I hope some clever, kind soul can help me here. I just tried to backup my current rom using rom manager and now my phone can't mount my sd card or read my sim. I think it may have something to do with amonra recovery which I thought I'd failed to install but now appears when I go into recovery. Even when I mount a different sd card the phone can't read it. I think I'm well out of my depth here but am crossing everything hoping for assistance.
Okay I've read and read and read for the last 3 hours and I'm still totally clueless. The phone won't connect to pc either. Any help would be appreciated. Time for 3 hours sleep now
Classic USB Brick. Don't worry, try this: http://android.modaco.com/content/h...com/309939/usb-brick-rickrolled-b0rked-fixed/
Thanks but I'm confused. My hboot is 0.93 and when I follow the next link it seems to suggest I need to downgrade hboot. Is this right or am I being really stupid?
Or is it this I should be following:
2. Enable the SD Card functionality. Boot your phone in FASTBOOT mode (back + power), and enter this command: 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' . This will re-enable your SD card.
If so, I don't understand how to enter any command here. There is no option to enter anything. Once again any replies would be very welcome
You have to install Android SDK in order to issue those commands. http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Okay thanks for your patience. I'll do that next. Don't leave me

That's windows for you. You do have a 32 bit system, right ? Try rebooting your PC. You have installed it in the default location c:\Program Files\blabla..
Yes it's a 32 bit system and I installed to default location. I've checked java update too and have the latest version. I rebooted but to no avail. I don't think my mum can help with this one....

Try uninstalling SDK and Java, reinstall Java and after that SDK.
will do. As an interesting sidenote my phone won't charge from mains only via usb connection and even that's sporadic
Still the same unfortunately. How frustrating!

Try running it as "administrator".
You can use the ZIP version , unzip it , then dowload the tools using the manager , or download only the tools package
little trick :
If you want to use the installer anyway , hit the "back" button when you get the java error , then next again . The error should vanish. worked for me

It seems to be downloading a whole bunch SDK platforms quite slowly. Does that sound right? Thanks again btw
well... no...
You just need the tools , not the whole developpement platform.
Just select the SDK tool in the package window

I would uninstall the drivers, restart and reinstall them.
Double check that Debugging is on.
Also make sure you don't have anything like HTC Sync installed.

If you have a friend with a mac, its much easier on there with www.unrevoked.com.
Either way, I recommend www.unrevoked.com.

+1 on the unrevoked method and a Mac. If you dont have a Mac its still pretty easy just remember to install the Hboot driver and your good to go. You will be rooted in under 5 minutes.
no mac but ill look at unrevoked. but i think my issue is that my phones usb port is a bit wanky maybe. you know like i have to have the usb cord held in the sweetspot for data transfer. Its easy enough to do though. but i noticed that yes in settings my usb debug is on, but that the icon doesnt show on the like task bar or watever you call the bar at the top of the phones screen.
the autoroot "kills htc sync" thats the first thing the batch file does but ill uninstall the htc sync and NOT the driver then try one more time then look at unrevoked.
Wish me luck lol
well did a bit of trouble shooting T_T my phone is just more broken then it used to be. Well is there anyway to root withough using usb? I think i might make a new thread for that question though.
Hi
I seem to be having a problem rooting my Xperia Arc.
I'm trying to run : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320350&page=12
And first I got the error message : Adb out of date, but re-tried.
The second time I did it, I didn't get that message but now it just says waiting for device...
Nothing else happens - I have followed all the instructions and can't see anything wrong.
Any help appreciated...
Go to task manager on the PC and end any instance of adb, then try again.
If the above doesn't work just copy the
adb.exe
AdbWinApi.dll
AdbWinUsbApi.dll
From your adb folder and try again
Hi, thanks for the replies.
I tried killing the process but made no difference.
I went through and had another read around and followed the adb guide to make sure I had everything, downloaded things and tried again.
I now get a message adb is out of date, killing.
But then says Daemon started successfully, then does nothing.
I don't seem to have those files any you mentioned anywhere??
If you was following that thread you must have those files, also you must have adb SDK installed you are getting that error because the adb files in the link is different versions to what you have installed so just move the files named
I did it the other way and created files folder in program files\android\sdk with the files from the root package and put batch file in the main directory.
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
Absolutely no idea then, It said it downloaded stuff, but no idea where it is. I have file searched but brings up nothing.
I do have the SDK yes, but there is no folder in there called usb or anything.
I'll try re-doing it all again from scratch, see if it makes any difference..

Knightlore,
I seemed to have had the same problems as you. Much as I thought I was following instructions, I just couldn't get it to work.
One of the threads I was reading had a link to a flashtool thread(I can't easily link to it at the moment as not on computer). Anyway, it said that the Zergrush exploit was now in Flashtool, so I followed those instructions and it was really easy to root phone.
HTH.
I think it is this thread I followed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
Still encountering the same problem, I have re-done everything from scratch and I still get the same error. Anyone else got any ideas please?
I've managed to root all my other phones, but for some reason this just won't work...
Here is an interesting article that will help you if you want CRT screen Off animation like in Nexus S:
http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/enable-crt-animation
Worked with no problems on my SGC with Rogers ROM.
I actually used NinjaMorph to package the modified resources.arsc into framework-res.apk, but I assume the original method will work too.

Probably no. Most likely you will end up with phone freezing on the Samsung logo at boot. framework-res.apk files are not interchangeable between models, maybe not even between firmware versions for the same phone.
Can you post a step by step guide then? I can't really understand anything here
The step-by-step instructions from the link in the first post are pretty much what i did. Read the comment by ravenstark - if you mount the filesystem with root explorer there will be no need to execute the commands in red in section 8.
The instructions from the link in your post cover steps 3-7. You still have to download the file to your PC (1), decompile it (2) and upload it back to the phone once you are done with it (8).
For the first step which terminal do you use??
(Free Your Android guide)
adb. If you don't have you can download it from here. It is part of the SDK and probably the most essential tool.
The command is exactly as written there

What do you mean? If you're using a Windows PC, then just open up a cmd prompt. You should read the guides at the beginning of that page so you know how to setup adb and the apk tool.
The big picture is this. Connect your pc to computer, pull file from phone to PC using adb, modify file on PC, push file back to phone using adb.
For what it's worth, here's a thread I wrote quite a long time ago, some is not applicable for the Glide, but most of it still applies. If you're going to be mucking around in your phone it's best to know how to do a few things first. Read Before Flashing.
When I try and open SDK or AVD (what's the difference :| ) then I just get a quick terminal screen that closes.
It would be appreciated if someone could just create a flashable CWM version >_<
I hate my inexperience @ this. It keeps saying this isn't "adb" isn't recognized, but I've downloaded it! How can I check?!

Ok, so what have you done so far?
What should be done. Assuming you're using Windows, install the Android SDK. Once installed, launch the SDK Manager. Then from the list of installable options, choose the Platform Tools and I always like to get the drivers. Once done, you will have this path, CrogramFiles(x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools, now you could add this path to your variables in Windows, which would be easiest, or copy the Platform-tools folder to C:. Then plug in your phone via USB to your computer.
Now, if you added the Path to your variables, just go Start>Run>cmd, and at the cmd prompt type adb devices. If you see a device you're good.
If you copied the Platform-tools folder over, then Start>Run>cmd, and in the cmd prompt type,
C:
then
cd platform-tools
then
adb devices
Beyond that, can't really help, never use apk tool. Good luck.

Attached to this post is a CWM update with CRT Screen OFF and battery icon with percent for ROGERS ROM. I'm not sure this will work on AT&T ROM.
Make a backup before applying this update so you can restore if you end up stuck on SAMSUNG logo on boot.

Hopefully the file tcfx44 posted works for you. Either way, I highly suggest you learn how to use adb and some other tools if you plan on flashing your phone in the future. It could prove useful some day.
Will this apply over OsiMood? I really am not sure if I am using the Rogers, but apparently I am because in XDA App it says I927-R and same with a benchmark.
Doesn't work for OsI mood 2.1.30 or whatever version was released today. I don't want to give up the amazing UI and stuff of OSi. I'm working fine though, so doesn't look like the install failed or bricked. Any revisions?

I apologize. I heard that in some cases, not even that could fix it. I meant to say that there is not a fix that works in 100% of scenarios (my three-vibe could not be rectified without the use of JTAG, which I did not want to get into here.)

What you need to do is download ClockWork Mod 5.0.2.8 from http://download.clockorkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvelc.img and then rename it to recovery.img. If you're on Windows, put it into the same directory as your ADB and fastboot commands. Next, you'll need to put your phone in fast boot mode. Go into HBOOT and choose "Fastboot" by scrolling with the volume keys and selecting with the power key.
Connect your phone to your computer.
Next, depending on the OS of your computer, launch Command Prompt (Windows) or Terminal (Linux/Mac). Navigate to the directory with recovery.img. Now type: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and then power off your phone when it's done.
Now boot into recovery. Go to HBOOT and choose recovery. Now, get on your computer and find a ROM that you like (something fairly stable). Download it. Find Simon's super wipe. Download it.
Connect your phone to your computer (if you removed it earlier).
In recovery, scroll to Mounts and Storage. Go to USB Connect or something similar (it will be near the bottom). Then on your computer, place your desired rom and the super wipe. Remove the phone from your computer and choose "Go back" on your phone. Go back to the main menu.
Backup.
Flash the super wipe. Then flash your ROM.
Go back to the main menu and reboot.

Great!! thanks this seems legit I will try this as soon as I get to my PC uhm I have windows btw and have no clue how to put the cwm into my adb / fastboot directory but I will search more about it when possible thanks for your help
Well, if you're on Windows, you should have a directory like C:\Android\ or something like that.
If you're on a Mac just do:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery /path/to/recovery.img
If you want to have the file anywhere on Windows, you still need to have fastboot somewhere and then do the same command I just typed above.
For more instructions, follow the instructions in the guide under "I can't flash a custom recovery"

Tried unzipping the sdk file again then went to the android tried to launch and same result I'm on (windows 7 64x bit).
I downloaded something when I was searching forums that kind of sounded like the file I'm suppose to be downloading the platform tools but there called android tools instead here's the files in it below
adb

AdbWinUsbApi.dll
fastboot
Do you think this is the same thing? I've flashed roms on the Optimus V before so I am a little familiar with the platform tools but when i downloaded them last time I just have to go into SDK manager.

I'm glad to hear you got it working!
A thought just occured that I may have overlooked in my many (unsuccessful) attempts of curing a sent-to-me 3 vibe...
Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but sd needs to be made a goldcard; so that PG76IMG.zip will auto-load...
Been a long time since I attempted but I don't remember if I checked the sd to make sure it was goldcard'd. I will go charge it up and test this new theory tomorrow (still sitting in a side-basket at work). Sometimes my mind takes a minute to put ALL the pieces together

Right, a Goldcard (unless one is S-OFF or ENG) will be required. However, achieving a goldcard requires ADB access to your phone. (The Simple GoldCard tool reads a file in /proc/*/*/ I believe to get the CID required for goldcard.) Now, ADB access is quite difficult with a bricked phone as you cannot boot into Android (or recovery) and to get S-OFF you would need to borrow the HTC Wildfire S (it MUST be a Wildfire S) to get the goldcard required.
Even with what I just said, depending on how bad your phone is bricked (Flashing a GSM RUU, for example), you may have a 100% bricked radio, thus resulting in an entirely bricked HBOOT not allowing you flash a PG76IMG.zip.
Another idea I have is that the Marvel is a PG761**** for the model number, and an incorrect RUU is the most common brick for Marvelc. What may be an issue is that the Marvelc is a PG762**** model number. The current files we have for un-bricking are Marvelc, but the android-info.txt for modelid says PG762000, therefore a GSM HBOOT (especially a locked, RUU HBOOT) would not take that file as it is for Marvelc.
What I think would be necessary is: a goldcard + a PG76IMG.zip with a GSM android-info.txt, but Marvelc radio, ROM, HBOOT, etc.
This is my idea on how we may need to do this. However, as the GSM HBOOT cannot get S-OFF without XTC-Clip which we can't use due to a lack of SIM card slot.
To get a 100% working-in-all-methods 3-Vibe Brick Recovery Method, we are waiting for the people in the S-OFF thread to get a full software S-OFF. However, even with that, we may still have issues...
I have spent a lot of time thinking about this, actually. (I'm a planner; not a dev :crying: so I can't be of much help with the dev part.) However, if it ever becomes a Team BlueRidge project to fix this type of brick (or a project by any group) I will be happy to plan (but not test just yet).
Since now we're moving into a very difficult and not-so-noob-friendly as I am intending for this thread to be, it may be a good idea to either start a new brainstorming thread or to PM or IRC or something.
Anyway, those are my thoughts.
