Got my wife's Evo 4G rooted and it's working. Now my daughter's rooted Evo 4G, been rooted since 7/10/2011 is messing up. When you turn it off and then turn it on it just sits on the HTC splash screen. It never completely boots up. Went into recovery, wiped the cache/dalvik, and tried to restore the backup. Rebooted, but it still just hangs on the splash screen like it did when you turn it on. Any help with this one? Do I need to un-root and take it to Sprint? If so, what do I need to download to the SD card, and a link to the file would be most appreciated, to flash to get it back to stock. Thanks, you've helped me once, I hope you guys can help me again.
You can just take the phone back the way it is. Tell them its not working and they won't even check or if the phone is rooted. They support rooted phones now.

Thanks. But I wonder why all of a sudden it decides not to boot up? My daughter said it has been taking a long time to turn on, that's why she has been leaving it on all the time? Could this have fried something? Is this a known problem with the 4G's? Just weird that it all of a sudden just crapped the bed.
Could be a hardware problem. Just take it in and get it replaced. That would probably be your best bet.

Hey all -- I am an idiot, first and foremost.
I was running an older version of CM7 and just bought an Evo 3D. I decided to sell my Evo 4G online, and went to unroot it. I ran the original software RUU (1.06.651.4) on the phone, (because I am dumb and didn't think things through) and now it is semi-bricked.
Symptoms:
The phone turns on with only a black screen (it is "lit up" but nothing appears on the screen).
The phone vibrates once, then the phone plays a sound (a little tune) to indicate it is booting up.
The phone plays a sound to indicate a low battery warning.
The phone plays a sound to indicate when I connect the USB cable to it.
If I try to boot to bootloader by holding Vol-Down when powering up, the black screen appears with no sound and no further action.
If I try to re-run the RUU, or run a different RUU, I get a USB Connection Error.
I can't run an RUU, I can't flash anything because I have no access to Recovery, etc.
Can anyone help fix my stupidity? I shouldn't have rushed into unrooting. Damnit.
Mmm. Interesting situation. I don't think you're screwed though.
Try this.
Pull the battery and let it chill for a minute.
Put it back in
Try to boot into bootloader again by holding volume down key.
Hopefully it will allow you to boot into hboot.
Report back how that goes

Have done combinations of 'remove battery, let sit, reboot (into bootloader OR regular reboot)' since yesterday. No change.
Smash it and get a replacement

All of those require the ability to access the bootloader.
But thanks.
I've had my evo rooted since i got a replacement back in oct 2010, never had a problem flashing roms, and trying different ones, i was running MikG 1.0 - 2.2 rom without a problem, the other day my phone fell on the carpeted floor, battery came out and everything, so i put it back in and powered on the phone, but i noticed, it just kept restarting after 10 seconds it was all booted up on the lockscreen, i can go into the phone and everything but it keeps restarting exactly after about 10 seconds.
Tried different roms but keep getting the same problem. Unrooted phone, and it was working fine, got it rooted, and kept doing the same thing, so i thought it had something to do with the kernel, so installed a different kernel from savaged-zen, but didnt get further the htc evo screen, so installed stock kernel, and then it was working fine running MikG 2.2. Decided to restart the phone, and then again the problem came back, doing the same ****, so this time i installed a stock rooted rom, and so far its been working fine. It seems my phone doesnt like any other roms but stock ones anymore.
Can someone please tell me wtf is going on? Thanks in advance.
Wow, thnx for all the support, you guys are great!!! (sarcastic)
What recovery are using? What mainly does it happen with? So at least the phone boots into a rom?
Also take a look at the SD card it could be loose. That happened to me on my hero it fell and kept getting boot loops the finally took SD card out and put it back in properly.

huh? why would he want that if he's rooted?
Because the hboot is used for newer installs and if its not right everything will not work correctly.

My Epic Touch is stuck on a constant boot loop, just showing the sprint screen over and over. I'm unsure what to do to fix this. I read to restore a factory rom, but unsure if such a thing exists or not...
Can anyone help me?
? Not enough info..............................................?

Was able to get help with this and posted instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17764140
Lately I've been really annoyed with phone, for some reason it just randomly reboots for God knows what reasons! Is this common or even a known issue ?
Are you running stock or a custom rom and kernel? I've never had a reboot with stock or on Starburst with lostkernel.

I dunno man, if that isn't happening without some 'aftermarket modifications', umm, I'd swap the damn phone. That isn't normal. I never get reboots unless I am overclocking on perf gov with everything maxed out...and that's pretty much it. If you are getting reboots just sitting there or dicking around on the internet that would be more than enough reason for me to take it in and swap it out...especially if you can reproduce the it for them.
Thanks for the replies guys, to answer your questions no I'm completely stock running stock kernel and it happens whenever I'm online or some apps will trigger it. I'd hate to restore but I think it's the only way
Ive had it a couple times.
It started after uploading app from market installing it while I was deleting one at same time
device crashed reboot took place.
From that point a had a couple reboots within days Touchwiz error displaying automatically going to phone keypad no escape from it.
I ended up doing factory reset fixed it all is well
did you by chance take an SD card out if another phone and pop it into that phone? if so, back up whatever data is on it, and try formatting it (if that cures the reboots, obviously something on the sd is corrupt and not cooperating with the system... dont restore anything from that backup you took after formatting) I would then try a facotry reset if the previous doesn't work. if the factory reset doesn't cure it, I'd swap the phone.

Thanks guys, I installed all the apps I could to the sd card. In other words all the apps were in the internal memory and that seems to fix the issue.
I'm not rooted and I'm getting random reboots.
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII EPIC 4g Touch on XDA Premium!
Okay, so i had the balck galaxy s 2 and it never had this problem, but i just got my white galaxy s 2 and every time i reboot, it freezes, and then comes up saying that power manager has crashed. Then nothing works, so i reboot and it does the same thing. I figured there was something wrong with the system, so i rooted and installed the Dewizzed rom, after 3-4 minutes of using it, it freezes, turns black, and then goes to the lock screen and it lost all conections to t-mobile/wifi. changed the rom to the juggernaut and the same thing happened.
Can anyone help? I don't know why this is happening. Never happened with my balck SGS2
probably just a faulty device dude.... return and get another is what I would do

Did you try factory reset? Wipe all data and cache before you flash a different rom?
I agree with the secobd person that posted an answer but theres another solution to it.... just get into download mode im sure you know how to do that... and use odin and flash back to stock... stock rom... that should fix everything.. thats what i do everytime something goes wrong with my fone...

There were problems on stock too. Plus for some reason, stock had a terrible lag. I gues if it doesnt resolve itself i will have to do another exchange (this is my 4th exchange) hopefully with mwc next month, t-mobile will get a few new phones and i will be able to get a working device . Anyways thanks for the help
