SuperUserInstall Issues?( SOLVED) - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Did the EVO 4G recent root instructions for 2.3.3
Downloaded Superuser from the link in the instructions and extracted to root of SD card and then installed. All programs requiring root say I have none (I do have S-OFF).
So, deleted the superuser stuff and tried to install it from the market. Says it installed fine but still I have no full root according to titianium,Rom Manager, etc.
Installed ROOT CHECK and ran advanced mode.
Says Superuser apk is installed.
The adb binary is set to default shell user access as a standard non root user
Standard su binary location:Is-I/ system/bin/su:
/system/bin/su: No such file or directory
Standard SU binary location: Is-I/system/xbin/su
/system/xbin/su: No such file or directory
Alternate su binary location:
/sbin/su: Permission denied
SU binary not found or not operating properly.
Any assistance out there?
Thanks in advance....

Flash the zip from recovery and it works just fine.
DUH

Having same issue I've tried several times to no avail and the duh comment was a bit juvenile and not at all helping

Rooted but not rooted???

Hey guys hope you can help, recently installed Stock 2.50.405.2 - With Root and everything seemed to be working ok, super user asked for permissions for apps had root access etc, but a few days ago this stopped happening so i ran root check and sometimes i had root access and sometimes not??? so rebooted into boot menu and it still says "ace pvt eng s-off" which i'm guessing means i'm still rooted? have looked in system/bin and system/xbin and both contain su, but clockwork mod gives a permissions error??? Can you guys help me figure out whats going on and how to fix it.
ps this was my first firmware flash.
You had a look at the Superuser app? Perhaps the apps in question don't have su permissions.
Long press the apps that are in there and choose "forget". Then any apps that require root access will ask for permission again.
Nope just tried that, forgot RomManager, started it and no request for SU permissions???
Have you tried uninstalling both of the apps and rebooted the phone and tried again?.

Root doesn't work.

hello all, i rooted my a100 via the guide, and the root checker says its rooted, but i cannot get into shell. When i enable filesystem browsing, it won't allow me. Not even a prompt from su.

Did you install superuser from the market?
Im having a similar problem. I can verify that su has been moved to system/xbin/su but busybox nor Superuser detects root... Ive used all guides I can find to work this.

Tried with no results
Did you update su binary?
Educate me, If you mean by trying to use superuser and update it through the settings, it was a no go.
I had a similar problem. It was showing as being in the /system/xbin folder, but I didn't have root. In my case, I was failing to move the su file out of the folder after extraction and put it in the /mnt/sdcard directory so the commands were just creating a blank su file in /system/xbin

How did you go about fixing the issue?
After extracting the zip I moved the su file (the one with no extension) from the extracted folders and tried the lines in the terminal again and it worked.

Ahh, Yea. Ive tried that already with no luck. It shows the file, roughly 25kb in the folder, but it also shows I have no root. Ive tried restarting, uninstalling superuser and reinstalling, etc...

Could you post what build number your running, also after you've run the commands for copying over the su and download superuser from the market, if you open terminal emulator up and type su what does it output?
Have you tried this???

yes, after i did what the guide told me to do. i have the latest version of Honeycomb given out via OTA update. now in superuser, i didnt update it, as it fails evey time. also, when i type "su" into terminal, nothing happens. im trying to put the build.prop that was modded recently, so i can get an app made for gingerbread onto here, as well as getting a PS3 controller to connect, but both need root. i just dont understand why the root checking app says i have it, when i really dont. guess it just checks for the su file in xbin? i really hope someone can point me in the right direction
First, I really need to know the build number "the latest one the ota can give" isnt sufficiant. It can be found under settings -> about tablet toward the bottom.
Second, saying "nothing happens" isnt true.. something always happens... either it just spit out another line with $ or the next line showed up with a #. How long did it take for the next line to show up after you typed su in the terminal?
The more details you can provide, the better I can help... this isnt directed at the above poster but all users in general.
One thing you might want to try is to uninstall the superuser app, then run this command:
/system/bin/cmdclient ec_micswitch '`rm /system/xbin/su`'
and then go back through the root process (or use my quick root script). The above command will get rid of any bad su file that might be in /system/xbin.

Upon typing in su in the terminal, is shows another line with $. Ive tried your ten second root yesterday looking for other options, but it says permission denied, even when trying to run from other directories. Ive even opened the root.sh file and copied the whole file and pasted in the term and every command gives a permission denied but the 3 commands that you see everywhere else. when typing in ls -l /system/xbin/su I get around 26000 bytes. So the file is there.

Can you try the attached su binary. I don't recall where I got it from since is been a while but I've had issue with 2.3.2 su binary before and the attached is what I use to root mine.

Proper root or not

When i first bought the t989, i rooted the phone manually by flashing cwm and the su.zip file. Everything seem to have worked then. A month or so back I updated the phone to ICS through the Kies Air application. I tried browsing through my root files and found myself unable to do so. I decided to check my superuser application and noticed another su apk. It wasnt the android face but a superman android icon (sua). I updated the binary on the sua and my phone started resetting on its own. I have flashed stock roms of ics and the problem consisted. Eventually fed up of the 4.0.4 version i flashed back to GB which seems better in phone performance.
Back into stock/unrooted T989, i flashed root again. However i used root checker pro and it verifies root access however I find myself unable to browse root files. Is there another possible way to check through? maybe via terminal emulator?
/--edit 10:28 AM----\
So i did some more searching and found the su command in terminal emulator and the "$" symbol changed to "#"
Im guessing I have root but browsing in the rooted files seems disabled in some apps

I'm having the same issues with 4.0.4. It's getting me pissed and contemplating doing 4.0.3 where I had access to system files via root explorer. I've been going through different ROMs on 4.0.4 to see if that would alleviate the problem. Ive tried updating su before and the binary which seem to have no changes. As for making su a system app, when i flashed unroot to root, su appeared without me installing. Also, su doesnt seem to appear in titanium backup
/----Edit----\
I'm returning my phone today to fix the broken power button, the stiffness of the D30 case may have caused this.
Is it possible to direct me to a fully working 100% root?

I'm kind of wondering if flashing back to completely stock via Odin, then trying all over again will do it? I know as soon as I did the Kies update from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 caused this issue on stock rooted.

Just Odin back to stock and then reroot. Its super simple. Maybe if you can get back to you recovery somehow you can just flash another rom and install it where you can have your supersu access back.

[Q] Superuser after OTA

Hi Everyone,
So I have updated to Jellybean (4.1.1) via the OTA update and my bootloader become locked again due to the update.
I have Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper installed so fortunately I was able to restore root and Superuser is working fine (so I thought)
Until yesterday, I install an application that would require root access and it appear to me that Superuser was not granting this access.
However previous application that has the access granted by Superuser is still intact.
I tried updating SuperUser binary and encounter the error "Gaining root access..... Failed"
It appears to me that new request for root access was not allowed anymore but previous granted access still works fine.
I do not want to unlock my bootloader again as this means everything will be wipe out.
Therefore Flash via CWM recovery mode is not an option for me.
As I still have root access on ES File Explorer, it there any possibility that I can manually update Superuser (or switch to SuperSU) using the ES File Explorer? Like copying the new apk over to the /system/app ?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks
So you can't use boot unlocker so on play store?

Maybe you need to fix permissions.
Did you have ROM Manager by any chance with root access granted? If so you could flash CWM from there, and then apply the latest SuperSU zip from CWM.

I see that the Permission of the SU from ES File Explorer is rwx r-x r-x . I believe this is already the correct permission?
I'm thinking if it's possible for me the get the latest binary for Superuser and replace the SU file using the file explorer. Will this work?
Unfortunately I don't have rom manager as well.

Those are not the correct permissions. The setuid bit needs to be set as well. What you posted is 0755, not 06755.

I just checked and you're right. (i only ever use root explorer.)
In a terminal window:
su
mount -o remount,rw -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /system
chmod 06755 /system/xbin/su
I would also symlink it to bin:

Strange. I have no idea what the problem would be then.
What I would do is boot up CWM, and re-flash an su package.
The permissions are fine: -rwsr-xr-x = 04755 and -rwsr-sr-x = 06755. Both will do the same thing.
Also I see nothing in the OTA package that would relock your bootloader. You're sure that's exactly what happened? If it did, maybe someone here could pinpoint the component of the OTA package responsible for this?

Looks to be a problem on su.
I download the latest binary and replace it using adb + busybox and now it works fine.
Thanks!

Try Chainfire's CF autoroot with SuperSU, including google play SSU update to App? It sounds like you failed to reboot into recovery first before doing a normal boot. After flashing via odin, the root is temporary and will be wiped during a normal boot, unless you first reboot into recovery. So, you have to uncheck the reboot after flash option in odin. After successful flash, pull usb cable and boot into recovery using three button method.
Did you use CF autoroot? Try it again.

I did reboot into recovery. I remeber the files I downloaded were named clockword mod and another was called superboot with cwm. Don't k ow if that helps.
I'm having a big issue though, I had tried fixing it by flashing dif ways, now whe I try tk flash it. When it loads up in download mode, my phone turns off or of ot doesn't do that, after I flash my phone and it reboots, it shows a red screen.
EDIT:
I just tried that root method you suggested and I still have the same issues. I don't know what to do!
EDIT 2:
I fixed it by using this site http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2013/12/Fix-Root-Problem-on-Android-4.3-for-Galaxy-S3-S4-Note2-Note3.html. Specifically, these instructions:
Download and install the latest APK for SuperSU like MrW0lf suggested.
I was having the same exact problem (unfortunately, SuperSU has stopped), so I downloaded the latest UPDATE-SuperSU file and extract it to have supersu APK, put it on my SD card in my phone and installed it from there.
It was strange because the version that was already on my phone was the same 1.89 version that I downloaded, but regardless, when I clicked on the APK, it saw it as an update, it asked to disabled knox, and worked like a charm.
- See more at: http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2013/12/Fi...y-S3-S4-Note2-Note3.html#sthash.0nlj3XHO.dpuf
PS: this is the root method I had 1st followed, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726960
