Any Clip-In Case that opens the right way? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Accessories

Hi there,
just got the offical Clip-In Book case by Samsung. It's nice, sturdy and well built but the fact that you're supposed to have the tab upsidedown (e.g. camera on the bottom) when using the case in "writing" mode is bugging me a lot (ie. apps like "Angry Birds" or the media player rotate to landscape, which results in being displayed upsidedown).
So...does anyone of you know a clip-in case, that's as thin/light (hey...it's thinner than the iPad2, would be a shame to add any unecessary weight/height) as Samsung's case but does open the right way? Also I kinda like the 20° angle of Samsungs "writing mode".
Greetings,
maui

Have a look at this review. It's alternate typing mode should satisfy your requirement. I'm considering this one myself.

That is a nice (but kinda pricey) case but I don't like that added leather border ontop of the Tab. I'd rather prefer a clip-in. I just really hope someone releases a case just like the Samsung Book cover but inverts it. Another option would be to somehow implement the system treating ORIENTATION.LANDSCAPE as 270°

It's a simple software fix to support everything and anything in 270 degrees mode. Just seems like it's taking forever for them to address it. =/

Another thing is the confusing product images. Most if not all images of the case provided by Samsung show the "typing mode" the way I think it's supposed to be (eg. samsung logo on the bottom).

Awesome folio case for under $25

Hey guys,
I've been prowling around these sectors ever since I got my Xoom, searching for the perfect case.
What I wanted:
The flexibility of the Zoogue case really appealed to me - I like the idea of being able to choose the angle of viewing. I also wanted any case to be able to be able to provide a setting for only a slight tilt when I wanted to type.
BUT the high price tag really put me off.
Also, I wanted it to be pretty thin. The Xoom is big enough without me adding to its bulk.
After much searching, I think I found the perfect one, so I thought I'd share my experiences (Here's the link where I bought it from: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Black-Fo...Accessories&hash=item3f0a05cb28#ht_3816wt_947)
Firstly, the price tag attached to this thing is ridiculously awesome. At first, I bought it thinking 'why not? it's less than $25!', but the product turned out to be even more awesome.
Firstly, it's really thin, but covers the tablet nicely. Secondly, to a certain extent, you can also choose what viewing angle you want, which is awesome. I say to a certain extent, because after a while, you run out of cover to stick the velcro on (have a look at the attached picture)
All the cutouts are there, but you can't charge with the case closed. I don't think this is a problem, because the cover folds back on itself nicely, so you can keep it open to charge. Which brings me to the next plus: it's designed so that it folds back on itself and it's actually pretty comfortable to hold in portrait mode (I've heard that this isn't the case with the official Moto one).
The only minor flaw I've found is that on mine, the top left corner is slightly higher than the top right - what this means is that the front-facing camera is covered ever so slightly by the strip of leather running under it. The picture I attached kind of exaggerates it a bit; it's not that bad. When I booted up the front-facing camera, there's just a line across the very bottom of the image. I'm not sure if this is on all their cases, so it might just be mine.
One more note: When I first heard about cases using velcro, I immediately wondered if the velcro would wear out over time, like in some of my bags. If you're also wondering that, then don't worry! This doesn't use the traditional velcro. You know how traditionally, the fuzzy part has all the loops and the the other part would like... 'hook' onto it and that's how it stuck? Well, this uses a different sort... one that looks like it won't wear out easily. Also, this case is pretty damn sturdy when you've got it propped up. I've tested this out extensively, and even when poking at the screen with a fair bit of force, it never topples.
Finally, before anyone asks: no, I'm not in any way affiliated with the seller, I'm just one super-happy customer. Even though it says it's free shipping, they still provided tracking for me. They even took a picture of the package before they sent it off and sent that to me, which was an eBay first. Plus, the person dealing with the emails just seems really nice, based on the correspondences I've had.
So pretty much, this case is amazing (for me, anyway). I don't think it's real leather, but for under $25, I wasn't expecting it. Plus, real leather is a ***** to take care of, anyway. Whether you need this case will probably come down to what you want out of a case, but this one has been pretty versatile for me (I've had it for about a month now).
EDIT: I didn't realise how much I wrote.... can you tell I'm procrastinating?
EDIT2: I forgot to add that there's even a magnet that holds the cover closed. It's not too strong but not too weak, either. Quite nifty, actually!

Nope, there's nothing on the screen area at all. That's my matte screen protector that I bought off eBay. It was the cheapest one I could find and it actually works quite well!
i got this one. will post pics and give feedback as soon as i got it.
Well, I really like it myself, so it'll be interesting to hear feedback from other people too.
And daaaang it, it's on sale now (I hate when things go on sale after I buy it!) Oh well, it was already cheap to begin with

[Q] Samsung case different from website photo!

The official sammy case I got has the camera slot near the wedge, and yet the photos on their website have it the other way round! What's going on??
The bookcase I received, has the camera slot on the inner wedge (photos below), and it causes two problems. i) the tablet is turned 180 degrees in the 'typing mode' (shallow support) and some programs like Youtube can't do a 180 degrees turnover, and ii) when you close the bookcase, the short magnetic clip does not cover the camera when closed, thus the camera is exposed.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/5907483311/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/5907483363/
Yet, when you look their photos for the bookcase, it shows the camera slot on the far side, thus the tablet would not be upside down in 'typing mode' and the clip covers the camera slot.
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/EFC-1B1NBEBSTD-gallery
(select "view larger" on the lower right side to see the position of the different camera slot)
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EFC-1B1NBEBSTD
Can it be that the bookcase I received, which had the part number EFC-1B1NBEGSTA is different from the one on display which has the part number EFC-1B1NBEBSTD ?? But Sammy didn't say anything about different models, and I for one, would prefer the camera slot on the far side. Did you all receive the bookcases like mine, or did anyone receive bookcases like the one on their website? Did anyone actually receive a bookcase that looks like the gallery one (STD) rather than mine (STA) ??
I've got the same one as you. My guess would be that the pictures on Samsung's website are of what the case was going to look like originally.

Ditto here. I also figured that the display model was an earlier pre-production model that was changed.
As far as the OP's concerns, while it would be nice to have the camera covered I don't think it's that big a deal. Allowing the camera to be recessed should protect it from most wear and tear as compared to what my caseless Evo has endured with its raised camera.
Just a photosop fail on their part
I just found this Samsung book cover case with a slightly different model number over at tigerdirect.com. It shows the rear facing camera lens hole on the opposite end from the model you received (same pictures that were on the Sammy website). Has anyone purchased this model and is the camera location different? I noticed the different model number and was actually worried about ordering from Tiger Direct in fear that it was an older model or something (version 1.0).
Samsung's website model: EFC-1B1NBEBSTD
Tiger Direct's model: EFC-1B1NBECXAR
Sorry I can't post links yet, you will have to search on google for "samsung galaxy tab 10.1 book cover case" and the top listing under shopping should be the tiger direct link.
The product id of the book cover case I bought from Samsung a couple of weeks ago was EFC-1B1NBEGSTA. Now when you put that product in your shopping cart it comes up as EFC-1B1NBEBSTD. I wonder if this new product id signifies a modified book cover case with the camera hole in the other position...
Noticed this as well but I thought it wasn't that big of a deal to post - It's not the first time Samsung messes up photoshop on their own website.
Most of the pictures on Samsung's site are photoshop fails.

1st and 2nd pictures are contradictive (USB port is on the bottom of the phone)

There have been 3 totally different part numbers for this case so far. So far 2 of the 3 photos have been posted in various threads and they are identical.
Well, I wouldn't mind a bookcase that looks like the one on the site, rather than the one I have ... Will keep an eye out to see if different versions actually come out, in the US or elsewhere.
I have to say, even the cnet gallery here shows the GT10 in an upright position when the bookcase is set to typing mode. Unless they deliberately took it out and turned it upside down, this photo would also support the notion that there is a Sammy bookcase that has the camera slot cut out on the far side rather than near the binding ...

There is only one version of the case. You can tell CNET deliberately placed the Tab in the case upside down, since the cut-out for the headphone jack is on the bottom.
My bet would be a last minute redesign so that the head phone jack would not be covered. When on the go, it is probably the only port you want to make sure is not covered.
Samsung should have updated their site to reflect that though.
Good point about the headphone jack....
When I got this case I was really disappointed in design.. I like the materials and build.... The case just feels like it is backwards. I decided to put my tab in the opposite way... I will likely never use the camera, and Its covered up by the case when you open it all the way.
The only way to use the camera with the case is to hold the tab upside down and let the cover hang.. Just silly. You will fumble around with it for sure the first time you try to take a pic with this case on - trying to figure out what way to hold it so the camera is not blocked by case.

Like you said, I would rarely use the camera but messing with it in the case I simply hold it at the top with the fingers of my left hand holding the cover up and my palm on the top left of the tab. Annoying but works fine since it's so lite.
They should have made it with a removable top (cover). They could have had the 2 pieces slide together with a plastic hinge of some sort. Or maybe some heavy velcro.
or just made a smart cover like the ipad
Ok, so the Samsung website has it listed as a leather case... and the pics in this post look like the outside flap may be leather... mine is plastic and nylon and only the inside flap that touches the screen is leather. Is everybody else's like that?

It's plastic. There is no other version. Samsung's photos are wrong as is their description. You would think the actual manufacturer would get it right or at least after 2 months fix it.

Ebay Bluetooth Keyboard

Yet another bluetooth keyboard thread:
Anyone try this keyboard from ebay?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ultra-thin-...es_Covers_Keyboard_Folios&hash=item4ac99b21f8
Seems similar to the plethora of keyboard on amazon, internet, but wanted to know if anyone tried the actual ebay one and how it worked. Are there any other similar keyboards that are maybe higher quality? Some things I am potentially looking for:
Aluminum (or other kind of "classy" back)
illuminated keyboard
maybe some way of adding a skin on it to match the dbrand wood grain skin I have on it
Any better keyboard for around the same price range? Or anything else that is better, even if a bit more expensive? The main thing I'm looking for is something that doesn't add that much extra bulk (as the leather keyboard cases do).
Thanks

Wouldn't this be EXTREMELY cramped?
I wish someone would make a portrait slider keyboard/case. That would be pretty cool.

Yeah it would be cramped but my plan is to use this with the nexus in my white coat pocket and keep either a foldable or backlit fullsized keyboard in my bag or something. I mainly need something that is as small as possible but still protects the front of the screen (which even with a protector is still vulnerable). I need a keyboard that's good enough to where it won't obstruct half the screen when I need to type something (as the on screen keyboard does).
How would the slider keyboard be less cramped?

Portrait slider. You would hold the device in your hands and use your thumbs to type.

Hmm I think then you'd run into the opposite problem. Keys would be too small to touch type and too big to effectively thumb type. Plus, at least for me, touch typing is faster than thumb typing even on a cramped keyboard (especially if you have to use numerical keys or symbols or something). But I guess to each his own.
I tried one of these (there are several "branded" versions, all the same physical features).
My biggest complaint was not the keyboard size, but the "clip" that is right in the middle of the space-bar. It seemed that no matter what I tried it was in the way. Also the "smart case" magnet was too strong, it would turn off the tablet when it was set up with the switches on top.
Had to return it.

Hmm just saw that the clip does stick out quite a bit. Hmm... Also didn't know that these things came with a smart magnet (why would it need one if you have to remove the tablet from the case to use it?).

S Pen Color Selector on Note 7

I am ready to love the Note 7. I got the black model and I love how it looks with no chrome, very cool. I was worried about the dual edges at first because I hated how the S7 Edge felt in my hands and the functionality (or mis-functionality) of the edge. However, I love the way the Note7 edges look and function. I also love how it fits my hands and is much easier to use one handed than the Note 5. However, I found a flaw today that I hope is just an oversight on my part and not really the case. After searching on line for a while I have not found an answer to my issue, so here I am.
One thing I use the S Pen for quite a bit is touching up or editing photo's. I am not looking to do Photoshop level work here, but maybe a small touch up here or there. Going all the way back to the Note 2 I have just used the stock editor launching it from within the gallery app. I could then select drawing and do whatever I wanted with the S Pen to the photo. One featured I use all the time while doing this is the ability to pick the color of the pen from a color on the photo using the common "dropper" tool. Lets say for example I had a great picture of myself but noticed a big mustard stain on my shirt. I could use the dropper to select the color of my shirt and more or less make the stain go away. I cannot find this function anywhere with the Note 7! I have looked under every "pen" type and seemingly every sub-menu, but I cannot find the dropper anywhere. Someone please tell me this is not the case and I am simply overlooking it. If it is in fact the case and there is another app that I should be using to edit photos with S Pen functionality, please enlighten me. I cannot figure out why they would have decided to get rid of this simple but useful tool.
Sidenote: I was pretty excited to get a shipment E-mail from Samsung today saying my free 256GB SD card has been shipped. I submitted my claim on 8/18 when I got the phone. That is the quickest turn around on a promotion I have seen from Samsung.
Thanks!

Had a quick look at your dilemma. Can't find the dropper either.
Regarding your sidenote, the quickest I've seen Samsung was when my note 7 came with the 256gb memory card shrink wrapped to the same box as the phone. Was thinking I'll need to fill out forms etc to get the card once the phone arrived but surprise surprise, the card was there too.

Note 10+ AOD along the right edge?

I have ordered a cheap Chinese imitation of the Note 10+ S View case which when genuine makes the AOD display down the right edge so it is visible through the cases clear edge. I am presuming the imitation case will not do this so am asking how can I? (of course I might get a nice surprise but I doubt it!).
I'm sure I read how to do that somewhere quite awhile ago but any DuckDuckGo-ing does not turn anything useful up.
Going through settings did not prove fruitful either.
Thanks for the heads up.

I'm at the point where I think there are only 2 ways its going to happen, either the case has the appropriate bits that make it happen (which I doubt but you never know) or I have to trick the phone into thinking a real case is there.
The settings needed, in accessories it seems, to show the AOD down the right side, do not show up until the phone knows the case is there, from some quick searching it seems this is done with magnets and hall effect sensors to tell the phone the case is fitted, if the info I have stumbled upon is correct. I don't know why Samsung would not let people have the choice of the AOD down the side at any time if they would like instead of only with that case?
So if the case does not have these magnets I will play around until I get something with some small rare earth magnets and see what happens? It will be easy to glue them into the case if it works.
If none of the above works I may have to anti up for a real case....drat.
I like 'em but I'm not sure if I like 'em that much!
(it just struck me that I do not need to wait for the case to try some magnets and see what happens!).
EDIT: ok bad news I'm afraid - the AOD down the right side is NOT on the Note's screen, its on the clear part of the case which is a screen of sorts itself! The case has quite a few tricks and is probably why it costs so much. Bummer. Oh well, the cheap Chinese case will do for now while I agonize over whether to part with the dough for the real Sammy case! I may find that I don't like that type of case that I have to open all the time and I found out cheaply! That's about the only good outcome.
I'm not sure exactly which case you are referring to but the Samsung Clear view cases are just that, a clear part in the case that lets you see the screen.
So possibly some bad news, I have one of the LED cover cases, could be different but when I put the case on the phone it unlocks an app and wallpapers in the phone that let you control the case. In the LED Cover app, the case has its own serial number and strangely, the date I "registered" the case with the phone and there is a date when the software will expire in 3 years. So without access to the app, I think you're stuck.

Yes without the case to tell the phone its there and activate the setting in accessories nothing will happen. I have since found out that the info about the case having a screen is wrong, don't trust Youtube! It is the Note's screen that does everything, after watching another couple of vids I could see the AOD display on the Note's screen briefly when they opened the case.
I wonder if any app developer would like to write a small app to make this happen whenever a person would like, that would cure the problem. I asked in AOD notify thread about this. I'm sure it would not be too hard at all. I think there would be a bit of demand especially from cheap case owners!
I should know by Wednesday at the latest if the cheap case tells the phone its there, it would be nice.
So the case arrived finally.
As expected it does not do anything, its just a case i.e. it does not tell the phone it is there. The special section in accessories is therefore not accessible. No AOD down the side.
The case itself is actually quite nice, seems well made, pretty good considering it was only 5 bucks.
Having said that I don't like the case when it is open, it makes holding the phone awkward so I most likely will not now ever buy the genuine Samsung case which will be the same in this attribute. I have heard this criticism about the sammy case.
I will use it for now to get my 5 bucks worth but will most likely take it off soon enough and put the sammy silicone case back on.
A shame because I like the look of the case on the phone closed and like the screen being protected but I feel that when open the case will likely be the cause of drops so it will have to go me thinks.
So a small update; There is an app in Play Store that will put an AOD style clock down the right side of the screen, right in the right spot for these cheap cases. It is called Edge Clock for S6 but works on most devices and on the Note 10+ too.
It at least makes use of the clear part of the case, kind of like you get with the genuine sammy case but it is just a clock and costs 4 bucks.
Seems to work quite well, different colors available etc. It is not an AOD but you have to run the app which makes the rest of the screen black while it runs the edge clock. I'm using it at home so my phone is unlocked which I find convenient, I get a kind of AOD display like I would of got with the real case so I'm kinda pleased with it.
I have gotten used to the case and have left it on, the initial dislike of when the case is open has passed and there have been no case induced drops, thankfully.
Hope this helps someone.
Couldn't you just have the AOD show the clock down the right side of the screen instead?

For me, there is the AOD setting for the right-side of the screen. When you are choosing your "Clock Style" in AOD settings, scroll through the list all the way to the right, where there is a 'clock' logo, click it, and there should be 5 additional settings. The last one listed there is the right-side option.

Same here.
It would be nice if someone knew which APK it is with the AOD clock down the side so it could be downloaded and installed for us "not have's"!
The app I spoke of (S6 clock) is OK but it means when using it the phone is actually on and unlocked i.e. the app does not run on the lock screen.
Another Update.
I have found a free app that does what we were really looking for, AOD down the right side on the lock screen with clock, notifications, battery percentage etc!
HooRay!
It is called Always On Display Edge Lighting Super Amoled....yeah a mouthful but it works....except for 1 small problem but easily fixed me thinks.
For some reason it uses the proximity sensor and it switches the display OFF if the case is closed?? yeah I dunno why but I am going to drill a small hole in the case in the right spot to fix that PITA problem early tomorrow morning, bit late now.
So suck it sammy, I got my cheap chinese case AND my AOD for 9 bucks (case 5, first app 4 {now redundant}) second app free!
Hope I have helped someone.
Your selecting the wrong icon select the one that looks like the clock
No need for another app

It does not matter which clock I select the one I want is not there.
As reported by others as well. Some have it, some do not.
Possibly a region thing, who knows.
Your picking clockface you have it it comes stock
uninstall clockface and I bet it's there
Then you will see it where it Is
Then reinstall clockface
Don't uninstall all of good lock just clockface
