I am unhappy with the Android 2.3.6 update. I want to downgrade to Android 2.3.5. The 2.3.6 update took away my 5.1 ch surround sound, increased RAM usage, causing me to reboot my phone constantly, and decreased battery life. Is there any way to downgrade? Will older downgrading methods work? Excuse me for my amateurness. I am an ex-iOS user.

Downgrading is the exact same thing as upgrading. Just flash the ROM of the firmware you want.
So i can do it with Samsung Kies? If not, can i use Odin but without rooting?

Yeah odin is fine

There's a Google music app and a android music app. I'm on mr xs stock rooted ciq free rom and have done a clean wipe and fresh install. I have 5.1 in this and its 236 rom based. It seems kinda dumb to downgrade for your reasoning when you can get the better version and still have what you seem to be missing.

Deebo took your bike too?
I found that there are 2 music applications in 2.3.6. I was using the new one. I am now using the old one with 5.1. Thank you for your two cents. I am now two cents richer. (no hard feelings. I just always wanted to use that line.)

There's not 2 "music" apps in 2.3.6!
You're doing it wrong.

Actually when I upgraded to 2.3.6 I had two music apps as well ... (What it was and I consider it a bug, I had upgraded google music from the market, but when I installed 2.3.6 it saw both the one included and the one I upgraded, it was a bug, I am sure of that)
So if you do not do a wipe when you upgrade you "may" see two music apps in this case, but being a bug, it may not show all the time
I had both google music and android stock music player with both 2.3.5 and 6. Clean wipe on both. New phone, i always factory reset when i get it, then same with update.. What 2 music app are people talking about and what bug?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
okay so i never installed Google music but its there. i updated it twice already but its still there. i cant delete it. i even factory rest it while on 2.3.6 and its still there. what am i doing wrong. i want to get rid of google music. it opens by itself and eats my battery quicker.
I think no matter what ROM you chose, it would have given you the same results. Maybe out need to go back to basics. Clear caches, and re-apply a ROM.
I couldnt root 2.3.6 and went to 2.3.5 and appkied a 2.3.6 rom and its still there.

Ok, now get root explorer, and delete it from /system/app duhhh

You root 2.3.6 the same way you root 2.3.5. It worked for me anyway.
The superuser app was a bit of a pain to flash and didn't always take the first time around. I would have left 2.3.6 on your phone, installed cwm and made a backup and then flashed a 2.3.5 rom. Beats having to odin back to stock and what not.
Just leave the stock updated 2.3.6 version. Flash cwm through Odin, then flash superuser zip file. Its gonna fail couple of times, just keep flashing it.. It will go through just fine, then you have your updated version with root. Non of that BS deodex stock, custom rom..

decreased your RAM? RAM is hardware not software based. . .
Is it possible to receive Google Over the Air Updates while rooted on the latest stock rom? I know i'll lose root but am i able to still get updates? Thanks in advance!
EDIT: i saw a post where this Question was asked but the answer was not clear. Something about changing stuff in the system files? I not sure please help!
If you have clockwork installed you will receive the updates but they will fail. If you do not have clockwork installed everything will be fine

Sounds like a question for the dev. He is very active. I am guessing but there may be an issue with how you flashed. I always wipe system. Make a good backup and place it on your pc for safe keeping.
You need to flash Google apps.
It comes in a zip file (somebody linked it already) and u flash it just like a rom, after uv flashed the rom first usually. So go back to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache, install gapps.zip, should be all good from there

I'm currently on rooted stock 4.1.1. The word is Sprint has begun pushing out 4.2 OTA. Since I'm rooted, will I receive notification of the update? If so, can I unroot, install the update, then re-root? If not, what are my options? I'd like to avoid having to reinstall apps, configure settings, etc.
I'm fairly certain I went through this same process upgrading from ICS to JB, but I can't recall now.. thanks.
If you are on stock rom w/ root then you should receive notification for the update but i really doubt that you will be able to install it. If you have custom recovery you can always flash the zip file that got leaked from Google's Server.

Yup I've got CWM. Do you have a link to the image by any chance?

Are you on a TW rom, if you want all the stuff Sprint GS3 came with just flash Freeza's Stock rooted rom.

I'm actually on Cyanogen RC4. I'm looking for my friend whose on a stock rom (rooted) but, he deleted his bloatware and wants it back so he can receive the OTA.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
He should just wipe dalvik and cache and reflash the rom, that would be a lot easier.
I would suggest Flashing freeza's Stock Rooted Rom as edfunkycold suggested. You can find it HERE. That way you retain Root. So if you want to change things, you have Full control .

The OTA will still most likely not work because he's rooted. Bloatware has nothing to with receiving ota. He might as well just flash Freeza's Stock rooted rom it is as stock as stock can be just rooted and flashable in a zip format. He would then have to freeze the Bloatware he wants frozen. Freezing them is a much better and safer option than deleting them.
