Hey there,
A friend of mine has an Xperia Arc, so i don't have huge knowledge with this device or any SE created Android ROMs. How ever, he likes to switch to CyanogenMod but he likes to keep all his app data (Games, notes and so on).
The device is on 2.3 so it isn't possible to root it without unlocking the bootloader. I have heard that if i unlock the bootloader, the phone will wipe itself so this isn't an option. But without root I can also not use Titaniumbackup or anything similar. How can i backup the apps and app data with adb (the strange thing is that on the Stock ROM, apps aren't in the folder where they are on my Nexus) and push it back to CyanogenMod 7?
Hi I rooted my SE xperia play (R800I) 2.3.4 using unlock root but I did not unlock the boot loader I was just wondering what can I do with a rooted phone with a locked boot loader and when ICS comes out for the R800I will it just wipe the root and install the update , when i choose to do so ?
Thank you
Lmr1342
I would like to know as well. What did you use to root the phone? I have a r800i and need to root it, I can't believe how locked down this damn thing is... WTF Sony!
First off, I always remove the useless apps that come bundled with the phone. Titanium Backup does a good job at this (always make back-ups if unsure)
Yes, updating to ICS once it's released will almost definitely remove your root. Then, you'd either have to wait for an exploit or unlock your bootloader to root
All depends on what you want to do.
As stated above, you can use it to back-up or delete apps that come pre-installed onto the device.
However, some apps off the Play Store require root access to perform properly. Take Font Installer for instance. Without root access it wouldnt work. I have my Play installed with the Sony Sketch (PlayStation) font and it looks awesome. Its a free app as well so give it a try.
Next, apps like Widget locker (allows you to add widgets to your lockscreen as well as change the slider) can use root access to prevent the app from being killed by the task killer.
If say, your Power button breaks and you need to reboot, you can use the Android Terminal emulator to reboot your device as well.
What you are best to do is search "root" in the Play Store or "root android uses" in Google
Hope I cleared things up a bit for you
My play store do not show any images!!no app icon showed,no review images, even in the main page only show black blocks (the only one that seem normal is the "sony" section,it still have the sony logo)
For the first few days I thought because the 3G service in my place got a problem, but now I try wifi and it still don't display any image or icon, but my friend phone, Xperia S use the same wifi at the same time do not meet the problem>>>my phone problem
Except that, the play store work completely normal, I still can download, got the update notification, I'm using play store ver 3.7.13
I'm using Arc S at 4.0.3 build 4.1.A.0.562,stock rom, stock kernel, rooted, no unlock bootloader yet
Please help me>"<
This might help you, but it requires having
-rooted phone
-unlocked bootloader
you will need to do the things above seeing as you dont have those requirements.
Once you have those requirements you will need CWM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gb3V7Oemurg&feature=plcp works on GB to) when you have CWM installed boot into it and hit these two options "Wipe data/factory reset" and "Wipe cache partition" (NOTE: this will remove all your data on your phone so make a backup if you need to).
Reboot your phone sign into the Android Market (google play) and see if its working... hope this helped

I recently unlocked my sony xperia ion which was on rogers network. Now using it with another carrier. Every time i start up the phone the rogers logo shows up and also there are a whole bunch of rogers applications which i cannot delete but can only disable for now.
my question is can I remove all the rogers software and logo from this phone?
Sony Xperia Ion LT28i, Android Version 4.1.2 ; Build Number: 6.2.B.0.211 Country Canada
Thanking you in advance,
Ash
Your xperia ion is branded ,
You can uninstall these rogers apps using apps like android tuner (root access needed)
Or you can completly debrand the device by flashing a stock FTF
Here are some instructions
(warning this method will wipe your user data (not whats stored on device music pics nd stuff will stay, apps wont)
(you can disable this)
Download Flashtool
Download Xperia ION flashmode and fastboot drivers
Download global generic 6.2.B.0.11 FTF
Click the lightning like icon
Find the ftf you downloaded and
Folow flashtool instruction
(if it says hold menu button it means Volume down when it asks you to hold it and plug in)
remove branded software
Hiand thank you for your promy reply, greatly appreciate it. I downloaded the android tuner and played aroundfor a while, did not come aross any referene to rogers, am i looking in the wrong place, any specilfic location to look for this item. once more need some help before i decide to flash the phone with the stock software. thanks once again

Simply flash a stock FTF, don't bother with removing all these apps as they are bound to leave some unwanted data behind.

So quick note - i didnt knotice "rogers" correctly ,what i do mean about that now is apps that dont arent of use to you or apps that are killling your batter, aka facebook , youtube, those can be reinstalled as a user app later
in android tuner you can go to apps and select system at the bottom and just remove any System app that isnt needed, anything with a complicated name is obvously core system , e.g. SystemUI
stuff like FB proxy can be remoeved because its a part of timescape and id doubt you would use that, well it seems no one does
Hello, my phone is Xiaomi Mi5s Pro (4/128gb variant), global stable rom, which atm has no screen assembly attached (phone dropped in liquid, managed to recover most of it, just the screen died) which is a bit of a problem- cannot really access recovery (or can I?) I'm controlling the phone through vysor app, unlocked bootloader. Now the issue- I rooted the phone a month ago, installed some apps and disabled few things through titanium backup (including few system apps which I need back, to backup my data for transfer to a new phone) and a week later the root got disabled after an OTA update, I tried rooting by flashing few different versions of supersu- no effect, I have no access to the recovery now anyway.
the question remains- is there any way to enable those apps again other than hard reset? I wanted to try the adb method, but this one also requires root, mayby there is a way of installing root through adb fastboot?
Any help apreciated :good:
