I hope some clever, kind soul can help me here. I just tried to backup my current rom using rom manager and now my phone can't mount my sd card or read my sim. I think it may have something to do with amonra recovery which I thought I'd failed to install but now appears when I go into recovery. Even when I mount a different sd card the phone can't read it. I think I'm well out of my depth here but am crossing everything hoping for assistance.
Okay I've read and read and read for the last 3 hours and I'm still totally clueless. The phone won't connect to pc either. Any help would be appreciated. Time for 3 hours sleep now
Classic USB Brick. Don't worry, try this: http://android.modaco.com/content/h...com/309939/usb-brick-rickrolled-b0rked-fixed/
Thanks but I'm confused. My hboot is 0.93 and when I follow the next link it seems to suggest I need to downgrade hboot. Is this right or am I being really stupid?
Or is it this I should be following:
2. Enable the SD Card functionality. Boot your phone in FASTBOOT mode (back + power), and enter this command: 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' . This will re-enable your SD card.
If so, I don't understand how to enter any command here. There is no option to enter anything. Once again any replies would be very welcome
You have to install Android SDK in order to issue those commands. http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Okay thanks for your patience. I'll do that next. Don't leave me

That's windows for you. You do have a 32 bit system, right ? Try rebooting your PC. You have installed it in the default location c:\Program Files\blabla..
Yes it's a 32 bit system and I installed to default location. I've checked java update too and have the latest version. I rebooted but to no avail. I don't think my mum can help with this one....

Try uninstalling SDK and Java, reinstall Java and after that SDK.
will do. As an interesting sidenote my phone won't charge from mains only via usb connection and even that's sporadic

Try running it as "administrator".
You can use the ZIP version , unzip it , then dowload the tools using the manager , or download only the tools package
little trick :
If you want to use the installer anyway , hit the "back" button when you get the java error , then next again . The error should vanish. worked for me

It seems to be downloading a whole bunch SDK platforms quite slowly. Does that sound right? Thanks again btw
well... no...
You just need the tools , not the whole developpement platform.
Just select the SDK tool in the package window

thanks for the help but the first link doesn't work
Which link? They work fine for me.
I got as far as step 23 in the 30 step process from XNeckFaceX but I don't see a option for select the USB-MS toggle, just the 6 wipe options. Should I have loaded the new rom flash first. I can't even power down or get out of the wipe menu. I am afraid if I remove the batt I could not reboot. What to do?

Hopefully by now you got through everything ok. If you are using Amon_Ra recovery, USB MS is on the main menu. Press both VolUP+DWN at the same time to go up a menu.

It doesn't get any easier than the Simple Root Guide. Try that one if you have trouble with any others.
All you do is download one zip file and run the EXE (making sure you have .NET framework and HTC sync installed first), click each button for each step. And done.

This usually means you need to enable USB debugging, step 2 didn't work, or you need to flash a custom ROM. To test root type "su" in a terminal. You should get "#" back. If you get that try enabling USB debugging or flashing a custom ROM. If you don't get that flash a custom ROM.
I've noticed a few posters on here are from N.Ireland and was wondering if any of you would root my phone? For a fee of course?
I'm a complete noob at this, I've spent the last four days reading guides and I just can't get it to work. Can get the tinycore linux working on my macbook but can never get past entering this in the terminal:
sudo mkdir /mnt/cdrom
sudo mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
cd /mnt/cdrom/desire After I press return here I get an error.
So I've now thrown in the towel and was hoping a local Android geek could help me out lol
Cheers
Joe
Are you using the TinyCore Live-CD from the MoDaCo guide or the r4 one posted by craigcrawford? the latter had an edited TinyCore build made which was slightly different to the normal one originally posted...
Have a read of this guide, by craigcrawford, never fails to work (so long as you download the right Live-CD - check your HBOOT and download accordingly):
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...sire-easy-rooting-guide-with-tiny-core-linux/
Thanks for the reply, yeah thats the one I'm using. Could it be my tinycore setup? I can't get it to boot from CD so setup a virtual machine on my macbook and ran tinycore through that.
Sorry if that doesn't make sense, I'm a complete noob at all this
Not being an Apple man I don't know if you can boot a Live-CD using a Mac but shouldn't see why not!
Also don't see why a VM wouldn't work but again I've always used a PC and it boots fine so might wanna see if you can borrow a Windows laptop and use that (or, if you're ever in Liverpool, come see me and I'll do it)
Ok going to try it again, I had already installed Linux VM before I downloaded the r4 and didn't know there was Tinycore ISO included with it.
So I've setup a new VM with the ISO from craigcrawford and I'm going to try it one last time. Just want to check something before I start, my phone is unbranded so I'm not using a goldcard do I need to put the rootedupdate.zip on the SD card before i start?

Correct, no Goldcard required. Should take about 10 mins all in (did for me on a W7 x4 Ultimate-based machine). Good luck!!
Cheers Eddy, here goes! I'll post how it goes!
Ok getting a bit further into it. Says rebooting into bootloader... FAILED
but then says Step 1 complete and gives instructions on how to continue.
I'm confused
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Forgot to add, my phone didn't do reboot nor did the screen change at all
Yeah thats not working correctly...something's not right, be it running through a VM or otherwise...
I'd say it might be worth asking advice on (or taking a look at) the rooting guide on MoDaCo as more people there can help (and it works from within a Mac natively)
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...e-now-with-hboot-0-80-and-os-to-1-21-support/
Ok Eddy thanks for your help mate.
Going to phone round a few repair shops in belfast and see if they can do it! It's really started to p*ss me off now!
Would they want to do it, though? I doubt they'd want to potentially brick your phone and have to buy you a new one
What HBOOT are you running on btw?
Well I know of one shop that jailbroke a friends iphone so I'm going to try them to see if they'll give it a go!
I'm running HBOOT 0.80
Right, here's a little guide for a Mac:
- First, download THIS and extract it on to the Mac equivalent of the Desktop
- Copy the 'update.zip' to your SD card - do NOT rename it
- Now open a Terminal window (go to Applications>Utilities, double click 'Terminal' icon) and change directory to the extracted folder. Turn your phone on holding down the back button and you should be in the FASTBOOT screen. Plug your phone into the Mac and it should then read FASTBOOT USB
- In the terminal window type './step1-mac.sh' (without ') and when it finishes it will take you back to the FASTBOOT screen. Press the power button and it will change from FASTBOOT to HBOOT USB
- Select 'Recovery' and when at the screen with the red ! hold vol up and press the power key.
- Select 'wipe data/factory reset' and once complete select 'apply:update.zip' and once this is done reboot the device and you should be rooted
"Now open a Terminal window and cd to the extracted folder"
Eddy I haven't a clue how to open a terminal window and cd to the extracted folder, thats why I was trying the Tinycore guide.
Sorry for being such a noob
*Updated guide above
Don't know what else to put as I'm a Windows man, never used a Mac
Ok think I understand that. Just waiting on the r6 to finish downloading then I'm going to have another crack at it!
Thanks for putting that together Eddy, much appreciated.
Joe, if you are still stuck I should be able to help you out tomorrow free of charge. I think your bootloader is the same version as mine (can't remember off hand) so I still have the files on my netbook to do it, or at least should have.
Still can't get it to work.
Kerso, I'll take you up on that mate, Where abouts are you?
Eddy, thanks very much for your help mate
I am a Mac user but rooting is loads easier on a Windows machine, had mine rooted in no time using a XP based PC.
To open a Terminal window, just click on the magnifying glass search icon type in Terminal and it will appear in the list of matches, just double click it.
CD = change directory in the terminal, that's all. ie CD to the directory where you downloaded the folder it to.
Trouble I had was that OSX was unzipping the downloaded file on completion, I'm not sure how to stop it doing that.
Ive tried to s-off my Wildfire like 3 times. The first one i failed cz i chose HBOOT 1.01.0001. The second one it was stucked on Acquiring Root <method 1> then i waited, then it said click anything to exit. after that my third times, it doesnt detect my handset.
Does it mean my WF already s-off or what?
Thanks a lot to who has answered my question
You can check the HBOOT version by pressing Vol - and power when turning it on.
i already know its 1.01.0002
But then when i tried to do it again, the alpharevx doesnt detect my phone. it only said : Android
Then it wanted i put the serial
nvm, it detects now. But it stucks when it says Thank you for participating

No. It detects it almost immediately. Possible solutions:
- Make sure USB Debugging is On, as already said above
- Redownload the AlphaRev X Executable file
- Make sure Drivers are installed and working properly. There are 2 aspects to this:
1) Install HTC Sync, and, Uninstall it. The ADB Drivers will be installed
2) The HBoot Drivers are next. Guide to install that is here:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install

now rise another problem.. alpharev x can detect myphone but when i enter the beta key base my serial no it says invalid beta key...
im pretty sure i enter the right serial key and the right beta key..

Hmmm which rom to test getting bored of cm7
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA Premium App
There are two possible solutions there again. But, before that, make sure you have entered the right details (Right Serial Number (HT0....), Right HBoot Version, Right Device Model).
Once you are sure these are correct:
- Solution 1 - Copy the beta key in your clipboard from the website, then right click the title bar of the AlphaRevX Application, Click Properties, then check mark Quick Edit Mode. Then Right click anywhere inside the window, it will paste the key.
- Solution 2 - Redownload the AlphaRevX Application from the website and retry.
EDIT: Ninja'ed, Oh well.
lol sory mymistake... actually i really put the wrong beta key...
now that i hve S-OFF myphone what should i do now... sorry i really dont know anything..
Two ways again:
1) Follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130044
2) Use Fastboot (Which I used)
- Download Android SDK - http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
- Download ClockworkMod Recovery - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1014498
- Extract the Recovery.img file from the 2nd link, and place it in your SDK Setup Path / Tools (eg: C:/android-sdk-windows/tools)
- Open a Command Window (cmd)
- Browse to the tools folder in this Command Window
- Type the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
- It will install ClockworkMod Recovery, you are done.
Then, simply follow Part 3 of this guide to install Custom ROMs and Stuff, irrespective of what you followed above.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824396
i hve download the sdk there are 2 package android-sdk_r11-windows.zip and installer_r11-windows.exe..
so which one should i run??
i dont understand this part [- Extract the Recovery.img file from the 2nd link, and place it in your SDK Setup Path / Tools (eg: C:/android-sdk-windows/tools)]

EXE File.
That post simply means, that when you have completed installing your SDK, then, there will be a folder called "Tools" at your install location. Copy Paste the Recovery.img file to the Tools folder.
ok now i hve copy the recovery.img into tools
then open cmd right?? now what??
Hi,
HTC Desire running 4.1.2 CyanogenMod CM10 4.1.2 VJ
I've spent hours searching threads and waited for days just to get the chance to download a linux OS to install on my Virtualbox as I have a Mac that won't run Revolutionary. (I have no download allowance left on my broadband and now I'm stuck with the first Linux OS I got, which is Mint Cinnamon 14) + I have no access to Windows or a copy of.
I need to repartition my SD card as my phone started going into boot loops over the course of a few days and I had to keep popping the battery, but then the SD ext got totally corrupted after flashing Jellybean 4.1 and my trying to get a2sd to work.
I can still turn the phone on and use jellybean as my phone has the superuser app and was partically rooted with unrevoked, it's just the phone is not S OFF and I need that to be done in order to run the program I bought called Ext4 Recovered, as I'm stick of Gparted messing up my Mac's startup drive and auto booting as Gparted, and I liked the touch scren features of Ext 4 Recovered.
Ok so that's background.
I finally got Linux Mint to install and downloaded Revolutionary to its desktop. But it wouldn't unzip, so I right clicked, extracted the file and saw the program.exe but that won't open ethier. Followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192806 but that doesn't work i.e going in terminal.
It said following:
[email protected] ~ $ sudo ./revolutionary
sudo: ./revolutionary: command not found
[email protected] ~ $ ./revolutionary
bash: ./revolutionary: No such file or directory
[email protected] ~ $
Linux can see my phone is connected but I can't run the program!
Am so tired of having no phone functions, been a week now! Please can someone help me get this program to work on my Mac's Virtualbox?

you did cd (change directory) to the path of where you extracted revolutionary right? Also, it shouldnt be an .exe so make sure that you downloaded the one for linux not windows.
Btw i just tried it using using Mint 14 and it opened fine.
Try downloading it again. heres the linux version: http://revolutionary.io/revolutionary-0.4pre4.tgz
Put it into your downloads folder, then right click and extract here
Open terminal and run: cd ~/Downloads
Then run: sudo ./revolutionary

So I charge in, all fired up with your advice thinking 'Yeah I can do this!' Download the link you pasted, extracted file to downloads folder, it is the same file as I had. Then Linux messes it all up!
I can't see any applications menu on my version. The bottom status bar has nothing. All I can do is navigate folders like desktop, pictures, I could get on Firefox but then the screen keeps going small and showing multiple desktops and I have to click the window I was working in again. RIght clicking on the Rev file and selecting terminal does not open terminal, I can't find a list of programs separately to open Terminal either. Then the whole thing stopped responding to be and crashed.
And to make it all the worse. I have to go horse riding with my other half's young nephew when it's snowing and I am am not a horse person who likes horse riding! I just want to stay in and fix my stupid phone!!! RANT RANT sorry btw.

I may be able to get Windows actually. I'll see. Just can't upgrade my broadband allowance to try different Linux's as provider wants a new 18month contract to do so and I'm off to out the country for a few months soon so no point.
Meanwhile though if any uses Linux Mint 14 and knows how to get it to show the programs installed like Windows has in its start menu, I'd appreciate it.

Revolutionary doesn't install ROMs...it gives you s-off and a custom recovery.

OK so I managed to find an old copy of Gingervillian 2.3 (F1-GB-V3-(ENG-A2SD)-Signed 2) and flashed that because Jellybean wasn't having it, with previous error.
Gingervillian runs fine. Checked I had USB debugging on and did a NAND backup. Downloaded the Superuser app from the rev.io website and put that on my root of my sd card ready.
Ran Rev.io on LINUX Mint in terminal, so don't need the fastboot drivers, as says is self contained and it just gets stuck at Zerging Root, may take a minute. Takes 10min and nothing, I just saw my hardward keys light up for a bit and go out. So I unplugged phone and pulled battery and restarted phone, which started fine.
See screenshot.
I don't know what to do to get it to run right through. Been searching web but everyone uses Windows not Linux! I must be still missing something but I swear I get through one stage and I find another door!!

It could be your ROM. Maybe try flashing an ruu or something stock, then run revolutionary.

Thanks but the prob is I don't know what the RUU ROM's are and all the old one's I used to use when I first rooted my Desire in 2010 have had their links disabled. I only have Leedroid, Gingervillian and maybe Oxygen somewhere on my backups.
Does anyone know which ROM will work with Revoluntionary and of a link where I can still download the ROM? All the server sites I go on are full of pop up's and dead end's.
I really want to use my EXT4 touch Recovered app. But can't til I get S OFF.
Heres the ruu. http://d-h.st/d44
Put it on the root of your SD card and don't rename it.
Then boot into hboot and wait a couple seconds, it will ask if u want to install so click yes.
That will completely restore the phone to official stock 2.3
Also i believe you must have stock hboot before you do this.
Good luck

Ok thanks for that but how do I know if I have the right HBOOT?
Mine is
bravo pvt1 ship s-on
hboot 0.93.0001
microp-031d
touchpanel synw0101
radio 0-5.11.05.27
aug 10 2010 17.52.10
I can't make any gold cards or whatever. I wouldn't have a clue where to start and I don't have windows.
I even tried just partitioning my sd with GParted which I've used before, but I can't remember how I got it to recognise my phone connected via USB! it has debugging on and I select usb storage in use once I start gparted in virtualbox, but nothing comes up even refreshing several times.
So now I can't even fix my phone via gparted giving up on S OFF.

Well in the end I found Gparted was installed by default on the Linux Mint Virtual machine I'd set up and as I could get my phone to show up in Linux, Gparted there found it. I deleted the corrupted ext 3 or 4 partition and recreated it, leaving the FAT 32 portion untouched. Am just flashing JellyBean back on to see if the script for a2sd can use the Ext4 now.

Have you ever flashed an hboot before? If not you have stock.
U should really try to s-off, its definitely worth it and it will be helpful in the long run.
Just flash the ruu I linked, and try revolutionary again. I'm pretty sure it will work.

Thanks for your continued help!
I've now made some progress and got Jellybean reinstalled and ran the terminal script to enable a2sd which worked this time! No corrupted SD ext and when I rebooted I got 118mb internal memory or more. It's gone down to 28mb now though after restoring most of my 141 app's from Titanium plus but I can see the SD ext shows 512mb used out of the 1GB I allocated so that is working!
I also got my last Nandroid backup to work which previously just bootlooped due to the corrupt sd ext and retrieved a few important text messages I'd saved to my SMS backup app, which is nice! I've got 3 years of text messages stored so am quite precious about them!
Once I complete my restore, I'll do a new Nandroid backup and copy it to my Mac and then maybe start exploring S Off again.
The thing though that worries me about S OFF is that even if I do succeed in doing it, there seem to be more hoops to jump through even then! E.g. re-rooting and then there are peeps who have changed their Desire Bravo's internal memory partition, which sounds pretty serious.
As I say, I'd like to be able to use EXT4 recovered but I do have 2 weeks to get a refund if I don't S OFF.
I'll see how I go and report back if I get S OFF.
I have a Chinese max, 32gb. It’s currently on miui 7.5.1.0 stable. When I click check for updates it says no updates available. I’m in china if that makes any difference.
How can I upgrade to a newer software? Can I change to global rom?
I don’t have a windows computer and most guides seems to require windows. Also I don't want a custom rom.
Alternatively, how can I get native update function the to work?
Thanks for help to push mein the right direction.
Screenshot of about phone?

Well, without a pc you have less options, users of miui are on nougat (beta) but in your case must be sure of these things; download (easier) an app from playstore about developer options, open and check at USB debugging, allow, now download a global version from official Miui page for Hydrogen (device name) must be in .zip format and try going to /settings/about device/system update you`ll see four dots upper right and option "select update package", navigate to your downloaded file and try to flash
Thanks. So I downloaded it, went to updater and chose the file, and it says couldn't verify update package.
Tried to download to recovery mode, but then I just get to a screen with the symbol to connect USB cable to computer.

If from this option doesn`t flash your zip either do from mi recovery. Version for China probably is from a phone company if you live there. You need a pc at least to install TWRP (it takes two minutes) and from here you must install last version official beta v8 7.1.19 but you need unlock bootloader
So this is not possible to do with a MAC? what about the terminal commands, can I install a rom from the CLI ?

I know this isn't the quickest workaround, but if you're stuck on a Mac you can always bootcamp it for free. Just download Windows 10 (around a 5GB download I think) and install via bootcamp. You don't need a serial to officially install or run WIndows 10 and you can just remove the installation when you're finished.

You can use other advance phone (cause this will be busy) like a viewfinder of .img in your computer, with an app from Play Store called DriveDroid, you place some .img in your sdcard and to arrange computer select usb (it`s like a virtual machine) or burn an image in a usb with a linux distro, here is a rescue cd that contain a virtual Windows XP called Hiren`s Boot (500 mb aprox.) but really I don`t know if all that works on a mac.
First read that post, it seems is possible use fastboot on a mac according that: http://htc-one.gadgethacks.com/how-...-mac-os-x-send-commands-your-htc-one-0151178/

I tried using fastboot commands on mac to to update, but didn't work.
I guess I'll have to stick with 7.5.10 until I get a new phone.
However wonder why the OTA update doesn't work.

What did you type in fastboot?, zip version is not for fastboot, must be download correct version, but go for the first step, probably you must
unlock bootloader, request to xiaomi, sometimes you got it in 6 hours, depends, probably device is rooted, for this reason don't update ota. Here you have other thread to apply fastboot with other method https://forum.xda-developers.com/an.../live-iso-adb-fastboot-driver-issues-t3526755
tried both the flash all except storage.sh and the flashboot flash system commands. it said device it locked. I applied to unlock bootloader, no reply yet, but does that also require a Windows program to unlock the bootloader?
Device is not rooted, but I installed google play, maybe that's what broke the OTA

No, Google Play can't do that. In my little corner of the world we say "all the roads lead to Rome", I think you need a pc, There is other shorter way of two steps root first with a pc and then download from Google Play an app called "flashfire" you may flash a zip rom from this app. Also you may use a virtual cd or usb with a linux distro like ubuntu or debian running on your mac to arrange computer like a live cd or usb without install on your mac or if you prefer install it on your mac, there's a world of options just root device and can flash any you want and be the real owner of your phone
