is working fine and I managed to get it working 1 time only with the app WiFi Tether that I got from the market.
I dont understand why tethering is so hard to make work on Sony phones.
Am I the only one that can't get tethering to work or is everyone else experiencing the same problem on this firmware??
Is there a fix or something I can do about it??
Thanks!

I'm with Rogers but they are definetely not blocking tethering. I tested by reverting back my Xperia T to stock ICS and tried tethering since it wasn't working on JB. Tethering worked great on ICS which rules out my provider. I have read somewhere on XDA that root was breaking some things on the phone but the only thing I found that needed a fix was the NFC which was fixed by removing a directory named /data/usf. via root explorer.
Is your phone rooted or stock?
Which build are you on...395 or 434?

Nah, not that I know of. It worked earlier on my Xperia T while on ICS firmware with the exact same APN settings. I tried calling tech support back when I was trying to get my Xperia T's tethering to work while on JB but the guy didn't even know what tethering was!! (thats tech support for ya).
I just flashed firmware 395 and same problem, I'm back on 434 but issue remains. I came across other people on Sony forums with the exact same error message but for different Xperia's. I need to flash the Rogers firmware back to the phone but I don't think anyone posted it and I don't have it. Starting to wonder if it's a hardware problem but very unlikely.

I just happened to be looking for info on tethering issues with xperia devices and I came across a couple of articles on the web talking about how the Jelly Bean upgrade for the Xperia T broke tethering for Rogers customers. Whatever the issue is, perhaps it is firmware and carrier (combined) related, given that not only did you have the issue on the T as others have, but now on the ZL as well?
Just a thought .

Yep, I was thinking the same thing.. that would have made sense but the error comes up even without a SIM card in the phone so no carrier. I did a factory reset again for the million time and I don't even need to have any APN settings, the error message comes as soon as you click the tethering option. Doesnt matter if the phone has a SIM card or APN settings.
I verified against a phone in a store that was with the Bell firmware, phone didnt have a SIM card in it and when activating tethering, all is good, no errors come up. The phone was running build 350.
I'm starting to think that it's a hardware problem.
So desperate! :crying:

The problem is the APN settings.
Check all the APN settings on your phone.
If one of them has "dun" in "APN Type" field, your phone will use this APN setting for tethering.
Either remove this APN setting completely or if you can not remove the setting as me, clear this APN setting field.
None of the APN settings should have "dun" on their APN Type field unless you want to set a different APN account for tethering.
APN Type "default, supl" for the main APN setting is enough for most of the cases. Please check with your operator.
Hope this will solve your problem.

I was actually never able to figure out what was causing this problem. The issue used to occur even without a SIM card or any APN setting at all. In my current APN settings, I have a "*" instead of "DUN" in the APN type.
The problem occurs in build 434 and I think 395. Build 253 doesnt give me any errors and tethering works. Also tried in build 423 and that also works. I wasnt happy with 4.2.2 so I flashed back to 253 and no problem. So somehow, 434 doesnt seem to like Rogers (carrier) or vice versa
I would really love to know what can possibly be causing this...
Hey everyone and thanks for taking the time to read this,
So the story goes as so: After doing some research couple months ago about the capability of the Verizon Galaxy S3 to work on T-mobile, i purchased it, and got it to successfully work on T-mobile(texts, calls, wi-fi). The problem is, i just recently upgraded to include a data plan, and i cannot access the internet, despite taking my phone to my cell phone dealer and contacting T-mobile.T-mobile even sent me a guide to do a mastery reset to factory in hopes to solve this problem, only to tell me afterwards that the phone version SCH-I535 is a "verizon locked-software" and i won't be able to set up an APN to work on the T-mobile network. This was all due to the fact that i was not able to set up a APN for T-mobile, and every time i tried to access it through setting, it brought me to a blank black page with the only option of "Reset to Default". After reading other forums and talking with some people, many have suggested i take this issue to XDA to find a solution.
So, here i am.....Does anyone know if it is possible for me to break/root/ or whatever it is called so i can successfully access the t-mobile network on my phone? Preferably an easier guide since i am sort of a newbie at this sort of stuff.
Thanks again for reading.
Before your Contract change, you were able to receive and make calls successfully with T-Mo Sim right ? Even now you can make calls too correct ? The reason I am asking this is to be able to check if you are really unlocked off of VZW. If you are not unlocked, then that would be the first step.
You are right, the APNs do drive Data Connection. If the stock firmware does not allow you to change APNs then you will have to root. Please post a screen of your Settings > About phone that shows your Rom Version, Baseband and Kernel.

Hey Perseus, thanks a lot for taking the time to reply. I bought the phone in the summer off someone who had verizon. I have always had T-mobile, and considering this phone is GSM, i decided to buy it because it would probably work for T-mobile. I had the phone unlocked, and i am currently using it to make calls, texts, and even use wi-fi with no problem. The only problem at this time is that i recently added a data plan which i cannot currently use. Here is a screen shot of what you have requested.
Thanks again
First try
Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Preferred Network Type.See what it is set to. Change it to LTE/GSM/WCDMA if needed. See the other option System Select as well.
Also separately try the following.
Hit ##DATA# in the Dialer. In the subsequent Menu choose EDIT > OTHERS > LTE APN
If all fails, please Root the phone and then try. The way you go about is
1. Flash a Custom Recovery via Odin. Make sure the version of Custom recovery is for your model D2VZW not D2TMO.
2. Flash a SuperSU zip file via Recovery and then hit fix permissions in the recovery.
Try the APN Settings after that. IF you can actually access them, then set them according to this link.
If all the above fails, I'd suggest a custom Rom for d2VZW.
You will never get 4g trust me I had one... you will just get the E

Ok, so i tried to changed it to LTE and i got no service at all, so i switched it back to Global. I also tried the dialer thing several times, and got the " connection problem or invalid MMI code"
So i guess i am going to have to root the phone? Does anyone know a good video tutorial or written tutorial on how to safely do this? Also, what exactly is rooting?

You have to enable the mmi codes to use them. Anyway as stated above your reply you will never get 3g or 4g just edge (seen it personally) which is pretty darn slow.. Not worth it if you ask me and be paying for data.. If you still want to root it and keep trying to add sons check the Verizon forums.. They could probably help you a lot more than on this side of the forums

Guys, he is not getting ANY data signal at all. His problem isn't getting the specific icon but being not able to change APNs.
@HackThisThing, you are better off following up on Verizon Device forum. That forum does have a video tutorial for Rooting. Here's forum link.
I don't think you will be able to change APNs without rooting. I checked with a buddy of mine who has the same device as you.
Here's a good answer to What is Rooting ?
Even if you CAN fix it, why bother if you can only get 2G? I'd sell it or trade it for a phone that's more compatible with T-Mobile 's network instead of paying for data and only getting dial-up speeds. I get that solving problems is fun, but OP do you want to live with only 2G?

I don't agree with that assessment. Just like the T999L phone, this device will work on LTE Bands just fine. OP just needs to wait for LTE to be rolled out in their area. There's a coverage map and roll out schedule on T-Mo website and the T-Mo News blog.
It's worth a look, but could still leave them with patchy coverage. If it's going to be a while, why wait when it's not hard to just trade the phone? I guess I don't see a reason why hold out on getting a Verizon phone to work when you could just get one that works now with little to no monetary loss. It's just a Verizon S3, not really something worth "waiting" for when they could get the same thing but more functional on their network of choice.
They made an honest mistake and waiting might give them "good enough" service - but other than that they're stuck with dial up speed only and risk bricking a phone they could just trade or sell now.
Maybe I'm just impatient and risk averse.

OP has already purchased this VZW version.
Same Problem...
I have the same problem....
How to get any type of data...?
