[Q] How to use new Sense 3.0 email in another rom? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use a 2003 Exchange server at work and I can't receive html emails with any of the stock emails apps (or sense 1.x,2.x or AOSPs). This isn't a problem on my end, this is a know situation with 2003. However, out of curiousity, I was trying out some new sense 3.0 roms and low and behold html email works.
Now for the question, as I don't care so much for Sense in general, is there a way to use this Sense email app with an AOSP rom? I would really love to not use Touchdown anymore. TIA

I use TouchDown, no issues with it there.
You could extract the Mail.apk from a Sense 3.0 ROM and install it in a 2.X ROM and see if it works. There probably will be more to it than that, but you never know if you don't try it. I am guessing that it won't work, and I know it won't work in a Sense 1.X ROM.

Sense 3.0 Mail will not work with an ASOP ROM. It requires the Sense framework.

[Q] Can I install HTC's contact/facebook sync on a vanilla rom like ruby?

I am curious to try Ruby however I am sure I would miss the HTC's contact picture sync and HTC's people app.
Is there .zip I could apply to replace contacts with people and add HTC's social networking?
They use the HTC frameworks, of which ruby/CM6 use none of, so no.
I downloaded social networking from rom manager and flashed it into skyraider vanilla 3.0 without a problem

Skyraider still has a bit of the rosie (sense) framework in there i believe, I think that is why it works with his, i may be wrong though.
Is the HTC framework tied into the OS in a way that it cant simply be installed via recovery?
Facebook 1.3.2 will import contact info from Facebook. As far as the HTC People app, you're out of luck. Most, if not all, of the Sense specific software requires the HTC framework and Ruby, CM and other AOSP-based ROMs run off of a different framework.
EDIT: The reason it works on SkyRaider Vanilla is because it's still stock HTC sense underneath and it's just had most of the surface Sense stuff removed, modded, or switched out with AOSP versions. I really wish people hadn't started using "Vanilla" to denote a "de-Sense'd" ROM. It's just confusing. Vanilla should always denote AOSP versions of Android.

[Q] Sense mail on clean rom?

Does anyone know if its is possible to install the sense mail app on a clean ROM? I am running CM 6.1 but miss the functionality of the sense mail app.
If so, anyone got the apk?
Cheers

[Q] Possible to use Sense Contacts app on AOSP (CM6) ?

I love everything about CM6, however I miss contact groups, is it possible to install an apk to get the contacts/people from sense on my phone?
HTC sense apps will not work on AOSP roms.

[Q] Can I add Sense 3.0 MMS to Sense 2.1?

I've tried a bunch of the GingerSense ROM's, but am getting a little tired of fighting with nagging little issues with them and the lag that comes with them. (Not meant to be a dig at the devs) They are doing awesome work, I just need my phone to work 100%
The thing is though, I'm missing a couple features from those ROM's, including the MMS and Mail application. Any chance I can just pull some files from one of my old GingerSense ROM's and replace these apps?
Thanks in advance!
Tried copying the Mail and MMS .apk's from a Sense 3 ROM to my phone with Root Explorer, but after I did that, neither application was available. I did check to see that permissions were set, but to be honest, I really don't know what I'm doing, or even where to start to find a solution.
My guess is that it won't work because they rely on newer features of sense 3.0 that aren't available on 2.1.

[Q] Looking for senseless ICS Rom still being updated

Does anyone know of a senseless ICS rom that is newer than this one? Something based off a Sense 4 base.
I would love to go the CM route, but I love my Sense Mail. No other mail apps have come close to the way it handles multiple accounts, subfolders (both imap and exchange), and even message threads/grouping.
I didn't see anything here besides the one mentioned above and some older 2.x based ROMs.
Thanks

Yes. I'm can't claim to understand everything about ROMs, but from what I've read you need Sense to have Sense Mail.
Every thread you read about someone wanting HTC Sense Mail app on their non-HTC phone or ASOP ROM, ends with something to his effect:
You need x, y or z from the Sense 'framework' for Sense Mail to work.
The Sense Mail app in Viper is great. I just want to have something with the default launcher removed, but the other stuff intact and run a different launcher.
Can I safely freeze, disable, or remove the "HTC Sense x.x.x (Desktop) without trashing my phone?
I'll also take suggestions for alternate mail apps, but they need to have the following functions;
ability to sync subfolders (exchange and imap)
an "all messages' view per account
grouped message threads
I'll attach some screenshots to try and show what I mean.
The last time I tried some of the ones out there (free and paid), I didn't get all the functionality I was looking for.
Why don't you just download an alternative launcher and leave the Sense launcher be?
And yes you can freeze things one by one to see up to what point the ROM will still be stable then simply delete them
